Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. WHAT IS SO GOOD ABOUT
PRAYER?
Prayer Changes your circumstances
Prayer Mends Relationships
Prayer helps you physically. It can make a tangible difference in
your physical health
Prayer helps you emotionally. It can heal emotional wounds and
brokenness.
Prayer changes you.
3. WHAT IS SO GOOD ABOUT
PRAYER?
Prayer Mends Relationships
A healing salve that you can apply to the wounds of torn and
broken relationships
A pride buster to soften your heart and allow you to reach
out.
Something that pulls people together as they mutually submit
to a higher power. Not what I want or need but what God
wants and provides.
4. WHAT IS SO GOOD ABOUT
PRAYER?
Prayer helps you physically. It can make a tangible difference in
your physical health
Prayer helps you emotionally. It can heal emotional wounds and
brokenness.
Prayer changes you.
Sometimes it is not the circumstances that need changing, it is
you who needs changing
God is very interested in seeing you being transformed and
redeemed in you heart, that change is forever.
5. SHOW METHE DATA
Patients received angioplasty procedure who were prayed for
suffered much fewer complications (Nov 2001 American Heart
Journal)
Heart Patients who were prayed for had fewer problems and
shorter hospital stays. (May 1999 Internal Medicine)
400 heart attack patients (half prayed for) resulted in fewer
deaths, faster recovery and fewer complications. (July 1988

6. THE FIVE ATTITUDES OF PRAYER
Be Aware: Prayer is a keen awareness of whom you’re praying to.
Be Real: Pray with both an earnest and genuine heart. This applies
to both the words you use and what you are praying about.
Luke 18:10-14
Be Repentant: Sin is a serious obstacle to you prayers.Approach
prayer with a spirit of repentance and willingness to seek
forgiveness and abandon sin.
Be Dogged:The insistent prayer of a righteous person is
powerfully effective. James 5:16
8. THE SECRET INGREDIENTSTO
MAKEYOU PRAYERS AMAZING
Adoration to God
Confessing you sins
Thankfulness
Supplication
Remembering the request of others in your prayer
Asking God for your own requests
9. ADORATION
Adoration is giving God praise and honor for who he is and what
he does.
Everything we say in prayer should be said in Adoration but there
needs to be a specific time to worship and give Adoration to God
This one is the most unnatural parts of prayer because it is the
part of prayer where it is completely about him and not about
you.
If you give Adoration and praise then it requires effort because it
is the least intuitive part of prayer.
10. ADORATION: BE QUALITY
DRIVEN
One can only say holy and hallelujah so many times, Concentrate on the
following qualities of God
Creativity of the world as seen by diversity in nature and humanity
Holiness that makes him without blemish
Faithful, his selfless unending love for us
Boundless mercy and grace shown in Jesus dying
Perfect Justice
Power that can and will conquer all evil.
Sovereignty show he is in full control
Unchanging nature
Wisdom and perfect will so that all things work together
11. ADORATION
Psalms 8 is a vivid example of how we can adore God.
Other Psalms 8, 19, 46, 47, 66, 95, 96, 100, 148, 149, 150
Begin Where you are: C.S. Lewis use this advice from a friend to
begin his Adoration Journey. Instead of looking for perfect theological
words he used what he saw and experienced around him as a starting
point for Adoration. Look Around you and see God’s handiwork
Don’t Stretch it out.Worship as long as you’re praying from the heart.
Don’t descend into empty accolades to fill a quota
12. QUESTIONS
What experiences in life help you feel closer to God?
How would you use these experiences to improve how you Adore
God?
Have you used the Psalms to help lead you into Adoration for God?
What was that like? Why is this a good place to start?
What attitude about Prayer spoke to you? What were your thoughts?
Have you seen Prayer mend relationships? Heal People?
What are some of those most important moments in prayer that you
have experienced?
