Systems Analyst Vs. A Business Analyst And A Software...
Many run into the problem of differentiating between a systems analyst and a business analyst
and a software developer. In fact, in a lot of places one person could do all of those jobs or one
could just not be present. These jobs in the workforce, while similar in many ways simply
because they re IT jobs, are vastly different things. Systems analyst are those who take a IT
system and study it trying to make sure everything is good. A business analyst while helping
with the system, forces on making sure that the business side of things are running properly and
always looking for a way to improve them. A software developer is there to develop the software
that keeps the business running as well as be what the other two analyst look to, to make the
system. Despite their differences, these three jobs are finely interwoven together, making them
all an important part of a company and to lose one would only set a company back. Most
notably, a systems analyst and a business analyst and a software developer differ in what their
duties are, and what these jobs roles focus on. The first difference between all threes is what their
duties are in a company; while all are vital to a company, each of has very different duties in
helping a company. A systems analyst is responsible for researching, planning, coordinating and
recommending software and system choices to meet the company s needs. This means knowing
what the company needs in terms of software, meeting those who will be using it

Eudora Welty s Mount Salus Without The Judge
Life without the Judge Often, protagonists have more in common with antagonists than
originally believed upon the introduction of a novel. Revealing a character in his entirety takes
time. Such is the way In Eudora Welty s The Optimist s Daughter. Welty portrays Fay and Laurel
very differently in their relationships with the Judge; however, upon further examination, Fay
and Laurel do have striking similarities regarding their out of place lives in Mount Salus
without the Judge. Laurel s relationship with the Judge proves to be quite different than that of
Fay. The Judge s first wife had Laurel, making Laurel the Judge s closest blood related relative.
Though she truly loves the Judge, Laurel does not get much of a chance to show it due to Fay s
overwhelming presence. Laurel also has more ties to sentimental objects in the house such as the
breadboard since those objects belonged to her mother. She eventually learns to feel sad for Fay,
who doesn t have any family in Mount Salus whose immaturity level is too great to know what to
do after the Judge s death. Laurel loves the Judge for himself, not for his wealth or status.... Show

The reasoning behind the marriage was different than that of his first marriage. Fay s young
character and beautiful appearance suggest the Judge married her for her looks, whereas she
married him for his status and wealth. Fay never truly loved the Judge, as evidenced by her
arguing to him in the hospital in New Orleans. The conflict directly leads to the death of the
Judge. After her husband s death, Fay is left out of place. Laurel does not accept her, nor does
Fay treat the Judge s family or possessions well. For example, Fay destroys the breadboard that
once belonged to Laurel s mother. From this, the reader can tell Fay has little moral bearing when it

Gender Roles Peter Pan
Gender Roles in Peter Pan J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan tells the story of the boy who never grew up.
Barrie paints Peter as an extraordinary character living in a mystical world called Neverland,
flying through the air, and fighting villainous pirates. He is also the boy who takes a young girl
named Wendy from England back to Neverlandwith him. The interaction and interdependence of
Barrie s two characters, Peter and Wendy, symbolize and spread cultural genderstereotypes by
mirroring the stereotypes embodied by the adult characters in the story Mr. and Mrs. Darling and
by reflecting the ideas of gender roles of the time and foreshadowing the children s understanding of
reality and expectations, as well as their eventual maturation.
Wendy s father, Mr. Darling, sets the prime example for adult male stereotype. Barrie
characterizes him as the breadwinner of the Darling family and a proud businessman. Throughout
Barrie s insight into his character, the reader observes him insist upon respect and obedience from
his children and wife; and even the family dog. In one instance, Mr. Darling even boasts to Wendy
that his wife, Mrs. Darling, not only loves him, but more importantly, respects him. This attitude as
displayed by the character of Mr. Darling as the most prominent adult male influence can be argued
to be associated with the male stereotype in many ways. Mr. Darling s character in the text supports
the culturally stereotypical view of the male gender as the

The Sport Of Powerlifting Is Serious
212 on deck! At this moment, I can hardly stand still while I wait for my turn to lift. I ve been up
since early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start.
There have been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The
sport of powerliftingis serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice,
increase your lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport,
like I did when I first began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet,
there is no going back. The sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class
is all that matters. Meanwhile, others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat
their current best. At this moment, all that matters to me is that I get all my lifts today.
Weeks later, everything about powerlifting meets seemed ordinary, I had begun to learn the ropes.
After weigh in, you could always find my team eating some sort of food involving peanut butter.
During this time, our coach took the opportunity to run through the basics with us. Which weight
classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the
starting weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking
back now, this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me,

have been used when the manta was smaller and would need to defend itself against predators.
As the mantas became larger in the open ocean, they no longer needed to defend themselves with
the sting. Today, mantas have a cartilage stump as a tail where the sting would be connected to.
Like all animals, mantas have several predators. Sharks, as well as false killer whales and orcas
have been known to eat manta rays. Shark bites are seen in all populations of manta rays, but these
bites are quite often taken from the edges of the manta s wings, which heal quickly and do not
leave the manta with long lasting wounds. In addition to predators, manta rays also face large
threats from humans. Fishing lines can trap manta rays, which leave the mantas

How Did Gordon Wood Characterize The American Revolution
1. Historians of the American Revolution have disagreed on whether to characterize the revolution
as radical or Conservative. Compare and contrast the arguments of Bernard Bailyn and Gordon
Wood and make and build an argument for which interpretation is most convincing.
Many historians throughout the history of our young nation have debated whether to characterize
the American Revolution as radical or conservative, and the argument still continues to this day.
Both arguments have points that are valid and convincing. The book the radicalism of the
American Revolution written by Gordon wood, and the book the ideological origins of the
American Revolution by Bernard bailyn are two examples of this argument. Gordon wood argues
that the American Revolution was much more than a fight for American independence, but rather
a radical sudden move that not only changed the political ideology of the colonies, but that also
had a great social impact on how people lived and thought of themselves as members of society
and where the entire way of life and society were changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Benefits Of International Student Recruitment
This is one major reason that many students choose to study in the US and participation in
multicultural groups may help students to make the needed connections to enjoy a successful stay
after graduation (Chue Nie, 2016).
In addition to fiscal benefits to international students, there are benefits to the university and
surrounding community that are gained from an improved relationship with the international student
population For instance, international students who remain after graduation become members of
the community and promote cultural awareness and competence (Bodycott Walker, 2000; Kumasi
Hill, 2011). Moreover, universities can benefit from greater retention and completion among
students. Other nations such as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Improved relationships between institutions and international students should be a major focal
point for researchers and administrators for the future.
The low response rate of this study and many others shows the necessity to determine what may be
preventing students and potential participants from answering surveys. Is this an issue of a lack of
English skills or are there other mechanisms at play that need to be considered? For instance,
differences in culture could preclude some people from participating and some may be reluctant to
participate due to unethical survey research they may have dealt with in the past. Learning
communities in US higher education are very diverse and each group, including international
students, deserves recognition and inclusion (Petrovich Lowe, 2005). However, it is problematic to
address issues when one cannot get enough participants to warrant attention from those in decision
making roles. Therefore, determining if there are differences in participation based on demographic
information as well as overall reluctance to participate should be explored to improve the quality
and quantity of data that is collected from international students. More research can also help to
determine which incentives are the most helpful when attempting to perform a

Reasons For The Study Of Spirituality From A Theological...
ntroduction The aim of this essay is to discuss Wolftiech s reasons for the study of spirituality
from a practical theological perspective. It will do this by outlining the reasons for study found in
Wolftiech s writings. Resultantly, it will discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and implications of
Wolftiech s reasons viewed from a Reformed theological frame of reference. Finally, a conclusion
will be offered suggesting a reforming approach to Practical theology.
Wolftiech s reasons Wolftiech considers practical theologians as having a rich understanding of the

Theologians such as have also offered definitions of theology which wholeheartedly embrace this
idea. John Frame has defined theology as: the application of the Word of Godby persons to all areas
of life 7 This idea of whole life application has an impact upon our thought/orthodoxy, our action
/orthopraxis and our affection/orthopathos.8,9 However, this definition, in contrast to Wolftiech,
gives primacy to the authority of Scripture. Within the reformed perspective, primacy is given to
scripture as the rule for faith and life .10Frost and Hirsch assert that orthodoxy right belief is an
indispensable element of any Christian discipleship. It is evident the church frequently sees
orthodoxy in the narrow sense, as a commitment to propositional truth, assuming that the
knowledge of God is only received cognitively, However, the cognitive knowledge of God needs
to be balanced by orthopraxy and orthopathy in order for the believer to come to a full orbed,
biblical engagement with (and knowledge of) God. 11 Conversely, Wolftiech at times places much
emphasis on pathos. When dealing with the question of pneumatology and religious experience,
appeal is made to questioning

Gender Labeling Research Paper
Throughout history, some babies have always been born with ambiguous genitalia, partially
formed sex organs, micro organs, or organs of both sexes. This was either due to deviations in
the anatomical development of the fetus and because of exposure during fetal gestation to
hormones and chemicals. To describe such people, sexologists have gradually begun to use the
more neutral term intersex children or children with developmental sex disorders. However,
various ethical issues come in light as these children grow into adults or when physicians assign a
gender to babies following the traditional view of gender labeling means a happy adjustment in
school, in the family, and in society. Intersex and transsexual labeling especially create problems in
sports where athletes must compete with as female or male. Transgender differs from intersex such
that transgender people feel they live in a body of the wrong gender hence seeking hormone
therapy while intersex have abnormal sex organs. Both kinds of people want the right to choose
their gender and may seek hormones and surgery to do so. One such example is an ophthalmologist
Richard Raskind who underwent surgery to become Rene Richards and competed on the
professional women s tennis circuit creating a huge controversy. Another example is of South

Bullying Is An Emotional And Physical Draining Issue
Bullying is an emotional and physical draining issue that is prominent throughout the world
today. School bullying has been identified as a major problem in many countries and almost
anyone you come across has a story they can tell about it. Bullying can create a hard lifestyle for
someone who is victimized, and can threaten a person s opportunities in life in the near future. The
social climate of a school is a replica of the world outside. All fifty states have passed school anti
bullyinglegislation, but each state addresses bullying differently. It is equally important that where
people develop a large portion of their mortality, their understanding how the world works and how
their sense of responsibility goes towards the society they live in.
The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look
on and do nothing. That quote stated by Albert Einstein is similar to the bullying cycle that was
created by an American nurse. There are five steps in the bullying cycle and each plays their
own specific role. The first in the bullying cycle is the bully. The bully is the main aggressor and
is typically influenced in looking for power or control over another human being. Also, the bully
is either looking for attention or possess a strong self esteem towards themselves or others. Next
in the bullying cycle is the passive defenders. Passive defenders are defenders who dislike the
bully or the actions taking place but will do nothing

Eyewitness Testimony And Its Effect On The Credibility Of...
Eyewitness testimony is a hot button issue in not only the criminal justice field but also the
psychology field as well. It continues to be argued that this type of evidence is far too unreliable
for the court room and can ultimately end up punishing the wrong person for a crime they did not
commit. The influence of an eyewitness testimonycannot be denied as research has showed that,
adding a single prosecution eyewitness to a murder trial summary increased the percentage of
mock jurors guilty verdicts from 18 to 72 (Leippe, Manion, Romanczyk, p. 182, 1992). In the
article discussed here, researchers will look into various age groups to see if age has an effect on
the credibility of eyewitness testimonies while attempting to discern what certain cues build upon
such credibility.
Despite such criticism the effect of an eyewitness testimony is still obviously powerful which
makes this issue that much more controversial. That vast increase previously mentioned was
based off of a simple statement rather than an actual witness being present, which shows that a
testimony does not need to be confirmed visually or audibly to be trusted. Although, the witness
involved in said mock trial was an adult, as adult memory is trusted to be more accurate than that
of a child s. Children have been said to be too suggestible and their memories too inferior to be
fully trusted (Leippe et al., p. 182, 1992). To test this out researchers in the article, Eyewitness

Atticus Qualities In To Kill A Mockingbird
In To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee, Atticus displays many admirable qualities. He is
a figure many look up to, and many respect. His emotions never get the better of him, and he is
always calm and collected. He is kind and pleasant to everyone, no matter how they treat him. He
loves his children a lot, and raises them to the best of his ability, even though people criticize him
for raising them the way he is. Because of all the reading Atticus does, he is very knowledgeable,
and although he is definitely one of the smartest people in the town, he never brags and always
stays humble. Atticus has numerous admirable qualities; he is loving, amiable, and humble. One of
Atticus s best characteristics was his humble nature. Although he was a very smart and skilled
person, he never bragged over anything. Atticus shooting Tim Johnson was one great example of
this. Atticus, using his amazing rifle skills shoots a sick dog, and impresses his children greatly.

of potentially dangerous men, and his children follow him there. Knowing that the situation could

example comes soon after when Atticus demonstrates the one way he shows physical affection for
his children. As they passed under a streetlight, Atticus reached out and massaged Jem s hair, his

Points to Consider When Giving a Speech Essay
Now that I have delivered my first speech, I feel fortunate to only be held accountable for what I
know. Yes, the introduction and conclusion of a speech are very important, however, the body of
the speech needs to be given adequate consideration during the preparation of a speech. Once the
introduction is completed
I believe the audience subconsciously demands that the body of the speech is well organized and
informative. This is important to ensure that the audience stays engaged in the presentation.
Although I believe I did a decent job in my introduction speech, I now know which areas I need to
work on in the body to make the presentation more complete. After reading Chapter 8 of The Art of

My first point was very short. It was so short that it probably should have been included in my
second point. I do feel, however, if I had been afforded more time to speak, I would have
balanced my points out more effectively. As I gain more experience in the public speaking arena, I
believe I will be able to condense the main points effectively in the time I am allotted.
We all want our listeners to stay interested in what we have to say; in formal public speaking, and
everyday conversation. It seems far easier to keep the audience interested in everyday conversation
because the setting is generally more informal. However, in a formal setting, connectives are vital
to keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. I now realize that simply pausing between main
points are not good connectives,in most cases. Pausing, in my opinion, gives the audience an
opportunity to mentally drift away from the speech, depending on the length of the pause. Pausing
may be acceptable if the speaker is using signposts, but when signposts are used, the audience is
made aware of what s coming after the pause, which makes them more likely to keep listening. In
my opinion, connectives are extremely important in certain situations where the audience is only
attending out of necessity such as in a business meeting. In these situations, many members of
audience aren t very interested to begin with. A speaker needs to use effective connectives or risk

from communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the
additional extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self
perception effect so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost
motivation to work. Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the
same amount from the bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom
workers lost motivation since supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in
many workers complaining due to an inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan
occurred when the company decided to lay people off. Employees ... Show more content on

This would secure the basic level on Maslow s hierarchy. Afterwards, managementcould make job
security conditional on each team s performance. Teams who fail to meet the requirements would
have one member laid off and teams who excel would acquire bonuses. As a result, keeping one s
job is an extrinsic motivator, teamwork is encouraged and the E P O link would be tightened.
However intrinsic motivation goes down and there is conflict between teams.
Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan.
Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great
extrinsic motivator for employees but this would lower the intrinsic value. Additionally, the free
rider problem and equity theory could be solved. However this plan does not reward teamwork and
this would cause conflict between

The Bangladesh Genocide
They were essentially waging a peaceful constitutional movement for democracy and autonomy
(p.251). As has been seen throughout the previous discussions on genocides in our history, once
again the discussion proclaims the emergence of one group demonstrating not only prejudice
feelings but the mindset of establishing a totalitarian society. This aspect also occurred during the
Bangladesh genocide that was unleashed by the Pakistani armed officials. The Bangladesh
genocide began on March 25th, 1971 and ended on December 16, 1971. It was during these long
nine months that the Pakistani armed forces, which, with the support of local militant groups,
conducted widely documented massacres, tortures, rapes, disappearances, destruction of property,...

that not only affected the Pakistani/Bangladesh society, but also the rest of the world (who were

Bangladesh society, politics, and culture. Prior to 1971, Bengalis were a relatively peaceful and
homogenous community with a low level of violent crimes (p.261). Before the war, the Bengalis
had been peaceful people who truly desired and believed that they deserved their autonomy from
Pakistan. However, because of their degree for independence, the Pakistan officials realized that
the only way to stop it from occurring was to set out this genocide. Effectively, the war made the
Bengalis realize that the violence caused their lives to be changed

The Public University Of Arkansas State University
he question of religious involvement in public education has been a controversial topic since before
America was a country. Thomas Paine, one of our founding fathers, expressed, As to religion, I hold
it to be the indispensable duty of the government to protect all conscientious protesters thereof, and
I know of no other business government has to do therewith, ( 20 Quotes ). While the separation of
church and statewas a necessity made clear by Thomas Jefferson in the first amendment of the
Constitution, the question differentiating freedom of religion and freedom from religion
remains intangible. The public university of Arkansas State confronted this debate in September
of 2014 after the death of two of its esteemed football team associates. In January of 2014, former
Arkansas State University football player Markel Owens was killed, and just six months later
former equipment manager Barry Weyer was also killed. Honoring their late friends, the entire
Arkansas State University (ASU) NCAA Division I football team willingly agreed to affix cross

The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay
The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and
will likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many
modern innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black
and white movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far filmhas come,
and looking back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer
exists. Thus my viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as
I have become more and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent
movies, but I most certainly remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch
on TV. In the 1980s, I always wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially
when I switched to another channel that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and
white TV show that I used to watch was The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed
watching this show for its funny slapstick action; however I did not enjoy watching it in black
and white, as my focus was primarily on the main characters and not the scenery or objects around
them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became a thing of the past because black and white
films became less accessible in either television or movies. Conversely, the advent of computer
generated imagery, known as CGI, has changed the

through all the different coaches and players, through the fights and tears, Michigan and Ohio

The Hebrew Exiles In Babylon Essay
The Hebrew Exiles in Babylon
When Jerusalem fell to the conquering Babylonians in 587 BC, most of what was important to the
Hebrew people was gone. They lost their holy city, the Temple was destroyed, and the Davidic
monarchy ended (Beasley 221). Following the destruction of Jerusalem, the Babylonian king,
Nebuchadrezzar, deported most of the population to other cities, including Babylon. These exiles
remained there for about fifty years until the Persian forces, under king Cyrus, took the city of
Babylon in 539 BC. The Persian policies concerning captured and exiled peoples were quite
different than those of the Babylonians, and because of this King Cyrus allowed the exiles to

Nebuchadrezzar, who had only recently become ruler of the Babylonian Empire in 604 BC,
decided that this new Babylon should surpass anything in the fallen Assyrian Empire. Many of the
exiles who were brought to Babylon were craftsmen and artisans (2 Kings 24:14,16), and so could
be profitably employed in the rebuilding and improvement of the capital city. These workmen
helped to make Babylon the most elegant of its day, and its beautiful gardens and architecture
surpassed anything previously from Assyria (Whitely 71 72). It must have been a source of great
satisfaction to some of the Hebrew exiles to know that they were an important part in the
reconstruction of Babylon.
In addition to the more rural occupations, there is also sufficient evidence written in discovered
archives of the time that the Hebrew exiles were involved in the mercantile life in Babylon. Since
many of the great highways of the time converged on Babylon, thus forming it into the center of
commerce in the Near East, it is not surprising to find that some of the exiles became active in
trading and loaning in this land of traffic (Whitley 73). The Murashu tablets are a significant
testimony to the commercial activities of the Hebrews in Babylon. These personal business records

Plutarch And Plato
Plutarch in our textbook tried to define the teaching of Plato as how to love liberty and living it by
focusing on virtue, justice and morality. So, the write could explain Plato s teaching by his students
Dion and Brutus, that they were noble men who had risen from an inconsiderable background.
They were both pupils of Platowhose lives were set parallel by his teachings. Dion should have
ended up in sadness and miserable life. They fought together great struggles and overcame many
odds to rise in power and dominance. However, both Dion and Brutus s lives were cut way before
they could realize their dreams and potential. They had been warned of their impending fall by
specters but became delusional.
Dion was the brother the brother law of Dionysius. Dionysius on assuming power married two
wives and established himself as a tyrant in Syracuse. Dion s character and natural gifts made
Dionysius connect him with Plato who had visited Sicily. Dion was quick to learn and expressed
exemplary virtue from the innocence of his youth. When Plato visited Sicily, they mainly talk about
morality. Plato proved that the lives of just men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Susan Wolf s Article Moral Saints And John Stuart...
Both Susan Wolf s article Moral Saints and John Stuart Mill s book Utilitarianism will be
discussed here. These works offer expositions of and opinions on the philosophical issue of the
moral worth of adhering to a certain set of values, and how a person s motivations for doing so
can change their worth and the desirability of their way of life. Wolf offers the position that
leading an extremely morally good life is undesirable, while Mill s opposing position is that if
moralityleads to happiness, then that behavior is preferable. To determine which of these stances
on the value of morality has the most pertinence, these two arguments will be outlined and
consequently analyzed. Their differences and similarities will be enumerated and described, and
consequently their merit will be discussed. Finally, Wolf s moral theory will be proven to be
inferior to Mills s, due to its prejudice, lack of supportive evidence, and its inability to be
universally applicable.
In Moral Saints , Susan Wolf defines a moral saintas an individual who is as morally good as it is
possible to be. Wolf suggests that there are two types of moral saints, utilitarian and Kantian (Wolf
420). A utilitarian saint is a Loving Saint , one who simply finds their own happiness in the
happiness of others and performs moral actions for their own sake (Wolf 420). A Kantian saint is a
Rational Saint , who is inherently different from a utilitarian/loving saint in the sense that they do

Analysis Of Functions Of Effective Management Essay
Introduction
Normally, management is generally known as that social process which entails the fulfillment of
the given set objectives of a particular organization through effective and economical regulation and
operation of the organization. The system is a dynamic process since it consists of handling of
different activities and elements each time. However, these elements and activities are not like the
operative functions which merely involve finance, purchasing, marketing and many more of similar
type. Moreover, the activities are commonly practiced by every manger regardless of the status or
the level within the chain of command. Besides, effective management always goes in hand with
leadership and includes employees motivation, creatively solving of problems and ensuring timely
completion of the organization s goals and objectives. Therefore, this paper has critically focused on
how the five management practices such as planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling
are implemented in my current workplace.
Analysis of the functions of effective management

The Form Of Equality In The Phaedo By Socrates
In The Phaedo, one of Socrates aims is to convince us that our souls existed prior to our birth. In
making this argument, he claims that we had some knowledge of imperceptible things prior to our
birth, and that through recollection of our pre birth knowledge of imperceptible things, we are able
to perceive certain qualities of things like equalitybeginning after our birth. Socrates argument
begins by defining recollection as when someone perceives one thing, knows that thing, and also
thinks of another thing of which the knowledge is not the same but different (73c). Socrates asks
that we consider our perceptionof equal things, such as sticks and sticks or stones and stones. He
claims there is Equal itself or the Form of Equality, which is unmistakably equal at all times (74a).
Once the Form of Equality, is agreed upon, Socrates claims that as long as the sight of one thing
makes you think of another, whether it be similar or dissimilar, you are recollecting (74d). Socrates
then concludes that because we are able to make judgments about equal things through perception,
we must have knowledge of the Form of Equality prior to making these judgments about equal and
unequal things, and we are able to recognize these things as equal or unequal by recalling the form
of equality. Socrates argument begins with the idea that our souls were acquainted with all forms
prior to our births, and he outlines an argument that illustrates his Theory of Recollection,

In the book, Sociology on the Menu: An Invitation to the Study of Food and Society, Alan
Beardsworth and Teresa Keil explain that, For a start, traditional food systems are characterized
by patterns of local, relatively small scale production. They also go onto say that the modern
food system is made up of five parts which differentiate them from the traditional food society.
Firstly, there is a highly specialized, industrial system of food production. (Sociology on the

concealed. Secondly, distribution is through the commercial market; whatever our status, as long
as we have the money, food is readily accessible. (Sociology on the Menu) A long as one has the
means, going to the grocery store will never be a problem, especially living in the United States.
Thirdly...visit to any supermarket demonstrates the opportunities for consumption and emphasizes
choice and variety, and this is largely true for smaller food outlets as well. (Sociology on the

shortages are rare. However, that is not to say that shortages do not occur in particular places for
particular groups, only that these arise from social and political constraints rather than from the

Who Is Cool Hand Luke As A Christ Figure
Luke as a Christ Figure In literature, it s not uncommon for authors to create a character who
parallels Christ himself. In Cool Hand Luke, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, starring Paul Newman,

The Question Of Why The Term Son Of Man Was Used By Jesus
For the believer, the question of why the term Son of Man was used by Jesus to represent himself
at face value remains curious. Particularly intriguing is Jesus use of this identification Son of Man
since God s attributes are not fully comprehended in scope or nature in their entirety, save what has

There is some dispute over the nature of Jesus mission with how (Van Aarde, 2005) future events
would be shaped by Christ.
Scholars have divided themselves into three camps. Some say Jesus was a wisdom teacher and,
according to these scholars understanding 5, it seems that wisdom excludes an apocalyptic mind set.
Others disagree 6. But there is also a third option 7. According to these scholars, both presence
(immanence) and future (eschatology) exist within the spectrum of Jesus vision. This complexity is
interwoven with the problem pertaining to the continuity and/or discontinuity of the son of man
sayings by Jesus and those by the Jesus groups after his death.
I believe that the Daniel 7 linkage to Jesus use of Son of Man will justify an apocalyptic inclusion,

The case of whether or not Hebrew or Aramaic was used by Jesus in the utterance of Son of Man
is difficult to ascertain, since Hebrew was used simultaneously in worship while Aramaic was used
in other daily living areas. Aramaic is considered to be the common language evidenced by the
findings of documents or fragments which proved to be items of textual contracts plus other written
documents of everyday life.
All of these findings have been found to be written in Aramaic. Bar enasha is further qualified by

Hawthorne Romanticism
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on the 4th of July, 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts to Nathaniel and
Elizabeth Clark Hathorne (Manning). He was an American writer who specialized in writing
short stories and romance novels. Among his many works are, The Scarlet Letter, The House of
Seven Gables, and Young Goodman Brown. Just like the works of Herman Melville and Edgar
Allan Poe, much of Hawthorne s works laid emphasis on the imperfect nature of human beings.
The imperfect nature of humans, he believed, was responsible for the tendency for men and
women of good hearts to commit sin and fall into despicable situations. Hawthorne s works can be
classified as a sub genre of Dark Romanticism, which highlights the unintended consequences and
complications that arise from well meaning efforts of people at making the society a better place to

Before Hawthorne, literature was considered a major tool used to elevate the human spirit.
However, according to Henry James (an American writer who moved to England and became a
British subject), what most appealed to Hawthorne s imagination was the old secret of mankind
in general... the secret that we are really not by any means so good as a well regulated society
requires us to appear. According to of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, civilization requires
people to suppress and deny their aggressive and sexual impulses, which leads to inner conflict,
guilt, and in some individuals to neurosis and psychosis. This is the area of human
consciousness that Hawthorne explored even before Freud was even born. Hawthorne
approached this topic in a guarded way, which is the reason why his works are so full of allegory
and symbolism. However, some of his predecessors like Stephen King had no such reservations in
his style of

The Role Of Discrimination In Canadian Law
Over the years there has always been deferential standards dividing men and women in the eyes of
the law, and stunting the ability to gain prestige titleship within major careers. The term feminist
Jurisprudence is the philosophy of law based on the political and ethical dividend of social equality
between sexes. Equally the term systematic discriminationbecomes a large factor in the
determination of power between sexes as they seek out prestigious titles in their careers. The
action of discrimination is illegal under section 15 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. This
section is a guarantee for all Canadian citizens to have equal rights. The purpose of this section is

Disneyland produced a wonderful series of movie named Pirates of the Caribbean. It was so
popular that was nominated and won several movie awards such Academy Awards, Golden
Globe Awards, and MTV Movie Awards. There is a series of movie and On Stranger Tides is the
movie that has the lowest CinemaScore. It was directed by Rob Marshall and screenplay by Ted
Elliott and Terry Rossio on 2011. The main characters in this movie are Johnny Depp as Captain
Jack Sparrow, PenГ©lope Cruz as Angelica, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa, and Ian
McShane as Blackbeard. Many critics consider this installment as the worst film of Pirates of the
Caribbeanbecause it was nonsense, overstuffed, and no certain protagonist. Nevertheless,
everything in the On Stranger Tides has meaning and Jack Sparrow still lead the whole plot.
Critics of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides are mostly disliking the movie. Dana
Stevens think that it is a bad movie because it is overlong, overstuffed, and extremely loud. (Dana)
One critic by Mick LaSalle says that Captain Jack is not even the center of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The main character is the women and the other captain. It is nonsense that Captain Jack try to
figure our the elusive fountain of youth. Moreover, Captain Jack is going around killing people
without need or purpose. Mick thinks that the movie is nothing and the conversations are invariable

The Mystery Of Vampires From Folklore Tales
Ideas, beliefs, and theories of monsters have been a part of culture since the dawn of mankind. Over
time, these gothic entities transformed into specific characters with names, features, and
appearances. One particular monster that sustained themselves over time have been vampires. In
fact, stories of vampires have been with civilization for centuries.
The exact origin of vampires is unknown and there have been many speculations and theories of
these monsters origins. Many scholars believe that vampires originated from folklore tales, which
spread all throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, England, and Ireland. In addition, early civilizations
associated vampires with unexplained events such as death, disease, and misfortune.
Scholars would theorize vampires were ways ancient people would associate with uncanny events
that could not be explained due to their lack of education, primitive medicine and crude technology.
According to Theodora Goss, the vampire functioned as [a] scapegoat ... [allowing] the villagers to
confront their fears (Theodora Goss). Due to this lack of education of death and disease, folklore
stories would substitute modern science. Scientific American would state, ... [Vampires] tell an
important story about how people understood natural events such as death, decomposition, and the
transmission of disease prior to the advent of scientific medicine (Scientific American). Due to this
style of conversational exchange, stories of vampires would

Reflective Essay About My Mandala
During the past few weeks in Global Perspectives we explored our personal culture, and the
influences that shape it. Our task was to create a mandala: a circular set of symbols that convey
the contrast between the sun and shadow sides of our personality. While the sun side is the
disposition other people see, the shadow side captures unseen aspects of our personality. In this
reflection, I further examine how I embody the characteristic behind each symbol and how I
came to possess this characteristic. First, on the sun side (right), the uppermost symbol is a
firecracker, which represents my exuberance. Firecrackers are loud, colorful, and unpredictable.
Being the youngest of my friends and family, I have always been loud craving attention and
achieved it through antics, similar to a firecracker exploding. However, as exciting as some
consider firecrackers, to some they are scary. My loud personality and my never ending energy
sometimes send the wrong impression, and I come off as a little hard to handle. Though my
family was part of the reason I wanted get attention, but I was the one would would rather be
noticed all the time, than blend in to the background, this is why I classify this as something I
developed by my free will. This is the one trait that many people first notice about me, which is

Harriet Jacobs Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
The impact of Gender in the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
The autobiography , Incidents in the Life of a Slave girl, was written by Harriet Ann Jacobs
under the pseudonym name Linda Brendt. This book details the life of slavery and how Jacobs
achieved freedom for her children and for herself. Jacobs detailed these painful, and intricate
accounts through forty one chapters. Harriet Jacobs unfortunate experiences as a slave were
significantly shaped because of her gender. Jacobs did indeed endure struggles through her race,
but her gender is of great significance during her time as a slave. Jacobs used herself as an
example to show how enslaved women were manipulated by their masters, the difficulties of being a
mother during slavery mother, and how the fight for freedom were all impacted by her gender.
Once Jacobs original mistress passed away, she was sold to a manipulative and lustful master.
Forty years her senior, Dr. Flint, began to manipulate her at the age of fifteen But I now entered
on my fifteenth year a sad epoch in the life of a slave girl. My master began to whisper foul
words in my ear (chapter V). The manipulation not only troubled her, but her mistress became
jealous and full of hatred over fourteen year old Jacobs. This caused tension between the
mistress, Dr. Flint and Jacobs. Jacobs directed to the audience that beauty is an asset to those
who are not slaves, but an immense disadvantage to slaves. Jacobs understood that she is able to
induce the jealousy and anger of Mrs. Flint, She will be compelled to realize that she is no longer
a child. If God has bestowed beauty upon her, it will prove her greatest curse. That which
commands admiration in the white woman only hastens the degradation of the female slave
(chapter V). Although, Mrs. Flint was aware of the manipulation, Mrs.Flint could not control her
husband s behavior towards Jacobs. Thus, leading Mrs. Flint to take her jealousy and rage onto
Jacobs. Even though Mrs.Flint understood that Jacobs was not in control of the situation, Mr. Flint
was. I was an object of her jealousy, and, consequently, of her hatred; and I knew I could not expect
kindness or confidence from her under the circumstances in which I

An Analysis of William Blake s Poem London Essay
In London , William Blake brings to light a city overrun by poverty and hardship. Blake discards
the common, glorifying view of London and replaces it with his idea of truth. London is nothing
more but a city strapped by harsh economic times where Royalty and other venues of power have
allowed morality and goodness to deteriorate so that suffering and poverty are all that exist. It is
with the use of three distinct metaphors; mind forg d manacles , blackning Church , and Marriage
hearse , that Blake conveys the idea of a city that suffers from physical and psychological
imprisonment, social oppression, and an unraveling moral society. According to William Richey the
phrase mind forg d manacles has two contributors, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of the word blood to describe the state of walls can convey that the city is also filthy
with the greed of upper class citizens such as Royalty (Line 12). Also, that the city could be full
of the remembrance of the deaths of soldiers who have died for the purposes of carrying out
Royalty orders. Therefore, because the surroundings are so confined and unclean, it reflects and
reinforces the distress of ordinary citizens (Richey 2) Disease is another factor that contributes
to the distress of citizens. And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse (Line 16). The presence
of an oxymoronic phrase places an emphasis on the current state of London s marriage practices.
Marriage no longer represents rebirth and purity but is looked upon as costly and unclean. Men
and women become careless with their sexual activities and help spread sexually transmitted
diseases affecting not only themselves but others and future generations (Richey 1). It is the
presence of sexual promiscuity and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases that lead to the
death of marriage. The Church creates woe for citizens by acknowledging and advertising that
earthly suffering is permissible because heaven grants rewards to faithful followers who do not
complain (2). Since the Church bears so much influence and power, citizens feel they have no
other choice but to follow the advice given to them. Many are probably so miserable that their only

Social workers hold themselves to high standards because they have a lot of responsibilities
toward their clients and the agency they work for. A social worker must be aware of services that
their agency provides and what they do not. They then must be aware of other agencies or
programs they can connect their clients to if they need extra services. Finally a social worker must
know their client to be able to help them to their fullest extent.

Teaching At A Community Special School Essay
Teaching in the hospital provides learning at a community special school or a foundation school
located within a hospital under special arrangement by section nineteen of the education act (DFE,
2015). The aim of hospital teaching is to provide education to those pupils who are deemed by
medical practitioners to require this type of teaching due to health needs. (DFE, 2013)
Teaching in the hospital school contains many members of staff including trained teachers, Higher
Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) and Learning mentors all working together in the learning zone.
If a child is well enough to attend the learning zone they can for a group session within the
afternoon. If a child is isolated the child will receive appropriate education at their bedside.
Children who spend longer than five days within hospital will receive education on day five of
their stay, if a child is a recurrent patient they will receive education on day one (East SILC,
2016). The hospital school works with the child s primary school once a referral is completed.
Teachers and other members of staff work with the information given to them and focus on aspects
of the national curriculum and most importantly what work the child would be completing if they
were able to attend school.
Aims
The aims of this reflective report are to demonstrate the difference in teaching and learning for
pupils within this setting. Also understand the impact one to one support has on a child. Finally to

Mother Savage
A critical issue in Guy de Maupassant s Mother Savage is the gender role of the character
Mother Savage. She is shown to be different from the females who live in the nearby village. The
women in the village are all reliant on others and view Mother Savage as just that, a savage.
Mother Savage is different because she is vengeful and able to plan the death of the soldiers
housed with her. She also lives by herself outside of the village which is odd for women during
the time period. Mother Savage is also shown to be able to survive without the help of the others
in the village. Additionally, she is revealed to have money of her own. Mother Savage is a

During her time period, women were not expected to have their own money instead their
husbands made the money needed for the household. In her introduction de Maupassant says
people did not pity the old woman very much because she had money. This shows that the people
in the village do not see her as similar to them. Since they do not think of her as one of them she
has been given the power to act outside of their expectations and cultural norms. This is also
why she was given the number of soldiers she was given, four were allotted to the old woman,
who was known to be rich. Her having four soldiers made it more significant when she killed
them. If she was not given four soldiers to house by the Prussians they may not have reacted as
they did. Since she had the money to house more soldiers and was empowered by being considered
different from the villagers she was able to make a larger

American Dream Equality
The outcome of the American Dream had first come well known when James Truslow Adams
stated, life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according
to ability or achievement (McQuade), without the weight of a different social class or the
circumstances of birth resulting in a part of the decision. His meaning was based around the
thoughts on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness that was first seen in the Declaration of
Independence; which proclaims, all mean are created equal (McQuade). Today s society looks at
the American Dreamin different lights, to some it may be becoming very wealthy and to others

The influence of Dreams, Visions and Hallucinations in Macbeth and other Literary Texts
The realities of the world affected me as visions, and as visions only, while the wild ideas of the

existence utterly and solely in itself. Edgar Allan Poe Uncanny encounters with visions and

Anderson describes choleric individuals as easily provoked, given to treachery, vehement in action;
fierce in assailing but inconstant in sustaining assault; inclined to envy, pride, prodigality, and
wrath. In Act 1, Scene 5, Lady Macbeth is faced simultaneously with two revelations a letter
from Macbeth disclosing the witches prophecy of kingship and the news of King Duncan s
arrival conveyed by a messenger following which she delivers her famous soliloquy where she
calls upon the familiar spirits to change her temperament to choleric. Choler could be intrinsic, or
the effects of astrology, diet or even time of the day. With her desires that no compunctious
visitings of nature thwart her purpose, she unwittingly implies the cessation of her periodic
menstrual flow and the murth ring ministers are called upon to replace the nutritive fluid in her
breasts with gall or choler. According to Malleus Maleficarum, the Devil s power is greatest where
human sexuality is concerned and all witchcraft comes from carnal lust, which is in women
insatiable , hence, the Weird Sisters who have been unsexed themselves and are known to sport
beards defeminises Lady Macbeth, turning her thus, into the fourth witch. Since, she feels that her

  • 2. Systems Analyst Vs. A Business Analyst And A Software... Many run into the problem of differentiating between a systems analyst and a business analyst and a software developer. In fact, in a lot of places one person could do all of those jobs or one could just not be present. These jobs in the workforce, while similar in many ways simply because they re IT jobs, are vastly different things. Systems analyst are those who take a IT system and study it trying to make sure everything is good. A business analyst while helping with the system, forces on making sure that the business side of things are running properly and always looking for a way to improve them. A software developer is there to develop the software that keeps the business running as well as be what the other two analyst look to, to make the system. Despite their differences, these three jobs are finely interwoven together, making them all an important part of a company and to lose one would only set a company back. Most notably, a systems analyst and a business analyst and a software developer differ in what their duties are, and what these jobs roles focus on. The first difference between all threes is what their duties are in a company; while all are vital to a company, each of has very different duties in helping a company. A systems analyst is responsible for researching, planning, coordinating and recommending software and system choices to meet the company s needs. This means knowing what the company needs in terms of software, meeting those who will be using it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Eudora Welty s Mount Salus Without The Judge Life without the Judge Often, protagonists have more in common with antagonists than originally believed upon the introduction of a novel. Revealing a character in his entirety takes time. Such is the way In Eudora Welty s The Optimist s Daughter. Welty portrays Fay and Laurel very differently in their relationships with the Judge; however, upon further examination, Fay and Laurel do have striking similarities regarding their out of place lives in Mount Salus without the Judge. Laurel s relationship with the Judge proves to be quite different than that of Fay. The Judge s first wife had Laurel, making Laurel the Judge s closest blood related relative. Though she truly loves the Judge, Laurel does not get much of a chance to show it due to Fay s overwhelming presence. Laurel also has more ties to sentimental objects in the house such as the breadboard since those objects belonged to her mother. She eventually learns to feel sad for Fay, who doesn t have any family in Mount Salus whose immaturity level is too great to know what to do after the Judge s death. Laurel loves the Judge for himself, not for his wealth or status.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reasoning behind the marriage was different than that of his first marriage. Fay s young character and beautiful appearance suggest the Judge married her for her looks, whereas she married him for his status and wealth. Fay never truly loved the Judge, as evidenced by her arguing to him in the hospital in New Orleans. The conflict directly leads to the death of the Judge. After her husband s death, Fay is left out of place. Laurel does not accept her, nor does Fay treat the Judge s family or possessions well. For example, Fay destroys the breadboard that once belonged to Laurel s mother. From this, the reader can tell Fay has little moral bearing when it comes to dealing with other ... • 6. Gender Roles Peter Pan Gender Roles in Peter Pan J. M. Barrie s Peter Pan tells the story of the boy who never grew up. Barrie paints Peter as an extraordinary character living in a mystical world called Neverland, flying through the air, and fighting villainous pirates. He is also the boy who takes a young girl named Wendy from England back to Neverlandwith him. The interaction and interdependence of Barrie s two characters, Peter and Wendy, symbolize and spread cultural genderstereotypes by mirroring the stereotypes embodied by the adult characters in the story Mr. and Mrs. Darling and by reflecting the ideas of gender roles of the time and foreshadowing the children s understanding of reality and expectations, as well as their eventual maturation. Wendy s father, Mr. Darling, sets the prime example for adult male stereotype. Barrie characterizes him as the breadwinner of the Darling family and a proud businessman. Throughout Barrie s insight into his character, the reader observes him insist upon respect and obedience from his children and wife; and even the family dog. In one instance, Mr. Darling even boasts to Wendy that his wife, Mrs. Darling, not only loves him, but more importantly, respects him. This attitude as displayed by the character of Mr. Darling as the most prominent adult male influence can be argued to be associated with the male stereotype in many ways. Mr. Darling s character in the text supports the culturally stereotypical view of the male gender as the Block 2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Sport Of Powerlifting Is Serious 212 on deck! At this moment, I can hardly stand still while I wait for my turn to lift. I ve been up since early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start. There have been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The sport of powerliftingis serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice, increase your lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport, like I did when I first began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet, there is no going back. The sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class is all that matters. Meanwhile, others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat their current best. Which weight classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the starting weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking back now, this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me, this goal setting was incredibly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like all animals, mantas have several predators. Sharks, as well as false killer whales and orcas have been known to eat manta rays. Shark bites are seen in all populations of manta rays, but these bites are quite often taken from the edges of the manta s wings, which heal quickly and do not leave the manta with long lasting wounds. • 9. How Did Gordon Wood Characterize The American Revolution 1. Historians of the American Revolution have disagreed on whether to characterize the revolution as radical or Conservative. Compare and contrast the arguments of Bernard Bailyn and Gordon Wood and make and build an argument for which interpretation is most convincing. Many historians throughout the history of our young nation have debated whether to characterize the American Revolution as radical or conservative, and the argument still continues to this day. Both arguments have points that are valid and convincing. The book the radicalism of the American Revolution written by Gordon wood, and the book the ideological origins of the American Revolution by Bernard bailyn are two examples of this argument. Gordon wood argues that the American Revolution was much more than a fight for American independence, but rather a radical sudden move that not only changed the political ideology of the colonies, but that also had a great social impact on how people lived and thought of themselves as members of society and where the entire way of life and society were changed ... In addition to fiscal benefits to international students, there are benefits to the university and surrounding community that are gained from an improved relationship with the international student population For instance, international students who remain after graduation become members of the community and promote cultural awareness and competence (Bodycott Walker, 2000; Kumasi Hill, 2011). Improved relationships between institutions and international students should be a major focal point for researchers and administrators for the future. The low response rate of this study and many others shows the necessity to determine what may be preventing students and potential participants from answering surveys. Is this an issue of a lack of English skills or are there other mechanisms at play that need to be considered? For instance, differences in culture could preclude some people from participating and some may be reluctant to participate due to unethical survey research they may have dealt with in the past. Learning communities in US higher education are very diverse and each group, including international students, deserves recognition and inclusion (Petrovich Lowe, 2005). However, it is problematic to address issues when one cannot get enough participants to warrant attention from those in decision making roles. Therefore, determining if there are differences in participation based on demographic information as well as overall reluctance to participate should be explored to improve the quality and quantity of data that is collected from international students. It is evident the church frequently sees orthodoxy in the narrow sense, as a commitment to propositional truth, assuming that the knowledge of God is only received cognitively, However, the cognitive knowledge of God needs to be balanced by orthopraxy and orthopathy in order for the believer to come to a full orbed, biblical engagement with (and knowledge of) God. 11 Conversely, Wolftiech at times places much emphasis on pathos. • 14. Gender Labeling Research Paper Throughout history, some babies have always been born with ambiguous genitalia, partially formed sex organs, micro organs, or organs of both sexes. This was either due to deviations in the anatomical development of the fetus and because of exposure during fetal gestation to hormones and chemicals. To describe such people, sexologists have gradually begun to use the more neutral term intersex children or children with developmental sex disorders. However, various ethical issues come in light as these children grow into adults or when physicians assign a gender to babies following the traditional view of gender labeling means a happy adjustment in school, in the family, and in society. Intersex and transsexual labeling especially create problems in sports where athletes must compete with as female or male. Transgender differs from intersex such that transgender people feel they live in a body of the wrong gender hence seeking hormone therapy while intersex have abnormal sex organs. Both kinds of people want the right to choose their gender and may seek hormones and surgery to do so. School bullying has been identified as a major problem in many countries and almost anyone you come across has a story they can tell about it. Bullying can create a hard lifestyle for someone who is victimized, and can threaten a person s opportunities in life in the near future. The social climate of a school is a replica of the world outside. All fifty states have passed school anti bullyinglegislation, but each state addresses bullying differently. It is equally important that where people develop a large portion of their mortality, their understanding how the world works and how their sense of responsibility goes towards the society they live in. The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. That quote stated by Albert Einstein is similar to the bullying cycle that was created by an American nurse. There are five steps in the bullying cycle and each plays their own specific role. The first in the bullying cycle is the bully. The bully is the main aggressor and is typically influenced in looking for power or control over another human being. • 17. Eyewitness Testimony And Its Effect On The Credibility Of... Eyewitness testimony is a hot button issue in not only the criminal justice field but also the psychology field as well. It continues to be argued that this type of evidence is far too unreliable for the court room and can ultimately end up punishing the wrong person for a crime they did not commit. The influence of an eyewitness testimonycannot be denied as research has showed that, adding a single prosecution eyewitness to a murder trial summary increased the percentage of mock jurors guilty verdicts from 18 to 72 (Leippe, Manion, Romanczyk, p. 182, 1992). In the article discussed here, researchers will look into various age groups to see if age has an effect on the credibility of eyewitness testimonies while attempting to discern what certain cues build upon such credibility. Despite such criticism the effect of an eyewitness testimony is still obviously powerful which makes this issue that much more controversial. That vast increase previously mentioned was based off of a simple statement rather than an actual witness being present, which shows that a testimony does not need to be confirmed visually or audibly to be trusted. Although, the witness involved in said mock trial was an adult, as adult memory is trusted to be more accurate than that of a child s. Children have been said to be too suggestible and their memories too inferior to be fully trusted (Leippe et al., p. 182, 1992). Yes, the introduction and conclusion of a speech are very important, however, the body of the speech needs to be given adequate consideration during the preparation of a speech. Once the introduction is completed I believe the audience subconsciously demands that the body of the speech is well organized and informative. This is important to ensure that the audience stays engaged in the presentation. We all want our listeners to stay interested in what we have to say; in formal public speaking, and everyday conversation. It seems far easier to keep the audience interested in everyday conversation because the setting is generally more informal. However, in a formal setting, connectives are vital to keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. I now realize that simply pausing between main points are not good connectives,in most cases. Pausing, in my opinion, gives the audience an opportunity to mentally drift away from the speech, depending on the length of the pause. Pausing may be acceptable if the speaker is using signposts, but when signposts are used, the audience is made aware of what s coming after the pause, which makes them more likely to keep listening. In my opinion, connectives are extremely important in certain situations where the audience is only attending out of necessity such as in a business meeting. In these situations, many members of audience aren t very interested to begin with. A speaker needs to use effective connectives or risk losing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a few issues that contributed to this main problem. First issue would be an unnecessary extrinsic motivator of bonuses to the Scanlon Plan. Originally, workers had intrinsic motivation from communication meetings, which provides feedback for the company. However with the additional extrinsic motivator, employees find the tasks over sufficiently justified under the self perception effect so intrinsic value would be lowered. When bonuses stopped, employees lost motivation to work. Another issue would be about the equity theory. In the plan, workers earn the same amount from the bonuses regardless of the effort implemented. Therefore some Engstrom workers lost motivation since supervisors work less but are still paid equally. This resulted in many workers complaining due to an inequality of ratios. The last issue in the Scanlon Plan occurred when the company decided to lay people off. Employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would secure the basic level on Maslow s hierarchy. Management could abolish the Scanlon Plan and advocate an individually based incentive plan. Workers would earn bonuses according to their personal performances. This would be a great extrinsic motivator for employees but this would lower the intrinsic value. Additionally, the free rider problem and equity theory could be solved. As has been seen throughout the previous discussions on genocides in our history, once again the discussion proclaims the emergence of one group demonstrating not only prejudice feelings but the mindset of establishing a totalitarian society. This aspect also occurred during the Bangladesh genocide that was unleashed by the Pakistani armed officials. The Bangladesh genocide began on March 25th, 1971 and ended on December 16, 1971. A major impact of the genocide was the introduction of violence in Bangladesh society, politics, and culture. Prior to 1971, Bengalis were a relatively peaceful and homogenous community with a low level of violent crimes (p.261). Before the war, the Bengalis had been peaceful people who truly desired and believed that they deserved their autonomy from Pakistan. The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far filmhas come, and looking back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent movies, but I most certainly remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch on TV. In the 1980s, I always wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially when I switched to another channel that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and white TV show that I used to watch was The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed watching this show for its funny slapstick action; however I did not enjoy watching it in black and white, as my focus was primarily on the main characters and not the scenery or objects around them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became a thing of the past because black and white films became less accessible in either television or movies. They lost their holy city, the Temple was destroyed, and the Davidic monarchy ended (Beasley 221). Following the destruction of Jerusalem, the Babylonian king, Nebuchadrezzar, deported most of the population to other cities, including Babylon. These exiles remained there for about fifty years until the Persian forces, under king Cyrus, took the city of Babylon in 539 BC. These workmen helped to make Babylon the most elegant of its day, and its beautiful gardens and architecture surpassed anything previously from Assyria (Whitely 71 72). These works offer expositions of and opinions on the philosophical issue of the moral worth of adhering to a certain set of values, and how a person s motivations for doing so can change their worth and the desirability of their way of life. Wolf offers the position that leading an extremely morally good life is undesirable, while Mill s opposing position is that if moralityleads to happiness, then that behavior is preferable. To determine which of these stances on the value of morality has the most pertinence, these two arguments will be outlined and consequently analyzed. Their differences and similarities will be enumerated and described, and consequently their merit will be discussed. Finally, Wolf s moral theory will be proven to be inferior to Mills s, due to its prejudice, lack of supportive evidence, and its inability to be universally applicable. In making this argument, he claims that we had some knowledge of imperceptible things prior to our birth, and that through recollection of our pre birth knowledge of imperceptible things, we are able to perceive certain qualities of things like equalitybeginning after our birth. Socrates argument begins by defining recollection as when someone perceives one thing, knows that thing, and also thinks of another thing of which the knowledge is not the same but different (73c). Socrates asks that we consider our perceptionof equal things, such as sticks and sticks or stones and stones. He claims there is Equal itself or the Form of Equality, which is unmistakably equal at all times (74a). Once the Form of Equality, is agreed upon, Socrates claims that as long as the sight of one thing makes you think of another, whether it be similar or dissimilar, you are recollecting (74d). Socrates then concludes that because we are able to make judgments about equal things through perception, we must have knowledge of the Form of Equality prior to making these judgments about equal and unequal things, and we are able to recognize these things as equal or unequal by recalling the form of equality. The imperfect nature of humans, he believed, was responsible for the tendency for men and women of good hearts to commit sin and fall into despicable situations. Hawthorne s works can be classified as a sub genre of Dark Romanticism, which highlights the unintended consequences and complications that arise from well meaning efforts of people at making the society a better place to live.... However, according to Henry James (an American writer who moved to England and became a British subject), what most appealed to Hawthorne s imagination was the old secret of mankind in general... the secret that we are really not by any means so good as a well regulated society requires us to appear. According to of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, civilization requires people to suppress and deny their aggressive and sexual impulses, which leads to inner conflict, guilt, and in some individuals to neurosis and psychosis. This is the area of human consciousness that Hawthorne explored even before Freud was even born. Hawthorne approached this topic in a guarded way, which is the reason why his works are so full of allegory and symbolism. • 48. Reflective Essay About My Mandala During the past few weeks in Global Perspectives we explored our personal culture, and the influences that shape it. Our task was to create a mandala: a circular set of symbols that convey the contrast between the sun and shadow sides of our personality. While the sun side is the disposition other people see, the shadow side captures unseen aspects of our personality. In this reflection, I further examine how I embody the characteristic behind each symbol and how I came to possess this characteristic. First, on the sun side (right), the uppermost symbol is a firecracker, which represents my exuberance. Firecrackers are loud, colorful, and unpredictable. Being the youngest of my friends and family, I have always been loud craving attention and achieved it through antics, similar to a firecracker exploding. However, as exciting as some consider firecrackers, to some they are scary. My loud personality and my never ending energy sometimes send the wrong impression, and I come off as a little hard to handle. • 49. Harriet Jacobs Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl The impact of Gender in the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl The autobiography , Incidents in the Life of a Slave girl, was written by Harriet Ann Jacobs under the pseudonym name Linda Brendt. This book details the life of slavery and how Jacobs achieved freedom for her children and for herself. Jacobs detailed these painful, and intricate accounts through forty one chapters. Harriet Jacobs unfortunate experiences as a slave were significantly shaped because of her gender. Jacobs did indeed endure struggles through her race, but her gender is of great significance during her time as a slave. Jacobs used herself as an example to show how enslaved women were manipulated by their masters, the difficulties of being a mother during slavery mother, and how the fight for freedom were all impacted by her gender. Once Jacobs original mistress passed away, she was sold to a manipulative and lustful master. Forty years her senior, Dr. Flint, began to manipulate her at the age of fifteen But I now entered on my fifteenth year a sad epoch in the life of a slave girl. My master began to whisper foul words in my ear (chapter V). The manipulation not only troubled her, but her mistress became jealous and full of hatred over fourteen year old Jacobs. This caused tension between the mistress, Dr. Flint and Jacobs. Jacobs directed to the audience that beauty is an asset to those who are not slaves, but an immense disadvantage to slaves. Jacobs understood that she is able to induce the jealousy and anger of Mrs. Flint, She will be compelled to realize that she is no longer a child. If God has bestowed beauty upon her, it will prove her greatest curse. That which commands admiration in the white woman only hastens the degradation of the female slave (chapter V). Although, Mrs. Flint was aware of the manipulation, Mrs.Flint could not control her husband s behavior towards Jacobs. Thus, leading Mrs. Flint to take her jealousy and rage onto Jacobs. Even though Mrs.Flint understood that Jacobs was not in control of the situation, Mr. Flint was. Blake discards the common, glorifying view of London and replaces it with his idea of truth. London is nothing more but a city strapped by harsh economic times where Royalty and other venues of power have allowed morality and goodness to deteriorate so that suffering and poverty are all that exist. It is with the use of three distinct metaphors; mind forg d manacles , blackning Church , and Marriage hearse , that Blake conveys the idea of a city that suffers from physical and psychological imprisonment, social oppression, and an unraveling moral society. Therefore, because the surroundings are so confined and unclean, it reflects and reinforces the distress of ordinary citizens (Richey 2) Disease is another factor that contributes to the distress of citizens. And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse (Line 16). The presence of an oxymoronic phrase places an emphasis on the current state of London s marriage practices. Marriage no longer represents rebirth and purity but is looked upon as costly and unclean. Men and women become careless with their sexual activities and help spread sexually transmitted diseases affecting not only themselves but others and future generations (Richey 1). It is the presence of sexual promiscuity and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases that lead to the death of marriage. The Church creates woe for citizens by acknowledging and advertising that earthly suffering is permissible because heaven grants rewards to faithful followers who do not complain (2).
