The Rethinking Education conference focused on the need to design a future education and skills system that will enable people to develop the knowledge and skills need for the labour market, for personal development and for societal goals.
This presentation focuses on the advantages and challenges of massive onopen online courses (MOOCs) for teaching and learning, with a focus on the UK platform, FutureLearn.
Since her Georgia technology conference in November 2005, this teacher has experienced an extremely positive classroom makeover. Since that time she has co-created multiple award-winning global collaborative projects including the Flat Classroom project, and inclusion in Thomas Friedman's book The World is Flat and many media outlets. Her “Cool Cat Teacher” blog has skyrocketed into the edublogosphere, earning her multiple awards as well as grants for her classroom. Come here to learn how to give yourself an extremely positive classroom makeover as you transform your classroom safely into a place where students are engaged and collaborating with a global audience.

As technology becomes pervasive, the teaching and learning landscape is now capable of presenting an interoperable and seamless learning architecture to connect, integrate, and share three major dimensions of learning resources: learning facilitators, learning contents, and educational technology. Although we have a plethora of learning resources, searching for specific content is not easy and takes time to view and identify the content being searched. As such a tagging metadata mechanism is envisaged that will facilitate for content search. The tagging of these learning objects will lead to an intelligent virtual content selection environment. Further the concept of technogogy is applied in the tagging process; defined as the interplay of the learners, content, pedagogy and technology that depicts the convergence on a joint coordinate system of the design of a learning transaction.

Keynote presentation for Kingston University Festival of Learning
The swift pivot to online learning has without doubt been challenging for a multitude of reasons. My keynote will consider
- when looking back what my approaches were in relation to the use of technology to enhance learning;
- more recently my reflections on using technology for learning and teaching online,
- and then looking forward how we need to re-plan to use technology for engaging multimodal co-learning.

The Edtech Podcast Guest Episode ProcessSophie Bailey
The Edtech Podcast goes out weekly to ‘improve the dialogue between ‘ed’ and ‘tech’ for better innovation. The usual format of the show is a 30 minute to 1hour interview with international educators, innovators, investors or Government figures who are in some way addressing the improvement of teaching and learning. Other formats have included LIVE discussions, and roundtables. The podcast is downloaded 1500+ times each week, from a mixture of listeners from up to 109 countries. The UK, US and Australia are the top three listener countries.
The Edtech Podcast is now open to high-quality guest submissions which address our mission ‘to improve the dialogue between ‘ed’ and ‘tech’ for better innovation’. These will run alongside our own episodes, and will be scheduled from December 2017 (with reviews of applicants starting now). Our ethos is always to address the entire eco-system, to be global in outlook, and to be independent. By opening up to guest episodes, we hope to broaden the discussion and voices involved. Our criteria will be strict, in order to maintain a high-quality discussion and we encourage you to review the requirements below. We are excited to see what guest episodes are out there!

#47 Dyslexia & Technology with Dr Kate Saunders of The British Dyslexia Assoc...Sophie Bailey
10% of the population are estimated to be dyslexic. That means that for every ten of your colleagues, or ten of your students, or ten of your relatives or friends, on average, 1 has dyslexia. In the work place, the law stipulates that you must make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to accommodate the needs of dyslexics. That might mean managing overloading environments such as open plan offices, adjusting intranets or screens so that they are less stimulating, allowing for longer time periods for organisation or kicking off a dyslexia mentoring scheme within your place of work. But what is being done before work, in schools, colleges, and Universities to move the national dialogue to one which celebrates neuro-diversity at the earliest moment?
#38 with Global Teacher Prize nominee Kazuya Takahashi - on creating independ...Sophie Bailey
What's in this episode? Takahashi was recently nominated for the prestigious Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, often referred as the Nobel Prize in education, for his work in the classroom and contributions to society. Takahashi’s journey from PHD studies to teacher and his aspiration to ‘pay it forward’
Thoughts on creating more independent learners in a system devoted to ‘cramming’
Which theorists in cognitive science and learning design does Takahashi follow
The difference in conditions and opportunities for teachers in independent and state schools in Japan
Working with Lego to promote project based learning and launching his own edtech incubator
Challenging a system of education built on teacher sacrifice to create something more sustainable
An inspirational message to all educators at the end of his interview

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
