- 7. Oxygen Humidifier Added to new curriculum Offers patients more comfort for long transports
- 8. Venturi adaptor Used to administer a percentage of oxygen to a patient Seen in COPD patients and trach patients
- 9. Pulse Ox Was not a skill for EMT-B before EMT expected to know how to use but not interpret waveform (ALS)
- 10. Auto-BP machine Students need to know how to use but also how to take manual. Need to know that this is a tool and can break
- 11. Aspirin for Chest Pain Not a patient assisted med this is like oral glucose Indications for patient with chest pain and no ASA allergy, no history of abdominal bleeding, and no recent trauma Dose: 324mg orally chewable
- 12. Hand Held Nebulizer This is a patient assisted med however EMT will hook up to truck or portable O2. Albuterol only drug to administer Patient with difficulty breathing and wheezing Flow rate 8-10 lpm
- 13. Mechanical CPR device Students need to know these exist and are expected to use them if their agency has them. Device specific training is up to their department.
- 14. Eye Irrigation Now a BLS skill but use of Morgan Lens is ALS
- 15. PASG Also know as MAST Used to be used locally and are making a come back nationally Used on all trauma patients but inflated on patients with unstable pelvic injury with signs of shock, fractured extremity, or internal and external bleeding in areas covered by the garment.
- 16. Activated Charcoal Removed from national standards Just say NO!
