What have you learned
from your audience
feedback?
Evaluation Task: Question 3
 The feedback and comments gained from initial short film was one of my colleague pointed out how there
was a jump cut in the bedroom scene, where Diana was reading the Bible book on her hand and then a few
seconds later, the scene jumps into Diana being on her bed drinking. This mistake will confuse the audiences
when they watch it as it does not flow naturally; it will appear out of place and loses its narrative of the story.
 My mentor had stated that there was a prop of a fake blood included in the toilet scene, where Diana went
inside the loo to pee. This is a mistake as I had forgotten to remove the prop when we were shooting the toilet
scene.
 Also, she stated that the extreme close up shot of the phone appear shaky and too fast to read the message as
the audiences won’t be able to keep up with it by reading the message fast. She suggested to re-shoot the
scene again maintaining to focus clearly on the phone and not shake the DSLR camera used so it will be shot
nice and steady.
 My mentor noticed that there was a previous message where it reads, “Karma taste sweet doesn’t it!” on the
phone during the first few scenes at the beginning as by then, Diana could not have yet received any
messages after the locker scene. This was quite difficult to spot as I did not even notice it, so it was crucial
comment to take action upon on.
 She then suggested how we should re-shoot this scene as well, so I could get rid of the previous message that
was not supposed to appear before.
 On the other hand, some of he colleagues during focus group said that they liked the idea of panning shot in
the park scene where Diana & Priscilla are a feet away from each other in order to show tension between the
two main characters.
 Also, almost half of the focus group/class has said that they like the use of the flashback scene being
composes in black and white as well as the sound used in that specific scene as they were taken aback as well
as impressed by how effective and quite thrilling it appears for a short horror film.
Feedback gained from Focus group
(Initial Short Film)
 One of my peers liked how the layout structure of the film poster appear as its
clear and easy to understand the context such as, the caption, sub head lines, main
title and many more.
 However, she stated that I could add the 15 rated logo at the bottom of the poster
so it will warn parents of children that it is not appropriate for them to watch the
short horror film. As well as adding the use of production that helped produced
the short film and so on.
 Another one of my peers has told me that the titles placed at the bottom of the
poster should be in red compared to white in order to fit in the colour scheme
(house style) of the short film, which was red, black and white.
 The use of colour red would refer to sin and anger. This will signify the narrative
point of the short horror/thriller film.
Feedback gained (Initial Short Film
Poster)
 My mentor has suggested that we should place the star rating to the left
hand side of the page, rather than placing it on the right hand side as she
said it was common to add the star rating on the first page below a still
photo in other film reviews that are horror or thriller based.
 In this case, I have placed the star rating on the left hand side of the page
as told which links back to our case studies, the star rating was commonly
positioned on the first page, below the still photo towards the audiences.
 Also, my mentor mentioned how we need to change the style and context
of the journalism as it needs to re-draft again as some of the context were
quite difficult to read as some context did not make sense.
 In this case, I have re-drafted the journalism and included the producer’s
section in order to get the inside gossip of what goes on behind the scene
whilst producing the short horror/thriller film.
Feedback gained (Initial Film Review)
 My mentor stated that she liked the idea of how the lighting was used as it gives a
dramatic effect of fear towards the audiences as well as the expression and body
language of the ghost.
 However, she suggested how next time- we should use and explore more on getting
the right exposure of lighting and by this, she meant how the representation of the film
poster image is not clear because you can’t see the ghost head as it blended with the
dark grey and black background and the use of lighting at the top was not getting a lot
of exposure of light.
 I will make sure on my next production that I will explore with lighting a bit more in
order to present the features that I want the audiences to see and also, being able to
make the photo of the poster appear more effective and captivating by maintaining
different posture for the ghost to do, to make it haunting more.
 Also, my mentor liked how the colour scheme is portrayed effectively, which it was
red, white and black as it goes well with the genre of horror/thriller for our short film.
 My mentor stated how she liked the layout structure of the film poster as it appear
knowledgeable and clear as any young teenagers as well as elder audiences are able to
read it without having any trouble understanding it.
Feedback gained (Final Short Film Poster)
 My mentor has stated that she liked how effective the still images chosen to feature onto our final
film review as they were appealing and captivating; as they reach out for possible horror or thriller
fans.
 However, she said that the journalism context for our film review should sound more enthusiastic
and haunting as it is mostly entertaining once you read the context, it is not writing about the
horror/thriller film from an audience point of view as it is mostly aiming at what goes on behind
the scene. This is not appropriate as next time, I should include more opinions from an audience
and being able to write in first person in order to persuade the audiences to watch the film based
on an individual’s opinion; persuading someone that the film is thrilling and nerve racking.
 Some of the feedback I received from my peers who are 16 years and older stated that the font style
used as it appear appealing and easy to read for elder audiences.
 Also, colleagues during class stated that the film review would improvise by using a full page
image of the ghost as it will attract younger audiences in a they often feel thrilled and shocked by
focusing more on the image rather than having to read a lot of context for a film review.
 Sometimes using a full on effective image can give a thousand words and explanation towards the
audiences so I would focus more on the use of imagery to attract attract more younger audiences.
Feedback gained (Final Film Review)
 Many of my peers that I have personally asked to watch our videos stated that the
final version of our short film appear scary and quite frightening. To be more
specific, most of them like the use of sound as well as some of the camera shots
e.g. shot reverse shot, as I was told the park scene made them jump and feel
haunting at the same time.
 Also, some of my colleagues in class kept on stating how they like how the
flashback scene was presented in our short film because it clearly show that it was
a scene from the past to let the audience know what Diana and Priscilla
relationship is like before. As well as the use of diegetic sound which was a voice
over, an echoic sound of our own hysterical laughs.
 This is common to see as compared to other films, they feature a witches laugh in
echoic effect in order to express a dramatic effect of fear and thrilling.
 Elder audiences, such as adults like some of my relatives have said that they have
understood the narrative part of the story as they know the information that they
needed to know. However, they did not like the way some of the scenes were shot
as it was out of focus and making the scenes blurry and not clear to watch for
elder audiences.
 This feature will be encountered on for future productions to always make sure
every scene is in focus as we do not want any unclear part of crucial scenes to be
added to the short film. It will look unprofessional.
Feedback gained (Final Short Film)

  • 2.  The feedback and comments gained from initial short film was one of my colleague pointed out how there was a jump cut in the bedroom scene, where Diana was reading the Bible book on her hand and then a few seconds later, the scene jumps into Diana being on her bed drinking. This mistake will confuse the audiences when they watch it as it does not flow naturally; it will appear out of place and loses its narrative of the story.  My mentor had stated that there was a prop of a fake blood included in the toilet scene, where Diana went inside the loo to pee. This is a mistake as I had forgotten to remove the prop when we were shooting the toilet scene.  Also, she stated that the extreme close up shot of the phone appear shaky and too fast to read the message as the audiences won’t be able to keep up with it by reading the message fast. She suggested to re-shoot the scene again maintaining to focus clearly on the phone and not shake the DSLR camera used so it will be shot nice and steady.  My mentor noticed that there was a previous message where it reads, “Karma taste sweet doesn’t it!” on the phone during the first few scenes at the beginning as by then, Diana could not have yet received any messages after the locker scene. This was quite difficult to spot as I did not even notice it, so it was crucial comment to take action upon on.  She then suggested how we should re-shoot this scene as well, so I could get rid of the previous message that was not supposed to appear before.  On the other hand, some of he colleagues during focus group said that they liked the idea of panning shot in the park scene where Diana & Priscilla are a feet away from each other in order to show tension between the two main characters.  Also, almost half of the focus group/class has said that they like the use of the flashback scene being composes in black and white as well as the sound used in that specific scene as they were taken aback as well as impressed by how effective and quite thrilling it appears for a short horror film. Feedback gained from Focus group (Initial Short Film)
  • 3.  One of my peers liked how the layout structure of the film poster appear as its clear and easy to understand the context such as, the caption, sub head lines, main title and many more.  However, she stated that I could add the 15 rated logo at the bottom of the poster so it will warn parents of children that it is not appropriate for them to watch the short horror film. As well as adding the use of production that helped produced the short film and so on.  Another one of my peers has told me that the titles placed at the bottom of the poster should be in red compared to white in order to fit in the colour scheme (house style) of the short film, which was red, black and white.  The use of colour red would refer to sin and anger. This will signify the narrative point of the short horror/thriller film. Feedback gained (Initial Short Film Poster)
  • 4.  My mentor has suggested that we should place the star rating to the left hand side of the page, rather than placing it on the right hand side as she said it was common to add the star rating on the first page below a still photo in other film reviews that are horror or thriller based.  In this case, I have placed the star rating on the left hand side of the page as told which links back to our case studies, the star rating was commonly positioned on the first page, below the still photo towards the audiences.  Also, my mentor mentioned how we need to change the style and context of the journalism as it needs to re-draft again as some of the context were quite difficult to read as some context did not make sense.  In this case, I have re-drafted the journalism and included the producer’s section in order to get the inside gossip of what goes on behind the scene whilst producing the short horror/thriller film. Feedback gained (Initial Film Review)
  • 5.  My mentor stated that she liked the idea of how the lighting was used as it gives a dramatic effect of fear towards the audiences as well as the expression and body language of the ghost.  However, she suggested how next time- we should use and explore more on getting the right exposure of lighting and by this, she meant how the representation of the film poster image is not clear because you can’t see the ghost head as it blended with the dark grey and black background and the use of lighting at the top was not getting a lot of exposure of light.  I will make sure on my next production that I will explore with lighting a bit more in order to present the features that I want the audiences to see and also, being able to make the photo of the poster appear more effective and captivating by maintaining different posture for the ghost to do, to make it haunting more.  Also, my mentor liked how the colour scheme is portrayed effectively, which it was red, white and black as it goes well with the genre of horror/thriller for our short film.  My mentor stated how she liked the layout structure of the film poster as it appear knowledgeable and clear as any young teenagers as well as elder audiences are able to read it without having any trouble understanding it. Feedback gained (Final Short Film Poster)
  • 6.  My mentor has stated that she liked how effective the still images chosen to feature onto our final film review as they were appealing and captivating; as they reach out for possible horror or thriller fans.  However, she said that the journalism context for our film review should sound more enthusiastic and haunting as it is mostly entertaining once you read the context, it is not writing about the horror/thriller film from an audience point of view as it is mostly aiming at what goes on behind the scene. This is not appropriate as next time, I should include more opinions from an audience and being able to write in first person in order to persuade the audiences to watch the film based on an individual’s opinion; persuading someone that the film is thrilling and nerve racking.  Some of the feedback I received from my peers who are 16 years and older stated that the font style used as it appear appealing and easy to read for elder audiences.  Also, colleagues during class stated that the film review would improvise by using a full page image of the ghost as it will attract younger audiences in a they often feel thrilled and shocked by focusing more on the image rather than having to read a lot of context for a film review.  Sometimes using a full on effective image can give a thousand words and explanation towards the audiences so I would focus more on the use of imagery to attract attract more younger audiences. Feedback gained (Final Film Review)
  • 7.  Many of my peers that I have personally asked to watch our videos stated that the final version of our short film appear scary and quite frightening. To be more specific, most of them like the use of sound as well as some of the camera shots e.g. shot reverse shot, as I was told the park scene made them jump and feel haunting at the same time.  Also, some of my colleagues in class kept on stating how they like how the flashback scene was presented in our short film because it clearly show that it was a scene from the past to let the audience know what Diana and Priscilla relationship is like before. As well as the use of diegetic sound which was a voice over, an echoic sound of our own hysterical laughs.  This is common to see as compared to other films, they feature a witches laugh in echoic effect in order to express a dramatic effect of fear and thrilling.  Elder audiences, such as adults like some of my relatives have said that they have understood the narrative part of the story as they know the information that they needed to know. However, they did not like the way some of the scenes were shot as it was out of focus and making the scenes blurry and not clear to watch for elder audiences.  This feature will be encountered on for future productions to always make sure every scene is in focus as we do not want any unclear part of crucial scenes to be added to the short film. It will look unprofessional. Feedback gained (Final Short Film)
