As our world changes and evolves, so does our technology and how it can be used. For a while now, there had been
an enormous push for teachers to incorporate technology into the classroom. For can be a challenge for some teach-
ers, especially those that have been teaching for a long time. Luckily, they have technology/social media-age sitting
right in front of them every single day. Students can be a great tool for helping teachers learn to newest technology,
which can be used for any content area!
According to the University of California at Berkley, technology can enhance teaching and student learning three
ways. First, “it [technology] can expand the scope of classroom learning beyond the physical boundaries of the
classroom (and also beyond inclusion of only teacher and students).” While teachers are an irreplaceable wealth
of knowledge, the internet can links students to information from experts. This can be through simply reading a
scholarly journal or using Skype to interview an expert from half-way around the world. Second, “it [technology] can
expand accessibility of, and engagement with, content and information.” Tools like Blackboard and Edmodo can al-
low students and teachers to interact with each other outside of the classroom. Students can discuss a content topic
and teachers can make class announcements. Lastly, “it [technology] can expand the ways students can demonstrate
what they have learned.” Tools like Prezi and Movie Maker can allow students to present research they found in an
interactive and interesting way. Students will also be able to express themselves creatively through the presentation.
Technology in the classroom can also be beneficial for parents. There are many tools, like ClassDojo, that allow
parents to stay up-to-date with how their child is performing in school. They can see how their child behaved during
class and what areas they are struggling/succeeding in.
So as you can see, technology in the classroom can be beneficial to everyone in the educational system. Technology
will help get students more engaged and they will find the content more meaningful, which in turn, helps the
teachers be more effective. The students’ parents will also feel more connected with how their student is doing.

3. Let Us Learn!
One main goal of a teacher should be to make sure that students are learning
as much as they can, one way to accomplish this is by incorporating technol-
ogy into the classroom. Whether a new is just beginning their career or about
to retire, they should learn how to use technological tools in their class-
rooms.
The ISTE (International Society of Technology in Education) has a set of
standards that they hold their teachers to, NETS. These state that teachers
should always be willing to develop learning experiences for their students
and be a positive, professional role model for everyone they are associated
with. They have five guidelines for teachers to follow. The first one is to
facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. This means that teachers
should encourage their students to be creative and collaborate with others.
The second one is to design and develop digital age learning experiences and
assessments. This means that teachers should provide experiences and
assessments that help their students maximize content learning. The third
one is to model digital age work and learning. This means that teachers
should incorporate technology into their assignments and lesson plans. The
fourth one is to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. This
means that teachers should explain and be a role model for digital
citizenship. The last one is to engage professional growth and leadership. This
means that teachers should always be willing to learn new things and apply
them to their classroom. As technology is growing, so are students’ yearnings
for wanting to use it. I believe that the more technology used in a lesson, the
more students will want to be engaged and find the content meaningful.
