The deep web refers to content on the internet that is not indexed by search engines like Google and makes up an estimated 500 times more information than the surface web. It exists because search engine technology cannot index dynamically generated or password protected pages. The deep web can be accessed through anonymity software like Tor and contains both positive resources like educational papers as well as illegal activities due to anonymity. As more data is created, challenges remain for search engines to effectively index the deep web.
