Introduction
This Atlas is a description of the fields, discoveries and the most
promising prospects identified to date in the Republic of Sakha
(Yakutia), southern East Siberia. All the fields, discoveries and
prospects presented in this volume of the Atlas are all confined to the
Pribaykalskiy Petroleum Basin.
Hydrocarbon Reserves
At the end of 2009, hydrocarbon reserves of the Republic of Sakha
(Yakutia) amounted to: 1302.7 Bm3
(46 Tcf) and 1208.9 Bm3
(42.7 Tcf) of
C1 and C2 natural gas reserves, respectively; 248.0 Mt (1.9 Bbbl) of C1
(recoverable) oil developed and 188.1 Mt (1.4 Bbbl) of C2 (recoverable)
oil preliminarily estimated.
If the current rate of local consumption (approximately 1650 Mm3
(58
Bcf) of gas and 0.2 Mt of oil per year (1.5 Mbbl) remains the same, the
gas will last 1500 years and the oil, more than 2000 years.

Structural map example
The total С1 + С2 gas reserves in the subsurface of the areas in Yakutia
and Irkutsk Oblast in the immediate proximity to the route of the East
Siberia – Pacific Ocean (ESPO) pipeline amount to as much as 113,385
Bm3
(4000 Tcf).
The south of the Siberian Platform may very well prove to be rich in
hydrocarbons, as within its limits occur vast hydrocarbon kitchens
associated with paleorift systems, various types of reservoirs, seals and
traps and local anticlinal structures in the platform’s sedimentary cover.
Therefore, the hydrocarbon reserves proven to this date are believed
to be great enough to enable implementation of large-scale oil and
gas production and transportation projects. See map for the fields and

The East Siberia Pacific Ocean Pipeline System (ESPO)
The ESPO is being laid to connect the oil producing fields in West and East Siberia to the sea ports in Russia’s Primorskiy Kray and thus, to enable
Russia to ship its oil to markets in the USA and the Asia-Pacific Region. The planned total length of the ESPO Pipeline is 4188 km. The pipeline is to be
operated by Russia’s state-owned Transneft company.
The ESPO pipeline “will unlock significant oil reserves in East Siberia and the eastern flank of the West Siberian Basin” (Sobornov et al., 2007). “It is
also believed that East Siberia has the potential to become one of the main hydrocarbon production centres of the eastern Russia and Asian-Pacific
regions and that closer to year 2025 a delivery of East Siberia oil should completely replace the West Siberia oil supply” (Varlamov et al., 2007).
