INTRODUCTION
English Language is considered as the second
language or international language. For the
improvement in the effectiveness of language
classes, there are many techniques and programmes
conducted. There are many specialized teaching
learning resources, language lab, literary clubs etc.
Every measure is taken by the language teachers for
the effective teaching. The most modern ICT model
teaching are also tried to improve language skills.
There are so many institutes, forums etc for the
development of effective measures. The spoken
English is much important when considered with the
employment sector. The globalization,
westernization are all possible through English
language. The availability of online knowledge, e-library,
films, theatres etc improves the language
4
learning.

TEACHING AND
LEARNING RESOURCES
Teaching and learning resources are those sources
or materials which are used for improving the
effectiveness and deficiency of a classroom which
includes audio-visual aids like TV, Film, language lab,
charts, models etc. They are the text, videos,
software and other materials that teachers use to
assist students to meet the expectations for learning
defined by provincial and local curricula. These are
provided to support students’ independent study
and they can improve their skills easily. These
resources are purpose designed and developed by
or on behalf of the teaching staff. Resources are
6
provided to supplement the face to face teaching.
This may include provision of audio tapes, audio
CD’s, video tapes or streamed media of lectures etc.
FORMAL AND INFORMAL
LEARNING CONTEXT
Formal and informal learning includes both the
knowledge that we learn directly and indirectly from
book, society, family etc. Formal learning contexts
occurs in institutional settings, such as schools and
colleges, where learning is a major goal, whereas
informal learning context occurs in settings such as
the home or workplace where learning activities may
take place but learning is not necessarily a primary
7
activity. However, much informal teaching occurs in
educational settings, both within and more
particularly outside formal classes, and some
learning practices within the home and workplace
are formal, such as when learners complete
assignments or undertake formal training.
SOCIETY AS
LANGUAGE LAB
Language lab is a scientific area utilized mainly for
developing the skills of listening and speaking. Thus
we can consider our society as a large language lab
8
from where children begin to speak. A child when it
is born, it acquires knowledge of listening and
speaking from its family and society. The
development of social Medias, the news channels,
the opportunity to speak in the society forms the
language lab. We get to listen and learn many things
from the society. Different language forms, dialects
can be identified only from the society. The
language acquisition begins from the society.
LANGUAGE INSTITUTE
The language institutes
offer intensive language programs that prepare
students for using English in the real world. It offers
9
English instructions that prepare us for using English
in an academic or professional context and the
culture that is all around us. Universities provide
such language institutions to improve the use of
language and improve our spoken language. The
English language institutes provide English for
academic purposes, language instruction to us that
promotes effective academic, professional and
intercultural communication within and across
disciplines. We study in small and friendly groups
where everyone works hard and has a lot of fun.
Kerala University has a language institute which
provides effective pronunciation classes.ILM in
Bangalore is an example of language institute.
DIGITAL LIBRARY
10
E-library means electronic library. It is also known as
digital library. It is a collection of documents in
organized electronic form, available on the internet
or on compact disc. It includes text, images, video
and audio, along with methods for access and
retrieval. An electronic library is a focused collection
of digital objects that can include text, visual
material, audio material, video material stored as
electronic media formats along with means for
organizing, storing and retrieving the files and media
contained in the library collection.
11
SPOKEN ENGLISH
CENTRES
Everyone study English, but many of they could not
speak English, though they know it. So there are
canters to provide training in spoken English. These
type of centers generally give importance only in the
improvement of speaking skill of the students. It will
be truism to say that English has become
indispensable. Everyone knows it, but the fact is not
many academic institutions give serious attention to
communicative skills in English during a student’s
formative years. Spoken English is ‘talking grammar’
of English.
12
13
LITERARY CLUBS
Literary clubs help in the improvement of the English
language. The English literary club promotes the
learning of English in a fun manner through games,
literature and drama. Pupils also learn about the
workings of the school library and what they can do
to increase readership. With the truth English
language becoming the most spoken language of
communication, a good knowledge of the language
can open up a world of opportunities for pupils.
14
CONCLUSION
English is a worldwide language which influences
many developments in our country and educational
field. The knowledge or awareness about teaching
learning resources helps the teachers to make
language teaching more effective through e-library,
language al, films, literary clubs etc. The language
development forums are there which helps to
improve effectiveness in teaching. Spoken English
centers and language institutes are available in every
state.
