Textual analysis of ‘The Kill’
Strengths
       Conventional
      - Low key lighting
      - Fade in & fade out
          shots
      - Quick cuts
      - A few short screen time
      - Dialogue ‘is anyone
          there’ on black screen
          and the girl got
          kidnapped instantly
      - Mise-en-scene e.g.
          weapons
Weaknesses
 Lighting is too ‘low-key’
- Most of the shots especially at
the beginning, you can only see
    pale images

 Screen time is overly short
- At the beginning, the black
screen after each short shot is
    much longer than the actual
    shots that tells the
    story, audience may
    immediately get bored from the
    start.
- This trailer is mainly edited with
continuous fade in and fade out
    shots with very short screen
time. Again, you can barely see
what’s going on in each shot.
 Voiceover is too gentle in
    terms of a horror film

 Non-cohesive
- Throughout the trailer, the
    lighting has been very low-
    key from the beginning, but
    towards the end the lighting
    gets back to normal colour
- The last shot of the
    readdressing of film name is
    relatively over-colorful which
    is very unconventional as
    the trailer has always been
    showing conventional
    lighting from the start
Things I will take forward
 Fade in & fade out shots at the beginning
or at the end to create enigma
 Low key lighting as it is a convention of
    horror genre
 May be shots with short screen time but
    not many
