This is our response to question 6 for our evaluation of our music magazine. The question is,"What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?".

2. What LIAM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
During the creation of our music magazine we have had to deal with different
computer software's and camera filming. One programme I have learnt about is
Adobe Photoshop, one skill I have developed is using layers. One aspect of my
magazine in which I have had to use layers is placing the image of the artist on the
front cover partially in front of the magazine’s title. When layering the image over the
title I also have to use how to use the ‘Lasso Tool’. This is used to group and select a
certain area of the image to which it can then be placed on top of another image.

3. What LIAM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
Another skill I use in Photoshop which proved to be important in making my
photos look good was the Airbrush tool. This was used to fade any imperfections
in the artists skin which stood out and took away from the most important aspects
of the photos. The tool I used for the airbrushing was the ‘Sport Healing Brush
Tool’. This was tricky to use at first as it was easy to over use the tool which
results in the image look smudged.

4. What LIAM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
Photoshop wasn’t the only programme I used in the construction of my magazine.
For creating my contents page and double page spread I used Indesign. As I had
never used Indesign before, everything tools I used was new to me and resulted in
me gaining knowledge of the software. One aspect of Indesign which I have
become familiar with is using Gradients.

5. What TOM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
Just like Liam, I have learnt a lot from using Photoshop during the construction of
my magazine. One tool I have had to use on my front cover and double page
spread is the ‘Dodge’ and ‘Burn Tool’. I used the Dodge tool to brighten a certain
part of my front cover and double page in order for the text to stand out. Having a
dark text on a dark background required me to use the ‘Dodge’ tool to enable it to
stand out and to ensure it didn’t get hidden.

more so they could be
easily read from a

6. What TOM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
In addition to the ‘Dodge’ and ‘Burn’ tool I also learnt about the ‘Magic Wand’ tool.
The ‘Magic Wand’ tool was used on my contents page to remove the background
of the image just leaving the artists. I did this to give the pictures variety and to
ensure to reader’s attention was firmly on the artist.

7. What TOM has learnt about technologies in the process of
constructing our product
On Indesign I learnt important skills on how to layout a double page spread.
On Indesign I had to ensure I was using columns for the double page spread
and contents pages. I did this so that it fitted in with the conventions of music
magazines. I used a six column grid on my double page spread which helped
me to place the picture of the artist on exactly one half of the page so that
some of the image wasn’t lost along the middle fold of the magazine. On my
contents page I used a three column grid so I knew where everything on the
page needed to go.

8. What EMILY has learnt about technologies in the process
of constructing our product
On Photoshop I learnt the same important skills as Liam and Tom, I also leant how to
change the colour of photos. I used the tools on Photoshop to make the main image
on my front cover black and white. I Changed the colour of photo my adjusting the
image through the image tab and alterting the Hue/Saturation. I didn’t know how to
do this before the project despite having worked with Photoshop before hand. As well
as this I also learnt how to add text in front and behind an image.

9. What EMILY has learnt about technologies in the process
of constructing our product
On Indesign I learnt how to use margins to ensure I had even space between
the edge of the page and the content on it. The margins can be implanted by
dragging inwards from the side of the page(see below). Margins are important
as they help draw the reader’s attention towards the center of the page where
the main content is. Another skill I have developed is that of using a drop capital
at the start of my articles. This is important as it marks the start of the article.
