The causative is a special passive structure which is used to show that
you have asked a professional or a friend to do something for you, that
you hadn’t do it on your own.
I’m going to cut my hair.
Attention to the examples:
an active sentence
the subject = the agent
You’re going to cut your hair yourself.
I’m going to have my hair cut.
a causative
the subject = the patient
Someone is going to cut your hair.
He has mown his garden.
an active sentence
the subject = the agent
He has mown his garden himself.
He has had her garden mown.
a causative
the subject = the patient
Someone has mown his garden.
They are cleaning their car.
an active sentence
the subject = the agent
They are cleaning thier car themselves.
They are getting their car cleaned.
a causative
the subject = the patient
Someone is cleaning their car.
Structure:
Subject
(recieves the action)
+ have / get + complement + past participle
(the action)
He will get his bike repaired. (A mechanic will repair it)
I had my eyes tested. (An optician tested them)
Examples:
We should get our diet revised. (A nutritionist should revise it)
