Due to the Covid-19 issues, I am allowing concerts from YouTube or other online sources to count for the concert review. The concert must also be at least an hour in length. 2 pages typed and double-spaced. The main purpose of your concert comparison assignment is to articulate the specific nature of a live classical performance as opposed to a different concert, be it another type of a classical music event or a pop concert. So, to begin:
ATTEND TWO CONCERTS:
One must be a “classical”/Western art music concert
(this includes musicals, ballet, and opera)
The other may be a concert genre of your choice
(Possible two-concert pairs might be: an opera and a symphony orchestra concert; a symphony orchestra concert and a pop concert; a musical and a contemporary classical music (“avant-garde”) concert; a ballet and a world music concert. There are many combinations that are possible!)
You must attend both concerts in the FALL 2015 semester.
Concerts that you attended prior to this semester may not be used.

Here are some guidelines for the preparation of such an assignment: first, a few suggestions on working with your own notes; second, points to consider for the content of your report; third, some information about usages or conventions in writing about music; and finally, an example of a concert report.
Transforming Your Notes into a Report
You should plan to expand your notes into a complete report very soon after the concert--the same evening or during the next day or so.
It is often helpful to begin with an outline and then to write a rough draft. (If your instructor hands out a printed form for concert reports, that will serve as the outline.) Next, polish and edit your draft to produce the final version. Remember to check your grammar and the spellings of names (especially foreign names) and musical terms.
Below are recommendations for the actual content of your report--what to write. Following that, there is a section on vocabulary and usages, or conventions, involved in referring to musical works--that is, how to write about music.
What to Write: The Content of a Report
The Concert as a Whole You should begin your report with a brief description of the concert attended, including the name and type of the performing group or soloists, the place, the date and time, and the music you heard.
You will also want to note whether the performers were attempting a historically "authentic" program. For example, in music by Johann Sebastian Bach, was a harpsichord (rather than a piano) used? What to Write: The Content of a Report
The Concert as a Whole You should begin your report with a brief description of the concert attended, including the name and type of the performing group or soloists, the place, the date and time, and the music you heard.
You will also want to note whether the performers were attempting a historically "authentic" program. For example, in music by Johann Sebastian Bach, was a harpsichord (rather than a piano) used? For a symphony by Haydn or Mozart, was the size of the orchestra reduced? Did the performers use old instruments, or reconstructions of old instruments?
Then, you may want to describe your general reaction to the concert. Did you enjoy it? Did this event make you feel like going to other concerts in the near future?
Following this introduction, the paper might focus on the pieces you enjoyed most and your reaction to the performances.
Individual Compositions In discussing individual compositions, you will probably want to cover some of the following points:
· Musical styles. How did the composition correspond to what you have learned about the stylistic period in which it was composed--baroque, classical, etc.? Your appreciation of a work is often enhanced when you recognize its musical style.
· Musical genres and forms. What was the genre of the piece--symphony, concerto, tone poem, string quartet, étude, etc.? What musical forms were employed--theme and variations, sonata form, ABA, etc.? If you are reporting on an opera, you might note arias, recitatives, ensembles, choruses, etc.
· Program music. Was the composition program music--that is, was it inspired by a text, story, or place? If so, how did the music reflect the program?
· Emotions, images, and ideas. Did the composition evoke in you speci.

You may choose a different concert video to watch, but be sure you include the URL of the concert you chose in your critique, or scan the program of the live concert you attended and attach it. The musical style of the concert should include at least one of the genres studied in this course.
The Concert Critique should be 2.5 pages long, double spaced. It should contain five paragraphs that describe the following aspects of the concert you attended:
1. Who are the performers? Give the title of the concert and write something about the performers. Is it an orchestra? A choir? An ensemble? Solo artists? This assignment is a research and writing assignment that asks you to find a
Jazz
artist who is combining an International music style with Jazz music to create/explore a new Jazz sound in a specific project (recording or concert) IT IS IMPORTANT YOUR READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS ASSIGNMENT - YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR A JAZZ ARTIST THAT IS CREATING JAZZ MUSIC WITH AN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC INFLUENCE. As you have discovered in your text readings and other assignments in this course, Jazz music developed in America from the combining of different musical influences, which came about as a result of the numerous International cultures that played a part in the development of the country. As the music grew, Jazz continued to incorporate musical elements from other styles of music, including world music influences. Examples include Dizzy Gillespie, who collaborated with Cuban congero Chano Pozo to explore new sounds in Jazz. In the 1960’s the Brazilian music style of Bossa Nova influenced artists like Stan Getz, and became a popular new sound in Jazz. The combining of International music styles and Jazz in this way is continuing today, creating interesting new Jazz sounds.
Many international musical influences can be heard in modern Jazz music.

The color of an artwork can effect my feelings or moods by the warmth or coolness of the colors and the lightness or darkness of the tones of colors. For example, art that includes dark tones of red, orange and yellow can remind someone of burning flames and could cause someone to feel uneasy or even anxious. If this color scheme were brighter toned, it may remind someone of the fall season and it could cause excitement and joy. Artwork with darker tones of green, blue and purple could remind someone of a rainstorm and cause them to feel depressed, whereas a work with lighter tones of this color scheme could remind someone of calming ocean waves and make them feel at peace. I would personally use color and composition in art to provoke a calming response because I tend to enjoy artwork that makes me feel calm and peaceful. I would use bright tones of cool colors along with white, cream colors, and even some light gray shades to evoke a laid-back feeling to the piece. I would also not use any sharp edged shapes and lines and i would use a more rounded technique to whatever type of art I would create in order to make the piece easy to look at and in turn make the viewer feel at ease.
This piece of artwork I have included is one of the canvas prints I have hanging up in my room. I don't know who it was created by since it was just something I bought from a popular store a long time ago, but it is one of my favorite pieces ever and if I had the means (or the talent) to create something like this, I would! I would make something like this because it has bright tones of cool colors like blue and purple and bits of bright pink and white, which are colors that bring me peace and make me think of things like ocean waves over a surfer. I like that it makes me imagine the surfer instead of a surfer being included in the work. I would also create this sort of piece because there are minimal harsh or pointed lines and shapes in it, and it flows effortlessly from one end of the canvas to the other.

Because of the long colonial history of Filipinos and the highly Americanized climate of postco-
lonial Philippines, many scholars from various disciplines have speculated that colonialism and its
legacies may play major roles in Filipino emigration to the United States. However, there are no
known empirical studies in psychology that specifically investigate whether colonialism and its
effects have influenced the psychological experiences of Filipino American immigrants prior to their
arrival in the United States. Further, there is no existing empirical study that specifically investigates
the extent to which colonialism and its legacies continue to influence Filipino American immigrants’
mental health. Thus, using interviews (N ! 6) and surveys (N ! 219) with Filipino American
immigrants, two studies found that colonialism and its consequences are important factors to
consider when conceptualizing the psychological experiences of Filipino American immigrants.
Specifically, the findings suggest that (a) Filipino American immigrants experienced ethnic and
cultural denigration in the Philippines prior to their U.S. arrival, (b) ethnic and cultural denigration
in the Philippines and in the United States may lead to the development of colonial mentality (CM),
and (c) that CM may have negative mental health consequences among Filipino American immi-
grants. The two studies’ findings suggest that the Filipino American immigration experience cannot
be completely captured by the voluntary immigrant narrative, as they provide empirical support to
the notion that the Filipino American immigration experience needs to be understood in the context
of colonialism and its most insidious psychological legacy— CM.

Filipinos have one of the longest histories of immigration to the
United States, dating back to 1587 when Filipino slaves aboard
Spanish galleon ships landed in what is now known as Morro Bay,
California—making Filipinos the first Asians on U.S. soil (Cor-
dova, 1983). The first Asian settlement in the United States was
also established by Filipino immigrants— escapees from Spanish
galleon ships—in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1763 (Espina, 1988).
These early settlements were very small, however, and thus they
do not account for the large numbers of Filipinos in the country
today. Indeed, the 2010 Census reported that there are currently 3.4
million Filipinos in the United States, 1.7 million of whom are
foreign born, making them the third largest American immigrant
group next to Mexicans and Chinese (Hoeffel, Rastogi, Kim, &
Shahid, 2012).

This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The concert must also be at least an hour in length. 2 pages typed and double-spaced. Please include URL (online link), date, venue, genre, and name of performance or performers at the top of your paper. Important Considerations in writing your review Comment on aspects of music such as genre of music, performance forces used (instrumentation), texture, form, style periods represented, staging and costumes (when it applies), etc. In addition; make observations as to unique or unusual uses of music within the concert (rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, and so on). A good paper will start with an introduction which discusses the general details of the concert plus first impressions of the concert experience. Good information to mention here would be concert theme (if there is one), was it a student or professional ensemble or soloist, interesting program notes, etc.
- 2. Follow the introduction with general observations about the performance. Did the performers make comments about the music during the performance? Did the comments add to the understanding and enjoyment of the concert. Were there any surprises? Special effects on an instrument or special instruments used? Then write in detail about one song or group of similar songs which were of particular interest to you. Talk about style, color (instruments), texture (monophonic, homophonic, or polyphonic), and form (verse/chorus, waltz song, etc.). Discuss the genre and era of the music. Did they perform any music or styles which were studied in this class? Were you able to hear the important ideas about the styles in the performance? Finally, write a conclusion about the concert. Mention personal observations about the concert. What was your overall impression? If this type of concert was new to you, would you go to another? Why?
