· Program music. Was the composition program music--that is, was it inspired by a text, story, or place? If so, how did the music reflect the program?
· Emotions, images, and ideas. Did the composition evoke in you speci.

.• Must use conventional size and formatting of text - e.g. 10-12 point serif or sans serif fonts with normal margins. • Must include the printed program from the concert and/or your ticket stubs. Photocopies are unacceptable. (Contact me at least 24 hours before due date if any materials are unavailable.)• All materials (text, program, ticket stub) must be
stapled
together securely. Folded corners, paper clips, etc. instead of staples will not be accepted.• Careful editing, proofreading, and spelling are expected, although minor errors will not affect your grade.

After watching the entire concert write a 3-5 page concert critique following the criteria below. Be sure to use accurate musical terms to describe the music as much as possible.
CRITERIA:
Your concert critique should be
3-5 pages long, double-spaced
. It should contain five paragraphs that describe the following aspects of the recorded concert you viewed this semester:
I. Who are the performers? Give the title of the concert and write something about the performers. Is it an orchestra? A choir? An ensemble? Solo artists? Why did you choose to view this particular performance? Tell as much as you know about the musicians that performed – are they professionals? Students? Teachers? How long have they been performing? Etc.
II. Describe the music that was performed on the concert. Use the musical characteristics that we have been learning in class. What

IV. Tell which pieces or part of the concert was most moving or enjoyable for you. If you didn’t enjoy the concert very much, tell why you didn’t enjoy it. What could have been better? Be as specific as you can when expressing your opinion of the performance – don’t just write generalities like “It was nice” or “it made me feel like dancing”. Tell why the music made you feel like dancing. Write about why you particularly enjoyed that part of the concert.
V. Conclude your critique by summing up the performance and telling us if you would go to hear these performers again – or would invite your friends or family to hear this performance/performers.

You may choose a different concert video to watch, but be sure you include the URL of the concert you chose in your critique, or scan the program of the live concert you attended and attach it. The musical style of the concert should include at least one of the genres studied in this course.

· Musical genres and forms. What was the genre of the piece--symphony, concerto, tone poem, string quartet, étude, etc.? What musical forms were employed--theme and variations, sonata form, ABA, etc.? If you are reporting on an opera, you might note arias, recitatives, ensembles, choruses, etc.
· Program music. Was the composition program music--that is, was it inspired by a text, story, or place? If so, how did the music reflect the program?
· Emotions, images, and ideas. Did the composition evoke in you speci.

Questions for a Concert
What kinds of musical concerts are NOT acceptable for this paper?
High school or other children's performances/recitals, outdoor festival performances, any type of pop, rock, rap, Latin, country, or reggae, for example, are not appropriate for this paper. If you're not sure about your choice, ask me.
Print out and take with you so you can be thinking of the questions as you watch the show.
1. Program Notes - most performances have a printed program with printed notes. Read this before the performance begins and save it for reference when you write your paper.
2. Head your paper with your first and last name, the name of the show and where and when you saw it.
3. List the performers and/or the name of the group and the instruments included in the concert. List all the pieces that were played (see program notes for the concert), the name of the person who composed and/or arranged each piece, and the date each work was completed (if possible).
Example:
The Turtle Island String Quartet includes Joe Bloe, first violin; Sarah Marah, second violin; Topsy Turvy, viola; S. Popping, cello.

What to Write About:
1. Below are some things you can write about, but the most important is the MUSIC. You don't have to write about every piece on the program. Do write about how the sounds affected you, which voices, selections, or instruments touched you most, what you learned of interest about the composer(s), the performing group, and the compositions.
2. Ambience - Every gathering of people has a feeling tone, a mood: This is the ambience. Notice the people as they come in, find their seats, see what kinds of clothes they are wearing. Look around the theatre; notice the lighting in the room, the stage area. If you have some particular feeling about how you fit in, how you feel being a part of it you might make a comment in your paper.
3. You will understand and appreciate a concert more, and write about it best if you do a little research. It's easy to research on the Internet. Type in the name of the group and a list of web sites will pop up. The same is true for many composers. If the pieces were written in another century find out what you can about the type of composition, something about the composer.
4. Music is the most illusive art form. Like the dance, music happens in real-time: It's gone as soon as you hear it, and impressions are difficult to recall. Program notes give you information that is helpful when you think back on a performance. Program notes give you information about the composers, the music, and in voice concerts you may have translations into English of the words in a song.
5. Each composer had a concept, an idea, and chose specific instruments or voices (types of singers) because of the sounds they make. Listen to ho.

In a well-written essay of approximately 700 words (typed), create a review of a live professional concert relevant to this course. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the concert and focus mainly on the most important/striking elements and qualities of the performance. Hints to keep you writing:
Describe: This is the very basic and factual content of your paper and should function as the introduction to your review. When was the concert? Where was it? Who performed? What kind of music was performed? Was there any particular theme to the concert? Was there anything unusual about the concert occasion? Don't list everything on the program, but do summarize the important information.
Analyze: To analyze something is to examine its components and, more than just describe them, to seek out relationships among the parts. What were the outstanding musical characteristics of the pieces? How did the pieces that were performed compare to each other? How do they compare to what you have learned in class and to music you have heard at other times? This section is where you may want to use the musical terms and concepts that have been discussed in class (but see the section below on using musical terminology).
Interpret: Did you find some meaning in the music? What do you think may have been the original significance of the music? Does it have a different significance today? What people might want to listen to this music, and why? There are no right or wrong answers to these kinds of questions, but always give examples and make supporting statements to back up your assertions.
Judge: Remember that a concert consists of two things: the music being performed and the people who are doing the performing. Don't confuse the two. Do talk about each one. Did you like the music, and why (or why not)? Regardless of whether you liked the music, did you think that the performers did a good job? What, if anything, do you think would have improved the performance? Again, these are individual and subjective responses, but give explanations for your judgments.
Disclaimer and General Guidelines: Do not write your review only by answering some or all of the questions listed in the above paragraphs. They are not intended to be a checklist of things that you must write about, but rather are suggestions to direct your thinking about various aspects of the music and performance. Important Considerations in writing your review
Comment on aspects of music such as genre of music, performance forces used (instrumentation), texture, form, style periods represented, staging and costumes (when it applies), etc. In addition; make observations as to unique or unusual uses of music within the concert (rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, and so on).
A good paper will start with an introduction which discusses the general details of the concert plus first impressions of the concert experience.
Good information to mention here would be concert theme (if there is one), was it a student or professional ensemble or soloist, interesting program notes, etc.
Follow the introduction with general observations about the performance.
Did the performers make comments about the music during the performance? Did the comments add to the understanding and enjoyment of the concert.
Were there any surprises? Special effects on an instrument or special instruments used?
Then write in detail about one song or group of similar songs which were of particular interest to you. Talk about style, color (instruments), texture (monophonic, homophonic, or polyphonic), and form (verse/chorus, waltz song, etc.).
Discuss the genre and era of the music.
Did they perform any music or styles which were studied in this class? Were you able to hear the important ideas about the styles in the performance?
Finally, write a conclusion about the concert. Mention personal observations about the concert.
What was your overall impression?

Writing Voice and style: Your colleagues taking this class should be able to read the report and gain a clear concept of your experience. You will not need to define the terminology we have covered in class, but you do need to keep in mind that your audience will not HEAR this concert and will rely on a sense of the experience solely from your descriptions. Content: The report is YOUR observations of the concert. A successful report will address these categories:
1. Performance setting and types of music: Give the date, place, and name(s) of groups performing. b. Choose two movements of short pieces and give an overview of their characters- what types of moods or feelings they evoked with references to specific musical elements.
c. Choose the music composition you liked best and describe why using specific musical elements. Choose the music composition you liked least and describe why using musical elements.

LIVE PERFORMANCE REVIEW PAPERS:
1. Each student will be required to write two (2) papers, each involving the description of live performances. The description should include a brief description of each (all) of the works on the program. The Elements of Music (Rhythm, Harmony, Melody, Tone Color, Pitch, Dynamics, Textures, Forms, etc.) should be used to describe the works performed on the program.
2. Papers to include:

Examples: Good and Not Good:
A. The piece opened with a chord that grew rapidly louder. It was followed by alternating notes in the timpani, which led right to the first theme in the tonic key, played in accented notes in the brasses. The flutes and clarinets then played the theme. The strings repeated this first theme. The orchestra played with accented notes that led to more rapidly moving notes which led to the second theme in the dominant key.
B. The piece was loud and fast.
C. The piece opened forcefully but eloquently with a dynamic, driving theme. It had a rigorous mood, leading to a brilliant and musically meaningful passage played by the full orchestra. The center section was absolutely gorgeous, being lyrical and passionate at the same time. It led back to the original theme and then to a stirring and vibrant conclusion.
D. Overtureto "Candide"-Leonard Bernstein: This work opens with a fanfare. The strings play an agitated melody. The melody repeats. The melody is played by different sections of the orchestra. It is first played by the horns and then by the woodwinds. The rhythm seems uneven. The harmony uses dissonance, but there is resolution to these tension areas. The mood changes to a very lyrical melody. The fanfare and opening repeat. The raucous section comes back. The lyrical melody returns. It gets soft at the end until there is one last loud chord.

Questions for a Concert
What kinds of musical concerts are NOT acceptable for this paper?
High school or other children's performances/recitals, outdoor festival
performances, any type of pop, rock, rap, Latin, country, or reggae, for example,
are not appropriate for this paper. If you're not sure about your choice, ask me.
Print out and take with you so you can be thinking of the questions as you
watch the show.
1. Program Notes - most performances have a printed program with printed
notes. Read this before the performance begins and save it for reference
when you write your paper.
2. Head your paper with your first and last name, the name of the show and
where and when you saw it.
3. List the performers and/or the name of the group and the instruments
included in the concert. List all the pieces that were played (see program
notes for the concert), the name of the person who composed and/or
arranged each piece, and the date each work was completed (if possible).

What to Write About:
1. Below are some things you can write about, but the most important is the
MUSIC. You don't have to write about every piece on the program. Do write
about how the sounds affected you, which voices, selections, or instruments
touched you most, what you learned of interest about the composer(s), the
performing group, and the compositions.
2. Ambience - Every gathering of people has a feeling tone, a mood: This is the
ambience. Notice the people as they come in, find their seats, see what kinds
of clothes they are wearing. Look around the theatre; notice the lighting in
the room, the stage area. If you have some particular feeling about how you
fit in, how you feel being a part of it you might make a comment in your
paper.
3. You will understand and appreciate a concert more, and write about it best
if you do a little research. It's easy to research on the Internet. Type in the
name of the group and a list of web sites will pop up. The same is true for
many composers. If the pieces were written in another century find out what
you can about the type of composition, something about the composer.
4. Music is the most illusive art form. Like the dance, music happens in
real-time: It's gone as soon as you hear it, and impressions are difficult to
recall. Program notes give you information that is helpful when you think
back on a performance. Program notes give you information about the
composers, the music, and in voice concerts you may have translations into
English of the words in a song.

The concert must be Western Art Music of one of the genres we cover throughout the class. Consult your syllabus for genres we will cover, or ask me if you are unsure if a concert is acceptable.
Your report should include the name of the concert you went to, where it was held, the type of ensemble you listened to and the name of the performer or group. Name of your favorite piece or movement and describe it in as much detail of possible using your knowledge of beat, rhythm, meter, pitch range, timbre, dynamics and instruments. What about it did you like and why did it appeal to you? Then describe a little bit about your least favorite work on the program. How was it different from the piece you liked? What specifically about it do you not enjoy? (hint: "It was boring" is not a good answer.) What similarities, if any, did it have to the piece you liked?
I highly recommend you take the time to completely understand the assignment before attending the concert, and take notes specifically related to what you are supposed to report on while you are at the concert. You should be familiar with this assignment from your oral report. Your written report will be very similar to your oral report, but it should be more formal in tone. Remember to write clearly and in a style appropriate to an academic paper.

Questions for a Concert
What kinds of musical concerts are NOT acceptable for this paper?
High school or other children's performances/recitals, outdoor festival performances, any type of pop, rock, rap, Latin, country, or reggae, for example, are not appropriate for this paper. If you're not sure about your choice, ask me.
Print out and take with you so you can be thinking of the questions as you watch the show.
1. Program Notes - most performances have a printed program with printed notes. Read this before the performance begins and save it for reference when you write your paper.
2. Head your paper with your first and last name, the name of the show and where and when you saw it.
3. List the performers and/or the name of the group and the instruments included in the concert. List all the pieces that were played (see program notes for the concert), the name of the person who composed and/or arranged each piece, and the date each work was completed (if possible).
Example:
The Turtle Island String Quartet includes Joe Bloe, first violin; Sarah Marah, second violin; Topsy Turvy, viola; S. Popping, cello.

What to Write About:
1. Below are some things you can write about, but the most important is the MUSIC. You don't have to write about every piece on the program. Do write about how the sounds affected you, which voices, selections, or instruments touched you most, what you learned of interest about the composer(s), the performing group, and the compositions.
2. Ambience - Every gathering of people has a feeling tone, a mood: This is the ambience. Notice the people as they come in, find their seats, see what kinds of clothes they are wearing. Look around the theatre; notice the lighting in the room, the stage area. If you have some particular feeling about how you fit in, how you feel being a part of it you might make a comment in your paper.
3. You will understand and appreciate a concert more, and write about it best if you do a little research. It's easy to research on the Internet. Type in the name of the group and a list of web sites will pop up. The same is true for many composers. If the pieces were written in another century find out what you can about the type of composition, something about the composer.
4. Music is the most illusive art form. Like the dance, music happens in real-time: It's gone as soon as you hear it, and impressions are difficult to recall. Program notes give you information that is helpful when you think back on a performance. Program notes give you information about the composers, the music, and in voice concerts you may have translations into English of the words in a song.
5. Each composer had a concept, an idea, and chose specific instruments or voices (types of singers) because of the sounds they make. Listen to ho.

In a well-written essay of approximately 700 words (typed), create a review of a live professional concert relevant to this course. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the concert and focus mainly on the most important/striking elements and qualities of the performance. Use that information to arrive at an overall evaluation of the event.
Hints to keep you writing:
Describe: This is the very basic and factual content of your paper and should function as the introduction to your review. When was the concert? Where was it? Who performed? What kind of music was performed? Was there any particular theme to the concert? Was there anything unusual about the concert occasion? Don't list everything on the program, but do summarize the important information.
Analyze: To analyze something is to examine its components and, more than just describe them, to seek out relationships among the parts. What were the outstanding musical characteristics of the pieces? How did the pieces that were performed compare to each other? How do they compare to what you have learned in class and to music you have heard at other times? This section is where you may want to use the musical terms and concepts that have been discussed in class (but see the section below on using musical terminology).
Interpret: Did you find some meaning in the music? What do you think may have been the original significance of the music? Does it have a different significance today? What people might want to listen to this music, and why? There are no right or wrong answers to these kinds of questions, but always give examples and make supporting statements to back up your assertions.
Judge: Remember that a concert consists of two things: the music being performed and the people who are doing the performing. Don't confuse the two. Do talk about each one. Did you like the music, and why (or why not)? Regardless of whether you liked the music, did you think that the performers did a good job? What, if anything, do you think would have improved the performance? Again, these are individual and subjective responses, but give explanations for your judgments.

Important Considerations in writing your review
Comment on aspects of music such as genre of music, performance forces used (instrumentation), texture, form, style periods represented, staging and costumes (when it applies), etc. In addition; make observations as to unique or unusual uses of music within the concert (rhythm, harmony, instrumentation, and so on).
A good paper will start with an introduction which discusses the general details of the concert plus first impressions of the concert experience.
Good information to mention here would be concert theme (if there is one), was it a student or professional ensemble or soloist, interesting program notes, etc.
Follow the introduction with general observations about the performance.
Did the performers make comments about the music during the performance? Did the comments add to the understanding and enjoyment of the concert.
Were there any surprises? Special effects on an instrument or special instruments used?
Then write in detail about one song or group of similar songs which were of particular interest to you. Talk about style, color (instruments), texture (monophonic, homophonic, or polyphonic), and form (verse/chorus, waltz song, etc.).
Discuss the genre and era of the music.
Did they perform any music or styles which were studied in this class? Were you able to hear the important ideas about the styles in the performance?
Finally, write a conclusion about the concert. Mention personal observations about the concert.

LIVE PERFORMANCE REVIEW PAPERS:
1. Each student will be required to write two (2) papers, each involving the description of live performances. The description should include a brief description of each (all) of the works on the program. The Elements of Music (Rhythm, Harmony, Melody, Tone Color, Pitch, Dynamics, Textures, Forms, etc.) should be used to describe the works performed on the program.
2. Papers to include:
a) typed, double spaced, 12 point font, white, regular 20# paper
b) staple all pages together
c) the printed program must be included and stapled to the paper
3. Student and faculty recitals, performing groups, visiting artists at

b) University of Dayton
c) Wright State University

4. The papers will be evaluated on proper writing style and factual content. The student is free to express opinions about the performers and musical selections.
5. The student is advised to attend live performances early in the term and to complete this assignment as early as possible.
Examples: Good and Not Good:
A. The piece opened with a chord that grew rapidly louder. It was followed by alternating notes in the timpani, which led right to the first theme in the tonic key, played in accented notes in the brasses. The flutes and clarinets then played the theme. The strings repeated this first theme. The orchestra played with accented notes that led to more rapidly moving notes which led to the second theme in the dominant key.
B. The piece was loud and fast.
C. The piece opened forcefully but eloquently with a dynamic, driving theme. It had a rigorous mood, leading to a brilliant and musically meaningful passage played by the full orchestra. The center section was absolutely gorgeous, being lyrical and passionate at the same time. It led back to the original theme and then to a stirring and vibrant conclusion.
D. Overtureto "Candide"-Leonard Bernstein: This work opens with a fanfare. The strings play an agitated melody. The melody repeats. The melody is played by different sections of the orchestra. It is first played by the horns and then by the woodwinds. The rhythm seems uneven. The harmony uses dissonance, but there is resolution to these tension areas. The mood changes to a very lyrical melody. The fanfare and opening repeat. The raucous section comes back. The lyrical melody returns. It gets soft at the end until there is one last loud chord.

The Assignment: Your task is to attend and observe a music event, and analyze it as part of a music-culture; then to share your experience in a short talk, as well as create a brief ethnography (written documentation) of the musical expression.
Objective:To better understand how musical expressions occur in a given time and place; and to have an experience of conducting et
hnographic fieldwork, a four-fold process that includes preparation, participant-observation in a community setting, analysis of data collected, and dissemination of findings.
Requirements:
1. Select a performance of live music this semester, at either an event sponsored by the university or off-campus. We will discuss your topic in class at some point. You may attend any type of event in which music is performed, including but not limited to: religious services on or off campus, cultural shows, sporting events, dances, weddings, karaoke, performances by the Music Department’s ensembles, street music, musicals, etc.
2. Decide soon what performance you will attend, including: the date and location, genre of music, names of performers (if known).
3. In addition, think of and write out (at least) five preliminary questions — pertaining to the performance, the music, and/or the community/culture — for which you hope to find answers in the course of attending the performance. You must include these questions into your paper, by working it into a paragraph of text. Also write about how you were able to find answers, or not.
4. Attend this performance of music. Be sure to arrive early and stay until the end of the performance. NOTE: You must attend a live show after reading this assignment (that is, you cannot watch a video, and you cannot write about something you’ve already seen).

The concert must be Western Art Music of one of the genres we cover throughout the class. Consult your syllabus for genres we will cover, or ask me if you are unsure if a concert is acceptable.
Your report should include the name of the concert you went to, where it was held, the type of ensemble you listened to and the name of the performer or group. Name of your favorite piece or movement and describe it in as much detail of possible using your knowledge of beat, rhythm, meter, pitch range, timbre, dynamics and instruments. What about it did you like and why did it appeal to you? Then describe a little bit about your least favorite work on the program. How was it different from the piece you liked? What specifically about it do you not enjoy? (hint: "It was boring" is not a good answer.) What similarities, if any, did it have to the piece you liked?
I highly recommend you take the time to completely understand the assignment before attending the concert, and take notes specifically related to what you are supposed to report on while you are at the concert. You should be familiar with this assignment from your oral report. Your written report will be very similar to your oral report, but it should be more formal in tone. Remember to write clearly and in a style appropriate to an academic paper.

As the wireless access technology continues to evolve and become more flexible, planning and predicting performance of such networks becomes a challenging task. Often claims made in the popular media about the speed, scalability and reliability of the LTE networks are purely theoretical in nature, and the actual performance of these networks depends upon a myriad of factors. Understanding such factors and designing network deployments to achieve the maximal performance out of the given resources is indeed a critical task. In this lab exercise, we will study how OPNET Modeler/Guru can be used as a planning tool. We will use out-of-the-box reports, statistics, and other software tools to understand the network performance and how it relates to the LTE technology itself. Using planning workflows, we will optimize network parameters to achieve target objectives. In this assignment, you are going to construct a timeline in which you show how different events of the women's movement are interconnected.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Here are a few examples of full length concerts you can find online (by conducting a web search using the criteria below) that could be used for this assignment: on a winters night-Live from Durham Cathedral 2009 (watch all - salis and the - - You're Looking At Country - Legends In Concert You may choose a different concert video to watch, but be sure you include the URL of the concert you chose in your critique, or scan the program of the live concert you attended and attach it. The musical style of the concert should include at least one of the genres studied in this course. The Concert Critique should be 2.5 pages long, double spaced. It should contain five paragraphs that describe the following aspects of the concert you attended: 1. Who are the performers? Give the title of the concert and write something about the performers. Is it an orchestra? A choir? An ensemble? Solo artists? Why did you choose to attend
- 2. this particular performance? Tell as much as you know about the musicians that performed – are they professionals? Students? Teachers? How long have they been performing? Etc. 2. Describe the music that was performed on the concert. Use the musical characteristics that we have been learning in class. What genre is the music (opera aria? Jazz song? Standard tune? Solo instrument piece? Symphony?) 3. What style period was the music written in? What was the tempo, dynamics, texture, etc.? Sometimes the music in a concert will be only one genre. Sometimes there will be several genres performed. Attach the program to your critique, and then refer to the titles in the program. For example: “Autumn Leaves” was performed by a small instrumental ensemble (guitar, bass, and percussion). It is a standard contemporary tune. The tempo was a moderately slow ballad. It had a very mellow sound… 4. Tell how well you think the performers interpreted the music that was on the concert. Were the singers in tune? Did the piano player play musically and rhythmically? Do you think the performers communicated the music as it was meant to be communicated by the composer? 5. Tell which pieces or part of the concert was most moving or enjoyable for you. If you didn’t enjoy the concert very much, tell why you didn’t enjoy it. What could have been better? Be as specific as you can when expressing your opinion of the performance – don’t just write generalities like “It was nice” or “it made me feel like dancing”. Tell why the music made you feel like dancing. Write about why you particularly enjoyed that part of the concert. 6. Conclude your critique by summing up the performance and telling us if you would go to hear these performers again – or
