Francesca Gottschalk - How can education support child empowerment.pptxEduSkills OECD
Francesca Gottschalk from the OECD’s Centre for Educational Research and Innovation presents at the Ask an Expert Webinar: How can education support child empowerment?
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. CAMERA
To take my pictures for my magazine I used a digital camera, I took pictures from
multiple angles and uses different formats on the camera to get the best
possible pictures. By using this digital camera it allowed me to take multiple
pictures to get the best possible picture, it also allowed me to get my images
onto a computer easily. Using a digital camera was better than any other camera
as it could be connected up to the computer. Some of the angles and shot types I
used are full body and close up, the camera angles that I used were eye level
with the person in the shot. From using a camera for this use I have learnt about
the many different features and modes that a camera has and how these
different modes allow different types of image to be taken.
3. IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE
To edit my images I used Photoshop, this is because I can create professional
looking images which I can edit and change to how I choose. Also I can get any
image I want onto Photoshop and then save them in any format I wanted. I chose
Photoshop out of all of the editing programs because it was easy to use and
gave me a wide range of tools to use. Here is an example of the the editing I did
on Photoshop, most of my editing was basic and all I had to do was remove the
background from the image. I did this so that the image became more isolated
and looked more eye catching on my page. It also means that any shadows or
unwanted background could be removed from my magazine. I have learnt that
Photoshop is an important tool in the media production as it allows people to
transform any image they want to make people look different, or to put them
onto another background which is hard to do with other products on the market.
From using this program for the first time I have learnt a lot about Photoshop, I
have learnt how to remove backgrounds, crop pictures and remove spots or
logos with the spot healer tool.
4. PROGRAMS USED TO CONSTRUCT THE
MAGAZINE
I used publisher as it is a quick and simple tool to use and allows you to create
professional designs. The rulers along the edges allow you to get everything
exactly where you want it and there is a wide range of basic editing tools that you
can use such as changing the colour of an image or setting a transparent colour.
Also when you move objects lines appear so you can line that object up with
another so they are symmetrical. Using Publisher in media product work allows you
to create anything from leaflets to banners and they still look professional, I have
leant that you can use your own images, your own designs or even the programs
designs to create a wide range of products. I have developed many skills using this
software, I can now create a professional posters or products using a wide rang of
images and fonts and manipulating them into different layers and groups to create
a product which not only looks good but works well as well.

5. USE OF INTERNET RESOURCES
To create the fonts which I used through-out my magazine ‘dafont.com’ this website
allowed me to get any font in any style that I wanted and copy it from the website onto
my page. By simply copying and pasting the print screen onto my page and then
cropping down to the bit I wanted, I could get the font and make it look like it belongs on
my page. I have learnt that by using websites such as dafont.com you can get any font
you want any use on your product to make it look even more professional. I have
developed multiple skills from knowing about copyright laws to being able to get fonts
and seamlessly add them onto my product.
6. SKILLS I HAVE GAINED
After using all of these programs I have developed multiple skills which can
help me in many different ways. The skills that I have learnt in publisher,
how to create professional looking documents will allow me to create even
better product in the future. Some of my photo shopping skills include
being able to crop pictures and edit images to how I want and in the future
this will help me make the images even better. The photography skills that I
have learnt are things like getting the right camera angle, using the right
mise-en-scene and what people should be used in different genres. All of
these skills which I have gained will allow me to create better products next
time I make one.
7. All of the orange arrows show where I
have used dafont to get all of this text, I
did this so I could have a wide range of
text fonts so all of the text stands out
and looks professional.
The blue arrows show
where I have used
Photoshop, this is one
image but I treated
each person as a
different image. To get
the image like this
used the quick
selection tool,
highlighted all of the
background and then
selected the delete
option. This removed
what I had selected
and kept what I had
left.
The green arrows show
where I have used
publisher. Even though
the whole front cover
was made on publisher
but the boxes around
the text was created
using the shape tool on
publisher.
The black arrow is
where I used Google
images to find the
barcode adding
realism.
8. The orange arrows are
where I have use dafont
to get my text. Like on
the front cover it allows
me to have a greater
variation of professional
fonts for my magazine
The blue arrow is
Photoshop, just like on
the front cover I only
used the quick select
tool so I could remove
the background.
The black arrow
is where I have
used Google
images to find
pictures of the
social media
icons so it makes
my magazine
more
professional.
The whole
magazine was
made in publisher,
including the
background
colour, but the
green arrows
show specific
examples of
where it was
used, like in
boxes and text.
9. The orange arrows are where I've used
dafont to give my product a more
realistic feel, to get all the texts from
dafont onto my design I wrote what I
wanted on the website, print screened
the text and then cropped it down to fit
it on the page.
In all of my images I used
he quick select tool and
selected all of the
background and then
chose delete option. With
all of my images I saved
them as GIF formats and
then print screened them
into the magazine.
The green arrows show where I have used tools on
publisher. The background itself was changed on
publisher but going into design, and changing the
background colour. The text was put in by using a
text box and selecting the desired font. The boxes
were added by using the shape select tool and I
drew the to the size that I wanted.
