Leave Out ViolencE (aka LOVE), was created to attack the issue of violence from the inside out, and at a level where we are most vulnerable: with our youth, our kids, our children. LOVE is compassionate; designed for both victim and perpetrator. It has to be, for that is the cycle - and circle - of violence.
The program works peer-to-peer, kid-to-kid, perp-to-perp. It works on many levels: social, societal, educational (the program is built inside of NYC public schools). LOVE is a rare organization because LOVE is helping solve the violence issue – by teaching kids how to eliminate violence from their lives.
In the end, the answer is complex: Its cultural, behavioral, societal, social. Its not just guns, and its not just mental health. Its everything. But facts don't lie. Countries like Japan, Scotland or the greater UK have practically eliminated gun violence (in terms of both raw numbers and percentage). Part of their solution is strict gun control. And the results speak for themselves and those nations should be proud that so many lives have been saved. Facts don't lie. The US has more gun related deaths than the next 22 nations COMBINED. Guns are a huge part of this problem, but are clearly NOT the only part. Other than guns, what is so vastly different in the US versus every where else in the world (meaning ALL other civilized, first world, high income nations)? Are we really just the sickest nation? Have all these countries solved the mental heath issues? Do they regulate video games? Have they solved the poverty issue? Have they solved the broken family issue? Do they ban violent movies? Do they have extremely high rates of church attendance? The answer is no. They haven't and they don't.
It's time to Act: Sign a petition. Write a letter to your congressman. Donate to Leave Out Violence. Volunteer. Speak up. Speak out. Ask your principal what their plan is. Help. Seize this moment with your action. Do something. Together we can stand up to violence.

Bullying in Schools Paper
Bullying is mean spirited and unwanted intimidation by another student. Bullying can come in many different forms but the result is an imbalance of power where one student suffers physical and verbal attacks as well as social exclusion. The bully repeatedly focuses in on their victims and subjects them to continued harassment and false rumors. Bullying causes the victims extreme emotional damage and lifelong pain but occurs most commonly in the school setting. In order to ensure that bullying is prevented the educational system will need to become more proactive and create programs and services designed to educate, reduce, deter and punish bullying.
Types and Extent of Bullying
The three types of bullying experienced by the youthful victim in the school setting consist of verbal and physical assaults as well as social exclusions. The types of verbal threats the victims of bullying suffer are name calling, false gossip, lewd sexual comments, taunts, and threats to cause harm. Physical assaults include hitting, kicking, pushing, tripping, pinching, and spitting on the victim. Social exclusions includes the bully taking steps to isolate the victim from peers by leaving them out of social events or gatherings and talking rudely about them to other peers. Other students will fear the bully and go along with their mean spirited actions. The victim will be isolated and the bully will take steps to embarrass the student in front of other peers. The bully will spread malicious rumors and make rude comments to the victim.
Adolescents are extremely sensitive to rejection and the opinions of peers, both of which can serve as catalysts for revenge (Booth, 2011). The result is the bullying becomes escalated and the victim takes revenge on the bully or physical altercations occur. Bullying is a major problem in society. While bullying occurs most in the school setting there are other places where bullying occurs. Bullies target victims using social networks and will bully them at social events. Victims of bullies are harassed and attacked on school buses and on school playgrounds as well as in the victim’s neighborhood. While bullying can happen anywhere it is most prevalent in schools making it the responsibility of educational systems to take steps to see it stopped.
In 2001 in a report conducted by the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Statistics it was discovered that 20% of all students will be bullied while in high school while the number creeps up to almost 30% when dealing with school children from second to sixth grade (DeVoe, 2009). This comes to one in seven students from kindergarten to twelfth grade being victims of bullying. Over half of the students surveyed have been witness to bullying in the school setting and over 70% find bullying is a real issue in their school as well as the report found girls where far more ...

I think there is a way to eliminate or should I say diminish bullying and violence that stem from articles of clothing or apparel. This is the reason I propose for all children, grades K-12, to wear uniforms. There are plenty of reasons that this proposal should be considered.
Some children do not have parents that are financially wealthy, as a result of that; some parents cannot afford the really expensive clothing that the other children are wearing. With that being said, I have found a solution to these problems. Uniforms would at least stop the appearance motive for bullying, gang activity, and could potentially save the parents some extra cash. Bullying is only one dilemma as to why school uniforms should be mandatory in schools today.
In 2013, the average cost for back to school clothing (street clothes) was $688.62, this year it is expected to be around $634.78. Although street clothes seem to be on the decline, the costs compared to uniforms are significantly higher in price. The average cost for school uniforms should be around $249.00 in 2014, a huge savings in comparison. Uniforms could change all of this and I have come up with a plan to get the ball rolling. If all students wore neutral or natural colored uniforms (tan or black khakis, white or black collared shirts, and only white socks), no logos can be visible on any article of clothing, and all undergarments should be white or black this would cut down on a lot of the bullying, teasing, and gang activity. I understand that this policy isn’t going to take all the problems away, but it would cut some of the violence and non-sense down tremendously.
Suicide from bullying is the 3rd leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. Also, according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, 45% of high school students have gangs or gang members on their campuses. I would not want my child being wrongfully mistaken for a gang member. According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, 45% of high school students have gangs or gang members on their campuses. Students who join gangs may change their style of dress; adopt a nickname or abuse drugs and alcohol. “Gang-related apparel” is hazardous to the health and safety of the school environment. So adopting mandatory uniforms would eliminate gang-related apparel all together and there would be at least one less thing to worry about on that level.
Children have been seen getting picked on for not having the flashy and trendy name brand clothing; this has been proven that it could lead to suicide or suicide attempts. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. A st.

Effective teaching is more than a good lecture. In fact, it may be NO lecture at all. This presentation suggests dozens of effective structures. While many are not fully explained here, they are easily found in many locations on the internet and in the woks of Gardner, Tomlinson, Marzano, Sternberg, Costa, Solomon and others.
Howard Gardner's theory of the Multiple Intelligences continues to develop. Based on feedback from colleagues he went from the 7 Intelligences to the Multiple Intelligences by adding first the Naturalist and now the Existentialist. This presentation is just a quick overview.
The traditional reward-punishment model does little to promote achievement; however, concrete researched-based ways to motivate students do exist. Motivation as it applies to the learning process will be surveyed: basic human needs; the driving force behind all human behavior; inspiration and peak performance; energizing classroom strategies; and frameworks that encourage change and achievement.
A kinder gentler approach to classroom management, Cooperative Discipline is designed by Dr. Linda Albert, and based on the works of Dr. Alfred Adler and Dr. Rudolf Dreikurs.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

12. Bullying Myths
Bullying is an Isolated, Individual Aggressive Action-
Bullying is not an isolated aggressive action. In fact,
bullying/victimizing problems are influenced by peers,
families, schools, and communities.
Bullying Occurs Between a Bully and a Victim- Bullying is a
dynamic social relationship problem and many youth
move in and out of various roles.
Anti-Bullying Policies are Ineffective- If Anti-bullying policies
are not mandated many school districts do not willingly
develop and adopt Anti-Bullying policies which create
awareness and lay the foundation for lasting societal
changes.
It’s Impossible to Stop Bullying- When there is positive adult
leadership in schools, positive student leadership, and
healthy relationships there is less bullying.
13. Bullying Myths cont.
Bullying Prevention and Intervention are complicated and
Expensive- The development of healthy social relationships
is free. Strategies don’t have to be expensive and should
simply be based upon the golden rule.
Physical Bullying is More Damaging that Relational or
Verbal Bullying- Sticks and Stones Break my Bones but
Words will Never Hurt Me is UNTRUE. With cyber bulling on
the rise Verbal Bullying can go undetected, maybe for
years.
Figuring out How to evaluate Anti-Bullying Efforts is too
Complicated- Statistical Reviews can be preformed at any
level to determine the effect of any program. It is done
with student test scores on a regular basis in schools.
14. Other Bullying Myths
There is no bullying here
There are no gangs here
It’s a rite of passage
Bullies/gang members are tough
Bullies/gang members are popular
Small communities are immune
