Dealing with Conflicts in the Workplace
Conflict Management Styles
Conflict occurs in organizations whenever a difference of opinions exists. People disagree over
many things including but not limited to, policies and procedures, the overall direction of the
company, and distribution of rewards. This type of conflict is substantive conflict, as described in
our reading text organizational behavior as a, fundamental disagreement over ends or goals to be
pursued . The second type of conflict is emotional conflict; which involves, interpersonal
difficulties that arise over feelings of anger, mistrust, dislike, fear, resentment, and the like. This
type of conflict occurs when two or more persons do not see eye to eye or simply do not get along
for whatever reason. I cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our company many of the technicians have never been anything other than the technician.
They have never experienced what it is like to be the customer depending on someone else for
technological knowledge and expertise. I try to get my employees to place themselves in the
shoes of the customer and treat them, as they would expect to be treated. This works both ways;
I have never been a technician and do not understand a lot of the problems and frustrations that
they experience. So in turn, we share our thoughts, our experiences and our ideas on how we can
make our organization a more profitable one. We each realize our limitations and together strive
for the common goals of the organization. Another one of my particular strengths is my ability to
perceive conflict in situations before and as they arise. I can sense that if we are to implement a
particular policy and/or procedure how my staff will react to it. This helps us to plan ways to
eliminate conflict before it even begins. Conflict is inevitable when diverse people from different
circumstances and backgrounds work together. Everyone had different visions and ideas as to how
various situations should be dealt with. If conflict is not managed in an appropriate manner it can
become time consuming and a waste of management resources. By acknowledging this and dealing
with conflict in a forthright and straightforward manner, conflict can

Summary Of Love Triangles In The Knight s Tale
If you want to end a love triangle, then either make it a line or a square.
Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it
is two men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two
flirtatious competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war,
and locked in a tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape,
and fight each other for her hand.
Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are
fairly close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they
immediately fall in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each
other and try to kill each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the
hand of Emily, winner takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The
three main gods in this text are venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the
god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon, Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and
her temple are significant in this story because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals
with the different connections of the flirters and the flirted.
In this Quote, the Narrator, the knight, is describing the temple of Venus in the arena.
First, in the fame of Venus, one might see, Wrought on the

How Did The Mongols Change Over Time
Two Civilizations: Change Over Time and Continuity Over Time During this time period, there
were alterations in many civilizations. Some had multiple major fluctuations, while others did not
change much but were long lasting. The Mongols, for instance, did similar (if not the same things)
over and over again throughout their reign. What they did was successful and because of that, their
empire was long lasting. Unlike the Mongols, Italy had much change during this period of time.
Both of these things caused the two different societies to flourish and last. The Mongols had the
greatest continuity over time, but Italy had the greatest change over time, ending in good results for
both of the civilizations. The Mongol empire was a pastoral one,... Show more content on

with art flourishing and great writers and artists being produced. From Italy, their blooming of art

What is Stress? Stress is a physical response to events whether bad or good. Everybody has stress
but, not all stress is bad stress. Stress can be caused by both environment and genes. There are at
least three different types of stress routine stress (everyday stress), sudden stress brought about by a
sudden negative change, and traumatic stress which can happen when you re seriously ill. Stress is
the body s normal reaction to events whether negative or positive.

Living On The Streets Or Begging For Food
After the economic downturn from 2007 2009, homelessness has grown dramatically. Without
having a job, people cannot support their families or even themselves. The only other option for
some jobless people is living on the streets or begging for food. People classify homeless people as
scary or losers, but in reality, they are people looking for a life like everyone else. Homeless people
do not have anywhere to go, so why should there be laws against living on the streets or beggingfor
food?
Every human in the United States has rights, but during this time and age, our human rights are
being abused. In Birmingham, Alaska, a police officer stopped a minister after serving the
homeless food from his meal truck. According to an article by ABC, Minister Rick Wood said
the police forced him to leave the area because he did not have a permit from the health
department (qtd. in Fisher). This incident is not the only one that has happened. The act of
giving or sharing food with the homeless is banned and against the law. And as Minister Wood
learned, police are standing by ready to enforce these laws, since apparently they have nothing
better to do than take food away from the homeless (Fisher). This is absolutely wrong. A generous
man willing to share his extra food with someone who is starving and may be starving for awhile,
should not be illegal. If the homeless people are not begging violently for the food they need, then
I do not see one problem with sharing food that will

Comparing Carl Jung s And Isabel Briggs Myers
Personality tests, and more specifically, one that follows Carl Jung s and Isabel Briggs Myers
typological approach, can be another means of exploring the possibility of gaining understanding
about ourselves. In my own assessment, I discovered results that uncovered the reality that the test
does have some merit for consideration and application when it concerns personality delineation. In
conducing the test on myself, I discovered that it deemed me more extraverted (ENFJ) than I
assumed, at least in a self reflective, historical sense. However, this isn t surprising to me because
of all the changes Jesus has brought about in my life. Furthermore, the results also demonstrate that
I possess entrepreneurial ability as well as concern for others.

Literary Criticism Of Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood is evenly concerned with encouraging a discrete Canadian literary identity. In
her novels, Atwood naturally creates women characters who are strained to rebuild themselves in
a more self contained and audacious figure as they seek out to set up their relationship to the
world and to the individuals around them. Atwood s dissections of contemporary urban life and
sexual politics have been chiefly welcomed by feminists. She is no less concerned in setting up
what it means to be Canadian, centering her stories in Canadian cities, conflicts and contemporary
people. Her writings are such which insists on Canadians to focus on and value their own
experience. Atwood s fictionis often symbolic and she moves easily between satire, fantasy... Show

The social dimensions of Atwood s fiction are always underpinned and sometimes destabilized by
representations of individual behaviour.
If a particular era of literature is taken into account, there will be many writers who have lived in the
same age and have contributed to the society through their writings. Likewise, the contemporary
writers of Margaret Atwood, who have also lived during the age when Atwood has resided and also
who have continued their journey together at the same time and influenced each other through their

She is the writer who finds inspiration from people around her through their actions and

Executive Summary The FBI Information Technology Upgrade Project (FITUP) was initiated in
2000, and, after five years of cascading problems, was abandoned for the Sentinel project in
2005. Estimated to cost $170M, VCF went over budget by approximately $330M (Nelson 2007).
The project was meant to modernize the FBI s antiquated computer system and included a case
management system, an evidence management system, and a records management system
(Marchewka 2010). As we will discuss in the course of our case study, the Trilogy Project would
fail for a number of reasons. Despite failing, Project Trilogy is not alone when it comes to project
management blunders. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without centralized IT leadership defining program goals, alignment within the agency s IT
programs was not possible. Culturally, existing tools, such as the Automated Case Support (ACS)
system, were under utilized, and agents did not trust them to protect evidence and confidential
sources (OIG Audit Report 05 07, 2005). Numerous techniques exist that would have allowed
Trilogy leadership to gain key input from system users, which would have had the dual benefit of
creating understanding of the ground level needs of users and fostering user buy in at the project s
outset.
Formal Project Definition
Trilogy management attempted to provide a formal project definition that explained the mission of
the project, focused the project planning efforts and outlined the project deliverables. Trilogy was
so named due to its three components: the Information Presentation Component (IPC), the
Transportation Network Component (TNC) and User Application Component (UAC). The IPC
and TNC components were adequately defined, but the UAC was poorly defined, with
catastrophic results. Trilogy management recognized that the size and complexity of the project
required the use of external resources with proper IT project experience and technical expertise.
Two contractors were used, one for the IPC and TNC, and a second for UAC. The IPC/TNC
contract included three major milestones as part of a phased rollout: Fast Track, Extended Fast
Track and Full Site Capability.

According to The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, homelessness has
increased for the first time in seven years; in 2017, almost 554,000 people were homeless (The
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development 2018, 1). The population of America in
2017 was over 324,459,000 people (Worldometers 2018). This means for every 10,000 people
there are 20 who are homeless. Out of the homeless people in the United States, 40,000 were

Upon seeing someone, you are creating symbolic meanings over their appearance. When you
think of a homeless person, you may visualize a thin, dirty person with long unkempt hair and
facial hair wearing dirty, weathered clothing. Some may put a label on them saying they are a
scammer or a druggy. You may imagine someone pushing around a shopping cart, carrying a book

One day I was taking a hike in the Himalayan mountains and came upon a big wall of stone
blocking the path. In the middle of the stone wall was a round little door with a key hanging on
a hook beside it. Being cautious I crept up to the door and knocked. I don t know who would
have answered the door if someone had answered. I was puzzled and stuck to the spot thinking
of what to do. I decided to walk back to my village way down below and come back tomorrow to
see if the wall was still there. When I got home I ran straight to the town square to go to my father
s workshop. I told Papa all about my journey in the mountains. He warned me of animals that
would take me away to the darkest corners and eat me up. Just then Tijana came running into the
store. There is a tiger in the rice fields! he shouted. Every once in awhile the wild beasts from the
jungle would come into the valley in which the village sat. Our bravest men would shoot arrows
and protect us. When the creature went away or was dead we would celebrate, but that never ...

Randall Jarrell s The Knight, Death and the Devil inspired by the 16th century engraving by
Albrecht DГјrer is the perfect instance of ekphrasis ( to speak out Greek), which here, verbally
represents the piece of art. This means the poem is quite literally the description of the engraving;
which led to the poet s justified use of hyphenated moderators throughout the poem as a means to
apply special emphasis on visual descriptions. Jarrell s, description of the art object defines his
interpretation of the engraving. Choosing what to describe, in what order and in how much detail,

The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication
The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled
around the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into
those that demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the
duration of their college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police
(Hefling). As a topic that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an
organized, thorough investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether
the colleges themselves or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these
vile crimes has arisen; some believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a
legal stance in order to serve justice at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment
through the court system is too nerve wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do
so is the only way they can avoid feeling skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX).
However, when juxtaposing the capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to
the adjudication process, it is evident that the courts are more competent in determining
punishments for campus sexual assaults. It has been argued that colleges are more equipped for
attending to the emotional well being of campus sexual assaultvictims. Title IX, a federal gender
equity law passed in 1972

Factory Farmed Animals Summary
In his article Puppies, Pigs, and People Eating and Marginal Cases , Norcross makes the argument
that buying factory raised meat and eating it can be morally compared to obtaining puppies and
torturing them to extract cocoamone hormone for gustatory pleasure. He also states that meat
eaters that come to this realization should turn vegetarian. According to people who disagree with
Norcross, they argue the fact that factory farmed animals are not puppies, most consumers do not
torture or kill the factory farmed meat, and becoming vegetarian will not really make an impact
and prevent animal suffering. If majority of the US population switched their diet to become
vegetarian, there would be less animal suffering and would lead to a big impact

Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton Essay
Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton
Chance (or coincidence) has an ambiguous role in the outcome of different situations; it can work
in or against one s favour. As in real life, chance in literature has considerable influence on the
circumstances of the characters and where those circumstances lead.
In two particular literary works, Roman Fever and A Small, Good Thing, chance happenings have
grave results on the lives of the characters concerned. In Roman Fever, old friends meet by chance
and reveal disturbing secrets about the past; while in A Small, Good Thing a boy is injured on his

The two old friends had not seen each other in years, but met again in a hotel in Rome where they
were both vacationing with their respective daughters. Naturally, it seems, the two daughters
develop a friendship. Such occurrences would otherwise be unfathomable if it was not for the
precise meaning of chance; the unpredictable element in happenings that cannot be assigned a cause
(Hougton Mifflin, 2000). Chance provides an understanding, not an explanation, and, hence, an
acceptance of such occurrences. The chance meeting of these two old friends sets the stage for the
revelation of secrets that were also influenced by the unexpected.
Knowing that Grace had romantic interest in her then fiancГ©, Mr.

Thus, Delphin arranged for the meeting to take place. Whether irony or bad luck, Mrs. Slade had

A Comparison Of The Seven Year Itch, Trifles
In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and
Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities
of the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in
different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in
social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.
The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play
takes place is 1952. There is a big difference between this play and Trifles; women had more
freedom to do what they wanted and some of them even held jobs now, although rather low ... Show

Up until the 1940 s women were pretty much property to their fathers and husbands. They cleaned
and did most of all the housework, while men went out and worked. In the early years of the 1900s
women were not allowed to own property in their own name; the woman s property that she did
own became her husband s when married. Women who protested in the Progressive Movement
were reported as being neurotic, wanting to intimidate men, be hysterical and homosexual. In only
four states were women allowed to vote, most urban areas were less tolerable of this issue (
Progressive ). Trifles is an accurate example of the treatment women had in the American home.
Mrs. Wright was basically a prisoner in her own home. The women noticed things such as broken

shown that she was unhappy with her new life. Mrs. Wright used to love to sing, but her husband
made her quit. While the men belittled the women s investigations around the Wright home, the
women pretty much solved the crime. They did keep Mrs. Wright out of trouble by not telling the
men about their new discoveries. That goes to show that women tend to pay more attention to the
finer details while it may go unnoticed by an uncaring eye

The Industrial Revolution In America
Industrial Revolution in America
The industrial revolution in America took place in the nineteenth and twentieth century. During this
period there was mass production, modern technologies were made, people were getting rich and
this made America to be the global superpower in the world. The united states economy grew fast.
America became so rich that mark twain called it the Gilded Age
Although there Britain was the first to have access to the industrial revolution in the 17th and 18th
century, my focus will be on the American industrial revolution. Industrial revolution came into
existence after the end of the civil war. During the revolution transportation, electricity, and
industrial building came into existence and became very popular and made very significant changes
in the nation.
Transportations like the railroad which was linked to different communities and states was built,
steamboats, the Eerie canal, and road were also built. Although railroad was in existence during
the start of the civil war it became more popular after the end of the civil war.
During the 1860s, the Central Pacific Railroad started building rail track from Sacramento,
California. While the Union Pacific started laying tracks from Nebraska. In 1869, this made both
tracks to meet at a place in Utah, this enabled the united states to travel by train from the Atlantic

The Portrayal Of Female Characters In Lysistrata By...
Given just the plot of Lysistrata, one might think that Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a highly
progressive comedy in which women are empowered and are given meaning beyond the household.
Unfortunately, as one starts to delve deeper into the story, there are many things that point the over
way, mainly the portrayal of secondary female characters, the women s overall willingness to
discount their non physical features and the peace making scene around the end of the story.
The events in the play encourage the notion that the best thing young women have going for them
is their bodies. In the beginning of the play, it is pointed out that the women present during the pact
all have very nice bodies. As each women arrives this is the first thing Lysistrataand Kleonike
notice; they make it abundantly clear in the conversation as well. (Aristophanes, 356) While
Lysistrata is telling her about her plan, Kleonike even says Wisdom for women? There is nothing
cosmic about cosmetics and glamor is our only talent. All we can do is sit, primped and painted,
made up and dressed up. (Aristophanes, 353)
Even though, the women gain power in the play by withholding sex from the men, they also
withhold sex from themselves. Their struggles with coping with the temporary abstinence is
demonstrated by frequent complaining among the women and, later, the averted endangerment of
the movement as a result of some women trying to ditch the effort. The women that tried to leave

Financial Principles and Concepts Financial concepts can be used when a company is considering
various options. Which options cost more and which options will result in higher gains are two of
the financial factors that affect decisions. In the University of Phoenix (n.d.) scenario, Guillermo s

company. This paper explains and relates three basic principles and concepts to the scenario.

Financial Concepts Financial concepts are just as easily related to the furniture store scenario as
the principles. The following concepts are only a few of the many financial concepts that are
important when making business decisions. Guillermo s furniture store provides many ways to
look at these concepts. An important financial concept, that can be applied in almost any situation,
financial or not, is the concept of the opportunity cost, or the difference between the value of one
action and the value of the best alternative, (Emery, Finnerty, Stowe, 2007, p. 20). Options are very
valuable and Guillermo had both the call option, the right to buy another company, and the put
option, the right to sell his company (Emery, Finnerty, Stowe, 2007). Guillermo s opportunity cost
would be the cost of not choosing one option, to buy or sell, over the other. Another cost concept
that can be applied involve sunk costs, costs that have already been incurred and subsequent
decisions cannot change them (Emery, Finnerty, Stowe, 2007). A sunk cost for Guillermo would
be the materials used in his special stain that he had already purchased before he chose the broker
option where his special stain was no longer needed. The zero sum game concept is when a
transaction occurs where one party gains at the expense of the other (Emery, Finnerty, Stowe,
2007). In this scenario, if

Viva La Vida Coldplay Meaning
If you had the choice to be a king, would you take it? The song Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, could

something from it. There are many interpretations of the song, but the real meaning is about the
Roman Catholic Church and King Louis XVI both having a lot of power, then losing it all. The

Impact Of Gold Rush On Australian Identity
A gold rush is a large scale and hasty movement of people to a region where gold has been
discovered (Unkown, 2018). There were multiple gold finds before 1851 but none of them caused
gold rushes, then in 1851 the first Australian gold rush started. As soon has people had heard of
payable gold in Australia they started flocking from all over the country and even overseas which
was a major economy boost for Australia and helped it to become the nation to which it is today.
The Australian gold rushhad a major impact on establishing the Colonial Australian identity, through
many changes and long term affects.

step towards democracy. It was a falling out between the diggers and the trooper, the diggers
were protesting the high price of their licence fees, after the confrontation in Ballarat changers

Now, coming out with this definition in our minds, we begin to grasp some knowledge about the
reality about Eschatology, especially the way we can bring down the meaning of this word in the
context that we live and adapt to in our community. However, we must have in mind that we must
see death differently as Kubler Ross explained;
The problem of death is a universal human question. But the answer to that question differs among
cultures. In addition to different ways of dealing with those members of the culture who are dying,
different human societies have also offered a variety of explanations for the phenomenon of death
and its meaning for human existence.
As Christian we can see that all these words correlate with each other as we now look into our
traditional belief to Eschatology and the way we interpret them accordingly.

2)Traditional Belief of Eschatology
Islands in the Solomon have one thing in common and that is life after death. This means, they
believe people go to certain places within their Islands when they die. In Isabel, especially people
in Bugotu, we believe very much that people go straight to San George Island immediately after
they die. Even today people hold on to this belief, however because of the influences that the
church ponders upon this belief, it started to fade away from people s mentality.
In other words we can say that San George Island is

Citizen Kane Analysis
Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In
many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each
one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah
to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kaneowes a great deal to
Orson Wellesbecause of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which
without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its
time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema
forever.
It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many
reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope
of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize
cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep
focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time
contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life).
Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition,
and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique

Annexation Of Texas Dbq Essay
Throughout the late 1830s and early 1840s, political controversy broke out over the annexation of
Texas into the United States claiming that it was the destiny of the country to expand through the
Manifest Destiny. Many Americans saw the potential addition of Texas as an essential component
in Westward expansion, however, war with Mexicowas an unavoidable risk and would create even
more problems with slavery. Northern and Western regions of the Unites States opposed annexation
because while the South wanted to add Texasinto the Union to expand the slave industry.
Annexation of Texas was also seen as revenge for the vast amount of American deaths during the
Alamo and Goliad. Politicians battled back and forth on whether or not Texas should be in

Nile River Cycle Analysis
In Egypt, the Nile River creates a rich green valley across the desert. It was by the banks of the
river that one of the oldest civilizations in the world began. The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed
along the Nile, using the soil to produce food for themselves and their animals. Document A, a map
of Egyptaround 1500 BCE, was founded by multiple sources and was created in order to illustrate
how the placement of the river was beneficial to the success of cities across Egypt. The creators of
this map had no bias because the structure of the document is strictly factual. The map demonstrates
the areas that are gray represent the fertile NileValley. The Nile Valley is spread across lower and
upper Egypt, from cities such as Buto to Abu Simbel. It is an important document because it
clarifies how the river was able to have a strong influence on the citizens of Egypt. This indicates
that there was a vast number of people that had to depend on the Nile as a freshwater source, even
for tasks included in their daily life.
Document B, a chart of The Nile River Flood Cycle, written by Katherine Hinds was written to
explain how the different seasons of Egypt were affected by the river s flood cycle. Hinds view on
the river s flood cycle may be influenced by the fact that she will unintentionally compare ancient
Egypt s different seasons to modern times, however, this bias is not evident in the text. The
seasons mentioned were Akhet, the flood season, Peret, the planting and growing season, and
Shemu, the harvest season. Akhet took place in mid June to mid October, and in these months
the fields were subjected to flooding, due to the surrounding river, which meant farmers were
provided with more labor such as canal repair. Peret came to pass in mid October to mid
February where enough time has passed for the water to subside and supply irrigation canals, in
which crops were planted and sustained until Shemu, which took place until the cycle resumed its
place in Akhet, where they were then harvested and sold in the market. The document s intent was
to express how the different seasons were useful to everyday life long ago. It is significant because
it shows how people were employed and citizens were provided with

The Existence of UFOs Essay
Do UFO s Exist or Not
For half a century the subject of UFO has been discussed by scientists, ecologists, politicians, and
common people around the world. It seems paradoxical, but the main question of their discussion
concerns existence or non existence of UFO itself, so many people is not sure that the very subject
of their debate really exists. I share the opinion of those who do not believe in UFO saying that this
phenomenon has not been scientifically proved, and everything its adherents operates is conjecture
and fantasy, and disconnected stories of those who allegedly have seen UFO are far from scientific
explanation of the event.
On the one hand, the very name UFO, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some scientists and psychologists specialized in the study of past life memories in children, and
carefully studied the use of interviews with witnesses as the main method of researching these
cases, deny the true nature of such evidences. Taking into account the psychological explanation of
this problem, it is possible to summarize that many of the persons who witnesses UFO live in the
world of dreams and have some psychological problems, and the desire to be an extraordinary one
push them to believe that witnessed UFO (Thompson, 2005).
In reality, many scientists were skeptical of both UFOs and of alien life in general; they contended
that interstellar travel would be easy for advanced civilizations, so the lack of overt contact
disproved alien existence. Yet most UFO opponents do believe alien life exists out in the universe,
just not here. So they defend the near impossibility of interstellar travel, which contradicts a
considerable portion of the scientific community (Thompson, 1990).
This fact allows reject evidence that would otherwise confirm the presence of a solid object under
intelligent control with propulsion irreproducible by human technology (Thompson, 1990). For
instance, when a certain degree of physical substance for an airplane is obtained for an
unconventional disk shaped vehicle, this degree of evidence is accepted for the airplane but
rejected for the anomalous vehicle (National UFO reported Center, 2005).

Paying NCAA Athletes Essay
Outline
Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to inform my audience about the issue of potentially paying
college athletes so that they may make an informed decision themselves.
Thesis: As the popularity, and revenue continues to grow in college sports, the debate will be taken
to new heights about whether or not college athletes are being exploited, and if they should be
compensated monetarily.
I. (C)The National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA) defines amateurism as, The conviction
that people should participate in sports as a hobby (for the fun of it) rather than for money. The
NCAA mandates that all college athletes maintain this level of amateurism while in college,

a hefty amount of cash being invested in each athlete.
C. Obviously some colleges have higher budgets and higher amounts of athletes than others, so
how do you make sure you pay each athlete equally while still staying above the budget? You can t.
1. Trying to pay a football team alone could plunge a university underneath their budget with an
average of nearly 100 players per team.
2. On top of that, there are 28 more sports with athletes waiting to have their pockets filled with
cash.
3. And finally, it takes away funding for other important academic areas of the college.
Transition: The budget just simply isn t there for a university of any size to reasonably pay each
and every athlete so finally I will explain some different ways an NCAA athlete could possibly
make some money.
IV. There are plenty of ways an athlete could make money, but it would require some self
marketing and a little help from the NCAA.
A. A player could seek out additional sponsorships and advertising deals like a professional athlete.
1.The athlete isn t technically making money off their playing ability they re making the money
from the name on the back of their jersey.
B. Opposers of this idea would say that equality plays a factor here as well.
2. Not every athlete is as

Commodities And The Stock Market
When comes to commodities and the stock market, investors are quick to blame oil prices for
causing market volatility. Granted this is case more often than not, other commodities such as
corn and gold have a tremendous impact on daily stock prices. Global commodities are typically
broken down into 4 basic headers; energy, metals, agriculture, meat livestock, and consumer.
Energy, as we know, watch the most heavily scrutinized assets including oil and natural gases.
Metals, on the other hand, track our most precious assets, gold and silver. While agriculture, meat
livestock and consumer observe corn, coffee and live cattle to name a few. Since commodities, and

Obviously when oil prices are volatile, earnings from company s like Exxon Mobil will
fluctuate. Investors are quick to take notice of this, causing share prices of energy companies to
fall. However, what you may not be aware of is that oil is a key input into a variety of goods and
products we use daily. Retail manufactures often use oil to make plastics or fertilizers found at
your local Walmart. By extension, when the price of oil rises, major retailers pass on rising costs
onto consumers in the form of higher prices. If they aren t able to pass along the cost increase, then
retailers face an adverse impact on margins, subsequently hurting stock prices. Moreover, oil prices
have a directly effect what you end up paying at theh pump. When oils prices are high, consumer
spending typically suffers since consumers must dig deeper to on necessities and fuel. Auto
manufactures often feel this effect through falling sales of its higher margin SUVs and trucks.
Gold
Unlike oil, gold prices indirectly follows movements in the market. Throughout history gold has
been viewed as a counter cyclical asset, which means the precious metals gains value during
market down turns. Since gold is found all over the world and holds high intrinsic value, it is
often viewed as a universal currency. When the outlook of the equity markets looks bleak or
corporate earnings are destined for doom, investors will flock to the precious

The Values Of Islam In The United States
In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics
and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel acts committed by individuals and groups who
claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries
where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious,
fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs. Many of these judgements are preconceived
and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality,
Islamand Christianityare not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually
coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god, although Muslims use the Arabic
word, Allah . There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians
believe in and follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both
follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions do. Although both groups
acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the
son of God. This is arguably the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different
degrees. Some branches of Christianity follow strict modesty codes while other branches are more

because they are safe and good fro the environment. Modern day airships would use helium, a

The Opium War was a major part of China s history. There were many economic issues, (the high

consequences of the British victory (Britain s greater power over China) that precipitated the

British power reduced China s autonomy and made them more dependent on Europe. The high

Courtly Love in The Knight s Tale and The Wife of Bath s Tale
The noble knight slays the dragon and rescues the fair maiden...and they live happily ever after.
This seemingly clichГ© finale encompasses all the ideals of courtly love, which began in the
Medieval Period and still exists today. While these ideals were prevalent in medieval society, they
still existed with much controversy. Geoffrey Chaucer, a poet of the period, comments on courtly
love in his work The Canterbury Tales. Through the use of satiric elements and skilled mockery,
Chaucer creates a work that not only brought courtly love to the forefront of medieval society but
also introduced feministic ideals to the medieval society. At times, Chaucer even makes readers
question his beliefs by presenting contrasting elements of principle... Show more content on

While this idea of daring exploits and melodramatic ideals is intriguing, in reality, courtly love is
more of a literary invention. Through works such as ChrГ©tien de Troyes s Lancelot, Guilaume
de Lorris s Roman de la Rose, and Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde, courtly love has evolved from
an adventurous race towards love into one of the most important literary influences in Western
culture ( Courtly Love ). While the ideals of courtly love were highly accepted and almost
idealized in medieval society, the origin of these ideals remains a mystery because the very
definition of courtly love is debated among modern and ancient literary scholars (Wollock 32).
Since courtly love is not specifically defined, it exists in many spectrums. Gaston Paris, a
French writer and scholar, suggests a worldly idea of courtly love with little attention given to
morals. He defined courtly love by the lover s worship of an idealized lady based on sexual
attraction and desire. Being a controversial idea, an opposite idea of courtly love also exists. C.S.
Lewis, a French theologian and literary critic, presents a conservative idea of courtly love based
on religion and morality. His summation of courtly love includes Humility, Courtesy, Adultery, and
the Religion of Love. Throughout history, many scholars have commented on their concept of
love, and it is safe to say that each scholar responded with a different idea based off his personnel
experiences (Wollock 31). Chaucer also

inspection of New Spain. He restructured the current taxes and their collection methods..
In 1778, Spain, attempting to increase its own revenues, lifted restrictions on colonial trade. This
allowed more commerce for the colonists and allowed for more trade between the privileged of
New Spain and the other Spanish colonies in America. Since the Spanish monarchy was so

Many Criollos in New Spain began to read the works of the Enlightenment writers and then began to
question the benefits and reasons for their colonial relationship with Spain. The Mexican colonists
were also affected by the examples of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.
All of the aforementioned factors contributed to the independence movement of Mexico. However,
the main steps towards independence came because of Napoleon s invasion of Spain in 1808.
The monarchy was greatly weakened when Napoleon gave the crown to his brother causing the
people of Madrid to revolt. With Spain s back turned, the leaders of New Spain began to argue
amongst themselves. The viceroy was forced to allow the Criollos to participate in administration.
Then, a group of Peninsulares, those who had been placed in many of the administrative positions,
did not like that the Criollos were gaining any influence in the government. They staged a coup d
etat and overthrew the viceregal government.
Shortly before dawn on September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a monumentous
decision that revolutionized the course of Mexican history. Within hours, Hidalgo, a Catholic
priest in the village of Dolores, ordered the arrest of Dolores native Spaniards. Then Hidalgo rang
the church bell as he customarily did to call the indians to mass. The message that Hidalgo gave to
the indians and mestizos called them to retaliate against the hated Gachupines, or native

Emily Dickinson Funeral
In Emily Dickinson s poem I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, Dickinson gives the indication that the
speaker could be descending into a world of madness. No one could conceive of becoming
conscious and finding themselves trapped inside of a coffin, in the midst of a funeral service and
realize it is for them.
Quite often in the 1800 s when a family member died without obvious explanation, a string was
attached to the little finger and threaded up to a bell on the outside of the grave. The purpose for
the bell was that if the thought to be deceased suddenly awoke from the paralysis, or coma, which
caused the appearance of death that when they moved the bell would ring and they could be quickly
dug up.

Mythological References in Hamlet Essay
Mythological References in Hamlet
What s in a name? Hamlet s good friend and confidant Horatio is doomed by the etymology of
his nomenclature to give good speech. Shakespeare has gifted Horatio with an elegant lucidty that,
when inspected closely, enables the reader to better comprehend the nature of the play; one of his
first addresses is key in setting the tone of what James Joyce called the grave and constant in
human suffering (Campbell 8). This is also a principal theme of classical mythology, and to fully
understand Hamlet as a tragic hero, a comprehension of the mythological references at the
beginning of the play must be foremost in the reader s mind. These metaphoric intimations of
tragedy; leaked in Hamlet s and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A fascinating event like an eclipse was used to explain away strange behavior or portend odd
goings on. It is believed that Hamlet was written no earlier than 1598. Around this time,
Copernicus concept of a heliocentric universe was gaining strong popularity. It is possible that
Shakespeare might have been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around
1200, it is more likely that a subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare s
pen into Horatio s intellect. With a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth
move in their orbits and how those movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have
equated this with motions and circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to
perform a double duty. One, he views the visitation of King Hamlet s host as precurse to fierce
events, almost like the calm before the storm(within Neptune s empire). Something bad is going to
happen: anytime you see a ghost it is usually bad news. Two, he uses the phrase Disasters in the
sun as a kind of prologue like epithet for Hamlet s light and to express the magnitude of the omen
coming on. The sun has always been the most powerful sustaining force in nature and is (perhaps)
thought to be

Impact Of A Firm s Announcements On The Same Company s...
Event studies focus on the impact of a firm s announcements on the same firm s stock prices. To a
certain extent, when an event is unexpected, the magnitude of abnormal performance is a measure
of the impact of that type of event on the wealth of a firm s shareholders (Brown and Warner,
1980). To begin with, in this paper, we assume the impact is unbiased, which means this market is
efficient. In an efficient market, the market price should be an unbiased estimate of the true value
of the stock. However, market efficiency does not require the price to be completely matched with
true value. Due to randomness, the price can either be under estimated or over estimated at any
point of time. When there is an announcement, the changing of prices related to the announcement
does not mean the market is inefficient. Martingale property theory assumes that knowledge of
past events cannot help to predict future winning s stock price. Only when this condition is
satisfied, then the market is a fair game. There are three versions of efficient market hypothesis:
weak form efficiency (contains all past price information), semi strong efficiency (contains all
public information), and strong efficiency (contains all public and insider information). The better
the price signal, the more info efficient the market. Event studies provide a direct test to market
efficiency. The day the information is released is generally defined as day zero. If we assume the
event window is five days, then t =

Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer
Historical Background
What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from
birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio
cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based
upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant
aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The
theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment
theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures
survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human
race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure.
It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by
Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has
on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies
have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture.
Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being.

The Silk Road And Its Effect On Every Aspect Of People s...
Though the magnitude of our trade today is unprecedented to history, its foundation can be linked
to The Silk Road. The Silk Road is referred to an ancient network of trading routes that started
around the 2nd century B.C, reaching its zenith around the time of the Tang dynasty (6th 9th c.)
and declining in the late 14th century B.C. . Its origin dates back to the Han Dynasty where the
Silk Road was used to reach out to surrounding cities and empires to develop alliances for trade.
The original purpose for The Silk Road was to link Chinato Europe through trade and for political
reasons, but later on merchants discovered that the route provided safer travel for carrying
merchandise from place to place. Not long after merchants and nomads... Show more content on

Silk, although the most traded, was only one of a wide range of goods imported between Eastern
and Western civilizations. Its importance lies not only in the traded merchandise and commodities
but also in its development of new ideas, spread of religions, and exchange of knowledge and
culture. The Silk Road stretched across the lands of Europe and the surrounding seas, connecting
various societies, allowing them to come in contact with other cultures, traditions, and ideas. The
Silk Road slowly threaded its way into the civilization of mankind making an inestimable
contribution to its development. The interactions between these worlds reshaped the lives of the
people from China to the Mediterranean.
The Silk Road allowed for exploration of other lifestyles, places, and resources which helped
shape early modern europe. The Silk Road led to new explorations, its purpose was prompted by
the desire of humans to explore. Therefore, the desire to explore created and lead to new
inspiration and piqued interest that built on top of their curiosity which resulted in the creation of
The Silk Road, which then eventually lead to more explorations. It is only natural for human
beings too long and yearn for things others have, that they lack. So it would seem appropriate that
the ancients should want to go far beyond the walls of their society to discover unfamiliar
territories, seeking to broaden their horizons,

People disagree over many things including but not limited to, policies and procedures, the overall direction of the company, and distribution of rewards. This type of conflict is substantive conflict, as described in our reading text organizational behavior as a, fundamental disagreement over ends or goals to be pursued . The second type of conflict is emotional conflict; which involves, interpersonal difficulties that arise over feelings of anger, mistrust, dislike, fear, resentment, and the like. They have never experienced what it is like to be the customer depending on someone else for technological knowledge and expertise. This works both ways; I have never been a technician and do not understand a lot of the problems and frustrations that they experience. So in turn, we share our thoughts, our experiences and our ideas on how we can make our organization a more profitable one. We each realize our limitations and together strive for the common goals of the organization. Another one of my particular strengths is my ability to perceive conflict in situations before and as they arise. I can sense that if we are to implement a particular policy and/or procedure how my staff will react to it. This helps us to plan ways to eliminate conflict before it even begins. Conflict is inevitable when diverse people from different circumstances and backgrounds work together. Everyone had different visions and ideas as to how various situations should be dealt with. • 3. Summary Of Love Triangles In The Knight s Tale If you want to end a love triangle, then either make it a line or a square. Courtly love is simply a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two men flirting the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious competitors, which is what happened in The Knight s Tale . They are prisoners of war, and locked in a tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each other for her hand. Palamon and Arcite are locked in a tower in athens by Theseus after surviving a battle. They are fairly close cousins, but when both see a beautiful woman, Emily, in a nearby garden, they immediately fall in love. Since love triangles never work, the cousins are blood thirsty for each other and try to kill each other. They eventually find themselves in an arena ready to fight for the hand of Emily, winner takes all. Each person prays to and gets the help of a certain god. The three main gods in this text are venus, the god of fertility, mars, the god of war, and Diana, the god of chastity. Venus helped Palamon, Mars helped Arcite, and Diana helped Emily. Venus and her temple are significant in this story because she is the goddess of love and sex. This story deals with the different connections of the flirters and the flirted. • 4. How Did The Mongols Change Over Time Two Civilizations: Change Over Time and Continuity Over Time During this time period, there were alterations in many civilizations. Some had multiple major fluctuations, while others did not change much but were long lasting. The Mongols, for instance, did similar (if not the same things) over and over again throughout their reign. What they did was successful and because of that, their empire was long lasting. Unlike the Mongols, Italy had much change during this period of time. Both of these things caused the two different societies to flourish and last. • 7. Living On The Streets Or Begging For Food After the economic downturn from 2007 2009, homelessness has grown dramatically. Without having a job, people cannot support their families or even themselves. The only other option for some jobless people is living on the streets or begging for food. People classify homeless people as scary or losers, but in reality, they are people looking for a life like everyone else. Homeless people do not have anywhere to go, so why should there be laws against living on the streets or beggingfor food? Every human in the United States has rights, but during this time and age, our human rights are being abused. In Birmingham, Alaska, a police officer stopped a minister after serving the homeless food from his meal truck. According to an article by ABC, Minister Rick Wood said the police forced him to leave the area because he did not have a permit from the health department (qtd. in Fisher). This incident is not the only one that has happened. The act of giving or sharing food with the homeless is banned and against the law. And as Minister Wood learned, police are standing by ready to enforce these laws, since apparently they have nothing better to do than take food away from the homeless (Fisher). This is absolutely wrong. A generous man willing to share his extra food with someone who is starving and may be starving for awhile, should not be illegal. If the homeless people are not begging violently for the food they need, then I do not see one problem with sharing food that will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Imperfect Process Of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication The Imperfect Process of Campus Sexual Assault Adjudication It s a statistic that has circled around the nation for years, one that imprints fear into the minds of young adults and rage into those that demand justice: 1 in 5 female college students will experience sexual assault in the duration of their college career (Clark), with only 20% of those rapes being reported to the police (Hefling). As a topic that is so highlighted in American society, there is a strict demand for an organized, thorough investigation that will result in justice served. Controversy regarding whether the colleges themselves or the criminal justice system should adjudicate the punishment for these vile crimes has arisen; some believe that as an actual crime, these assaults should be taken in a legal stance in order to serve justice at its fullest extent. Others believe that determining punishment through the court system is too nerve wracking for the victims and that by allowing colleges to do so is the only way they can avoid feeling skepticism by the police, juries, or courts (Know Your IX). However, when juxtaposing the capabilities of the colleges and the court system when it comes to the adjudication process, it is evident that the courts are more competent in determining punishments for campus sexual assaults. The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play takes place is 1952. Given just the plot of Lysistrata, one might think that Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a highly progressive comedy in which women are empowered and are given meaning beyond the household. Unfortunately, as one starts to delve deeper into the story, there are many things that point the over way, mainly the portrayal of secondary female characters, the women s overall willingness to discount their non physical features and the peace making scene around the end of the story. A sunk cost for Guillermo would be the materials used in his special stain that he had already purchased before he chose the broker option where his special stain was no longer needed. In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kaneowes a great deal to Orson Wellesbecause of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema forever. It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. • 30. Nile River Cycle Analysis In Egypt, the Nile River creates a rich green valley across the desert. It was by the banks of the river that one of the oldest civilizations in the world began. The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along the Nile, using the soil to produce food for themselves and their animals. Document A, a map of Egyptaround 1500 BCE, was founded by multiple sources and was created in order to illustrate how the placement of the river was beneficial to the success of cities across Egypt. The creators of this map had no bias because the structure of the document is strictly factual. The map demonstrates the areas that are gray represent the fertile NileValley. The Nile Valley is spread across lower and upper Egypt, from cities such as Buto to Abu Simbel. It is an important document because it clarifies how the river was able to have a strong influence on the citizens of Egypt. This indicates that there was a vast number of people that had to depend on the Nile as a freshwater source, even for tasks included in their daily life. Document B, a chart of The Nile River Flood Cycle, written by Katherine Hinds was written to explain how the different seasons of Egypt were affected by the river s flood cycle. Hinds view on the river s flood cycle may be influenced by the fact that she will unintentionally compare ancient Egypt s different seasons to modern times, however, this bias is not evident in the text. The seasons mentioned were Akhet, the flood season, Peret, the planting and growing season, and Shemu, the harvest season. Akhet took place in mid June to mid October, and in these months the fields were subjected to flooding, due to the surrounding river, which meant farmers were provided with more labor such as canal repair. Peret came to pass in mid October to mid February where enough time has passed for the water to subside and supply irrigation canals, in which crops were planted and sustained until Shemu, which took place until the cycle resumed its place in Akhet, where they were then harvested and sold in the market. The document s intent was to express how the different seasons were useful to everyday life long ago. It is significant because it shows how people were employed and citizens were provided with ... It seems paradoxical, but the main question of their discussion concerns existence or non existence of UFO itself, so many people is not sure that the very subject of their debate really exists. I share the opinion of those who do not believe in UFO saying that this phenomenon has not been scientifically proved, and everything its adherents operates is conjecture and fantasy, and disconnected stories of those who allegedly have seen UFO are far from scientific explanation of the event. Some scientists and psychologists specialized in the study of past life memories in children, and carefully studied the use of interviews with witnesses as the main method of researching these cases, deny the true nature of such evidences. Taking into account the psychological explanation of this problem, it is possible to summarize that many of the persons who witnesses UFO live in the world of dreams and have some psychological problems, and the desire to be an extraordinary one push them to believe that witnessed UFO (Thompson, 2005). In reality, many scientists were skeptical of both UFOs and of alien life in general; they contended that interstellar travel would be easy for advanced civilizations, so the lack of overt contact disproved alien existence. Yet most UFO opponents do believe alien life exists out in the universe, just not here. So they defend the near impossibility of interstellar travel, which contradicts a considerable portion of the scientific community (Thompson, 1990). This fact allows reject evidence that would otherwise confirm the presence of a solid object under intelligent control with propulsion irreproducible by human technology (Thompson, 1990). Retail manufactures often use oil to make plastics or fertilizers found at your local Walmart. If they aren t able to pass along the cost increase, then retailers face an adverse impact on margins, subsequently hurting stock prices. Through works such as ChrГ©tien de Troyes s Lancelot, Guilaume de Lorris s Roman de la Rose, and Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde, courtly love has evolved from an adventurous race towards love into one of the most important literary influences in Western culture ( Courtly Love ). While the ideals of courtly love were highly accepted and almost idealized in medieval society, the origin of these ideals remains a mystery because the very definition of courtly love is debated among modern and ancient literary scholars (Wollock 32). Since courtly love is not specifically defined, it exists in many spectrums. Gaston Paris, a French writer and scholar, suggests a worldly idea of courtly love with little attention given to morals. He defined courtly love by the lover s worship of an idealized lady based on sexual attraction and desire. Being a controversial idea, an opposite idea of courtly love also exists. C.S. His summation of courtly love includes Humility, Courtesy, Adultery, and the Religion of Love. It is possible that Shakespeare might have been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around 1200, it is more likely that a subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare s pen into Horatio s intellect. With a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth move in their orbits and how those movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have equated this with motions and circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to perform a double duty. To a certain extent, when an event is unexpected, the magnitude of abnormal performance is a measure of the impact of that type of event on the wealth of a firm s shareholders (Brown and Warner, 1980). To begin with, in this paper, we assume the impact is unbiased, which means this market is efficient. In an efficient market, the market price should be an unbiased estimate of the true value of the stock. However, market efficiency does not require the price to be completely matched with true value. Due to randomness, the price can either be under estimated or over estimated at any point of time. When there is an announcement, the changing of prices related to the announcement does not mean the market is inefficient. Martingale property theory assumes that knowledge of past events cannot help to predict future winning s stock price. Only when this condition is satisfied, then the market is a fair game. There are three versions of efficient market hypothesis: weak form efficiency (contains all past price information), semi strong efficiency (contains all public information), and strong efficiency (contains all public and insider information). • 48. Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer Historical Background What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure. It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture. Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being.
