During this Meetup, Concordia and INM discussed Concordia’s experience with re-platforming over 300 websites over to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and the various steps involved in making this happen.
Concordia gave some background on their past website and digital landscape before the move over to AEM. Then they provided insights on why the decision to move over to AEM and what factors went into selecting the tool and their experience since making the upgrade.
INM then shared about the various stages required for a project of this magnitude, such as:
-Gathering user requirements by interviewing stakeholders
-Laying out the information architecture
-Designing wireframes
-Back end and front end development
-Integrating third-part technologies and systems
-Coaching and author training
To close the presentation, Andrei and Chantal discussed their recent migration to AEM 6.1, lessons learned and what’s next for Concordia.

Analysis: New Threats & Countermeasure in Crime and Cyber Terrorism
This document discusses various tools and threats related to cybercrime and cyberterrorism, as well as countermeasures taken by governments. It outlines how technologies like mobile devices, digital currency software, and cyber espionage have created new vulnerabilities but also new tools for criminal acts. The document also examines laws and policies enacted post-9/11 to combat terrorism, such as the 2010 Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which aims to enhance cyber and critical infrastructure security in the US. Overall, the document analyzes the growing threats in cyber space and how governments and security infrastructures must continue adapting to address vulnerabilities from new technologies and non-physical forms of attack.
Analysis: Guidelines for Securing WLANS and Networks of ‘Things’
UMSL had to consider security when setting up their local and wireless networks. They standardized configurations across client devices and access points to provide a base level of security and reduce vulnerabilities. This included configuring access points to filter packet data and separate networks with different security profiles. When designing the security architecture, UMSL's IT team had to gather information on operational and security needs to determine the required network architecture, particularly for the wireless network serving students and faculty across campus. A standardized security configuration was important for securing both the wired and wireless networks at UMSL.
Cryptography
This document contains information about encrypted and decrypted email, including a SHA1 hash and steganography. It references encrypted and decrypted email as well as a SHA1 hash and mentions steganography, suggesting the document contains technical details related to encrypting email communications and possibly hiding encrypted messages.
Networking Task
Nikki Gaehle captured 2,340 network packets using Wireshark, which mainly consisted of TCP, DNS, and HTTP packets, but also included TLSv1.2, ICMP, OCSP, and MDNS packets. Gaehle then imported the Wireshark data into Cytoscape, a data analytics tool, and learned that Wireshark gathers data at the Internet layer to determine packet types, and that Cytoscape can import Wireshark data for analysis.
Vm Penetration Test
Run at least 4 successful penetrations using Kali Linux. Capture these in a presentation and be prepared to demonstrate at least 2 live in class.
Reverse Engineering Project
FindBugs uses static analysis to inspect Java bytecode for bug patterns without executing the program. It looks for code idioms that commonly cause errors, including difficult language features, misunderstood APIs, and mistakes. The tool matches bugs to CWE categories.
The Java Decompiler aims to decompile Java bytecode into human-readable source code. It has different options for use including a standalone GUI. JD-GUI allows browsing reconstructed source code.
The presentation discusses 14 CWE categories relevant to Java and provides examples of how some could be exploited, including SQL injection, trust of system events, missing synchronization, omitted break statements, and deserialization of untrusted data.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
