New media technologies are impacting the film industry in several ways. Technologies allow for higher quality production with lower costs but digital formats still cannot match the highest quality of film. Piracy may decrease with online viewing services but cinemas could see lower profits. Distribution is easier and cheaper with new methods but competition is greater. While access to technology increases, newer technologies are initially expensive. Marketing to audiences is easier but originality in advertising can be difficult. Amateur productions are now possible but may be of lower quality and appear unprofessional.
