3. The rooster outside seems to crow earlier and earlier
these days. You roll over as you try to remember the dream you
were having. It had been a good one - a king and queen in a giant
castle, you had defeated a dragon and were being hugged and
kissed as the hero.
“Too bad life is not like that.” You say as you sit up. A
small black cat jumps up on the bed next to you and looks at you
curiously. “I know, Shadows.” You say with a sigh, “Magnus,
would not approve of such thoughts.”
You scratch Shadows around the ears and smile. “Silly
cat.” you whisper. He closes his eyes, content to be close to the
one person who will show affection.
You stand, walk to your bedroom door and with a heavy
sigh you walk out.
4. Your morning routine consists mostly of house chores for
the wizard Magnus. Cleaning the entire two story mansion,
cooking meals, and least of all cleaning the wizards chamber pot.
Most of the time, if Magnus is out on a journey, you just throw
the stuff out the window. However, today he is not and the pot
requires a long march across the yard and to the cliffs.
As you pour the disgusting smell over the cliff’s edge you
peer out to the distant town below. “Good morning, Mistwell.”
You have never actually been to the town of Mistwell.
Magnus would never tolerate you leaving the mansion. But,
after 17 years of looking down at the quaint town, something
begins to stir inside. Maybe it was the thought of the lovely
dream from the night before, the smell of the chamber pot in
your hands or a combination of the two, but no more. You
decide then and there that Magnus is not longer going to be
your master…
5. After completing your morning chores you decide to
head out side for a breath of fresh air. As you move to open the
front door the all to familiar sound, a whoosh and a puff, causes
you to turn around.
There standing before you is Magnus. He is a tall man at
least a head or two taller then most. His busy eye brows seem to
grow larger each day. His great white beard hangs down to his
waist and has scorch marks through out from spells and
incantations. He scowls at you.
“I have decided to take a journey.” Magnus barks. It
seems more of a command rather then a statement.
“Yes, sir. Is there anything I can do while you are away?”
“You can clean my study.” and with another whoosh and
a puff Magnus vanishes.
“Finally, some peace and quite.” You say as you close the
door.
6. Learn some magic
Travel to Mistwell
Stay and do as you are told
The typical Magnus journey could take days if it is at all
like his typical ones. You wander the house, feeling the freedom
from your masters all watching gaze.
Sitting outside, looking down at the distant Mistwell, you
decide to do something with the time that has been given to
you.
7. As you sit, thinking about all the magic you have seen Magnus
perform you decide this might be the best way to either get
away from him or destroy him. You run to his study and begin
fiddling with the cabinet that contains Magnus's wand. He does
not need it to perform basic spells, only when he is doing
something really powerful.
The cabinet breaks open and you see the long wooden
wand protruding from its case. You reach in and grab hold of the
powerful stick. It feels good in your hands. You feel stronger,
braver, nothing like you have ever felt before. Thinking back to
earlier times when you were allowed to assist Magnus in his
work. You recall a few incantations that just might do the trick.
You decide that it would be best to practice a bit before
the wizard returns.
8. Waving the wand and speaking the charm you feel a
strange sensation. It is then you realize you have made a terrible
mistake. The room begins to grow larger. You can feel your body
shifting and changing. You can feel that you are no longer a
human. The legs that once held you up feel curled and
misshaped, and you seem heavy and slow.
Suddenly, the horrific sound of Shadow, bellows in your
ears. He is now a giant of a cat.
“Shadow!” you scream but no sound comes out.
He bends down and picks you up. The shaking and
jostling is almost enough to cause you to loose your breakfast. As
he pounces past the hall mirror you get a glance at yourself.
You begin to cry as you realize you turned yourself into a
small snail. You will either live like this forever or you might just
be on your way to lunch!
THE
END
9. As you sit, thinking about Mistwell you decide to take a
chance and go for a visit. It is a good half a day journey down
the mountain, so you prepare at once. You take a knife, a ration
of food and some expensive looking trinkets from Magnus’s
bedroom. Maybe you could use them to buy something in town.
The path down the mountain is a treacherous one. The
rocks are loose and slippery. Your feet slip and slide as you make
your why down the roughly laid path. Now would be a good time
to use some of Magnus’s powers to teleport down, rather then
walk. Alas, too late for that nonsense now.
Without to many scrapes and falls you make it to the
bottom of the cliff relieved to feel the lush grass under your feet.
“Going back up, might be the real problem.” you say to
yourself.
10. As you sit, thinking about all the chores you have to
complete, you decide to get to work rather than head out, or do
something foolish.
“The answer to my problem will present itself in time.”
You say to yourself as you stand up and walk towards the chicken
coop.
The chickens sense your presence…
