The teacher used various technologies to support math instruction for 4th grade students on fractions. She began the lesson by introducing the relevant math standard on the interactive whiteboard. She then taught the lesson and used StudyIsland.com to assess student understanding, projecting it on the board. Students responded to questions using Renaissance responders. The teacher was able to immediately see results and pull groups for instruction. The main issues were needing new bulbs for the interactive whiteboard and replacing older projectors due to lack of funding.

Understand representations of equivalent common fractions and/or decimal fractions. b. Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators. (Denominators should not exceed twelve.) c. Use mixed numbers and improper fractions interchangeably.

5. Interactive Whiteboard An interactive whiteboard (IWB) , is a large interactive display that connects to a computer and projector. A projector projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface where users control the computer using a pen, finger, stylus, or other device. The board is typically mounted to a wall or floor stand (Wikipedia 2011).

6. Renaissance Response System The Renaissance Classroom Response System consists of wireless handheld remote devices, software, and a receiver that plugs directly into your classroom computer. Using the system’s Renaissance Responders and real-time scoring, the teacher can tell which students aren’t comprehending instruction, so she can better target those students for personalized attention right away.

7. Study Island Web-based instruction, practice, assessment and reporting built from state standards Every student has their own username and password. The program is divided into sections based on subject. Each subject is made up of topics, each of which corresponds to a specific state standard. Each topic contains lessons, practice questions and explanations. Most topics are accompanied by a lesson which includes some brief information about the material covered by the questions in the topic. The student can also incorporate games into their studies while on Study Island

8. How do these technologies to support the curriculum?

9. The teacher begins class by opening with the day’s Georgia Performance Standards. She then teaches a lesson that matches the standard. In order assess the student’s understanding, she opens a studyisland.com session that goes right along with the standard. It is projected onto the interactive whiteboard via the teacher’s computer Throughout this teacher led session, students are able to “click” in their answers through the renaissance responders. After all questions are answered, she is then able to immediately print out a report of the results. She uses these results to pull students for small group instruction for the day.

10. Support Issues The teacher has had training on all of the equipment used during this class session. She has not experienced any issues with studyisland.com or the Renaissance Responders. However, with the Interactive Whiteboard, the main issue seems to be getting the bulbs replaced due to lack of funding. The other issue is that some of the projectors are older and in need of replacement as well but again, due to funding, or lack there-of.
