Technology Today Essay
Writing an essay on the subject of technology today can be both exhilarating and daunting. On
one hand, the rapid advancements and ubiquitous presence of technology offer a plethora of
fascinating angles to explore and discuss. On the other hand, the sheer breadth and complexity
of the topic can feel overwhelming, making it challenging to pinpoint a specific focus or thesis.
One of the primary difficulties lies in striking the right balance between breadth and depth. The
realm of technology encompasses a vast array of subtopics, from artificial intelligence and
biotechnology to cybersecurity and social media. Deciding which aspects to delve into and how
to integrate them cohesively into an essay can be a formidable task. Additionally, technology is a
rapidly evolving field, with new innovations and debates emerging constantly. This necessitates
staying abreast of the latest developments and ensuring that the essay remains relevant and up-
to-date.
Furthermore, navigating the nuanced ethical, social, and environmental implications of
technology poses another layer of complexity. Addressing questions of privacy, equity, and
sustainability requires careful consideration and critical analysis. Moreover, grappling with the
interplay between technological progress and human society demands a nuanced understanding
of both technological trends and societal dynamics.
Crafting a compelling and insightful essay on technology today also requires adept research skills
and the ability to sift through a deluge of information. Sorting credible sources from
misinformation and discerning reliable data from biased narratives are essential tasks in
constructing a well-informed argument. Moreover, synthesizing diverse perspectives and
weaving them into a coherent narrative demands intellectual rigor and analytical acumen.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of technology today presents numerous challenges,
from navigating its vast scope to grappling with its multifaceted implications. However, with
careful deliberation, diligent research, and critical thinking, it is possible to construct a thought-
provoking and illuminating exploration of this ever-evolving phenomenon.

Voice Acting Group
Darkness and coldness grabbed that desolate, almost clichГ© closet room, not
quite stealing away the blissful glee surrounding everyone s stature. We had
prepared this tiny gathering for weeks, and now the first day was looming over
our heads. Each member thirty minutes late, they filed into the tiny, but proud
voice chat server that the moderators were so hung over about. The ten of us are a
voice acting group. I was and am their leader, the person with the clever hairbrained
scheme to summon us all in one place, and I was the most nervous after all. What
if only five of us showed up? What if everyone forgot it was today? What if I
accidently said it was next month? To answer my almost certain demise, a friendly
voice joined the call. We called him Stick. He had been the third person we asked,
with a calm and collected voice, the man didn t seem like one for being three main
roles on the team, but Stick had the power to move mountains with his thunderous
call. He was an instant addition to the team, being one of the... Show more content on

A few weeks after we first all got together, my grandfather died, causing a chain
reaction in the family. I was always taught to be the strong one, as I was going to be
needed in the future to be everyone s rock, to make them happy in their times of
need. Everyone always saw me as the unemotional one, I never cried, or got
depressed. I would usually just sleep it off. When a family is broken apart by
death, it changes a person. If everyone falls on me for help and assistance, who was
I going to fall back to? I then remembered my friends, the ones who would stay by
my side no matter what. I fell back to them and explained everything. They were
there when I needed them most. They have changed me so much over the summer.
I have become more social with people, and I have grown more as a person because
of them. If it wasn t for my friend group, I would have never found my
Asimov s Three Laws
In Asimov s fictional universe, the Three Laws of Robotics are built most deeply
into a robot s positronic brain(Asimov 37) in order for robots not to cause harm to
humans or to other robots. They are not mere suggestions or guidelines they are
embedded into the brain that governs their behavior. Some may think that the
Three Laws as software; that they are just programmed into the robot s brain. You
could program the Laws and have a good robot or not program the Laws and have
an evil robot. In Little Lost Robot, Calvin says if you modify the Three Laws, you
would be left with complete instability, with no non imaginary solutions to the
positronic Field Equations (Asimov 119). The Laws aren t just programs; they are a
necessary part of how you build a positronic brain. Calvin says in Evidence that...

As we see in the short story Robbie, the robot causes Gloria emotional harm when
he leaves. Some may not believe that causing emotional harm is what Asimov
considered harm when constructing the Laws, but indeed Robbie did cause her
harm. Asimov s Three Laws of Robotics could also be seen as self contradictory. In
the story Liar! Dr. Susan Calvin develops a crush on a co worker and asks Herbie
to find out if her feelings are reciprocated. It turns out they aren t but Herbie lies,
reasoning that the truth might upset Calvin, and allow her to come to harm.
Additionally, In Reason Cutie disobeys orders (which is against the Second Law)
but mostly in order to uphold the First Law. In this short story, we can see that the
Laws can almost contradict themselves in a way. Cutie keeps Powell and Donovan
away from the controls during the electron storm (even though he was told to stop)
because he believed that humans are inferior and that he could do the job better in
order to protect their
The Unreliable Narrator In Ford s The Good Soldier
The subject of The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford is good people. The theme
of the novel is that truly good people do not exist; any who claim to be are hiding
sordid motives and problematic passions behind the façade of being a good person.
Literary forms that support this theme are point of view, tone, characterization, and
irony.
The point of view The Good Soldier is told from the limited first person perspective
of John Dowell, who is an unreliable narrator. Backpack Literature describes an
unreliable narrator as a narrator who intentionally or unintentionally relates events in
a subjective or distorted manner (Kennedy 60). As a reader, it is difficult to decipher
whether Dowell is hopelessly naive and socially inept or a master manipulator, ...

The insincerity stems primarily from the unreliable nature of the narrator and the
impassivity from the casual conveyance of the story and the narrator s revelations.
Although the subtitle claims it to be A Tale of Passion, the tone of the novel lacks
empathy and passion from the storytelling. Dowell uses hyperbole and attempts to
play up hysterics to no avail. The bland, impassive narration of otherwise dramatic
events and characters create a dichotomy, which gives the tale a sarcastic attitude.
This is used when Dowell is attempting to show Captain Ashburnham in a good light,
but instead reveals his infidelities and naГЇve

Unlike store image which refers to functional properties of a retail store including
value of money, selection of product and service s quality, store personality is a
mental representation of a retail store on dimensions that generally describe
personality of an individual. There are five dimensions comprised a retail store s
personality such as sophistication, solidity, genuineness, enthusiasm and
unpleasantness (d Astous Levesque, 2003).
Once store image is accepted by shoppers, store personality is important in
consumers buying behavior as the buying decision made depends on their
experiences of such personality factors as architecture, color design, music,
advertising, sale personnel etc (Martineu, 1958). Colors and designs of a retail store
which can capture customers eyes and attention firstly, music played in store which
is highly successful in catching people attention and the way items displayed in the
store, etc, create pleasant feeling and emotion in customers while walking in the
store. Sale personnel, furthermore, play a vital role in shaping customers mental
representation of a retail store (Martineau, 1985). Through those factors, a retail
store also creates its own personality which then will be perceived by shoppers. As a
result, customers might perceive store s personality in either positive that they like
store personality or they achieved unfavourable experiences in the store. People, who

Classical, Baroque, and Romantic Music Influence on Modern Genres
The Classical, Romantic and Baroque eras all influenced modern genres now a day.
They are the foundation of all music. There is no way that music has no single
element of earlier music. It is sure that modern music is the mixture of earlier music

It first public performance on April 21, 1918 in Petrograd, conducted by Prokofiev

Form and style of Sergei Prokofiev symphony No. 1 in D major
The symphony has four movements 1.Allegro; 2.Larghetto ; 3.Gavotta: Non troppo
allegro; 4.Finale: Molto vivace, but the piece only last around 15 minutes. The
symphony was considered as one of the first neoclassical compositions. Prokofiev
was attempted to write in the style of Joseph Haydn in this classical symphony. As
we can see that the elements of the old and the new styles are mixed together, and
became a new piece with galant style , simple but elegance.
Haydn s style of Music in Prokofiev s Symphony
Prokofiev imitated Haydn style of music in his piece shows that the Baroque period
is affecting the music after 1950. The main characteristic of Haydn s music is a large
piece with short and simple motifs, with standard accompanying figures. The music is
often quite formally concentrated, and the important musical events of a movement
can be played more quicker than normal. Which is one of the element from Prokofiev
s Symphony No.1 in the 1st and last movement. Another common compositional form
that Haydn normally uses is Sonata from, which is also used in Prokofiev s Symphony
Symbolism In Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American novelist and short story writer, and
awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Hemingway was born July 21,
1899, Cisero, Illinois, U.S., as the first son between Clarence and Grace
Hemingway, and died by suicide in his home on July 2, 1961, Ketchum, Idaho.
While reaching incomparable fame and success to other 20th century American
authors, Hemingway completed seven novels, six collections of short stories, and
two works of non fiction that were published during his lifetime. Hemingway grew
up in a sheltered environment, which pushed him to forgo college and move to
Kansas city and work as a reporter for the Star. Milan, Chicago, Paris, Spain,
Havana, China, and African were the destinations Hemingway found himself living
and corresponding in, as well as travelling to, over the course of his life. Hemingway
s descriptions and dialogue was simple, having rid of inessential language which left
his style objective and honest, and without verbosity, embellishments and
sentimentality. This style was influential for the proceeding two decades in American
and British literature, and Hemingway s use of style allowed him to complete works

His detailed references and use of symbolism can be drawn from the known fact
that Hemingway was an avid and enthusiastic hunter. In The Snows of Kilimanjaro
, a similar interpretation exist for, Old Man ash the Bridge. As the old man worries
about his pigeons he left among his cat and goats, which the narrator later refers to
as doves . In both The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and Hills Like White
Elephants , animals serve as a symbol and metaphor for a character of the story. For
example, in the former story, the buffalo that Francis shoots lays dead in a similar
fashion to Francis when he is also shot, only this time by his wife. It represents his

Sir Isaac Newton Essay examples
Born on Christmas Day, 1642, Isaac Newton spent his early childhood in a small
farm house in the hamlet of Woolsthope, sixty miles northwest of Cambridge and
one hundred miles from London. Newton s biological father died before he was
born and his mother remarried two years later to the Reverend Barnabas Smith.
Newton attended the King s School at Grantham at the age of twelve but was brought
home by his mother at nearly the age of sixteen to manage the estate. Luckily for
science, Newton showed little interest in farming. Newton s childhood acquaintances
remember him building a model windmill, ingenious water mill and many sun dials
(North 5 8). Newton, as an unsuccessful farmer, entered Trinity College at the age of
eighteen. He went... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This discovery enabled him to find the area under almost any algebraic curve in
mathematics and became known as the fundamental theorem of calculus (Westfall
42). Newton s book, Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica, often called
Principia for short, was completed by April 1686 and is one of the greatest pieces
of scientific literature ever written. Much credit is deserved to Edmond Halley as
his initial visit to Cambridge in the fall of 1684 reminded Newton of the work that
needed to be completed regarding celestial mechanics. This visit prompted the
writing of De motu and quickly lead to the writing of Principia (Cropper 30).
Although a groundbreaking piece of literature, the Principia is one of the most
incomprehensible books ever written. In about 500 pages and 340 complicated
diagrams, Newton proves his arguments with the use of formally presented
propositions with demonstrations. To understand the arguments explained in the
book, the reader must comprehend each proposition in sequence (Cropper 31).
Another problem that renders the Principia very difficult for the modern reader is
that Newton chose to write the book in ancient geometrical style. This style was
preferred by Newton not only because it represented the language of the ancients, but
also because the fluxion language (calculus) he developed had not yet been published.
In some aspects, the Principia, along with
What Is Plaguing Egyptian Culture
Egypt is easily the most populated country in the Arab world boasting an impressive
82 million, living almost exclusively in three separate regions. Within this massive
population there is a surprising little amount of religious diversity in this country,
having over 90% of the population affiliating with the Muslim faith. This small yet
densely populated country has many much more beneath its services, engulfing its
government as well as its people.
(8) Racism is ingrained into the very genome of mankind, it effects the people of the
world with hate or ignorance, and it is this combination that is plaguing the Egyptian
culture. Egyptians are a very racist culture and they are blissfully unaware of this.
The cause however is due to the hate they have received throughout the years. Even
the Egyptian leaders are not immune to being discriminated against. In 2013

With high mortality rates, and police brutality focused on the younger population it is
a surprise to see the age of adult hood staying where it is at. (7) This social unrest
comes from the dictator ship caused by the three generals that have been ruling the
people of Egypt. The revolutions in 2011 were made to end this, and sadly it did not
succeed, although the generals had stepped down from power the military still

unfair advantage that left the people of Egypt without a voice, this needed to end.

House On Mango Street Analysis
(hook) Written by Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street is a beautiful
coming of age story from the perspective of a little Latina girl named Esperanza
Cordero, who has just moved to a new house on Mango Street with her family. The
story follows Esperanza and the people she encounters during her time on Mango
Street as she struggles to find herself as an individual/her identity. During the story,
Esperanzadiscovers how her culture and social class affects her, how she relates to
the roles of womenin her community, and how to process her hopes and dreams as
she matures. These pieces eventually come together in order to help Esperanza
form her identity. The shabby old house on Mango Street is all that Esperanza and
her family can afford at the moment, as they are very poor. Esperanza is happy that
her family owns a house, but she often feels ashamed and embarrassed to live in it.
For example, one day, a nun that passes by asks Esperanza where she lives. When
she points to her house, the nun asks, You live there? The way she [says] it
[makes] [her] feel like nothing. There. [she] lived there. [She] [nods]. (1.10) The
way that the nun says the word there makes Esperanza feel very small, like there is
something wrong with the house. Not only does Esperanza feel judged by people in
her community, she also feels judged by outsiders. Those who don t know any better
come into our neighborhood scared. They think we re dangerous. They think we will
attack them with shiny

The Norman Conquest was a significant event in British history. William Duke of
Normandy s invasion in 1066 resulted in the battle of Hastings, during which the
Saxon king Harold Godwinson was killed, possibly by an arrow in the eye. Following
one battle of Hastings, castles were used by William to take control of England. One
of the first castles was built at Pevensey, but the most famous castle was the Tower of

This changed when Elizabeth I appointed her cousin George Carey governor of the
Island. After his appointment as governor, Carey spent much time on the island,
writing pamphlets and memoranda on its dence. Renowned for his hospitality at
Carisbrooke Castle, he was unpopular with the local gentry, who complained of
misconduct and use of the title governor . He had a strong sense of his own
importance. He began by rebuilding the domestic buildings of the castle, which
had fallen into decay, to provide accommodation worthy of his status. The hall
block and St Peter s Chapel were radically changed with the insertion of an upper
floor. He brutally desecrated Isabella de Fortibus s chapel in the southeast corner of
the hall as he needed to increase accommodation and so built an upper floor in the
chapel, destroying its medieval detail. Adjoining the hall he added a new range,
known as Carey s building with 17 rooms and a long gallery. With the threat of
Spanish invasion Carey made some modest additions to the defences in 1587. In
the next invasion scare of 1596 7, however, he persuaded the queen and the local
gentry to pay for the creation of a major, modern artillery fort as Carisbrooke. This
took the form of a low, roughly rectangular rampart nearly a mile long, with five
bastions. These defences were completed in 1602, but were never used in action. In
March 1600 Carey fell ill and went to Bath. He resigned as

reminder of the horrific times the Holocaust brought to the European nations, and

dreaded era of the Holocaust. In this poem a victim of the Holocaust, a young girl,

elements throughout the poem and expresses her experience and opinion of the

poem because the devils on horseback refer to the soldiers on horses. I think this is
meaningful because of the the way the soldiers are described,

Airframe Systems Essay examples
P1 State three purposes of pneumatic supply system for a typical piston engine
powered light aircraft, and give the functions of the piston engine air compressor and
receiver, within the system.
An aircraft powered by a piston engine usually tends to have a pneumatic air supply
system. This allows the function of different systems on the aircraft that are essential
to the flight of the aircraft.
In a newer system the supply system will provide a vacuum of air for the gyro s, so
that the de icing boots on the leading edge of the wings can inflate, for example, the
boots on the jet stream wings inflate. The vacuum sometimes provides for some of
the flight controls. An example of these flight controls would be the auto pilot

Then passes into the water extractor. The extractors job is to remove all the

of the turbine at 0c, so a sensor checks the temperature to make sure that ice cannot
form. If it becomes too cold, hot air can be directed from the bleed air system
through a valve.
M1 The air supplied to the pneumatic systems of gas turbine powered aircraft, and
piston engine powered aircraft, is different. Explain how the pneumatic supply
systems differ for the two different aircraft types. Your answers must relate to typical
pressurised passenger or cargo aircraft systems.
The pneumatic systems on gas turbine powered aircraft are different from those that
are on aircraft that are powered by piston engines.
Larger aircraft depend more on pneumatic systems due to their increased flying
altitude and need a form of environmental control system. For example, air
conditioning. The air conditioning system provides a more suitable living
atmosphere pressure inside the cabin, by supplying oxygenated air to breathe. The
bleed air helps to pressurise the airframe of the aircraft at a high altitude.
Because the piston engine powered aircraft don t tend to fly at a high altitude, there
is no need for a large pneumatic supply system to power the climate control. This is
how the two types differ from each

1.What were the traditional 4 functions of mgmt developed in 1912 by Fayol? What
functions do you think are effective in the 21st century?
The traditional 4 functions of management by Fayol are; Planning, Organizing,
Leading, and Controlling. Planning is the step where an action plan is created based
on the organization and team goal, objectives are created and deadlines. Organizing is
the step where team roles, responsibilities and task are assigned. Leading is the step
where managers motivate, and encourage team members to achieve the objectives
and goals of the company. Effective leaders motivate and influence others to achieve
their work. Controlling is the step where managers measure the achievement of
objectives and goals set, and to ensuring that the organization is operating
successfully.
In the 21st Century, I believe that all the traditional 4 functions are essential for the
success of a company. Any function is less effective than the other one. In order to
have an effective management and leadership the 4 functions are essential to
accomplish the objectives and goals of the organization.

My Favorite Part Of Writing
Writing is not my favorite thing to do at all, I tend to get distracted but at the same
time I can not concentrate without them. Many of my of those distractions can be
friends, background music, cell phones or music. My question for everyone is can
distractions or the way you sit affect the way you write? For me I need movement
around me when I am writingit helps me stay focused, I can t stand the silence. My
writing process starts with me walking to the library after lunch. I tend to look for
the biggest tables because I like to have a big space to have my papers and books.
Also usually one of my friends joins me midway. After I am seated I take out my
Hp with a Г± and turn it on. While it is turning on I usually get on my phone and
look at my social media feed. Normally around me there are other students working
in groups and having conversations. Libraries were never my favorite environment
to do homework or write, this is because it is way too quiet. Just like Faris I enjoy
being around conversations and movement. The conversations and movement
helps me focus as well as inspire me. Most recently I discovered that the university
has certain floors where people are allowed to talk and be in groups. In those floors is

Changing Adolescent Attitudes Towards Stuttering...
The article Changing adolescent attitudes toward stuttering from the Journal of
Fluency Disorders analyzes the attitudes that high schoolers have towards stuttering
and stutterers. The purpose of this study was to stop the manifestation of the negative
stigmas/stereotypes that are usually associated with stutteringwhile also determining
whether or not these feelings could be improved among adolescents. A public
opinion survey was first distributed to two health classes at a local high school. They
were then given a live oral presentation done by someone who suffers from a stutter.
The same opinion poll was redistributed afterwards. In two other separate classes, the
same survey was given but instead they watched a video presentation about stuttering
which featured the same person from the presentation. After the video was displayed,
there was another short oral presentation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily Blunt is just one of many famous individuals who has been publicly open
about their own personal stuttering problems; a problem that the star had struggled
with from the age of 7 to 14. When recalling this event from her childhood, the
actress remembers particularly having trouble with her vowels especially at the
beginning of words (NPR). However, she was able to solve this problem after her
elementary school teacher realized that she spoke fluently whenever she did accents
and impressions. After this discovery, Blunt started to participate in theatre and
eventually overcame her stuttering problem. She says that if it weren t for her

This cost system treated most, sales, marketing, and administrative costs as fixed costs
or as a percentage of sales revenue. This simplistic approach was used to allocate
overhead costs. Indirect costs were manufacturing costs that were allocated to
products based on direct labor, or they were selling administrative costs that were
treated as period expenses and were unanalyzed. In this system if a customer sales
price exceeded the full manufacturing cost plus the allocation of SM A (sales,
marketing, and administrative costs) then the customer appeared to be profitable
when in fact the customer wasn t profitable at all.
DILEMMA:
In 1985 Carl Erik Ridderstrale became president he developed the Kanthal 90

current cost system it was assumed that all customers placed the same demand on
the resources of Kanthal, when in fact customers differed by service and demand.
This lead to orders representing hidden profits. An order that placed fewer demands
on the company s resources would be overcastted and appear to be profitable or less
profitable than it was. Or an order would appear to be more profitable than it was;

Technology For The Greater Good

Technology for the Greater Good Some say that technology is the evil that will
overcome humanity, others say it is something that will lead us to a new way of
thinking about the world. In the book Remix by Catherine Latterell, she writes three
assumptions about technology: Technologies are machines, technologies bring
progress or peril, and technology is neutral. These assumptions are what some
people make about the technology. In Latterell s book there was an article by
Langdon Winner who wrote Technology Somnambulism which was about how in
the modern world we are being controlled by technology, we change the way we
live because of technology. Now given the assumptions that Latterell gives,
technology can really be seen as something that is good for the world because it
can teach us how to be a better socializer, speeds up the process of doing things,
and allows a new kind of learning tool for future generations. A study at a
Dominican University of California was done, were they monitored teenagers
social cognitive effects of technology and had learned that texting will be used by
the left side of the brain which controls the skills for math and logic. Because of
texting the teenagers are working out their left side of the brain. Although texting
can be addicted to some teenagers, for others it is a way that they can identify.

It is hypothesized that snakes are capable of leaving pheromone trails for
themselves or their offspring to locate hibernacula because the hibernacula keep
them from freezing in the winter[cite conspecific trailing behavior of red sided

hibernacula.Snakes are often highly selective in the choice of sites for hibernation,
and suitable sites can potentially be a limiting resource(.Pine Snake (Pituophis
Ruthveni and Pituophis Melanoleucus Lodingi) Hibernacula D. C. Rudolph, R. R.
Schaefer, S. J. Burgdorf, M. Duran, and R. N. Conner) Snakes colonize together
and use hibernaculum to escape frigid winters (Macartney et al. 1989; Sexton et al.
1992) and are likely to overwinter to avoid freezing temperatures (Mathies T. and
Martin. J.D 2008) in order to regulate physiological processes after spring
emergence for basking (Gregory 1984). Given the benefits of hibernaculum, in the
off chance snakes do not locate hibernacula is it more like for that snake to run the
risk of not surviving. The high fidelity that snakes display towards specific
hibernacula suggests that hibernacula have unique characteristics which allow them
to be repeatedly relocated and features which may be critical in allowing overwinter
survival (Burger et al. 1988;
World War I Was An Atrocious Experience For All Involved
World War I was an atrocious experience for all involved. No one involved in this
global conflict was left insusceptible to its effects. Due to the magnitude of
devastation and loss of life caused by World War I, it went down in history as one
of the vilest wars ever to be fought. It was a brutal war from 1914 1918 which
affected all of Europe and the outlying areas. The military conflict that began the
World War Istarted as a local European war between Austria Hungary and Serbia. It
was transformed into a general European struggle by declaration of war against
Russia on August 1, 1914 and eventually became a global war involving thirty two
nations. Twenty eight of these nations, known as the Allies and the Associated
Powers, whose major belligerents included Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and
the United States, opposed the coalition known as the Central Powers, which
consisted of Germany, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire (Williamson and Van Wyk
2003). The immediate cause of the war between Austria Hungary and Serbia was the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria on June 28, 1914, at Sarajevo
in Bosnia by a Serb nationalist name Gavrilo Princip.
In the eyes of many Americans, the World War I had nothing to do with the United
States. Most Americans preferred remaining out of the conflict. President Woodrow
Wilson publicly and formally stated that the United States would follow a strict

Summary Of Phyllis Trible s Texts Of Terror
The book Texts of Terror describes the lives and defeats through the analyzation of
four different women from the Old Testament. These particular women are Hagar,
Tamar, the daughter of Jephthah, and the unnamed concubine in the book of Judges.
The author, Phyllis Trible, employs a theological perspective with a hermeneutical
feminist approach in evaluating these Biblical stories. Phyllis s literary criticism
approaches the scripture as an actual occurrence of catastrophic stories of these four
women. The feminist approach is used to grasp the culture and time of these
occurrences in relation to the disregard of women. The theological concept of
vulnerability is also addressed in the relation to the characters and in the viewpoint of
God.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hagar s story then centers on the favor and covenant of Abraham or even Sarai as his
mouthpiece in this particular text. The second story from Tamar includes three men
of royalty which include King David, Amnon, and Absalom. God s relationship to
Tamar portrays a much needed cleansing from being defiled from her leadership. The
third character, the Unnamed Woman, contained the triumphant characters of the
women s master/husband and a male guest that was staying at the house. The last
character of the daughter of Jephthah includes the characters of Jephthah in the
fulfillment of a personal vow. Now the relationship that God appears from the literary
feminism criticism, portrays a God that is completely stagnant to the valuable lives of
these women with no redemption available. On the other hand, the non vulnerable
characters seem to possess all the favor and blessing they could
Essay on Trojan War
Did the Trojan War occur?
The existence of a war in Troy is undeniable; however it is not the Trojan war of
Homer s Iliad. It is believed that Homer s account may have been based on a real
event therefore having some truth but due to the mythological nature of the source,
the unreliability of oral transmission and the exaggerated romantic theme, the account
is not a valid source for historians. Written evidence such as the Hittite records and
the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield, Blegen and
Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the
Iliad. Despite these links, there is only enough evidence to support the existence of a
war in Troy but not explicitly Homer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heinrich Schliemann was one of the first archaeologists who discovered the site
based on geological descriptions in Homer s Iliad. Through the excavation of the
site, Schliemann uncovered nine major layers on the mound and concluded that
level 2 was Homer s Troy. Archaeologists who came later criticised Schliemann s
amateurish excavation methods and concluded that level two was too early to be
the Homeric Troy. Despite Schliemann s destruction and false claims of the site, his
discovery of Hissarlik proved that there is some truth to Homer s account and
deserves some credit for setting the foundation for archaeologists such as Blegen,
Dorpfield and Korfmann. Schliemann s discovery of the site proved that there is no
doubt Troy existed and that the city s destruction was definite.
Wilhelm Dorpfield was one of many archaeologists who began excavations and
studies at Hissarlik. Level VI was the level that Dorpfield believes is the legendary
Troy. He argued that Level VI fitted Homer s description as being a grand city
surrounded by high limestone walls. However, there was no evidence of Greek
camps outside the walls of the city that supported Homer s account of a ten year
siege, thus leading us to conclude that Level VIIa must ve been the Homeric Troy.
Layers of charcoal uncovered by Korfmann that dated to roughly 1250 BC, the
approximate end of Homer s Troy is evidence of fire
Afroban Explosion Research Paper
Afro Cuban Explosion Jazz music originated in New Orleans around the beginning of
the 20th century, developing through various increasingly complex styles. These

How Did The Economic Revolution Affect Ancient China
The medieval Chinese economic revolution impacted China in many ways. The
Chinese were able to import and export goods at an increasing rate. There were
advances in China s economy. The demand and the amount of goods produced
increased. The productions of goods were affected by the migration to different areas.
It also brought about variations in everyday life in the population and how they
interacted with each other.
During the revolution, trade adapted and soared to great heights. Farmers had
stopped producing just for themselves, but producing surplus and selling the surplus
to the market. In return, they bought things such as tea, wine, and oil. When they
needed to ship commercial crops that they started to grow, the coastal shipping and
inland shipping industries were created. Marco polo claimed to see no less than
fifteen thousand vessels at a single port. Because of the booming shipping industry,
a device used to tell direction was invented. Its name was the compass. It originally
was a needle floating in water and was attached to a stem. It eventually was
updated and put in a case with a glass top for use on ships. The first known use of
the compass was around 1119. Foreign trade also flourished in this period. In 1225
the superintendent of customs wrote his account of what foreign places traders had
visited. It included sketches of important trade cities. He also listed some important
goods to come out of important cities. He also talked of how Chinese merchants
The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin
In James Baldwin s collection of essays, The Fire Next Time, he discusses a range
of topics stemming from the ultimate point that despite current implications and
present maltreatment of African Americans in America, White Americans are not
the only ones who contribute to the inferiority of Blacks. It is a collective action
problem that has to be realized on both sides of this issue. In order for the nation to
move on as a whole and get somewhere past this, Blacks and Whites have to work
together in an attempt to realize that the past is a determinant of the future and
shapes who we are as a people, and in order for equality to transform from a state of
mind to a physical concept practiced by all, African Americans have to first accept
their past in order to look to the future. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, [n]o one can
make you feel inferior without your consent and these words ring true in reference
to the oppression of African Americans by White Americans as displayed in The
Fire Next Time. To grasp this concept of accepting the past to look to the future,
Baldwin notifies African Americans of their current place in the world. Baldwin s
uncle first states that [they] were born where [they] were born and faced what [they]
faced the future they faced because [they] were black and for no other reason. (7)
Because of this, their intelligence, among other things, was limited and Blacks were
assumed to be inferior in the eyes of White Americans, and the virtues preached
Unit 9 And Systems Theory And Social Construction
Unit 9 Cybernetics and Social Construction Cybernetics/systems theory and social
constructionism are two closely related philosophical traditions that inform family
therapy approaches (Gehart, p. 37, 2014). They are the foundation to the various
family therapy models used by Marriage and Family Therapist. All forms of family
therapy, in one way or another has been influenced by one of these two theories.
More traditional forms of therapy such as MRI, Milan and Bowen s intergenerational
and psychoanalytic therapy have been influenced by cybernetics/systems theory.
Newer therapies such as narrative, collaborative and solution based therapies have
been influenced by social constructionist theory (Gehart, 2014).

/ participant, creating interdependence between the observer and the observed; this
is necessary to create the holistic perspective on which cybernetic/systems theory is
built. The worldview of Marriage and Family Therapist centers on the notions of
recursion reciprocity, and shared responsibility. Two entities exists in the context of
a relationship in which each influences the other and both are equally cause and
effect of each other s behavior (Becvar Becvar, p. 8, 2013), this known as circular
causality. Patterns form and I order to understand the problems and events of the
relationship, MFT s need to look at what is going on rather than asking why it is
happening.
A MFT s perspective is holistic, and our focus is on the processes the context that
give meaning to issues and events instead of to the individuals, issues, or events in
isolation (Becvar Becvar, p. 9, 2013). A MFT s focus is also on current events. They
do not look to events of the past for the archetype of the source of the issue. Family
systems theory is focused on the dynamics of the family that deal with the rolls of
each family member, the balance of power, structures, communication patterns, and
boundaries (Rothbaum, Rosen, Ujiie, Uchida, 2002).

Meaning Of Heroism
Heroes can be found everywhere in the world. Some can be found in real life, such
as Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United Sates who led the Union
in the war against slavery, and successfully abolished. Others are found stories
known by many people, such as Cinderella, who overcame challenges with a kind
heart and good deeds. Although heroes are found all over the world in both real life
and imagination, what about them makes them heroic? One individual named Oliver
Stone, believes that being a heroinvolves becoming a better person and that the traits
of a hero are seen everywhere, all the time, unnoticed. Another person named Dr.
Phineas D. Gurley implies that heroism is shown by a one s deeds and actions.
Altogether,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many believe the misconception that if a person is famous, then they are a hero.
However, this concept is found to be false if people took a closer at the person. For
example, Abraham Lincoln, as previously stated, was the sixteenth president of the
United States for leading the Union to victory against the legality of slavery. In a
sermon, Dr. Phineas D. Gurley, a former pastor of the New York Avenue
Presbyterian Church and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, stated, He is dead; but the
memory of his virtues, of his wise and patriotic counsels and labors, of his calm
and steady faith in God lives, is precious, and will be a power for good in the
country quite down to the end of time (Gurley, 1865). The phrase, power for good
in the country quite down to the end of time and the fact that Abraham Lincoln
was a president of the U.S., influences people to assume that being famous means
that you are a hero. However, a closer look at the quote shows that the memory of
his virtues and his wise and patriotic counsels and labors is what led to Lincoln
being deemed a hero. The quote does not specify that being the president of the
U.S. was what made Lincoln a hero. Thus, being a hero does not mean being famous
or being well known and is, on the contrary, about what a person does. While the
traits and qualities of a hero are well distinguished from ones that are not,
Rappaccini s Daughter
Rappaccini s Daughter Ambiguous
Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter is a Gothic romance and a thwarted, almost
allegory with a plethora of ambiguous meanings. As Hawthorne identifies in the
previous quote, this story is a blatant parallel towards the story of Original Sin. The
issue, then, lies in the representation. Who is playing Adam and Eve? Who is Satan
and who is God? At first glance it is easy to assume that the two love birds, Giovanni
and Beatrice, are Adam and Eve; while Beatrice s black cloaked father is Satan, and
God is either an omniscient overseer, represented in nature, or absent from the story
all together. However, Hawthorne begins the endless possibilities of role assignments
by suggesting that Beatrice s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rappaccini s Daughter begs to be an allegory of the fall story but will never
succeed. Instead, it is a sort of perverse reenactment where the actors and actress
could not decide on their roles and properly get into character . Rappaccini is God
and Satan/serpent. As God, he has created an immaculate garden and a daughter of
the like. Only, his quasi Eden is filled with the deadliest flowers which nurture his
poisonous daughter. It is an evil mockery of beauty . Beatrice, as a sort of noble
savage, faces her demise as the result of his hideous and inhumane creation;
possibly the tragic result of a man trying to be God. Rappaccini is also Satan in his
sinister nature. He chooses experimentation and knowledge over life and has
created a deadly anti nature; a microcosm and it s heroine that can never be
acclimated to the natural world. In doing so, Rappaccini has chosen destruction
through creation where there is a complete void of love, only passion for his work
of science. The ideas of Rappaccini owning and creating the garden as God or having
innately evil intentions as the Devil are more suited towards his nature than
Hawthorne s insinuation of him as Adam.
In the garden of Eden, the serpent tempted Eve with the fruit of the tree of
knowledge; an apple, of which both Adam and Eve tasted. The garden has already

What is the philosophy of education? It is a set of ideas and beliefs that guides
teachers actions and provides a framework for thinking about educational issues.
(Kauchak and Eggen, 197) Teachers use philosophy everyday in their classrooms.
From the time the first student enters their room until the last student walks out,
philosophy is affecting the way the teacher runs his/her classroom and how they
interact with their students. There are four different types of educational
philosophies: Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, and Social

Lectures, questioning, practice and feedback are some of the teaching methods I
would use in my classroom. These follow the Essentialism philosophy. I believe that
consistence in a classroom is crucial but also you have to mix things up in order to
keep the students attention and keep them interested in the curriculum. On the other
hand, learning should not be all fun and games. Students will never take learning
seriously if there is not seriousness implanted in their learning experience. It is my
opinion classroom learning environments should be highly structured with strong
focuses on academic work as well as essential knowledge and skills. As I stated
before, a child should have just as much academic knowledge as they do knowledge
of how the world works around them. This follows both Essentialism as well as
Perennialism. Perennialism is an educational philosophy suggesting that nature is
constant and that schools should teach classic knowledge. (Kauchak and Eggen, 201)
Lastly, I feel that teachers should offer frequent objective and performance
assessments and feedback to their students. Students should be periodically assessed
on their work and given feedback and how they are doing. This is part of the
essentialism philosophy. I believe that assessing students and giving them feedback
helps the students as well as their parents know, without question, how the students in
doing, what their level of

Defining Socially Conscious Film Making Essay
DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS? HOW DO WE DEFINE SOCIALLY
CONSCIOUS FILMMAKING?
Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do
so years ago) whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this
on the basis of whether or not profits are made on a sustainable basis.
Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand
too many people willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too
little demand in comparison to what is produced.
Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by
lower barriers to entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever
changing media landscape. But given that we ... Show more content on

Are we exempt from the social responsibilities that our progressive films champion
because the ends justify the means? The system is not working. And while it may be
seemingly impossible to change, this does not absolve us of our responsibility to
critically examine a system that, like many others in our global economy, which can
be classist, ageist and exploitative. Let s look at the elephant in the room
constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery.
Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4
BritDoc Fund. I read the following in small print:
We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest
(please define) between ВЈ10,000 and ВЈ30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers
work to are very pared down. More often than not (though this varies from project to
project) this means you will be expected to put your time in for free or a nominal
sum until the deficit is raised.
The text continued: When the Foundation invests (there s word again see the text of
Dan Cogan s well intentioned but misguided Toronto FilmFestival speech in
IndieWire) in a film we fully come on board as Exec Producers.
Another funder, Chicken Egg, is also requesting Executive Producer credit on many
of the films they support, e.g., Pariah has Julie Parker Benello, Judith Helfand, Wendy
Ettinger listed as Executive Producers.

Essay on A Brief Biography of Billie G. Kanell
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
(King James Version). This verse from the Bible is perfectly displayed in the life
and death of Billie G. Kanell. To those who do not know his story, Private Kanell is
simply considered another small town boy who went off to fight in the war, as many
young men did during that time, and never came back. However, to those who know
his story, he is considered a very courageous and heroic young manwho touched the
lives of many others with his selfless sacrifice.
Billie Gene Kanell was born in the small town of Poplar Bluff, Missouri on June 21,
1931 to parents John and Iva Kanell. Kanell attended school in Poplar Bluff from

But, he did indeed pass the test and soon set off for Basic Training. It seemed like
the whole neighborhood came out to see him off at the train station the day he left,
and his sister Betty will always remember getting to ride on his shoulders one last
time before he left (Pruitt). Billie s father had given him a pearl revolver that he
took with him when he left that day (Thiele). Billie and his friend Jessie were sent
to Hawaii, where they went through Basic Training together and then went to
Japan. While in Japan, Billie was able to write a short letter home letting all his
loved ones know he was safe. It would be the last they heard from him. He was
supposed to attend a training school in Japan, but for some unknown reason was
sent to Korea instead. He wouldn t be in Korea very long at all before his strength
and courage would shine through and we would see what a true hero he was.
After a mere eleven days in Korea, Billie joined two other men named Mullen and
Rodriguez. Billie and the two other men were part of the 2th Infantry Division
(Pruitt). After being with these two men for only an hour, their outfit was sent out
five miles on patrol in front of the main lines to relieve another company. They
headed up to Hill 717, getting there at about 8 or 9 p.m. (Thiele). Positioned in a
machine gun bunker, the men began to get to know each other talking about their
different religious beliefs. Billie was a protestant while
Roberto Benigni s Film Life Is Beautiful
Roberto Benigni captures a tragic event and portrays it in the simplest and most
optimistic way in his film, Life is Beautiful. Guido, played by Benigni himself,
allows the audience to focus on the positives in the events that occur. As the main
character, his words and actions affect the other roles in the movie. Therefore, it is
safe to say that Guido s humorous personality lightens up the mood of Benigni s
touching film. Life is Beautiful, released in 1998 and directed by Roberto Benigni,
illustrates an important event in history the Holocaust. The film keeps its viewers
at a general state of happiness; while including scenes of romance, drama, and
comedy. Guido (Roberto Benigni) falls in love with the character, Dora (Nicoletta
Braschi) after having several encounters with her. Together, they continue their lives
and start a family with their young son, Joshua (Giorgio Cantarini). Unexpectedly,
Guido, Joshua, and Uncle Leo (Giustino Durano) board a train to another world a
concentration camp. To keep the story positive, Benigni creates a unique way for
Guido to explain the frightening place to his five year old son. He introduces what
s going on in their lives as a game, in which case the first person to obtain a... Show

of the situation. As the German soldier, or Nazi, sends the railroad car off, she
strictly demands for her to board it. During this chapter of the movie, the genres of
romance and drama are presented. Dora is so passionate about her family that she
risks this decision to be with them. At the same time, the scene shows drama because
the audience can generally anticipate what occurs next. The film brings unexpected
twists to retell the event of the
Duane Morris Case Analyses Essay
Duane Morris Case Analyses 1. What factors have led to Duane Morris s success?
What prompted their late 1990s growth spurt? 2. How should Duane Morris plan to
integrate their new acquisition? 3. What are the biggest risks faced by the firm in
the next 5 10 years? Duane Morris strategy evolved over time while leveraging its
history. The strategy was shaped by its environment, resources and leadership. The
degree of congruence between the people, the tasks, the informal and formal
organization was relatively high, which led to a successful growth and profitability. *

ancillary businesses and its success growth. The separation from Duane Morris,

wrong, it is not their client anyway bc 85% to 90% of the ancillary businesses
customers were not law firm clients. Also this business was not the same cyclicality

Fourteenth and fifteenth century Italians characterized the Renaissance as a new
golden age of intellectual achievement or rebirth of classical civilization. Not only
was the Renaissance a revival of intellect but also of art; Renaissance art made a
significant impact throughout Europe. Artistic masterpieces in sculpture, painting, and
architecture were created and had revolutionized the world of art. In the late fifteenth
century, wealthy individuals and families would sponsor artists to design self
portraits, or scenes depicting themselves and family members to immortalize
themselves and display their great wealth and power. Florence ... Show more content

indicate the clarity of though, and Minerva, on the right symbolising the sharpness of

shadows of irrationality and monstrosity away from the lucidity of philosophy. (128)
Many art historians found a musical harmony in the space composition of School of
Athens (Ponente 89). Nello Ponente refers to Pierre Francastel stating that to convey
this resonance of space, to make its infinite continuity perceptible in the harmony of
the proportional relationships, (each scene has a definite center and focal point of its
own, and in effect its proportional mean) Raphael turned for guidance to the foremost
master of space: Bramante (90). This same space composition is represented in his

Pest Control
Substantial Content
I.Importance of natural method of pest control
The problem with broad range conventional pesticides is that they not only kill the
bad bugs, but they rub out the good bugs, too. A garden without natural predators
means a world of insects gone wild. There s nothing left to keep pest levels in check.
In fact, chemicals can mean double trouble because although you wipe out the first
wave of pests, the second wave which is not the usual pest, but another insect
moving into the area can cause even greater losses than the insects you were trying
to get rid of in the first place. Another reason to go natural and use beneficials, is that
a greater number of insects are now showing resistance to chemical pesticides. For ...

Garlic: Mix four quarts water, two tablespoons garlic juice do not use garlic powder,
it will burn plants, 32 grams of diatomaceous earth and one teaspoon or rubbing
alcohol.
Effects: spray garlic pesticide on sweet potatoes to repel rabbits
Ground Coffee: Leftover coffee grounds make great ingredients to compost. They
work as natural pesticides and literally perk up ailing plants. Place the grounds into
the soil surrounding your plants. The acidity of the coffee is what keeps invaders at
bay.
Vegetable oil: If mildew, mold or fungus is a problem, heres a solution you can
spray right on the plant that makes a big difference in a very short time. Combine a
gallon of water, a tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Put
into a spray bottle and mist plants from top to bottom even in places where there are
no signs of a problem.
Dish Washing Liquid: If a fungus has invaded your plants, mix a few drops of
dishwashing liquid and water and wipe it down. You ll be surprised how quickly this
will rejuvenate sickly looking plants!
Egg: To get rid of snails and slugs in your garden, add crushed eggshells to your soil.
To them, its walking on glass, so snails and slugs will tend to avoid the area
entirely. If slugs are a continuing problem, a few pinches of salt will make quick
work of them.

Time consuming but very natural, this method consists of many things you can
physically do to control bugs and other pests. Picking grubs
The Survivor Of A Survivor
A plane crash, a shark attack, a shipwreck, or even cancer, are all types of life
threatening events. Majority of the population would agree that people who can
overcome experiencing one of these or a similar event is classified as a survivor.
In this case, a survivor would mean somebody who has experienced a near death
situation and overcame it. However, not everyone has faced one of these and yet is
still a survivor. A survivor is simply anyone who successfully copes with a hardship
better than the majority of the population would. At age nine, most kids are worried
about what their friends are doing after school, the next meal they are having, or
when a new video game is coming out. Jacob Mallard on the other hand, was more...

He began to provide for his family by making dinner, babysitting, helping his siblings

who is now a freshman in high school, told me, Jacob is always there for me whether
it s academic help, a girl problem, or athletic improvement. I look up to him and am
so glad to have him. Since he had to be the caretaker for the family he matured
much faster than the average child is expected to and is very responsible and
dependable despite his age and lack of parental guidance he has had growing up.
Although we are very similar in personality he far surpasses me in leadership. As a
junior, he was elected captain of his high school football team who ended up winning
state. This meant that even older and better players respected his leadership and
depended on him to do what was right for the team and lead them on and off the
field. One weekend, I went to watch him play against their cross town rivalry.
There was only 30 seconds left and they were losing by 5. He pulled his team into a
huddle and you could tell that they trusted him to choose a play and had full
confidence in him. Before they broke the huddle and lined up 20 yards from the
end zone, he took number 89 to the side, grabbed him by the shoulder, and spoke to
him. A few seconds later the ball flew into 89 s hands as he caught
Critical Analysis Of Allen Ginsberg s Howl
The Beat Generation is a literary movement during the 1950s that consisted of male
authors including the widely known Allen Ginsberg, who explored American culture
in their poems. The Beat Generation could be described as misogynistic and
patriarchal due to their exclusion of women and concerns confined to only male
outcasts. In Allen Ginsbergs 1956 Howl, he brings his audience s attention to male
outcasts in society. In her 2015 Howl , a critical response to Ginsberg s Howl , Amy
Newman explores the oppression outcasted women endure in a male dominated
culture through the allusions of an admired female poet, Ginsberg s original stanza
form, and utilizing diction to convey a woman s perspective antithetically to Allen
Ginsberg s original.
In Amy Newman s Howl , she alludes to Sylvia Plath, an American female poet, who
is acknowledged for her hardships as a outcasted female in the poetry world due to
her oppressive marriage. Newman illustrates Plath as, [a] star spangled lost in her
housebound Eden curse with orchards and a million gossipy daffodils, writing and
nursing and not on the lists... (Newman). In Allen Ginsberg s original Howl he
adverts to male poets he admires of his time, opposingly Newman emulates
Ginsberg s technique and alludes to a feminist iconic poet Sylvia Plath. Newman
implements a biblical allusion referencing The Garden of Eden to depict Plath as a
successful female poet who was metaphorically locked in her household; where a
woman s place

argument and the solution found.

  • 3. Voice Acting Group Darkness and coldness grabbed that desolate, almost clichГ© closet room, not quite stealing away the blissful glee surrounding everyone s stature. We had prepared this tiny gathering for weeks, and now the first day was looming over our heads. Each member thirty minutes late, they filed into the tiny, but proud voice chat server that the moderators were so hung over about. The ten of us are a voice acting group. I was and am their leader, the person with the clever hairbrained scheme to summon us all in one place, and I was the most nervous after all. What if only five of us showed up? What if everyone forgot it was today? What if I accidently said it was next month? To answer my almost certain demise, a friendly voice joined the call. We called him Stick. He had been the third person we asked, with a calm and collected voice, the man didn t seem like one for being three main roles on the team, but Stick had the power to move mountains with his thunderous call. A few weeks after we first all got together, my grandfather died, causing a chain reaction in the family. I was always taught to be the strong one, as I was going to be needed in the future to be everyone s rock, to make them happy in their times of need. Everyone always saw me as the unemotional one, I never cried, or got depressed. I would usually just sleep it off. When a family is broken apart by death, it changes a person. If everyone falls on me for help and assistance, who was I going to fall back to? I then remembered my friends, the ones who would stay by my side no matter what. I fell back to them and explained everything. They were there when I needed them most. They have changed me so much over the summer. I have become more social with people, and I have grown more as a person because of them. If it wasn t for my friend group, I would have never found my
  • 4. Asimov s Three Laws In Asimov s fictional universe, the Three Laws of Robotics are built most deeply into a robot s positronic brain(Asimov 37) in order for robots not to cause harm to humans or to other robots. They are not mere suggestions or guidelines they are embedded into the brain that governs their behavior. Some may think that the Three Laws as software; that they are just programmed into the robot s brain. You could program the Laws and have a good robot or not program the Laws and have an evil robot. In Little Lost Robot, Calvin says if you modify the Three Laws, you would be left with complete instability, with no non imaginary solutions to the positronic Field Equations (Asimov 119). The Laws aren t just programs; they are a necessary part of how you build a positronic brain. Calvin says in Evidence that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we see in the short story Robbie, the robot causes Gloria emotional harm when he leaves. Some may not believe that causing emotional harm is what Asimov considered harm when constructing the Laws, but indeed Robbie did cause her harm. Asimov s Three Laws of Robotics could also be seen as self contradictory. In the story Liar! Dr. Susan Calvin develops a crush on a co worker and asks Herbie to find out if her feelings are reciprocated. It turns out they aren t but Herbie lies, reasoning that the truth might upset Calvin, and allow her to come to harm. Additionally, In Reason Cutie disobeys orders (which is against the Second Law) but mostly in order to uphold the First Law. In this short story, we can see that the Laws can almost contradict themselves in a way. Cutie keeps Powell and Donovan away from the controls during the electron storm (even though he was told to stop) because he believed that humans are inferior and that he could do the job better in order to protect their
  • 5. The Unreliable Narrator In Ford s The Good Soldier The subject of The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford is good people. The theme of the novel is that truly good people do not exist; any who claim to be are hiding sordid motives and problematic passions behind the faГ§ade of being a good person. Literary forms that support this theme are point of view, tone, characterization, and irony. The point of view The Good Soldier is told from the limited first person perspective of John Dowell, who is an unreliable narrator. Backpack Literature describes an unreliable narrator as a narrator who intentionally or unintentionally relates events in a subjective or distorted manner (Kennedy 60). As a reader, it is difficult to decipher whether Dowell is hopelessly naive and socially inept or a master manipulator, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The insincerity stems primarily from the unreliable nature of the narrator and the impassivity from the casual conveyance of the story and the narrator s revelations. Although the subtitle claims it to be A Tale of Passion, the tone of the novel lacks empathy and passion from the storytelling. Dowell uses hyperbole and attempts to play up hysterics to no avail. The bland, impassive narration of otherwise dramatic events and characters create a dichotomy, which gives the tale a sarcastic attitude. This is used when Dowell is attempting to show Captain Ashburnham in a good light, but instead reveals his infidelities and naГЇve

Unlike store image which refers to functional properties of a retail store including value of money, selection of product and service s quality, store personality is a mental representation of a retail store on dimensions that generally describe personality of an individual. There are five dimensions comprised a retail store s personality such as sophistication, solidity, genuineness, enthusiasm and unpleasantness (d Astous Levesque, 2003). Once store image is accepted by shoppers, store personality is important in consumers buying behavior as the buying decision made depends on their experiences of such personality factors as architecture, color design, music, advertising, sale personnel etc (Martineu, 1958). Colors and designs of a retail store which can capture customers eyes and attention firstly, music played in store which is highly successful in catching people attention and the way items displayed in the store, etc, create pleasant feeling and emotion in customers while walking in the store. • 8. Symbolism In Ernest Hemingway Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American novelist and short story writer, and awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. Hemingway was born July 21, 1899, Cisero, Illinois, U.S., as the first son between Clarence and Grace Hemingway, and died by suicide in his home on July 2, 1961, Ketchum, Idaho. While reaching incomparable fame and success to other 20th century American authors, Hemingway completed seven novels, six collections of short stories, and two works of non fiction that were published during his lifetime. Hemingway grew up in a sheltered environment, which pushed him to forgo college and move to Kansas city and work as a reporter for the Star. Milan, Chicago, Paris, Spain, Havana, China, and African were the destinations Hemingway found himself living and corresponding in, as well as travelling to, over the course of his life. Sir Isaac Newton Essay examples Born on Christmas Day, 1642, Isaac Newton spent his early childhood in a small farm house in the hamlet of Woolsthope, sixty miles northwest of Cambridge and one hundred miles from London. Newton s biological father died before he was born and his mother remarried two years later to the Reverend Barnabas Smith. Newton attended the King s School at Grantham at the age of twelve but was brought home by his mother at nearly the age of sixteen to manage the estate. Luckily for science, Newton showed little interest in farming. Newton s childhood acquaintances remember him building a model windmill, ingenious water mill and many sun dials (North 5 8). This discovery enabled him to find the area under almost any algebraic curve in mathematics and became known as the fundamental theorem of calculus (Westfall 42). Newton s book, Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica, often called Principia for short, was completed by April 1686 and is one of the greatest pieces of scientific literature ever written. Much credit is deserved to Edmond Halley as his initial visit to Cambridge in the fall of 1684 reminded Newton of the work that needed to be completed regarding celestial mechanics. This visit prompted the writing of De motu and quickly lead to the writing of Principia (Cropper 30). Although a groundbreaking piece of literature, the Principia is one of the most incomprehensible books ever written. In about 500 pages and 340 complicated diagrams, Newton proves his arguments with the use of formally presented propositions with demonstrations. To understand the arguments explained in the book, the reader must comprehend each proposition in sequence (Cropper 31). Another problem that renders the Principia very difficult for the modern reader is that Newton chose to write the book in ancient geometrical style. This style was preferred by Newton not only because it represented the language of the ancients, but also because the fluxion language (calculus) he developed had not yet been published. In some aspects, the Principia, along with

Within this massive population there is a surprising little amount of religious diversity in this country, having over 90% of the population affiliating with the Muslim faith. This small yet densely populated country has many much more beneath its services, engulfing its government as well as its people. (8) Racism is ingrained into the very genome of mankind, it effects the people of the world with hate or ignorance, and it is this combination that is plaguing the Egyptian culture. The shabby old house on Mango Street is all that Esperanza and her family can afford at the moment, as they are very poor. Esperanza is happy that her family owns a house, but she often feels ashamed and embarrassed to live in it. For example, one day, a nun that passes by asks Esperanza where she lives. When she points to her house, the nun asks, You live there? The way she [says] it [makes] [her] feel like nothing. There. [she] lived there. [She] [nods]. (1.10) The way that the nun says the word there makes Esperanza feel very small, like there is something wrong with the house. Not only does Esperanza feel judged by people in her community, she also feels judged by outsiders. Those who don t know any better come into our neighborhood scared. They think we re dangerous. William Duke of Normandy s invasion in 1066 resulted in the battle of Hastings, during which the Saxon king Harold Godwinson was killed, possibly by an arrow in the eye. Following one battle of Hastings, castles were used by William to take control of England. One of the first castles was built at Pevensey, but the most famous castle was the Tower of London, built to conquer and control London and to provide protection for the new Norman Rulers of England William the conqueror as he became known granted land to his trusted Barons and friends. Renowned for his hospitality at Carisbrooke Castle, he was unpopular with the local gentry, who complained of misconduct and use of the title governor . He had a strong sense of his own importance. He began by rebuilding the domestic buildings of the castle, which had fallen into decay, to provide accommodation worthy of his status. The hall block and St Peter s Chapel were radically changed with the insertion of an upper floor. He brutally desecrated Isabella de Fortibus s chapel in the southeast corner of the hall as he needed to increase accommodation and so built an upper floor in the chapel, destroying its medieval detail. Adjoining the hall he added a new range, known as Carey s building with 17 rooms and a long gallery. With the threat of Spanish invasion Carey made some modest additions to the defences in 1587. In the next invasion scare of 1596 7, however, he persuaded the queen and the local gentry to pay for the creation of a major, modern artillery fort as Carisbrooke. This took the form of a low, roughly rectangular rampart nearly a mile long, with five bastions. These defences were completed in 1602, but were never used in action. In March 1600 Carey fell ill and went to Bath. He resigned as

Airframe Systems Essay examples P1 State three purposes of pneumatic supply system for a typical piston engine powered light aircraft, and give the functions of the piston engine air compressor and receiver, within the system. An aircraft powered by a piston engine usually tends to have a pneumatic air supply system. This allows the function of different systems on the aircraft that are essential to the flight of the aircraft. In a newer system the supply system will provide a vacuum of air for the gyro s, so that the de icing boots on the leading edge of the wings can inflate, for example, the boots on the jet stream wings inflate. The vacuum sometimes provides for some of the flight controls. An example of these flight controls would be the auto pilot system. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it becomes too cold, hot air can be directed from the bleed air system through a valve. M1 The air supplied to the pneumatic systems of gas turbine powered aircraft, and piston engine powered aircraft, is different. Explain how the pneumatic supply systems differ for the two different aircraft types. Your answers must relate to typical pressurised passenger or cargo aircraft systems. The pneumatic systems on gas turbine powered aircraft are different from those that are on aircraft that are powered by piston engines. Larger aircraft depend more on pneumatic systems due to their increased flying altitude and need a form of environmental control system. For example, air conditioning. The air conditioning system provides a more suitable living atmosphere pressure inside the cabin, by supplying oxygenated air to breathe. The bleed air helps to pressurise the airframe of the aircraft at a high altitude. Because the piston engine powered aircraft don t tend to fly at a high altitude, there is no need for a large pneumatic supply system to power the climate control. This is how the two types differ from each

The traditional 4 functions of management by Fayol are; Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. Planning is the step where an action plan is created based on the organization and team goal, objectives are created and deadlines. Organizing is the step where team roles, responsibilities and task are assigned. Leading is the step where managers motivate, and encourage team members to achieve the objectives and goals of the company. Effective leaders motivate and influence others to achieve their work. Controlling is the step where managers measure the achievement of objectives and goals set, and to ensuring that the organization is operating successfully. I tend to look for the biggest tables because I like to have a big space to have my papers and books. Also usually one of my friends joins me midway. Technology For The Greater Good Igor Stepanov Professor Simental English 1A 15 April, 2015 Technology for the Greater Good Some say that technology is the evil that will overcome humanity, others say it is something that will lead us to a new way of thinking about the world. In the book Remix by Catherine Latterell, she writes three assumptions about technology: Technologies are machines, technologies bring progress or peril, and technology is neutral. These assumptions are what some people make about the technology. In Latterell s book there was an article by Langdon Winner who wrote Technology Somnambulism which was about how in the modern world we are being controlled by technology, we change the way we live because of technology. Now given the assumptions that Latterell gives, technology can really be seen as something that is good for the world because it can teach us how to be a better socializer, speeds up the process of doing things, and allows a new kind of learning tool for future generations. A study at a Dominican University of California was done, were they monitored teenagers social cognitive effects of technology and had learned that texting will be used by the left side of the brain which controls the skills for math and logic. Due to the magnitude of devastation and loss of life caused by World War I, it went down in history as one of the vilest wars ever to be fought. It was a brutal war from 1914 1918 which affected all of Europe and the outlying areas. The military conflict that began the World War Istarted as a local European war between Austria Hungary and Serbia. It was transformed into a general European struggle by declaration of war against Russia on August 1, 1914 and eventually became a global war involving thirty two nations. The Chinese were able to import and export goods at an increasing rate. There were advances in China s economy. The demand and the amount of goods produced increased. The productions of goods were affected by the migration to different areas. It also brought about variations in everyday life in the population and how they interacted with each other. During the revolution, trade adapted and soared to great heights. Farmers had stopped producing just for themselves, but producing surplus and selling the surplus to the market. In return, they bought things such as tea, wine, and oil. When they needed to ship commercial crops that they started to grow, the coastal shipping and inland shipping industries were created. Marco polo claimed to see no less than fifteen thousand vessels at a single port. Because of the booming shipping industry, a device used to tell direction was invented. Its name was the compass. • 30. The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin In James Baldwin s collection of essays, The Fire Next Time, he discusses a range of topics stemming from the ultimate point that despite current implications and present maltreatment of African Americans in America, White Americans are not the only ones who contribute to the inferiority of Blacks. It is a collective action problem that has to be realized on both sides of this issue. In order for the nation to move on as a whole and get somewhere past this, Blacks and Whites have to work together in an attempt to realize that the past is a determinant of the future and shapes who we are as a people, and in order for equality to transform from a state of mind to a physical concept practiced by all, African Americans have to first accept their past in order to look to the future. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, [n]o one can make you feel inferior without your consent and these words ring true in reference to the oppression of African Americans by White Americans as displayed in The Fire Next Time. To grasp this concept of accepting the past to look to the future, Baldwin notifies African Americans of their current place in the world. Baldwin s uncle first states that [they] were born where [they] were born and faced what [they] faced the future they faced because [they] were black and for no other reason. (7) Because of this, their intelligence, among other things, was limited and Blacks were assumed to be inferior in the eyes of White Americans, and the virtues preached

Unit 9 And Systems Theory And Social Construction Unit 9 Cybernetics and Social Construction Cybernetics/systems theory and social constructionism are two closely related philosophical traditions that inform family therapy approaches (Gehart, p. 37, 2014). They are the foundation to the various family therapy models used by Marriage and Family Therapist. All forms of family therapy, in one way or another has been influenced by one of these two theories. More traditional forms of therapy such as MRI, Milan and Bowen s intergenerational and psychoanalytic therapy have been influenced by cybernetics/systems theory. From this perspective, the therapist assumes the role of observer / participant, creating interdependence between the observer and the observed; this is necessary to create the holistic perspective on which cybernetic/systems theory is built. The worldview of Marriage and Family Therapist centers on the notions of recursion reciprocity, and shared responsibility. Two entities exists in the context of a relationship in which each influences the other and both are equally cause and effect of each other s behavior (Becvar Becvar, p. 8, 2013), this known as circular causality. Patterns form and I order to understand the problems and events of the relationship, MFT s need to look at what is going on rather than asking why it is happening. A MFT s perspective is holistic, and our focus is on the processes the context that give meaning to issues and events instead of to the individuals, issues, or events in isolation (Becvar Becvar, p. 9, 2013). A MFT s focus is also on current events. They do not look to events of the past for the archetype of the source of the issue. Family systems theory is focused on the dynamics of the family that deal with the rolls of each family member, the balance of power, structures, communication patterns, and boundaries (Rothbaum, Rosen, Ujiie, Uchida, 2002). • 32. Meaning Of Heroism Heroes can be found everywhere in the world. Some can be found in real life, such as Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United Sates who led the Union in the war against slavery, and successfully abolished. Others are found stories known by many people, such as Cinderella, who overcame challenges with a kind heart and good deeds. Although heroes are found all over the world in both real life and imagination, what about them makes them heroic? Many believe the misconception that if a person is famous, then they are a hero. However, this concept is found to be false if people took a closer at the person. For example, Abraham Lincoln, as previously stated, was the sixteenth president of the United States for leading the Union to victory against the legality of slavery. In a sermon, Dr. Phineas D. Gurley, a former pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, stated, He is dead; but the memory of his virtues, of his wise and patriotic counsels and labors, of his calm and steady faith in God lives, is precious, and will be a power for good in the country quite down to the end of time (Gurley, 1865). The phrase, power for good in the country quite down to the end of time and the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a president of the U.S., influences people to assume that being famous means that you are a hero. However, a closer look at the quote shows that the memory of his virtues and his wise and patriotic counsels and labors is what led to Lincoln being deemed a hero. The quote does not specify that being the president of the U.S. was what made Lincoln a hero. Thus, being a hero does not mean being famous or being well known and is, on the contrary, about what a person does. While the traits and qualities of a hero are well distinguished from ones that are not,

As Hawthorne identifies in the previous quote, this story is a blatant parallel towards the story of Original Sin. The issue, then, lies in the representation. Who is playing Adam and Eve? Who is Satan and who is God? At first glance it is easy to assume that the two love birds, Giovanni and Beatrice, are Adam and Eve; while Beatrice s black cloaked father is Satan, and God is either an omniscient overseer, represented in nature, or absent from the story all together. Rappaccini s Daughter begs to be an allegory of the fall story but will never succeed. Instead, it is a sort of perverse reenactment where the actors and actress could not decide on their roles and properly get into character . Rappaccini is God and Satan/serpent. As God, he has created an immaculate garden and a daughter of the like. Only, his quasi Eden is filled with the deadliest flowers which nurture his poisonous daughter. It is an evil mockery of beauty . Beatrice, as a sort of noble savage, faces her demise as the result of his hideous and inhumane creation; possibly the tragic result of a man trying to be God. Rappaccini is also Satan in his sinister nature. He chooses experimentation and knowledge over life and has created a deadly anti nature; a microcosm and it s heroine that can never be acclimated to the natural world. In doing so, Rappaccini has chosen destruction through creation where there is a complete void of love, only passion for his work of science. The ideas of Rappaccini owning and creating the garden as God or having innately evil intentions as the Devil are more suited towards his nature than Hawthorne s insinuation of him as Adam. In the garden of Eden, the serpent tempted Eve with the fruit of the tree of knowledge; an apple, of which both Adam and Eve tasted. The garden has already been established as

On the other hand, learning should not be all fun and games. Students will never take learning seriously if there is not seriousness implanted in their learning experience. It is my opinion classroom learning environments should be highly structured with strong focuses on academic work as well as essential knowledge and skills. As I stated before, a child should have just as much academic knowledge as they do knowledge of how the world works around them. This follows both Essentialism as well as Perennialism. Perennialism is an educational philosophy suggesting that nature is constant and that schools should teach classic knowledge.
