INTRODUCTION
“You can teach a student a lesson for a day but if you can teach him to learn
by creating curiosity he will continue the learning process as long as he lives” –
Clay P.Bedford.
The power of the learning environment to influence and promote learning is
significant and the learning spaces and learning resources provide important
opportunities for students to explore ideas and knowledge collaborate solve
problems and develop knowledge and skills.
The successfulimplementation of the new schoolmodel requires the use of a
variety of resources that enable the student to learn through a rich and varied
section of instructional materials. Such materials may include books independent
and guided readers writing programs, e-learning and other technological resources.
Indoorand out doorspaces all aspects of physical and social learning.
Carefully selected digital technology resources are used to enable children to
access global connections and resources while also encouraging new ways of
thinking. The introduction technology rich environments and multy – sensory
resources can also be useful in reading each student strengths and engaging studens
to become life long learners. There are two types of teaching learning context they
are
1. Formal learning context
2. Informal learning context
FORMAL LEARNING CONTEXT
Formal learning resources occurs in institutional settings such as
schools and colleges where learning is a major goal. Formal education is classroom
based provided by trained teachers. Some courses may adopta more learner
centered approachfocusing on he goals of the learners themselves but it would still
be highly unlikely for a formal learning intervention to have no objectives at all
whether or not these are made explicit. An established curriculam or learning plan
which sets out how the learning objectives are to be achieved in terma of the topics
to be covered and the activities to be under taken. Content assembled by or with
refearence to acknowledged subject experts. As he very least this content is likely
to consist of a simple trainer guide or lecture notes.
FORMAL LEARNING RESOURCES
Formal learning occurs in institutional settings such as schooland
colleges where learning activities may take place but learning is not necessarily a
primary activity.
1.Text book:- Text books are especially helpful for beginning teachers. The
material to be covered and the design of each lesson are carefully spelled out in
detail.
2.Course book:- Course bookis organized units of work and outlined all the
plans and lessons that teachers are to cover in a specific topic in some detail.
3. Story book:- The story provides a child centered univers where abstract
concepts are symbolished within the text and images. It provides an ideal context
for literacy practice as well as linguistic acquisition.
4.Dictionary :- Dictionaries develop learner autonomy. They are a handy resources
for researching different meanings, collections, examples of use and standard
pronunciation. The best way to complement a dictionary investment is strong study
skills.
5.Source book:- The source bookis used to describe many different kinds of
books suchas collections of core articles, bibliographies, biographies printed
archived sources directories and so on.
INFORMAL LEARNING CONTEXT
Informal learning can be defined as a particular way of learning which
arises from the activities and interests of individuals and groups. After having
identified and selected interests expressed by learners informal learning activities
are carried out in a flexible and informal way in informal community locations.
Informal learning is a life long process through which people acquire attitudes,
values, skills and knowledge mainly from the mass media from daily experiences
such as those made at work at play while talking with our neighbours and from
various kind of interactions in general. It is apparent that informal learning is rather
related to incidental learning. It is severe organized and often highly motivated to
learn. It is often spontaneous and there is no formal curriculam.
INFORMAL LEARNING RESOURCES
Informal education happens outside the classroomin after school
programs, community based organizations, museums, libraries or at home.
1. Library :- The library is central learning and plays a key role as a place for
encouraging innovation curiosity and problem solving schoollibraries make a
difference to students understanding and achievement and provide supportfor
teaching and learning throughout the school.
2.Language Lab :- English language lab is a network based teaching software
designed to improve teaching environment in the computer labs. Clarify language
lab not only facilitates the teaching process butalso bring fun and efficiency to
learning.
3.E-book :- E-books bring opportunities and issues for our schoolits library.
Making sound decisions on e-books will require you to keep up-to-date with
developments around copyright, devices, delivery availability and sources.
4.Film :- Languge teachers have been using films in their classes for decades and
there are a number of reasons why is an excellent teaching and learning tool.
Motivation is one of the most important factors in determining successfulsecond
language acquisition.
5.Blog :- Edublog is built on wordpress which was once just for blogs. It never
stops amazing us when we see all of the different ways that educators are using
edublogs and we don’tget to share them all often enough.
6.Language Institution :- The language institutions offer students the opportunity to
acquire or master skills in reading,writing,listening,and speaking in various
language with instruction grounded in meaningful context based interactions you
will learn how to accomplish language tasks in both formal and informal situations.
7.Museums :- The professional training in all aspects of museum work and
encourage to reflect on the conceptof the museum and its associated practices.
8.Spoken English Centres :- These type of centres generally give importance only
in the improvement of speaking skill of the students.
9.Literary Clubs :- The English literary club promotes the learning of English in
fun manner through games, literature and drama. It helps in the improvement of the
English language.
CONCLUSION
The knowledge or awareness about teaching learning resources helps the
teachers to make language teaching more effective through e-library, films, text
books etc. The language development forums are there which helps to improve
effectiveness in teaching. English is a worldwide language which influences many
developments in our country and educational field.
