THE EYE THAT SEES ONLY THE TRUTH

Hello and Welcome to the Second Semester of the By-
line in the Academic Year 2015-2016. It is actually one of
our functions of this student publication to keep you post-
ed with the events that happened inside and outside our
University. In fact, this new issue introduces new ideology
that education evolves itself in order to adapt standards of
quality instruction. Quality education is centered in the
heart of all Universities and Colleges in order that students
will embrace various learning domains and experiences for
their brighter future. Thus, outcomes-based education is
emphasized in the modern education relevant to the vari-
ous needs of students with respect to their learning styles
and multiple intelligences.
Meanwhile, educators, teachers and mentors will have to
create meaningful and motivating activities and programs
for the benefit of students in order to develop their full po-
tentials, skills and abilities, which will be useful and help-
ful for their future. Furthermore, understanding the con-
texts of outcomes-based education is very significant to
every student with the guidance and support of teachers in
order to apply the necessary learned skills and competen-
cies in their future career. Thus, students will be goal-
oriented with respect to performance tasks and activities
that transpired in teaching-learning process.
Outcomes-based education is a very relevant in the at-
tainment of goals of students in terms of classroom activi-
ties and experiences which will be helpful and useful in
transforming them into more competent, more confident,
more skilled, more versatile and more open-minded individ-
uals of the academic community. It is in this sense that to-
day’s education is very focussed on the academic perfor-
mance reflected in the outcomes-based education contexts.
It is also in this sense that students should adapt in order
to survive in understanding deeply the concepts and appli-
cations of outcomes-based education in view of pedagogy.
On the other hand, basic and higher education institu-
tions in both public and private adapt outcomes-based ed-
ucation in meeting and achieving the standards of quality
instruction so that students will experience activities that
will develop and enhance their skills, abilities and capabili-
ties as productive individuals in the future. Outcomes-
based education truly fosters equal learning opportunities
and experiences in the context of academic freedom and in
the standards of high quality instruction implemented in
the Universities and Colleges.

Surigao Del Sur State University (SDSSU) students scream their loudest
as presidential candidate Senator Poe, together with her runningmate for
vice-presidency Senator Escudero arrived at Prospero B. Pichay Sr. Gymna-
sium on December 4 to inform SDSSUans for their candidacy in the upcom-
ing national elections.
They arrived at around 1:00 in the afternoon escorted by the Board of Regents
Secretary Mrs. Catherine F. Salomon. The students as well as the faculty and
staff of SDSSU welcome the candidates with hospitality knowing that these peo-
ple might be the next leaders of our country.
Vice-Presidential candidate Senator Escudero expressed his gratitude towards
the students and faculty and staff for the warm welcome. Despite of the persis-
tent crowd still the candidate offered their warmest smiles.
Senatorial Candidate Atty. Kapunan also delivered her speech and purposes
for running in the position. She said that she will not promise but she will do her
best as part of the legislative body. On the other hand, Grace Poe said to the pub-
lic that if ever she will be elected as President as well as her subordinates their
primordial target are; sustainability of the economy, free education and free inter-
net access so that there will be freedom of information.

Even though, she was already facing
the disqualification case about her na-
tionality but still she continues the
fight.
After the short speech of the candi-
dates queries from the student repre-
sented by the three colleges namely
the College of Arts and Sciences
(CAS), College of Teacher Education
(CTE), and College of Engineering
Computer Studies and Technology
(CECST) were entertained.
Budding Researchers Presents Papers
on the 13th Institutional Research and

Surigao del Sur State Universi-
ty (SDSSU) Main Campus holds
the 13th Research and Develop-
ment In-house Review on Decem-
ber 3-4 at the Audio Visual Cen-
ter (AVC).
The event is conducted to pro-
vide a venue for paper presenta-
tions of completed research stud-
ies or projects of the faculty. It
also intend to assess research re-
sults in terms of significant find-
ings and identify technologies that
can be packaged for dissemina-
tion and to identify publishable
researches.
The Research and Develop-
ment institutional In-house review
started with an opening ceremo-
ny. After it was the presentation
proper of two categories: Catego-
ry A is for Fisheries, Agriculture,
Sciences, Engineering, Business
and Management. Mr. Cesar M.
Argallon, Dr. Fernado T. Herrera
and Muhnim Michael E. Manting
are the
panel of evaluators. Category B is
for Pedagogy, Language, Social
Sciences and other related stud-
ies. Dr. Fabian C. Pontiveros Jr.,
Dr. Adelyn Costello Abrea and Ms.
Catherine M. Salamon MELL are
the evaluators.
Some of the presenters in the
said event come from the faculty
of the College of Teacher Educa-
tion (CTE). Dr. Loayon, CTE Dean,
presented his paper about Cli-
mate Change Vulnerability Assess-
ment in the Coastal Villages of
Cortes, Surigao del Sur, Philip-
pines- Category A. Dr. Eupeña
bagged the gold award for Cate-
gory A with her research title Bio-
diversity of Nematode Assemblag-
es in Regions with Mine Sites in
Southern Mindanao.
In Category B, Samarca pre-
sented the Deskriptibong Pag-
susuri sa Estruktura ng Salita ng
Wikang Cantilangnun sa Surigao
del Sur.
While Dr. Montero presented
with her two researches,
namely, Sex Differences in Mathe-
matical Performance of Students
and Correlates Teachers’ Compe-
tence to Pupils’ Performance in
Mathematics. Dr. Bagood is also
one of the presenters with her
research entitled The Property of
Incorporating Learning Styles and
Multiple Intelligences in Philippine
Literature. Among the research
presenters from CTE, Dr. Suazo
garnered most of the awards such
as : Gold Award for her research
Interface of Literature and Cul-
ture : A Mamanua Experience and
Silver Award for the research
Transmission of Tud-om: An oral
Literature Genre of the Mamanu-
as in Surigao del Sur and Best Pre-
senter for Category B.
The R & D In-house Review
ended with the awarding ceremo-
ny and picture taking at the Audio
-Visual Center on December 4.

College of Teacher Education (CTE)
of Surigao Del Sur State University
(SDSSU) produced newly licensed
teachers as the Professional Regula-
tion Commission (PRC) released the
result of licensure examination for
Teachers.
CTE obtained a 12% increase of this
years result. “It is a n achievement
for our college and at the same time
a challenge for us to aim higher” Dr.
Loayon stated , the CTE Dean of in-
struction.
September 2015 LET Result reveals,
that the total percentage of passers is
79%.
Mr. Enderes, one of the LET passers
stated in an interview, “The in-campus
LET review offered by the school
helped me a lot in refreshing concepts
and has equipped me with enough
knowledge and techniques for the
tests.”
The result is a good indicator that
CTE is capable of producing young
professionals.

After the enormous preparation, the College of Edu-
cation (CTE) students ramp their sexiest pose and fabu-
lous attire as they exhibit their fashion on December
15, 2015 at the CTE ground. The event started at 6:00
in the evening.
The said activity is spearheaded by Ms. Maisa R. Biyo,
Physical Education (P.E.) instructor. It is participated by the
second year and some third year Bachelor of Secondary
Education students to develop their confidence in wearing
different types of attire.
Poise and bearing attracts the audience as they wear
the different attires. To name a few are summer, winter,
spring, autumn and fall. Miss Lea C. Balatayo stressed in
an interview that “Modeling helps in building self-confidence
and in how you are going to handle your nervousness espe-
cially if you are facing the crowd.
The event is also in preparation for future teachers to
provide different recreational activities for their
students. It is also in relation with the teaching of proper
grooming, and to teach the students proper walk and pos-
ture.
Indeed, students are grateful enough for the success of
the said activity though, others find it hard to walk like a su-
permodel.

College of Teacher Educa-
tion (CTE) students prove that
they are versatile and multi-
talented as they showcase their
talents on November 26, 2015 at
the CTE Building, Room 201.
The said event was participated
by Bachelor of Elementary Educa-
tion (BEEd) students on their
MAPEH subject, spearheaded by
Mr. Mick Mars P. Silvano their
instructor.
Every student presented their
individual talents gracefuly in
front of their instructors and
classmates. The event gives oppor-
tunities to the BEEd students to
show their hidden talents in sing-
ing, dancing, acting, drawing, etc.
The event emphasized how talent-
ed the CTE students are.
It is said that teachers are tal-
ented and must be firm enough in
facing the crowd. As what the ru-
mors say “Ang guro ay dapat
makapal ang mukha”.
This event served as a vehicle
to exercise the firmness of future
teachers, because through this ac-
tivities, the hidden talents and
skills of CTE students will be dis-
covered.
BEEd Reveals
Ravishing
Talents

Surigao Del Sur State University (SDSSU)
joins the 81st National book week celebration
on December 8, 2015 at Audio-Visual Center
which aims to instill in the students minds
about the significance of books in our lives.
The activity is in collaboration with the Philippine
Librarians Association. Inc. (PLAI), National Com-
mission For Culture and the Arts (NCAA) through
the National Committee on Libraries and Infor-
mation Services (NCLIS) and the National Library
of the Philippines (NLP) with its theme “The Filipino
Reader in the Era of ASEAN Integration”.
The activity was made successful because of
the active participation of students and faculty and
staff of the university.
The students and instructors are mesmerized
with the beautiful song rendered by a singer who
sings in tune, a good musician and a good perform-
er. These are the qualities of a star voice Ms. Re-
nalyn T. Escabusa one of the third year, English
major students of the College of Teacher Educa-
tion (CTE).

The participants of the culmination are
moved because of the message that the
song conveys which is entitled “I will al-
ways love you.” Her song also sends a
thought to everyone to love reading
books, to give one book and change eve-
ryone's life, to live and love libraries and
make the books an active part of our life-
style. Her wonderful voice also touched
the heart of Mr. Starbooks, which he says
that “I will always love you BOOKS”, the
song also made him happy.
Supreme Student Government Fails to Submit Proposal For
Year End Party

Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Surigao Del Sur State University
(SDSSU) announces the cancelation of year-end party on December 16, 2015
due to negligence of submitting proposals to the University President.
Mr. Abundio C. Miralles head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services
(OSAS) disseminates information regarding the abrupt decision to cancel the
year-end party.
Though the university wide year-end party is cancelled, College of Teacher
Education (CTE) still wants to celebrate it’s own year-end party exclusive for
CTE students.
Vice-governor of the League of Teacher Education Students (LTES), Wawie
E. Loreto announced that on December 18, 2015 the year-end party for CTE
students will still commence.
Christmas is the spirit of giving
without a thought of getting. It
is happiness because we see
joy in people. It is forgetting
self and finding time for others.
It is discarding the meaningless
and stressing true values.

Intuition
by Gerica Silades According to Lisa K. Cartwright “No two persons are alike.” This is quoted on the stu-
dent’s diversity which talks about the importance of being optimistic and respectful of the
individual differences.
Differentiated instruction is the answer. Through this kind of instruction, teachers
can accommodate the various needs and interests of diverse learners. As Future teachers
we must be well equipped and well-versed in the theory and actual experiences that makes
you a great teacher.
Mr. Mick Mars Pacheco Silvano a fresh graduate of Surigao Del Sur State University
(SDSSU) Main Campus, and a graduate Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Major in
English student, manages to conduct a graded skills and talents showcase for his 3rd year
Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) students as reflected in the Outcomes-Based
Education (OBE) course syllabus of MAPEH Foundation of Music, Arts, and Physical Educa-
tion
Everyone in the event gave his/her best as he/she showcases varied talents and skills.
Everybody seemed to be happy and satisfied in the success of the said event.
Engaging the students in such activity is a great way of enhancing and developing their
confidence and special talents and skills. It shows that teachers are aware of the unique
characteristic’s of each individual. It is evident in the song by Dawin that goes “they can
imitate you but they can’t duplicate you”.
I hope all of other teachers have this kind of initiative in which students are not just
learning but also enjoying every moment of instruction.

Being an English Major Student by Jollian Montenegro
Being an English major is never easy. I never imagine myself reaching this far and I have to admit that it takes so much
effort to be one. There are a lot of things I realized along the way. Being an English major is not just about memorizing the
concepts like the parts of speech, grammar, English tenses and other things. It is far more than that. It’s learning the con-
cepts by heart, that’s the thought that cou nts.
Also, being an English major doesn’t always have to do with how fluent you speak in English, how good you spell and how
well you pronounce words. To put it bluntly, being an English major doesn’t mean you have to be perfect with all of these
things. Nobody’s perfect. Sounds cliché. But definitely true: As long as you tried your best to learn these things to prove
yourself worthy to belong to the pact of English major students.
Lastly, being an English major doesn’t have the right to embarrass people specifically when they mispronounce a word. This
is what I’ve noticed when someone speaks in a faulty way others are laughing and what’s worse is that other people do cor-
rection in a cruel manner which is wrong considering the feelings of someone whom you’ve corrected. This kind of attitude is
a no-no. No, simply because it will hurt other people’s feeling. There’s nothing wrong in doing corrections but make sure it is
in a good way. It is one way of respecting others.
There are so many things left to do. To look forward as an English major. Just open your heart and mind, everything will
follow.

of Teacher Education (CTE) of Surigao Del Sur State University
(SDSSU) Rosario, Tandag City. The publication aims to expose the
hidden stories behind every unclean transactions and to praise
something worthy of a praise
CJWRECKS is formerly BYLINE by virtue of ISSN: 2244-1255.
under the advisory of Dr. Ma. Lady Sol A. Suazo. In order to ob-
serve the timeliness in the publication of stories, this newsletter
is deemed necessary to live upon the umbrella of the byline as
the mother-publication.
The College of Teacher Education stu-
dents exhibit their talents in crafting a fab-
ulous Christmas tree in front of the CTE
building. Indeed, the spirit of Christmas is
in the hearts of the future mentors.
The gigantic Christmas tree was built on
December 11 and was finished on December
14. The sole reason of building the Christ-
mas tree is to bring the atmosphere of
Christmas in the college and to realize the
College Year-end party.
Despite their hectic schedules in their
practice teaching they still manage to make
an effort of making such.
The ability to manage time is a vital
thing that needs to be instilled in their
hearts and minds. Being optimistic and re-
sourceful are one of the many characteris-
tics that every mentor should have.
Christmas in the
Hearts of Mentors

One December afternoon, I went out of our home trying to
catch the setting sun. I felt the contrast of the warm and cold air
swaying around me. The sensation reminds me of Christmas. It
makes me think of gifts, foods, and parties. Added to my con-
scious thinking were things that we especially do during Christmas
- forgiving, sharing and loving.
For us Christians, we see Jesus as the greatest giver of love. He
is an exemplar of real forgiveness and love. His crucifixion on the
cross proves us that He is the passionate, merciful and loving God.
Then here comes Santa Claus, the icon of Christmas. He is
known by most children and even the adults. He is believed to fill
the socks in our doors and the chimney walls with presents. Santa
even add more than what you wish if you keep to be a good per-
son.
Who should we patronize on Christmas? Is it Jesus? The one
who can give unconditional love to one and all, or Santa? The man
we used to hear in Christmas carols and is believed to be generous
during Christmas. Whom should we think ?

Christmas in our Hearts

Christmas spirit is everywhere on the 1st of September, the cool breeze, the festive
music everywhere and the houses are usually decorated with Christmas lights and
Christmas lanterns down to the very last detail. It is in this date that marks the beginning
of the yuletide season. Christmas is the most important time of the year, a time for for-
giveness, a time for sharing love to one another and also a time for celebrating moments
earlier in the year. It is a magical occasion that we celebrate annually.
Despite the modern ways of celebrating Christmas – shopping’s here and there, gift
giving’s, get together, Christmas parties and family reunions. It can’t be taken aside the
real essence of Christmas, it is not just about enjoyment but it is also a time to reflect on
you. As we celebrate Christmas we also celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. Alt-
hough, we have our own ways of celebrating it, still the message is the same.
Christmas day is a day of merrymaking and joy. In this occasion, everybody wishes
‘Merry Christmas’ to each other. There is an atmosphere of universal goodwill that pre-
vails in it. The spread of love, peace and most importantly the commemoration of the
birth of Jesus Christ are the supreme messages of Christmas.
Take a Fresh for New Year‘s Resolution

New Year is often a time to commit in making changes for a better life. A classic oppor-
tunity to look back over how things have been done and look forward to see on how to
improve it.
January is the beginning of the year when everybody can start a new meaningful life,
new obstacles to be faced, new pages to be filled with hope along the journey and most
of all creating new memories to be treasured. It is also the month when promises and
resolutions arise .
New Year‘s resolution for teenagers is just about making the right start in life and lead-
ing a responsible one in due course of time. It is the right time to check on bad habits and
follow a healthy lifestyle. New Year plans for teenagers is just about making someone feel
special and taking the right decisions in life. Since new year symbolizes new beginnings,
teens view it as an occasion to pledge for a good start. This new year resolution for teens
is more about bringing a spiritual change of mind and encouraging to participate in the
social activities both in school and nearby local community organizations.
These resolutions are said to be the guidelines or the way of every individual of what
really matters and what is really important to attain. It’s like a direction in life which leads
individuals in a right track and achieve healthy lifestyles.
Because according to Sophocles, “Success is dependent on effort,” without efforts all the
desired things and goals that are planned to be achieved are impossible to happen.

COMMEMMORATING COLLEGE YEAR END PARTY

According to an old maxim “There is ‘good’ in goodbye that is why don’t be afraid of saying
it.” College of Teacher education (CTE) students deserve a break from academic works. As the
College celebrates its year-end party, it is participated by the students and faculty as well.
There is a short program and intermission numbers are given to entertain the audience.
Also, Dean’s Listers for 2nd semester are recognized in the party. From the start up to the
end of the program, enjoyment is written all over the students’ faces as they share laughter
and tears and also bid goodbyes to their friends and classmates.
The celebration only proves that there are a lot of things to be enjoyed. It also serves as an
opportunity for students to spend quality time together with their friends, classmates and
A New Year’s Resolution: The Essence of Change

New Year is an event specifically in making resolutions and firm decisions to do or not to do something.
A New Year resolution is the essence of change where people make a promise or a decision that they do
things better than before.
New Year is slowly approaching and with the holiday season already upon us , many people indulge in
reflecting some of their choices. New Year’s resolutions are perfect opportunities for all those who have fail
to start making the changes that they said they would make next week, next month or perhaps when they
just think of it.
I remember, one of those moments that my friend ask me what would be my new year’s resolution? And
that moment, I have nothing to say because I don’t really understand what is it. At that time, we are just in
Grade 6 , then I laughed myself in my mind. I simply answered her just for the sake of shame, “For me, my
new year resolution is to make my family complete.” Then she laughed at me (it is just like telling me that I
am wrong). As a revenge, I threw back the question to her, “How about you? What would be your New
Year’s resolution?” She paused for a while and think. A few minutes then, she answered “ For me, I want to
have a house and lot, a brand new car and everything that makes me happy.” Then, we laughed together
pretending that both of us knew the meaning of New Year’s resolution. See? When we are still young, we
are able to learn from our innocence.
Whether you are planning on making a New Year’s Resolution or you have just decided that you are
ready to finally let go of the past and change your future, then it is only reasonable that we choose to expe-
rience the shifts in our decisions in an easy way as possible. After all, life is about having fun, enjoying every
moment of the many life experiences that await us and making the very best of it. We only live once and if
we do it wisely, once is enough.
However, based on the Oxford’s Encyclopedia, New Year’s resolution is a tradition, in which a person
makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice in the New Year's Day. Per-
haps, we can describe New Year resolution as a way of changing what has been acquired in a past few years.
We must get into the part in which our minds and hearts are comfortable to do and what makes us better
than we are before or shall we say “Living with new problems and weaknesses in life,” is the best way to
define it in a simpler way. But ,the first thing that comes in our minds as our New Year’s Resolution, is
changing your lifestyle. Yes it is, but one thing that we can’t really immediately change is the person who is
within us. Because being who you are can only prove that you are just one of the beautiful creations of Al-
mighty God.

COMSELEC drives for SSC and College Elections

February 12, 2016 OSAS director, Mr. Miralles and COMSELEC Chairman Mr. Tokong call
orientation for official candidates of SSC and college elections. Candidates gather in the stu-
dent activity center and introduced their names and what college they come from including the
party they belong to.
Election guidelines are presented and explained by Mr. Miralles. After the orientation, a fo-
rum is initiated and facilitated by Mr. Tokong. Candidates clarify point which is unclear for
them. In the middle of the forum Mr. Miralles added “This year, we will be particular of the
campaign materials to be used. Only one tarpaulin is allowed for each party with the size of
five by six inches. Moreover, candidates are not allowed to wear their party shirts during the
election proper.”
Mr. Tokong then announces the election date which will be on February 15, 2016 from
8AM to 6PM.The orientation started 1:30 P.M and ended at 4:45 P.M.

Governor: No financial Collection
College governor candidate Wawie Loreto said as he was ask in the college forum
what will be the progress of the college in their administration. “As it is said to our plat-
forms IGP or the Income Generating Product is one of our project plans. This project is a
“No financial collection” the remedial of this project is the financial left by the past ad-
ministration.”,-Loreto said. The IGP will help the college to have funds that to use for
any projects or activities that will be hold by the college. The goal of this project is to
help the students in terms of school materials such as paper, pens, art papers and oth-
er school supplies that a student needs.
Assurances from the LTES Body
As the forum goes on, the college of teacher education candidates was ask on what
are the assurance that they will give to the students. Here are some of their assurance.
Governor: kung may tiwala sa isang tao magagawa natin ang pag-babago. The leader
will be followed by the officials.
Vice-Gov.: promise is a promise. Services will be given.
Secretary: proper organization of attendance.
Treasurer: proper budget proposal before the release of the money.
Auditor: Accurate financial report.
Business Manager: effective way of canvassing.
P.I.O.: help the organization to flow properly.
Sergeant at arms: duties and responsibilities, unity and peace of the college.

nuel O. Alameda, Sr Provincial Governor,
Hon. Johnny T. Pimentel, Provincial Gover-
nor, Hon. Roxanne C. Pimentel, Provincial
Mayor. With Mr. Glenn Serrano and Ana
Maureen Cuarteron being the emcee’s, the
signing Ambassadors also give their very
well performance as well as the 36IB “ Jal-
or Band” and the “ Tandag City Band”.
Most of the students are coming from the
College of Teacher Education who are still
wearing their school uniforms because
they thought that the “ Concert for Peace”
will start at 6:00 pm.
The concert was very lively and enter-
taining. The 36IB really prove to us that
even if they are so busy in their military
works, they still have time to enjoy and be
with many people.

Becoming a part of the University as a
student is also being a responsible one. You
should follow school rules and regulation and
of course you should bear in my mind about
what are your responsibility as a student and
as a part of the school as well. And as one of
the group, and a part of the school you should
obey simple policies and school rules. One of
this rule is to wear complete uniform and ID as
well. But as what we can see and observed in
our university today, there are a lot of students
who do not wear their school uniforms.
There are also other student who just
put their ID’s inside their bags. They are part
of the university and they should obey school
policies. We all know that wearing school uni-
form is one of the way that best describes our
school’s name. it can really affect also the
standard and integrity of the school. When
people see us wearing school uniform they will
think immediately that we are coming from that
certain school or universities. And they might
thinking that we are proud of being a part of
that school since we are bringing the school’s
name by observing and obeying schools poli-
cies through wearing school uniform. but sad
to say, many students went to school by wear-
ing white t-shirts, pants and other styles of
clothing.
I am wondering about this matter, why do
they can get inside the campus where in fact
they do not wearing school uniform and others
also doesn't have ID’s? Whose to blame with
this kind of situation? The student? Or the per-
sons who are responsible for letting the stu-
dents in? we all know about the school rules
and regulation.
Its just a simple task for all of us if we really
obey it, but why is this happening ?where in
fact we already know about our responsibility
as an individual and as a part of the group. Is
that a hard thing to do Or Is it really difficult to
be a responsible one?
If that simple tasks and responsibility cannot
be attain, what’s the purpose of becoming a
part of the university? Why studying in this uni-
versity?

LT ES Candidates Forum 2016

speeches and promises in a forum held at the Audio Visual Center, February 10 2016.
The speech starts from the candidates of the Sgt. @ arms: Cristuto Mongado III and Johny B. Mag-
lasang. It follows with the Bus. Manager, Kirby Galier and AmmabellePlatil.P.I.O, MaikaJessa Fruit and Aimee
Romero.Auditor, Angelo Gabriel Aboloc.Treasurer, CrisMongado.Secretary, Princess AljeanGealon. Vice
Mayor, JaymarGalinzoga, and lastly, the candidate for mayor Mr. Wawie Loreto. The candidates uttered that
despite of the truth that they don’t have any opponent, they will still assure to the CTE students that they are
deserving enough to win.
The candidate for mayor Mr. Wawie Loreto stated their four platforms: Educational materials for fines,
study shed, the IGP (income Generating Product) and the public address. He also utter the three assurances
to realized the platforms, these are the: “Pagtutulungan, Pagpupursigido, and hardworking”.

their Campus Journalism class with the presence of their adviser Mr. Mick Mars Pacheco Silvano.

Campus Journalism: Beyond the Competition Mode

According to Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, in the fight against poverty and extreme hunger, the advocacy should start from the
young. There is power in the pen and we highlight this in our school journalists and their publications. We enlist their active partici-
pation in this advocacy because our young journalists know how to optimize the power of communication.
Campus journalism serves as a means to strengthen the ethical values and encourage the creative and critical thinking of the Filipino
youth. It also helps in developing the personal discipline and moral character of the young. One of the most effective means of teach-
ing students the basic and advanced writing techniques and inculcating in them the values of work and fair judgment is campus jour-
nalism. It is a good training ground or pool for future journalists or at least writers. Through the school paper, student writers are able
to develop their skills and enhance their craft.
Moreover, with campus paper, both the campus journalists and the target audience appreciate the role of the press in shaping pub-
lic opinion. The public expects the teachers to mentor the students on campus journalism, even though some advisers lack the skills
to write even the most basic form of journalistic practice, news writing. Separate training for mentors should also be conducted so
that they too would be equipped. Moreover, the teaching of campus journalism in high school and elementary should go beyond the
competition mode. The holding of competitions to test the skills of school children on campus journalism might have worked to a
certain point but making the students practice campus journalism more might do miracles and fish more youth to the craft of factual
reporting. Students should be trained to write for life not for competition. There is a wide room for creativity in providing more ef-
fective avenues for the young writers to practice. With the advent of internet, advisers can use high school students having more time
to be online to make the blogs as medium for their writing skills to develop. There are many social networking sites with blogging
features where students can post their creative works. Besides, it provides more opportunities for critiquing, and also pride and sense
of accomplishment for the students. They become more motivated to write when they see their work read by the public. Expectations
have to be adjusted with regards to quality of work but advisers can always provide inputs to their writers. It is imperative then that
advisers and student writers recognize the value of campus journalism. For the advisers, it is not a day's work they have to get over
and done with; it is an opportunity to grow professionally and personally. For the students, it is not an additional academic burden

JaymarGalinzoga is a third year BEED student, a former mayor of second year and also an
LTES officer. He uttered that through these experiences, he already know how to lead and to handle
the responsibility as the vice mayor of the LTES. He also speak-out his purpose of running which is
to serve the studentry of CTE, take charge to manage the Officers and do his responsibility to the

In the Ideology of Suffrage

With the principles of leadership and power in the country, every Filipino citizen will have to vote wise-
ly of which presidential candidate is most deserved to become the next president in the Republic of the
Philippines.
It actually encourages Filipino citizens to exercise their right to suffrage in order to fulfil the principle
of the democratic community. Also, it connotes that we have the right to evaluate each of the presidential
candidates if their platforms respond and relate to the needs of the future. Thus, the Filipino citizens will
have to weight things in both positive and negative sides including presidential candidates’ values and vir-
tues in life. In fact, their names are written and included in order to inform the public who are officially
leading for presidency. In other words, it is time for all of us to choose and vote who will be the next pres-
ident of this country and let us not forget that election time is our time. Thus, we have to be stronger and
wiser to vote for our next president in the Republic of the Philippines.
The right to vote is one of the important democratic principles in which every citizen has the right to
choose and vote for his/her candidate who will lead the country. Everyone of us is entitled with the right
to vote for we have the power to change the world if we are united and solidified with a common vision
and mission. In other words, change begins for the whole country if we are wiser to vote for our next lead-
ers in the future. From them, we are able to create new hope and inspiration for our family , for the poster-
ity and inherit that kind of leadership to influence lives and perspectives in order to believe that we have
our own choices and decisions to make and undertake. Thus, we have to embrace consequences and shad-
ows in life that will make us challenged and believed for the common good of the majority.

To come up with a school/college paper does not require typical efforts. instead it demands unique,
wonderful, innovative and forceful efforts forged towards the making of the information paper. You will
encounter different writers with different writing styles and perspectives. Criticisms are expected along
the way yet criticisms only manifest how effective the school paper is. It all boil down to the journalism

As Surigao del Sur State University envisions to be an exemplary and outstanding State Univer-
sity in the local and global perspectives, the University administration has made and done relevant
programs and activities, accreditations in promoting academic excellence and sustainable develop-
ment. Meanwhile, the University has offered various programs and courses with board and non-
board examinations with respect to CHED updates, mandates and issuances in which the University
is monitored and evaluated by virtue of the programs and courses that they offered. Hence, this
idea calls with the retention policy of the University.
In view of the context of the retention policy, University has to do rigid with series of monitor-
ing activities and evaluations for students with respect to classroom assessments, entrance and qual-
ifying examinations in order to evaluate student’s academic performance properly and appropriate-
ly. On the contrary, many students will protest and disagree with the policy if it is not properly
guided, reinforced and implemented. In other words, students should be properly informed with the
rationale of the policy so that they should have enough time to prepare and face the standards and
requirements of a certain program or course of the University.
With respect to the University administration, guidelines of the retention policy should serve
with proper implementation only for programs/courses with board programs of the University, viz:
teacher education, engineering, agriculture, midwifery and fisheries in which the Commission in Higher

Education (CHED) has monitored of its board passers in accordance with CMO No. 15 S. 2005,
Article 1 Section 2, “ the Commission shall have the power and function to monitor and evaluate
performance of programs and institutions of higher learning for appropriate incentives as well as
the impositions of sanctions such as but not limited to, diminution or withdrawal of subsidy, recom-
mendation on the downgrading or withdrawal of accreditation program termination or school clo-
sure” .
However, programs/courses with no board examinations are subject for no retention policy if
permitted by the SDSSU Board of Regents for as long as the student meets his/her academic re-
quirements of the certain course/program. On the other hand, this issue does not against to students’
rights and academic freedom in Higher education but to help them informed that the University has
to set its standards in attaining academic excellence and sustainable development.

SDSSU Sepak Takraw Team is again the
champion during MASTS 2015 at Pagadian
City, Zamboaga del Norte. With the support of
their coach Mr. Gilbert Gasis, the team gar-
nered 9 golds.
Luckily, Carl Patrick Lambaco of SDSSU
team is declared as the Best Tekong and MVP
of the year and Mr. Gilbert Gasis is the best
coach. Joedemar Ariar, Hyson Suarez, and
Roentgen Villasin, a CTE students are one of
the team. According to Mr. Ariar, being in a
team, it is a great pleasure and privilege,
pleasure because it is what they want to and
it’s a privilege because the pride of SDSSU is
on their hands.
With 3 consecutive wins, the team losses
the 4th game but still they will play in semi-
final (crossover) and semi-final. After winning

Technology in the Classroom

Everyone wants teachers to use technology in the classroom in meeting the standards
of quality education. Also, the proliferation of social media and technology has changed
the way educators teach, how students learn and the way teachers and students com-
municate.
Furthermore, the use of technology in the classroom will help the teaching- learning
process more effective and more meaningful with respect to the lesson objectives.
Meanwhile, it adds a comprehensive information and knowledge that will motivate and
encourage learners to study and learn and it gives direct instructions and facilitates
learning process. In the context of traditional instruction, teaching strategies and
methods are inadequate that learners will learn few and ineffective. In other words, the
emergence of modern technology to improve, update and upgrade the education sys-
tem helps each learner to realize and substantialize the importance of teaching learning
process in the classroom environment.
Thus, classrooms nowadays are improving and adopting technology to integrate,
corporate and facilitate learning in line with the lesson objectives that focuses particu-
larly on k to12 program of basic education and in higher learning respectively.

Teaching is the best profession that I know because it touches hearts and minds of people. It actually influ-
ences and changes perspectives and beliefs of people on what they think and on how they live up their dreams
and aspirations. Some people think that teaching is stressful and meaningless but most of us believe that
teaching is the key to open-mindedness and appreciation to the literature and language of life. In fact, teach-
ing is best achieved if teachers integrate their lessons in real life scenarios/situations so that the students can
connect and share their experiences in class. In other words, experiences will help building and constructing a
bridge between teacher and students relationships towards meaningful learning process.
Furthermore, teaching is sharing and giving hope and love to students in inspiring them to achieve their am-
bitions and dreams. In this context, we are trying to bring them to the reality of life that everyone of us dreams
and aspires to succeed and pursue more achievements. In other words, integration is bringing the reality
through experiences in teaching. Teachers will be aware of the students’ background knowledge and under-
standing to the events that had happened to their lives. There is a strong connection and realization that
teachers and students are learning together happily and meaningfully.
When you become a teacher, integration will your lessons to capture students’ interests in bringing them to
the reality because it is one of the effective approaches in teaching that experiences truly help and bring learn-
ing processes and outcomes in class. Integration is a language that communicates between the teachers and
students experiences and it is also a literature that lives in minds and hearts timelessly reflecting their various
experiences.
Integrate your lessons to the reality where learning experiences are achieved with confidence and determi-
nation. Teach them of what you can share; tell them of what you can help; inspire them on how to achieve
dreams and guide them the path where success lives. All of these encouraged your students to live up their
dreams and see their future ahead. In other words, teach them with integration to express their thoughts and
emotions for meaningful learning.
Teacher Education Leadership Empowerment

Teacher education programs of Higher Education envision to the standards of quality education and academic
excellence. Hence, it characterizes the importance of teacher education to live up its vision and mission of the
University. Furthermore, quality instruction and training of teacher education programs should organize commu-
nity activities and extension services in order to contribute effective learning to the significance of education.
Thus, supervision and management are important keys to the personal and academic development of the
practice teachers. Moreover, importance of the practice teaching aims in guiding the future professional teach-
ers to follow rules and guidelines by virtue of the laws prescribed in the Philippine constitution that they are ad-
hered to learning not only on basis of quality instruction and training but also professionalism.
In fact, a number of experiences they gained and the circumstances that they had been through the years will
serve as stepping stone and training ground as well in realizing the importance of education. Through to the wis-
dom of John F. Kennedy “leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” In other words, through su-
pervision and management given and provided to the practice teachers, it helps improve their character, values
and skills in dealing situations and activities. Also, it enhances their personality, perspectives and learning capa-
bilities in doing tasks and assignments that truly require efforts, perseverance, accountability and responsiveness
that can influence lives in different situations and improve ways in dealing with character and professional devel-
opment.

Deficiency: Facilities and Services

In this past globalizing world, we can’t deny the fact that education is aided with technology.
Based on my own observation and 3 years of existence in this university, I noticed that it doesn’t
follow with its vision that will provide quality education, because “quality education demands qual-
ity instructional materials.”
LCD projectors, classrooms, chairs and other facilities that are lacking is highly looked – at by
the concerned students. Another thing is, we must not accept the compliments of the personnel
working at different office in our school, we pay for it, and yet we don’t get what is due to our pay-
ments? Remember, we are still dependent to our parents who are not all professionals that work
very hard to send us to school and yet we get that less?
How ironic life brings us really. Students can’t experience change when they are afraid to speak
up or worst murmur with their friends about their issues that wouldn’t help. According to our in-
structor, Mr. Mickmars P. Silvano, “we must not be afraid to speak for the truth and report.
“Because if we did, we just adding, making the scenario a cycle.
The Hallmarks of Good Leadership
Through to the wisdom of Ray Kroc “the quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for
themselves”. It’s been a culture in our university that annually we need to choose a leader that can man-
age, change, inspires and a leader who stands not only for his cause but takes responsibility and motivates
others. But what is present nowadays? Are they really doing their part? Is there a change that transpires in
our university? How can we describe an effective leader? What are the hallmarks of becoming a good lead-
er?
Basically, being a leader is somewhat like raising thousands of sheep with limited shepherds, in other
words, a leader must be vigilant and obtained the trait of extraversion, one must have the habit of being
predominantly concerned of what is happening inside the university. According to psychologists, if you pos-
sess the traits of intelligence, extraversion, adjustment, openness to experience, and general self – efficacy
and conscientiousness surely it will lead into good governance and considered to be a good leader. In some
cases, there are leaders who failure to do so with their responsibility not because that they are obedient
and responsible but because they lack the traits that a leader should have. It is very evident today and even
in our university that leaders are not responsible enough and they did not take actions to the prevalent
problems. How can we say that they are a good leader? It is then if they contribute changes and motivates
for others and inspires every individual to soar high and attain that aim.
Some people said that a leader is innate to a person but this is somehow a big mistake that every one of
us must be aware of because we all have the ability to lead, it does not even require wealth and power, all
of us can be a leader also by acquiring those leadership skills. Some studies said that “leadership is not a
quality but it is an individual behavior.” Thus, a leader should be optimistic and have self-esteem; we must
be assertively works towards the goals but not to be pushy for it. The goal is attained by mutual coopera-
tion and cohesive behavior.
Finally, it takes time in acquiring the leadership skills. It will undergoes different processes, by learning
those it is indeed painful you can’t acquire it in just a blink of an eye. Thus, practice in imbibing positive
skills and have a self-training because learning is truly a painful process.

Inside the Bag of CTE Students

Every individual has its unique routine in the world in starting a day, eating breakfast, dress for
school or work, enjoy the day, go to bed and sleep, but in a CTE student having a day is a long pro-
cess. Waking up so early in the morning to study lessons, eating breakfast ina few minutes, dress for
school like joining in a race, walk to school like joining a marathon, wearing a “biting-lip smile”, think-
ing too much questions like, Is my instructor’s there? Is he/she having a written or oral quiz today?
While holding so many things like books or folders, having a huge bag like your going to vacation then
going home, scanning the notes, studying the lessons until midnight before going to bed and fall
asleep.
A huge bag of a CTE student is like a CTE department, it consists of different students. There are
those what we call “go with the flow”, “nerds”, retarded. Small but terrible, cool, but mostly they
called the “haggard ones”.
Haggard as what the Meriam-Webster dictionary defines as-looking very thin and tired especially
from great hunger, worry or pain.
Looking very thin because of pressure, stress, study and everything it may cause, tired of studying,
walking from CTE department-library-computer laboratory, great hunger especially when you don’t
have something to eat because you don’t have money to buy because the money of a CTE students is
intended for paper works like photocopying, printing and everything, worry especially for grades. Be-
cause in CTE student, having a good grade is like winning a lotto but having a low grades is like sitting
in an electric chair.
That is how a life of a CTE students, there are moments that they experienced too much stress and
too much enjoyment, as well.
Life of a CTE student is like experimenting, constructing a sentence, searching for formulas to solve
the problems and searching a notes in creating a new melody of life but the best way .to construct a
life is to learn everything and pray to the Almighty Father which every CTE student knows.
Fix, Offer and Recommend; that’s What love Can Do
“Loving is the way of appreciating in the way that everyone can learn from it.”
Things would be easy if no one in this world feel hatred and confuse for what
life would be, rather expect for tomorrow’s challenge that makes you better than
yesterday. .
Sometimes love bring us to the world of nothingness, emptiness and blindness;
it may be in that way, but if we really go for it and understands everything there
would be a fate for us that God only knows.
Love can fix for those who believe of it, it really gives and offers you the best of
what you need in life, also love can be recommend for the person who supposed to
climb on top of mountain for the person they value and appreciate the most, that’s
what loves supposed to do by keeping you in the right track you’ll do.

Run this February 6, 2016 at the Vicen-
te T. Pimentel Sr. Boulevard for its aim
in making Suriagao Del Sur a Red
Cross emblem misuse free province.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) ad-
vocates lead the biggest run for human-
ity. It is a simultaneous event that is
held all over the different cities and mu-
nicipalities of Surigao. It is a run for to
promote and prevent unscrupulous enti-
ties from taking advantage in using the
Red Cross emblem.
It is also a way of raising funds for the
millions of Red Cross beneficiaries who
are extremely devastated by calamities
including the ‘Lumads’ who are evacu-
ees in the Vicente Pimentel Sr. Sports
Complex in Capitol Hills, Telaje, Tandag
City because of the lumad killings and
to continue the bloodletting and sharing
advocacy of the Philippine Red Cross.

San Miguel Pride (SMP), a well- known so-
cial media organization of San Miguel had given
30 slippers to the pupils of Magroyong Day Care
Center on Wednesday January 13, 2016.
According to Jolelyn Tubal, Day Care
Teacher, the outreach program of SMP was a
blessing especially for those below poverty line
pupils who can’t afford to buy slippers. Parents
of the pupils are also very thankful upon receiv-
ing slippers for their children.San Miguel Pride is
an organization of OFW’s and professional per-
sons coming from San Miguel who’s aim is to
help their native people of San Miguel. And one
of their project is the “gasa sa Katauhan, Tsi-
nalas para sa Kabataan” program.
SMP continues to give free slippers to all un-
der previledged children in San Miguel. Today
they have given children over 200 pair of slip-
pers of restoring each childs dignity.
The organization is still giving away not only
slippers for kinder pupils but also they have
feeding programs for Elementary pupilsand
more outreach programs in order to help San
Miguelnons.
The Campaign firmly aspire kids all over the
San Miguel and even to other places, Municipali-
ties in achieving their goals and dreams with the
hope that none of them will never attend school
barefooted.

just come up with the same answers, they
said “I was bless and proud to speak out
nationwide my overwhelming happiness
because everything in my life I find a calm-
ing feelings that make me feel grateful and
satisfied for what I have in life, the peace,
the love and also the glory of our Sto. Ni-
ño”. See it is really true because this event
were sinking in to the heart, process by
your brain and articulated by your mouth.
For sure, when it is in the month of Janu-
ary expects that the level of excitement to
Diwatahan Festival grows more intense
year by year; it is not a guarantee that each
one of us is well-informed of its wealthy be-
ginning. In fact, a question of this what is
meant by “Diwatahan” as a counterpart of
Sinulog in Cebu, sometimes is a shrug in
return, but for I bet, not everyone knows or
well-informed about it. So, we need to take
a look.
The word Diwatahan comes from
the adverb Diwa which roughly means
“Magsaya at Magsadya”, it describes that
every Tandaganons enjoys and overwhelm

Surigao del Sur State University engaged LLM
concrete products as their main contractor for the
building of the new SDSSU SPORTS PARK, Lo-
cated at SDSSU Main Campus, Tandag City, The
sports park is a 2.5 acre including Tennis court
and basketball court.
Started their building and construction work last
November 2015. The cost of this project is esti-
mated about 3,497,214.17 Pesos. The sports
park serves the existing student body by provid-
ing and enhancing opportunities for students
and recreational activities.
The proposal land scape improvement is de-
signed to enhance the natural field of the
campus uplands and compliment the restored
flood plain environment of the campus low-
land.
All the staff and students from the university
are eagerly waiting for the completion date
which is expected to be this march of this
year 2016.
Being said all work and no play keeps the
mind at the bay.

Agriculture is one of the way of living in San Miguel. This place is known to be one of the big
areas of rice plant in this province. The problem of the farmers presently are the medicine. Because
of the attack of pests and insects, there plants will not grow well and at the same time it may also
produced a low quality of amount or income. Mostly farmers are worrying about this situation be-
cause they are not the one who produced for their financial. Some of them are having a loan at can-
tilan bank in order to have a financial support to their plants.
They are happy knowing that the Department of Agriculture invited them for a seminar last
January 13, 2016. This seminar conducted for almost 3 days, it was held at the barangay san roque
covered court at 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. They are also having a free snacks and a free lunch. Its al-
most around 500 farmers who attended the said seminar and it was headed by Brgy Captain Hon.
Ramon Bong Esmao.
This seminar was all about how they will going to make a medicine in a way that it is more
saving and affordable. The Department of Agriculture teaches them how to use organic fertilizer for
their plants, according to DOA organic fertilizer are much better to use as a fertilizer rather than
those fertilizer that can be bought from any market or store. After 3 days, the said seminar was suc-
cessfully done.
The farmers are happy not just because they will be having their certification but for all the
learning that they get from the said seminar.

Lumads are amazed with the surprise visit of singer composer and child star
Ms. Aiza Seguerra this day January 6, 2016 at the Vicente Pimentel Sr. Sports
Complex , Capitol hills, Telaje , Tandag City for a free concert offered to the victims
of lumad killings.
According to some witnesses before Aiza Segeurra went to the evacuation cen-
ter in Telaje, she is spotted earlier at Gold Bar Restaurant to have their lunch. Fans
were astonished as they see there idol in flesh while taking their ‘selfies’ with the
star. In the evening Aiza Seguerra took dinner at Mang Tsibog’s Grill in Cabrera.
After a long day of touring around the city, Aiza Seguerra finally went to the
evacuation site to fulfill her purpose of giving the ‘lumads’ the free concert for a
cause.

A Celebration
for Peace and
Harmony
“Barangay Bongtud celebrates the 96
years fiesta celebration of our Lady of
Lourdes on February 11, 2016 held at
Purok Santan, Serra Street, Bongtud
Tandag City in one of the pilgrimage site
which is the Grotto”
On February 11, 2016, Barangay Bongtud
celebrates a fiesta celebration in honor to our
Lady of Lourdes to bring a peace and harmo-
ny to all of the devotees and especially to the
people of Bongtud. At exactly 1:00 in the af-
ternoon, they begin with a novena starting in
the Barangay Santa Cruz going to the Grotto
and when they came there they offer a nove-
na prayer to our Lady of Lourdes, this will end
until 5:30 in the late afternoon. In order to ac-
cess to the top of the Grotto devotees climb
up for the 78 steps.
Many people go to the top of the Grotto
usually pray and light up a candle below to
the image of our Lady of Lourdes.
This event was successfully done for the
cordial support of Ex-Mayor Ayek T. Pimentel
and Mayor Roxanne T. Pimentel and to all
the officials of Barangay Bongtud and espe-
cially to the officers of the said event which is
also one of the devotees of our Lady of
Lourdes.
According to Mrs. Melba Solis one of the
devotees there is solicited money for the
drinks and food, so in the onset of this event,
there was a lot of people bring flowers and
candle especially snacks to all of the devo-
tees and the people who go up in the Grotto.
Quality Education in
SDSSU
As a State University in the province of Surigao
del Sur, it offers various programs and courses
that will respond to the needs of the students.
Most of these programs are relevant to the needs
and demands for employment.
It is the actually the interest of the students to
enroll in this University for what they have heard
and learned as well from various students and
alumni of this University. We are very proud and
glad that we have a University like Surigao del
Sur State University in the province in which the
students will no longer go to the city looking big-
ger universities for enrolment.
The University has undergone series of accredi-
tations and programs relevant in sustaining quality
education which is why the students are looking
for this because they believe that education is best
if instruction is properly guided and reinforced
with the principles of good teaching and learning
processes.
As a Second Courser, I am thinking that
SDSSU has many to offer to all of us especially
the high caliber instructors who are very exempla-
ry in their teachings and mentorship. I really ad-
mired how the administration made its best in or-
der to sustain quality education as well as the aca-
demic staff on how they mold the students in their
classroom activities in order that they will show
their best in most challenging tasks that they can
achieve and succeed. In other words, SDSSU has
to continue giving quality education in order to
support students and later guide them in their
brighter future. SDSSU has to embrace the ideals
not only in quality instruction but also in the de-
livery of quality services which are very important
aspects and thrusts relevant and reflected in the
Vision and Mission of the University.

Cagpanginons in Unity
Citizens of Sitio Cagpangi gather at exactly 6:00 oclock in the morning for an Oplan Alay
Linis. This is iniated by the Purok President Trinidad B. Rebuyon. The said activity is con-
ducted to promote cleanliness, healthy environment and for the safety of all people living
in this community. All of them have designated area to clean to name a few these are:
cleaning the canals, throwing the garbage and making a composite and trash can.
Indeed, Vice-President Emerterio Demol is pleased and thankful enough for the people
of Cagpangi for the services that they had rendered for the success of this activity.
SDSSU Review: Effective or Not?
“You cannot teach a man anything, you can only help him find it within himself” – Galileo

Surigao del Sur State University (SDSSU)-Main Campus conducted a review for Licensure
Examination for teacher (LET) to support the upcoming examination. When the examination
end, I and my colleagues in CTE favored that the review of SDSSU was very effective because
it follows an outcomes-based education in the National Competency-based Teacher Stand-
ards (NCBTS), as we can see in the result of the LET passers is in the high rank, compared to
the previous passers. But in this case we can conclude that SDSSU review for LET is improv-
ing because in every examination SDSSU is not in the lowest rank, it may be in the middle or
else in high level when examination was evaluated.

To understand English, it is not only about language but also literature. English is a very rich language because of its
unique and useful in communication process. In modern era, English language is a lingua franca in which diverse people
around the globe use English in communication in order to understand and communicate one another. Meanwhile, most
of the literatures of the world are written and translated in English so that people can connect and relate situations in the
past, present and future. In fact, we can speak with our own native language because it is our culture and language inher-
ited in our existence. But, if we are going to use our language to speak with non-natives of our language. Thus, we can-
not understand one another. Positively, if we speak English as an alternative way of understanding others, we can make
it. Language and Literature in English is special because of its unique tastes and ambiance when someone listens and
speaks to it. In other words, we need English in life to understand communication process in diversity for humanity.

BSED-English students divides into two
groups for Role Play presentation in English
22: Mythology and folklore. The presentation
started at 3:00 pm at CTE building on March
22, 2016.
English students impersonate the gods and
goddesses in Egyptian mythology and Norse
mythology in their role play presentation. Before
the play starts they have first a Cos play in
which they introduce their selves and give a sort
of explanation about the god they have imper-
sonated.
English students stressed that the play is not
easy for them to act because they are not just
giving the line in having a conversation but ra-
ther, all the line in conversations they are going
to sing it. But since CTE students are known to
be talented, bright and initiative, having this
kind of presentation is just an easy for them. In-
deed, they tried their best in order to present a
good and more than the expectation of their in-
structor.
The first group who presents the play is the
Norse mythology group followed by the Egyp-
tian mythology group. The gods and goddesses
are very handsome and beautiful because they
impersonate well their chosen god. Because of
their very creative and innovative attire, it gives
more life to the play. Viewers are shock and
amaze of the performance of every gods and
goddesses, as they bring their audience in to the
real scenario of what they’ve presented.
The said event is spearheaded by Dr. Maria
Lady Sol A. Suazo, English 22 instructor. After
the two presentations, Dr. Suazo gives her critics
to the performers and congratulates the effort
and success as well as the good performance
they have presented.

Third year English major had their roles play based on the different stories of gods and
goddesses of the Philippines as a requirement for the midterm in English 22 under the class of
Dr. Maria Lady Sol A. Suazo. The class was divided into three groups; the first group to per-
form is the Luzon version of the story of creation the main character. Mr. Angelito Pera as
Bathala, Mr. Kirby Gallier as Galang Kaluluwa and Miss Marjorie Rosete as Ulilang kalulu-
wa. The next to present is the group of Mindanao in the story of creation Mindanao version
the main character was Mr. Constantino Crabajales, the firstr man and woman were Mr. Mark
Brandon Serrano and Miss Gracel Gujilde.
Lastly, it is the Visayan story of creation with their puppetry. Dr. Suazo announced the
winner, the group of Mindanao was proclaimed as the winner with a total of 70 points out of
80.
The Visayas group got the points of 60 And the Luzon group with 55 points. Ma’am Lady
Sol congratulated the effort of everybody and recognized the serious performance of Mr. Con-
stantino Crabajales as he performed his role despite of the tumult of the audience.
March 10, 2016 drama presentation of BEED and BSED students held at College of Teacher
Education (CTE) function hall, which is their final project in World Literature.
There are two groups in each block of the drama presentation handled by Mrs. Elyssa Kay V.
Martinez and each block presented during their World Literature class. They showcase their origi-
nality and creativity in making and performing their sequel of the literary piece in a certain country
that they choose. All groups shows a unique and appreciative presentation but only one group had
show up which is the group 1 in Math and MAPEH major who presented their own sequel in one of
the literary pieces of the Philippines entitled “The Witch” where they got a perfect score 80, this
proves that students in the College of Teacher Education are versatile, very talented and now they
have this potential in creating their own story and present it with a creative and unique concepts.
This activity help students to boost their mind in imagination and develop their creativity as well
as their unity in performing or during the presentation.

with zumba and aerobic dance moves
at exactly 5:00 p.m. The CTE faculty to-
gether with their Zumba Instructor, Mr.
Juniffer Maragañas, sweat out the stress
as they do the activity. The activity hap-
pens at CTE building Room 201 and the
purpose of this activity is to maintain
good and healthy lifestyles and to be-
come fit and fab.

Regional Annual Administrative & Tactical Inspection (RAATI) held in Surigao del Sur
State University (SDSSU) - Main Campus on February 11, 2016 which started 8 in the morn-
ing, with chairman Col. Claro A. Lozada, OS GSP PA (RES) Bde Commander, Ready Re-
serve Brigade.
The inspecting team arrives at 8am in which they have a courtesy call to the school head
followed by commandant’s briefing and Admin Inspection. SDSSU singing ambassador led
the invocation after that Dr. Gerry Estrada gave his welcome remarks.
The event was participated by different State Colleges in CARAGA including the
CSU,SDSSU Cantilan Campus, Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT) and the
SDSSU Main Campus. Despite of the heavy rain still the ROTC cadets gave their best in the
tactical inspection.
Last POS Dr. Baceledes R. Estal said that he wants our school to be the champion but
then SDSSU Main Campus only got the 1st
place next to SSCT with the score of 97.27 con-
sidered as the highest score achieved in the history of RAATI in CARAGA .

FLAG RITES SEEMINGLY DONE

The first ceremony of flag raising for the month of February is successfully done last February 1, 2016 in
the front of CAS building at exactly 7:30 in the morning. The program was sponsored by the CTE third year
students with the guidance and presence of Mr. Mick Mars Pacheco Silvano, one of the faculty of the Col-
lege of Teacher Education. The said program was formally opened with an invocation followed by the na-
tional anthem leaded by Mr. Clinton D. Sequihod, a BSED-English third year student together with the CTE
elected students of the college of teacher education.
The Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas was led by Ms. Jherdyl Lorenzana, a BSED-English third year
student and it was followed by the Panunumpa sa Kawanai ng Gobyerno by Mrs. Merlyn Arevalo, one of
the faculty of the College of Teacher Education. Next is the singing of SDSSU hymn and Surigao del Sur
hymn by the selected CTE students. The last part of the program is the announcement and reminders for
the whole week that was announced by Dr. Gerry V. Estrada, the Vice President of Academic Affairs. After
the announcement, Mr. Kirby Galler , the man of the ceremony, end up the program. The flag rites was
done successfully and run smoothly.
A Chinese New Year Goes On Your Way

Chinese Filipinos also celebrate the Chinese New Year on February. It is an official holiday in the
Philippines, believing that it can give peace, prosperity and closer family ties. Most Filipino-Chinese
families usually clean their homes thoroughly, prepare lucky money in red envelopes, serve sweet
foods and display various food and fruits on a table, which is believed to invite good fortune. People
also participate in parades and dragon dances that are organized in China Towns in different cities in
the Philippines.
Red is considered the luckiest color in Chinese and everyone tries to dress in it and have red things all
around. Children expect to receive fresh peso bills inside bright red envelopes on which are written
Chinese characters and also the most appearing colors in the dragon were the red color that this drag-
on plays a very important role in the Chinese history and heritage because for them dragon is potent
and auspicious powers, helpful and kind. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck
for people who are worthy of it that Chinese people believe. Chinese dragon is the main symbol of Chi-
nese New Year. Other symbols include firecrackers that are believed to drive off bad luck and
the Tikoy, a Chinese sticky sweet treat that symbolizes the attraction of good luck. Everything mentions
were take part when Chinese New Year comes, not because it is one’s culture but also as part of their
respects and vow to the customs and tradition they’ll have.
