St Brrigid Beliefs
St Brigid was born in 451 AD in Faughart, Dundalk, Ireland. As St Brigid s mother was a slave
this meant that St Brigid would be born into slavery. When St Brigid s mother fell pregnant the
Dubthach s wife forced him to sell her to a druid. During this period of time, lots of people were
suffering from violence and poverty. From a young age, it was clear to see that St Brigidwas holy.
As St Brigid grew older she performed many miracles such as, feeding and healing the poor.
When St Brigid was around the age of ten she was a household servant to her father Dubthach,
where she had a habit of giving away her father s possessions to the poor, donating his belongings

St Brigid was very important to a lot of people at the time as she helped create religious life for
people in Ireland that needed it, she influenced a lot of people and taught them her ways.
Teaching them about being generous, non materialistic, compassionate and forgiving (Online,
n.d.). Her faith found expression in feast of charity as she generously gave food to the poor. The
feast of St Brigid is celebrated on the 1st of February, the feast is in honor of another person who
played an important role in the evolution of Christianity in Ireland. This person is known as
Mary of the Gaels, Bride, or Brigit; she contributes as one of the three most important patron
saints of Ireland, the other two patron saints are St Patrick and St Columba (or Columcille) (The
Ultimate History Project, 2017). There has been lots of debate about whether St Brigid was a
real person, as she has the same name as Celtic goddess Brigid who is also associated with feast
day. There are many legends, folk tales and supernatural events linked with her. Some scholars
suggest that St Brigid is simply a Christianization of the goddess, and others suggest that St
Brigid was real and someone who took on the goddess s characteristics (En.wikipedia.org, n.d.).
Although dying in 525 AD St Brigid is still talked about today and is still very important to lots of
people, as she is a symbol for

Whistleblower Edward Snowden
Leaving behind his luxurious life working for the NSA, Edward Snowden has made the decision
of a lifetime. He now sees himself in Russia, after exposing over 200,000 classified documents
from the NSA to the public. Russia has temporarily granted him asylum, allowing him to work and
travel within its borders. He has been on the run ever since those documents went out to the public,
going from country to country, escaping the USs attempts to capture him. He has exiled himself
from America, into Russia. His title of a respective computer specialist working for the NSA and
CIA has been thrown away, and is now known as a whistleblower.
Before this Snowden lead a very wealthy, and healthy life. Living in Hawaii, earning 122,000 a
year, and doing what he loves to do, who could argue with that? He made the conscious decision
to leave everything behind. He wanted everyone to know what the US government was doing.
The government was violating the privacy of millions of Americans. I don t want to live in a
society that does these sort of things ... I do not want to live in a world where everything I do
and say is recorded. That is not something I am willing to support or live under. (News ) Instead he
exposed the government for what they were doing. He went to the press and revealed to them one
of the largest government run data collection programs. The US government did not take kindly to
what he had done.
Snowden fled from Hawaii to Hong Kong without proper 30 day notice. He did

Zimbardo s Prison Experiments
Zimbardo s (1971) Stanford s prison experiment concluded that people will readily conform to
the social roles they are expected to play, especially if the roles are as strongly stereotyped as
those of the prison guards. However, the study has received many ethical criticisms including the
lack of informed consent from participants, as even Zimbardo did not know what was going to
happen within the experiment. The participants playing the role of prisoners were not protected
from psychological harm, experiencing incidents of humiliation and distress. As an example, a
prisoner had to be released after 36 hours due to uncontrollable bursts of screaming, crying and
anger.
In Zimbardo s defence, the emotional distress experienced by the prisoners could not have been
predicted. Extensive group and individual debriefing sessions were held and all participants
returned post experimental questions several weeks and months later, then at yearly intervals. It
was concluded there were no lasting negative effects. However, Zimbardo s experiment did have an
effect on psychology as a science as it made psychologists look deeper into the ethical implications
of experiments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Heart Disease On The Heart
The heart is one of the body s most vital organ, it pumps blood throughout the body specifically
organs and tissues that need oxygen and nutrients that the heart carries. It also helps to remove
waste products we do not need. If the heart does not work properly multiple organs would not be
able to function. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men
and women. Cardiovascular disease affects more than 1 in 3 adults in the United States. The
most common type of heart disease in America it has been estimated killing over 370,000 people
is Coronary heart disease 1.More than 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States
which is approximately 1 in every 4 deaths 1. Is our heart failing or are we failing our heart?
Everyone wants to maintain a healthy heart that functions well. People do not intend on damaging
their heart. But few bad habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol can cause a negative impact
on our hearts. For example, cigarette smoking is very common in America7. But did you know
the carbon monoxide in tobacco smoke can greatly diminish the amount of oxygen carried in the
blood. There s a number of activities that people don t think can have bad effects on the heart.
Such activities include: sitting all day, over stressing, depression, and poor dieting, drinking too
much alcohol, and not being physically active Most Americans love indulging alcohol. I mean why
not grab a cold drink after work? That s what happy hour

Spirit Healing Native American Magic And Medicine Summary
In the book Spirit Healing Native American Magic Medicine by Mary Dean Atwood she claims
how ritual helps all the negativity get blocked out. Ritual quiets the mind, making it accessible

Essay on Crisis Management
Situational Analysis: Flight 232 Cecille Hayes Argosy University Module 5 The purpose of this
assignment is to develop leadership and crisis management skills by using a real life case study
example (Argosy Lecture Notes, 2013). Case Study This paper focuses on United Airlines (UA)
Flight 232, a DC10 aircraft that was en route from Denver to Philadelphia via Chicago. It was
forced to make an emergency landing in Sioux City, Iowa due to an engine failure. The flight
carried 296 passengers and crew members (Argosy Lecture Notes, 2013). Part 1: Personal Profiles

Negotiation and Leadership Skills Exhibited by Selected Character Captain Al Haynes showed
remarkable personal and leadership skills in a crisis situation. Some of these are as follows: 1)
Bravery He faced the challenge head on and dealt with it fearlessly. 2) Leading by Example He
was a hands on leader who made sure that the work that needed to be done was clearly
understood by his crew. 3) Passion He believed in what they are doing to handle the situation and
this was projected onto his crew (Lewicki, Barry, and Saunders, 2006). 4) Confidence He
believed in his skills to accomplish his goal. 5) Delegation He delegated the throttles to Denny
Fitch in order to focus on attempting to steer and preventing the aircraft from rolling. A great
leader knows that he cannot do everything and is able to delegate effectively (Yoskovitz, 2007).

Ben Mezrich s The Accidental Billionaires
The Silicon Valley is the most ferocious jungle in the world, full of money, lying, love, and hate.
Programmers have one mantra: Keep up or die trying. Ben Mezrich beautifully embodied all of
this in his book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook. Facebook, now a $547

hacker who was so advanced he was on an F.B.I watchlist, and Eduardo Saverin, a genius investor

Mark got reprimanded, and he decided to take up a more well perceived project. Two very rich

Vibration transmission has been reported to cause back problems because of tissue failure or from
metabolic interference, or a combination of both.
Vibration occurs in all moving bodies and tractors are no exception. It results from the interaction
of the vehicle with the rough terrain and from the power source. The level of ride vibration on
tractors during normal operation frequently exceeds the internationally accepted levels. The
analysis of the ride vibration is a complex issue especially for off road condition, as the vibration
is in category of multi degree of system and cawed by many components, in the system. Operating
speed, surface conditions, wheel air pressure, tire cas stiffness, mounting mechanism of the seat,
cab or body parts cause infirnth variable outcome.
A considerable amount of time and energy has been spent in minimizing this vibration problem.
Suspended seats fitted to most tractors reduce the vertical component of vibration, but the levels are
still undesirably high and there is little potential for further improvement using this technique. A
further reduction in the vibration level may be obtained by introducing wheel suspension, but it
makes the system complicated and costly. Cab suspension is another method of

Military Historians And Theorists Postulate That Napoleon...
Many military historians and theorists postulate that Napoleon invented modern warfare. This
belief is not true. Although there are aspects of how Napoleon fought that are used by many
modern armies today, and his tactics and philosophy of fighting should continue to be studied,
Napoleonic warfare is not fundamentally similar to modern warfare. Napoleon implemented ideas
that modern armies use today; however the Revolutions in MilitaryAffairs (RMAs) of the Franco
Prussian Wars and American Civil War
, and the military revolutions of World War I, and the
Nuclear Age dictate to a greater degree how modern warfare is practiced. Military officers
around the world still study Napoleon, but that does not mean that he and his style of warfare
invented modern warfare. Napoleon is still relevant today because those that studied him such as
Clausewitz and Jomni were able to distil Napoleon s Operational Art which is very relevant to
military commanders and strategists today. Napoleon also introduced to Europe and the world
how to build, maneuver and effectively use large armies, corps and echelons higher, and how to
motivate soldiers. (take from The Rise of Napoleon). However, Napoleon and his adversaries still
fought battles, not in combat, which is continues conflict that stretches for weeks and months. No
new innovations came from Napoleonic warfare. He and his rivals still used similar weapon
systems and tactics. Napoleon s genius and success lay in his ability to maneuver

Developmental Math Syllabus
Essay 1
I teach developmental mathematics courses for struggling math students at the Community
College of Philadelphia. For many students, this is where the community college experience
begins in a remedial arithmetic or algebra class, reviewing mathematics concepts they learned, or
should have learned, before they graduated from high school. As I reviewed the course syllabus
and class requirements on the first day of a new semester, Scott, an older male student shouted
out a barrage of questions: What do we need this for? Can we take tests over? How many classes
can we miss? His tone was hostile, and all eyes were fixed on me and my reaction.

I teach in a computer lab and incorporate technology in the classroom. I use a supplemental online
program by Pearson Education, Math Lab Plus (MLP), to reinforce the material. The program has
an online discussion component. To foster a sense of community in the classroom, the first
assignment I post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and
aspirations for taking the course. I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen
and heard and that I care about their success. As part of their participation grade, students are
required to respond to two other students in the course. This helps them recognize they are part of a
community of learners and not just another student lost in the crowd. Students are placed in
cooperative learning groups where they work with a partner to improve their understanding of
different math concepts.
Additionally, I use a toolbox of leadership strategies that are implemented throughout the semester
including: reflective practice, naming and reframing the questions that arise and analyze the results,
integrating theory into practice. Carl Buehner said, They may forget what you said, but they will
never forget how you made them feel.

effective leaders. Currently, we are exploring Angela Duckworth s work looking at how we can

The Great Gatsby Narrator Analysis
A narrator is a character who recounts the events of a novel. These characters narrate the novel in
their point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable
due to bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person
narrator, tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the
novel. Nick is an unreliable narratorbecause he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and
the events that occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout
the novel, and speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s
death is seen as unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself.
Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has
with them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known
(Fitzgerald 59). Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that
he is insecure. Early in the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him
when he was younger. He says, Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that
all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve
all judgments (1). Nick s desire to be an authentic narrator, compels people to trust him and his side
of the story.

Descriptive Essay On My Grandmother
Granddaughter Peeping through the blinds, I wave goodbye to my mom in her red, Mercedes
Benz, and to my dad in his white, Toyota van, watching them go opposite directions towards
work. I stumble across the couch, leaving indents from my knees, and walk into the kitchen
where my grandmother stands with her familiar gray mug filled with steaming coffee and two
cubes of sugar. As I walk to her side at the counter, I reach into a pink, plastic fruit basket
containing ripe treasures purchased from Lion s Supermarket. Two fruits: an apple and an
orange, immediately sit upon my two hands. Shoving the round red into my grandma s eyes, I
await an answer. She squints, wrinkles deepening on her forehead, as if the apple was the
challenge question on a math test. Or...ange, she says. I shake my head, and sound out the
beginning letters of the fruit I was offering, until the word, apple, struggles out of her mouth. We
both smile at the accomplishment as she points down at the orange and correctly states its name,
confident in fashion. This calls for celebratory peeled orange and sliced sweet apple. Two weeks
and two fruits, teaching my Chinese grandma some English words marks the biggest
accomplishment of my first grade self. My first vivid memory of her, back when she wore floral
button ups from China, cooked egg fried rice for our summer lunches, and washed my hair in the

The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War
The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946
after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the
Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very
dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail
the disappearance of mankind.
In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person
who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR
The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into
a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created
military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles
and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all
local military conflicts on the planet.
In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent
promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of
international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and
create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins
after the war, while other countries at that time could not even

Identifying Elements
Identifying Elements There are many ways to identify unknown elements, such as the methods
used in this lab like density, conductivity and reactivity. However, there are many different types,
one of which is mass spectrometry and another is x ray spectroscopy. Mass spectrometry is a
way to measure relative masses of isotopes and their abundance. This is used to identify an
element because an element s isotopes will have abundances different from any other element, as
well as a completely different set of masses. These results are determined using a mass
spectrometer that can separate ionized charge, weigh it and figure out how much of the isotope
was in the sample. The element that is going to be analyzed must be vaporized in a gas in order
for the MS to scan it. The element is then put in a high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characteristic X ray spectroscopy is similar to any other spectroscopy in that is excites electrons
and then measurable energy is released and measured qualitatively and compared to well known
facts and quantitative data is derived. X rays can be excited by high energy beams made up of
electrons, protons or even other x rays. These beams are shot at the core of an atom and an inner
electron excites and moves to an outer shell. When it calms back down it releases energy. This
type of spectroscopy can be used to analyze and identify all elements on the periodic table except
for hydrogen, helium and lithium. Under characteristic X ray spectroscopy, there are two types:
energy dispersive and wavelength dispersive. In energy dispersive x ray spectroscopy, a
semiconductor detector measures the energy of incoming protons while in wavelength dispersive
x ray spectroscopy a single crystal diffracts the protons and then the crystal is moved so that all
emissions are visible. Once again a graph is made that is specific to an individual element and the
element can be identified by the

Analysis Of George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four ( 1984 )...
Throughout the novels, we see both authors presenting the consequences of a controlling
regime, and the severe dystopia that came about due to the political and social oppression which
was taking place across Europe and USA. Whilst both books were being written, Orwell and
Dick were facing the threat of Communism taking over the world. In 1949, Orwell published
Nineteen Eighty Four (1984), and the world was in turmoil, it was a war stricken society filled
with death and disappointment. Orwell s futuristic vision of society immediately tapped into the
fear and uncertainty that was so prevalent at the time. Dick who wrote his book 14 years later
than Orwell and Dick uses The Man In the High Castle (HC) as a foreshadowing of what could
have happened, if the Nazis had of won the war. Both the authors present an obviously
controlling society to the reader, which results in rebellion and exposing the flaws in the
system. Both of these books ask the reader many different questions, not only about the
endangerment of the future, but also, what it s like to live in such a controlling society. The
presence of spies and secret rebellions show the struggles the regimes come under; interestingly
both Orwell and Dick show that as quickly as a regime can be created it can also be destroyed. In
these texts it is clear to see that a controlling society causes the behaviour of people to change. I
1984 the behaviour of these people gets worse and worse, but in HC, the changes in behavior

Essay On Changing Car Oil
While most people nowadays, rarely think about changing their car oil. But little do they know,
that regularly changing a car s engine oil is one of the most important things you can possibly
do to keep a car running without any problems or mishaps. Without regular oil changes, the old
oil inside of a car, will break down and clog a car s oil filter, causing a hefty price for repairs and
replacements. The general population, might not know this, but changing the oil of a car is both
inexpensive and easy.
The change begins by driving the car into a driveway or a spot with enough allocated space to

As soon as the oil cap bolt has been screwed back on, new oil has to be added. Locate the the fill
hole at the top of the engine. If location cannot be verified, look to the left of the engine, and
there should be a cap. Before anything is done, it is heavily recommended that vehicle capabilities
are checked in the owner s manual, to insure how much oil the vehicle can take. Too much oil
intake may cause blockage, so please be wary.
Once the new oil has been inserted, it is recommended that the engine is turned off and on to
double check that everything is running smoothly with the oil pressure. This can be verified, by
checking the red engine light turn off and on after startup. If that is not the case, then a bolt is not
tightened properly, and is oozing out liquid or oil.
As another verification method, the dipstick can be pulled out of the vehicle to double check the
pressure. This is located to the bottom left of the engine. It generally looks like a long metal rod.
Simply pull this out, and check to see if both holes on the bottom of the stick are shaded in with
oil. If this is the case, then a successful oil change has been

My Teaching Ideas and Theory Applications
I believe every child can succeed in mathematics, and it is my role to unlock this potential. I aim to
teach in ways that help children develop cooperation, assertion and responsibility, as well as a good
understanding of subject matter. I believe this can be achieved by creating a culture in the
classroom that is built gradually on trust, with a common language, through rules that we create
together, and by practicing procedures until they become nearly automatic. I aim to use the
resources, materials, and curriculum requirements I have to work with, to engage my students in
meaningful learning. I believe that children want to learn, and that it is motivating for pupils when
they and their teacher s are enthusiastic about learning, too.
It is my aim to adopt a social constructivist approach as a teacher. This will mean encouraging
collaboration and work with other people; building on what children already know; scaffolding
lessons to develop learning; improving mathematical language through communication; allowing
children to experiment and explore new concepts for themselves. Yackel et. al. (1990) claim
learning occurs not as students take in mathematical knowledge in ready made pieces but as they
build up mathematical meaning on the basis of their experience in the classroom.

Honk! Honk! Seat belts buckled? Have you ever wondered how America looked while
sightseeing down Route 66 back in the past? As you often travel down a flat, straight road, you
are thinking this road trip is terrible, but when you get on Route 66 you feel like a bird soaring
through the sky. Most people choose to ride on the interstate to get to places quicker, while in
my opinion taking the back roads is way better because you get to explore new sights. Way back
in history route 66 was a unique road to travel on, and the story The Best of America is on the
Blue Highways, really explains why. This author gives great examples of driving on Route 66,
and what it represents. Route 66 represents America and its beautiful features. In the story the
author states, Route 66, to me, represents America before we had the same stores at every mall
and the same restaurants along every Main Street. It represents an America where people could
open a diner or a tourists attraction or a store on the town square and do something unique and
interesting and make a living at it. It has many original features, along with many distinctive
places. Many people often opened small businesses along this highway. This historic road led
people to many places, such as, Chicago to Santa Monica. This road was also known as THE road.

We get to enjoy some, much needed, sightseeing. The author was very effective in proving that
this highway represents America and its sovereignty. The author always thought that road was
taking him back in time. The author proclaimed that this was THE road, and in my opinion he is
correct. From past knowledge this road is not just any ordinary road. It is a road that makes you
feel like you can soar, and you also feel like it is taking you to the past! Just think of how it used
to be. Its amazing now, but back when there was several tourist attractions this road would be

Social Inequalities Within New Zealand Essay
This essay will be discussing the social inequalities within New Zealand. These inequalities can
include unequal income, education and healthcare. Through extensive research of academic
resources, I will be discussing how educational, family, social and political factors contribute to the
development of these inequalities. I will also be providing a line graph that shows the unequal
income between classes and a second line graph that demonstrates the difference in student success
between high decile and low decile schools.
Society holds many structures that mould human performance and produce opportunities for some,
but inequalities for others (Morrall, 2009). These structures in society are organized by the
hierarchies of class, ethnicity and gender (Crossman, 2016). Due to having a society based on
hierarchies, social inequalities are inevitable. Social inequality refers to the ways in which a group
or individual of a certain social position may receive unequal opportunities or distribution of goods
such as education, income, living conditions and healthcare (Walker, 2009). These unequal
opportunities may be given to someone because of their ethnicity, gender, income, religion or social
class (Walker, 2009). For example, people in a high social class will be able to pay for their
children to go to a good private school for a good education, whereas lower class or working class
people will struggle to afford the same education.
There are two main components to social

Democracy In America, By Alexis De Tocqueville
In Democracy in America, written by Alexis De Tocqueville, numerous notions of threats claim to
be dangerous to the relatively new democratic government of the United States. Yet, one threat
endangers the democratic system of government the most, which is the tyranny of the majority. The
American democracy is one that contains many great freedoms, including equality amongst all
people. Citizens have the freedom to form their own opinions and say anything they want,
regardless of what others think. Therefore, why does Tocqueville stress that the tyranny of the
majorityand how could this overthrow America s democratic government? Tocqueville stresses the
equality of every citizen s opinion, which therefore asserts that nobody has a better opinion than
someone else. The only opinion that seems to have any impact is that of the majority, because why
would the opinion of the minority be better than the majority? Tocqueville claims that the people
will always favor the majority, which in turn will lead to a tyranny of that majority. The tyranny of
majority occurs through popular opinion, no true freedom of thought, and powerful legislative
politicians who only create laws to please the majority. However, there are a few factors that
mitigate this tyranny, including a decentralized administration of the majority, lawyers and their
power within the judiciary branch, and how the power of a jury teaches citizens their freedoms.
Tocqueville displays the tyranny of the majority as a

5. The release of a toxin from the cholera bacteria is what causes people to experience the dreadful
symptoms. A negative health concern of killing the cholera at a quick rate is that since the phages
will prevent symptoms from increasingly becoming worse, the dead cholera in the intestine may sit
there for a longer amount of time instead of running straight through the person which may do more
damage to the intestine.

bacteriophage is particular to a certain bacteria. If the bacterial cell exhibits traits that are desirable
to the certain bacteriophage, then the phage will chose to bind and infect it, otherwise people have
nothing to worry about.

King Lear Evil Vs Evil
Second, there is nothing wrong with being a villain if society mistreats the evil character.
Although society should be against evilness, a villain may justifiably perform evil acts if he is
not treated fairly by society. King Lear, a play that involves the theme of man versus nature, is a
perfect example of this. Edmund, one of the main evil characters in the play, must overcome the
social ridicule that comes with being a bastard. In the beginning of the play, Edmund should not
be blamed for how evil he acts since society refuses to respect his dignity. It seems that since
Edmund has no one with whom he can reveal his evil deeds, he likes to express his feelings and
plans out to the audience. As Cindy Erdin explains:

In fact, some acts seem impossible to reenact in real life because it makes the audience think
about if some villains are really life like to them. In any case, exploring the villains purpose and
development throughout stories are important as they assist the audience in understanding why
evil characters deserve to be where they end up. For this reason, villains can still have the right
motives to perform evil acts as long as they are not too observed in themselves. In specific, the
villains can only act evil towards the characters that have done something unjustifiably against
them. However, in most cases, if villains are taking their evil out on characters that never wronged
them, then they prove why evil characters never triumph in the end. In Othello and King Lear, Iago
and Edmund were fascinating characters to dissect because they are both evil in their own way.
With Iago, the audience can see that he is the greatest manipulator of mankind and he enjoys
interacting with them. Moreover, Iago is able to entertain the audience with his practical jokes but
in the end, he gets carried away with his hatred on innocent women and causes a bloodbath. On the
other hand, Edmund had a much serious conflict to deal with as he is fighting for his social rights

Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones Essay

Summary of The Embalming of Mr. Jones
In the essay The Embalming of Mr. Jones, (1963), Jessica Mitford is describing a procedure of
embalming of a corpse. She writes that people pay a ton of money each year, but not one in ten
thousand has any idea of what actually takes place, and it is extremely hard to find books and any
information about this subject. She assumes that it must be a reason for such secrecy, and may be if
people knew more about this procedure, they would not want this service after their death.
Mitford writes that embalming has long tradition in America, but it used to be performed at home,
and all members of the family had to witness the procedure. ... Show more content on

When this done, the corpse s face is heavily creamed to protect from chemical burns from leakage
that can happen, a body is covered and left for eight to ten hours to dry.
The next procedure involves cleaning and cosmetic restoration of the corpse. Before starting
restoration, the body is washed, shaved, and hair is shampooed. If the body has missing limbs,
they are replaced with molds of plaster. If the head is off, its edges are trimmed and it is sewn to
the torso. After cleaning and patching procedures, taking care of swollen parts of the face, the
body is dressed, and the mortician makes last touches. He covers the corpse s skin with pleasantly
colored make up, combs hair, and manicures the hands.
The body is now ready for casketing. Like in any business, there are some special secrets to
casketing. According to Mitford, the right shoulder of the body has to be depressed slightly to
turn the body a bit to the right and soften the appearance of lying flat on the back. Positioning the
hands and feet is as important as everything that was done before. There are special rubber blocks
that are used for this purpose. Finally, the body is placed in the casket as high as possible, and the
mortician gives attention to the last details.
Now the body is ready for exposition and moved into a slumber room. The last touch can be done

Essay on A Shropshire Lad
Shropshire: A Place of Imagined Sexual Contentment
Published in 1869, A.E. Housman s A Shropshire Lad stands as one of the most socially acclaimed
collections of English poetry from the Victorian age. This period in British history, however,
proves, by judiciary focus (the Criminal Law Amendment of 1885), to be conflictive with Housman
s own internal conflicts concerning the homoerotic tendencies which he discovered in his
admiration of fellow Oxford student Moses Jackson. Housman, much unlike other English literary
figures such as Oscar Wilde and Thomas hardy, was not an artist who found it necessary to directly
confront Britain with any political dissention imposed by is works. Instead, amp;quot;for Housman

Then in the sixth stanza the quatrain is consistent with this tone as the speaker informs the dead ma
that his girl is no longer mourning his death (l. 22) and that amp;quot;the act of love he had
enjoyed with his sweetheart amp;quot; much like everything else amp;quot;is also repeated without
him amp;quot; (Hoagwood 63). The speaker meanwhile becomes somewhat evasive by imploring
his old friend to amp;quot;Be still. . . and sleep amp;quot; (l.24). Finally the dead man inquires (ll.

Is my friend hearty,
Now I am thin and pine,
And has he found to sleep in
A better bed than mine?
To which the speaker s response in the last stanza presumably indicates that he is involved with the
amp;quot;dead man s sweetheart amp;quot; (l. 32).
The question posed in the poem s penultimate stanza is one of various interpretation concerning the
last line. The initial response tends to be that the dead man is asking if his old friend is sleeping in
a amp;quot;better bed amp;quot; than the coffin in which he is buried; thus, stands as an example
of the colloquial speech Housman employs throughout A Shropshire Lad. Other interpretations
suggest that the dead man is asking his friend of his financial status, happiness, or even that the
dead man is intimating knowledge that his friend was sleeping with his sweetheart prior to his
death. What seems more plausible is

Why The Giant Panda Is One Of The Most Misunderstood Animals
The Giant Panda is one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. For many years, it was
believed to be a type of racoon, like the similarly named red panda. However, genetics testing and
observation have revealed that the panda is in fact, a bear. It has several adaptations that make it
unusual. First is the fact that it has six digits on the front paws, giving it an opposable thumb ideal
for holding onto the stalks of bamboowhich it consumes in great amounts. The genitalia of the
male are rear pointing and small which is also decidedly bearish, and much more like those of the
red panda. It has only been since 1995 that the Panda has been officially considered a bear.

Peru is a country long plagued by political violence. The Shining Path is by far the largest and most
successful of Peru s terrorist organizations. Shining Path initiated its first operations against the
Lima regime in 1980. In the intervening years, it quickly became the most serious security problem
that the Peruvian government faced. Few political movements, inside or outside of Peru, could
match its fanaticism and extreme ideology. The Shining Path must be singled out for its simple
ruthlessness. Murder, dynamite bombings, and arson are its instruments of political violence. Few
terrorist groups in modern times have employed violence with the same determination, lack of
discrimination, and widespread effect as the Shining Path.

Despite the fact that Nixon continued to diminish American troop strength in South Vietnam, the

The book Half Breed by Maria Campbell tells the life story of Maria Campbell and the conditions
she lived in as a half breed women. Maria Campbell was born in a home where Cheecum, her

African American region. His historical works helped form American literature and politics. Hughes
just like others active in the Harlem Renaissancehad a robust sense of racial vanity. Through his

Persuasive Speech On Vaccines
In this speech, I will explore how vaccines relate to increased health issues, how the vaccination
industry has failed to ensure vaccine safety protocols, and what we can do to create a safer and
healthier environment in the future for all of us. Ultimately, the goal is to open a space in which
people can decide to accept the message shared, which is that vaccinationcould be a serious issue
that truly exists, affects us directly, and needs to be resolved.
First, I introduce the problem by providing factual information that supports the proposition that
vaccines could be the reason for serious health issues. The first example from Dr. William Torch
gives official study results which show that two thirds of the babies who received the DPT vaccine
died shortly after from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Miller). The second example of the pilot
study report in the Journal of Translational Science comparing unvaccinated and fully vaccinated
children shows how vaccines negatively influenced the health of the vaccinated children (Bigtree

free people. Since many US Navy individuals contract Diabetes I after enlistment, the numerous
vaccines these individuals are required to take during their service are considered responsible for
the autoimmune disease (Coulter). The last example reveals that, according to a study conducted

The, The Melting Pot, And The World
Culture is described as the set of beliefs, customs, ways of thinking and behaving that exists in a
particular society. Meanwhile, the act of having a sense of reality can be described as knowing
the world or the state of things as they exist. Reality has a flimsy definition because one s own
reality could be different compared to another. However, a person s culturewill affect how they think
and thus manipulate their perception of reality. Common examples of this are: route of upbringing,
political views, holistic medicinal approaches and most importantly, religion. The United States of
America has many different cultures present throughout the entire nation. That is why it is
commonly referred to as the melting pot of the world. This being said, people raised in different
parts of the United States will be apart of different cultures and thus different senses of reality.
Someone raised in the South will have a different culture than someone raised in the North.
While this doesn t completely alter their sense of reality, it does affect it. Even two neighbors
will have different senses of reality because in general, upbringing affects reality. Being
optimistic will create opportunities and also impact how to live your life on a day to day basis

Persuasive Essay For Physical Therapy
If anyone has ever played a sport or been in a competition, they know how it feels when they are
stuck on the sideline or on the bench while one knows they could be helping their team in the
game. Nobody wants to be injured and have that kind of feeling any longer than they have to.
Every player wants to get back to being healthy and on the hardwood or the pitch as fast as
possible. Those feelings never go away, and there is not many careers that one can pursue to keep
that feeling. If one is not talented enough to become a professional athlete, the opportunities are
slim. One way to stay around the life an athlete has been accustom to for so many years of their
life, is to go into the field of sports physical therapy. This helps a person be around the athletes and

therapyrequires determination and the will to see things through and to get things done, one who is
planning a career in physical therapy will first need a good education and degree. Also, one needs
selflessness, respect, and accountability. Finally, a physical therapist needs good leadership
qualities to push patients in prevention and rehabilitation. First of all, the education to become a

Physical therapy schooling is a very expensive program to go through. On average, for a resident of

relationship between life expectancy and income different in countries that are growing
endogenously?
Using a cross sectional data with 30 observations, this paper finds the relationship between life
expectancy and income in countries that are growing endogenously. After gathering the data and
doing the regression analysis using STATA, even though it is true that there is a positive
correlation between the two variables, income has a very small impact towards life expectancy.
There are other factors that would have a bigger impact to change life expectancy.
1. INTRODUCTION
Economists would often try to find a certain relationship between different variables. The
relationship that was found is then shown to other economists, and people would start trying to
either approve it right, or the other way, approve it wrong. One theory that is known to be proved
correct is the relationship between life expectancy and income. However, there are still people who
are trying to disapprove this theory as the world economy has changed.
Known as the Preston Curve, this theory is an empirical cross sectional relationship between life
expectancy

The Use Of Diuretics And Its Effects On Quality Of Life
While laxatives may be necessary for short term, acute cases of constipation, they are
contraindicated for long term use. Overuse of laxatives can cause a reduction in colon motility,
diarrhea, and incontinence (Day et al., 2014). This leads a cycle of chronically alternating
constipation and diarrhea that significantly affects quality of life. Over use of laxatives is also
associated with dehydration, tachycardia, and electrolyte imbalances. These side effects not only
affect quality of life but can exacerbate other comorbid medical conditions (Day et al., 2014).
Non pharmacological interventions are much safer. Most have few to no side effects. In the dietary
fiber studies mentioned above, gastrointestinal symptoms were the only side effects reported, and
even those were not significantly different than the symptoms reported by the placebo group
(Gallegos Orozco et al, 2011; Lever, Cole, J., Scott, Emery, Whelan, 2014; Yang et al., 2012). Even
patients without constipation, and those with diarrhea symptoms have healthier bowel movements
with an increase in dietary fiber (Rodrigues Fisher et al., 1993). Exercise, probiotics, biofeedback,
and education likewise have no negative side effects, and can even positively affect other chronic
health conditions.
Concurrent Use
Non pharmacological treatment of constipation is not only effective and safe; it also coexists well
with pharmacological treatment of constipation. Non pharmacological interventions do not
interfere with

Comparing My Darling Clementine And Once Upon A Time In...
The use of an audio mise en scГЁne is used treated uniquely in both clips. In My Darling
Clementine, as Wyatt and Clementine are watching the festivities, and even though there is a
permeating sound of feet stomping, music playing, and happy chatter, we can still clearly hear
Wyatt asking Clementine to dance. With Once Upon a Time in the West, a layered collection of
soundeffects is used instead of any dialogue or musicto emphasize the silence of the train station
and eventually the arrival of the train itself.
Sound mixing is also used in both clips, but with differing effect. In My Darling Clementine, as
Wyatt and Clementine walk towards the dancing on the church foundations, we gradually hear the
music and dancing grow louder, emphasizing their relative position and the audience s awareness of
their location. In Once Upon a Time in the West, when one of Harry s men walks underneath the
relatively loud windmill, the next cut that focuses on him has the sound of the windmill muffled,
which emphasizes the outlaw s perspective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In My Darling Clementine, the relatively quiet spot where Wyatt and Clementine are talking is
interrupted by the permeating music and dancing, and upon their arrival, the previously unrestricted
conversation is made awkward by Wyatt s contemplation of dancing. In contrast, with Once Upon a
Time in the West, each outlaw has their own sound acting independently from the sound effects and
other outlaws. This rhythm is then broken by the arrival of the train, as all the sound effects
previously dominating the scene are now dominated by the train, which focuses all the sound on

Canadian Rebellions
List some of the impacts of the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada
There are many lasting impacts of the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada that are even
present today 200 years later. First is that Canada has a democratic government. During the
rebellions, Canadians could elect representatives but the representatives had very little power. The
government didn t care about the thoughts of the common person. Today the people cast votes for
the Prime Minister instead of it already being decided by a counsel of rich people. He cares about
people s opinions and tries to appeal to them to win office. Another way Canada has been
influenced is we are one country and are multicultural. Back in 1837 Canada was divided into two
parts the French speaking

Who Is Melia In The Ruined Maid
In Thomas Hardy s poem, The Ruined Maid, the maid is ruined from past behaviours which
have led her to become an ostracized victim of the Victorian society. The term ruined in the
Oxford Dictionary can mean broken down, neglected, as well as un cared for (Oxford
Dictionary), while in the poem, being ruined refers to the maid being impure, labelled, and
unworthy. The inscription of language and imagery, as well as the ideas of social class,
permanence of labelling in society are used in this conversation poem to answer why Melia has
been ruined.
The language between Melia and the first speaker are very different, as if they come from
different classes. The friend communicates with slang, and now you ve gay bracelets and bright
feathers (Hardy 6) while Melia responds with appropriate phrasing. The fact that the first speaker
once knew Melia suggests that Melia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melia s ostracized life is demonstrated through the depiction of language and Victorian morality
views; the relationship between labelling and Melia s ruined self is established within the time
that the poem was published. Thomas Hardy being a late Victorian poet furthers this ideology of
ostracized women in the Victorian era with the use of his inscription. In the Victorian era, it was
considered socially acceptable to have women who had premarital sex publically shamed by
wearing certain garments and acting a certain way on the streets (Prostitution of Young Females in
London). People who behaved toward the act and semblance of prostitution were then scorned
because it was a symbol of impurity and tainted life (Prostitution of Young Females in London).
Premarital sex was one of the worst things that a woman could do because they would ruin their
chances of achieving a normal life. Melia s life was then ruined because of prostitution or pre
marital sex which led her to such

Reading Anne Frank Diary
Anne Frank: a young Jewish girl who lived in Europe with big dreams, and an even bigger heart.
She had the jaw dropping ability to touch the hearts of millions around the world with her heart
wrenching story swirling within the pages of her diary. She wrote down all her feelings in her
little red checkered diarywith the hopes of living to see it published and red by little children all
over the world. Unfortunately, only half of that statement is true. Reading Anne Franks diary is a
truly mind opening experience, and a plethora can be learned from it. Reading the play and
watching the movie has given me some topics to say about her life and experience. Reading
Anne s diary has affected me in quite of bit of ways. It s like seeing a glimpse into her life, her
feelings, how she was treated by her family, and how she interacted with the rest of the people
staying at the Annex. She was very creative and bright, and a funny light hearted character. She
personally made me want to appreciate the little thingsin life a lot more, and to appreciate what I
have. Because who knows? Someday you could be swept up in a war that has nothing to do with
you, except for you religion. I was also stuck with a crushing depressed feeling deep in my chest,
knowing this girl who wasn t much older then me died before she could see her dreams take flight.
Imagine what it must be like to constantly be wondering if you will ever have a future.
There are plenty of subjects that can be learned from

Colombia
Colombia is a country that is characterized not only by its natural diversity, but also for its natural
resources, geography and multiculturalism. Among the problems faced by the Colombian society,
are: drug trafficking, corruption and the lack of education. The culture of Colombia is a direct
influence of other cultures. The native Indians of Colombia, which for centuries have been
inhabiting the lands of Colombia, still having great influence on the Colombian people. The
Spaniards, who during the conquest, colonized the land. And finally the African culture, as a
product of the colonization, the Spaniards and various other conquering brought slaves from Africa
to work the land. This mixture of cultures constitutes a society with traits common to the rest of
Latin American countries, but at the same time, very different also. Indeed, even within Colombia s
own territory there is many differences between regions and others. Geographic diversity can be
found from tropical beaches to mountains of more than 5,000 meters in height with perpetual
snows and the natural isolation of some areas has led to this diversity. Some of the most important
cultural groups according to their location are the so called cops, located in the Altiplano
Cundiboyacense; the countries, settled in Antioquia; The foresters, Settlers of the eastern plains;
the Vallunos, settled in the area of Valle del Cauca; the coastal,

Does Neutralization Cause Crime
Criminals who commit crime neutralize the belief that their crime is bad by way of using
neutralization techniques which are denial of injury, denial of the victim, condemnation of
condemners, appeal to higher loyalties and self fulfillment. Neutralization does not cause crime
however it does give offenders reasons to commit crimebecause it causes them to feel that what
they are going to do is not that bad.
It is reported that hackers found it easier to crack software codes, access and download files or
commit digital piracy because they feel they are not stealing but copying files. Offenders feel as
though offenses done by computers are not the same as taking a physical item this in turns causes
the offender to feel they caused injury.

My Life At The Medical School
When I started observing life, I was grandson of a carpenter, son of a businessman and a house
wife, brother of a veterinarian and two sisters. I found everyone loving and caring for me. They
equipped me with every single tool to make my way smooth toward my goal. I worked hard,
stayed focused and got admission in medical school. Being a medical student was more interesting
than what I imagined before going to the medical school. I found medical sciences dynamic and
versatile. I studied well and enjoyed every single aspect of my life at the medical school.
On the last day of my 4th year in medical school, I received a call from my brother about my
nephew. My nephew lost consciousness due to vomiting and dehydration with pneumonia at the
age of 1 year. I rushed to hospital and when I reached, I saw my nephew was in coma. I found it
hard to bear the tears in the eyes of my brother and rest of my family. He was diagnosed with
ketoacidosis due to type 1 diabetes. He opened his eyes on 7th day of his admission with
manifestations of severe cerebral insult. After the discharge, he had several similar episodes with
normal blood sugar levels and it was described as honeymoon period for the disease. During an
episode, we took him to another tertiary care facility where he was diagnosed with organic
academia. The pediatric Gastroenterologist Human Arshad and pediatric Neurologist Akbar Malik
took special interest and helped us to recover from the episode. Unfortunately no diagnostic

Hands Of Stone Psychological Theory
Hands of Stone is a 2016 film, directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz. The film is a biopic based on
Panamian boxing legend, Robert Duran, played by Edgar Ramirez. The film shows his rise from
a poor street boxer to a feared amateur known for his free spirit and early knockouts. In his quest
for greatness he meets the love of his life, Felicidad (Ana de Armas), illustrious boxingcoach Ray
Arcel (Robert Di Nero), and goes head to head with American champion Sugar Ray Leonard(Usher
Raymond). Through the lens of basic needs theory, an individual s motivation is determined by how
well a situation fits the individual s needs (Fraser Thomas, 2017). More specifically in the domains
of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Throughout the film, Duran experiences... Show more

Autonomy involves feeling ownership over behaviour in such a way that one s actions stem
from a sense of perceived choice internal control (Fraser Thomas, 2017). Autonomy exhibits a
positive relationship with motivation, so when feelings of autonomy are low, motivation levels
will decline accordingly. It can understood that in the first fight with Leonard, Duran seeks and
initiates the fight on his own free will. During this fight when Felicidad, Ray, and what Duran
perceives as all of Panama is supporting him, his perceived autonomy is at an all time high and
as a result so is his motivation. He goes on to dominate Leonard and give him his first defeat to
become world champion. The second fight is a completely different dynamic. Since Eleta agrees
to the fight without Duran s permission, he feels violated. He is completely stripped of his
autonomy because he no longer possesses a sense of perceived choice and internal control.
Furthermore when Leonard begins insulting him at the press conference and his wife winks at
Leonard, he begins to feel a loss of control and that everyone is turning against him. Finally during
the fight when he tells Ray he thinks the size of the ring is rigged he displays a complete lack of
autonomy. It leads to him forfeiting the match and displays that without autonomy, motivation will
be very low or even completely

Persuasive Essay On Spending Money
According to GoBankingRates.com, almost 57% of Americans say they have less than $1,000
in their savings account, while 39% say they have no money into a savings account. Also, a
survey by BankRate relieved that almost 60% of Americans wouldn t be able to pay for a $500
expense because they don t have enough saves. I will ensure that I will have more than $1,000 in
my savings account when I get older by understanding that decisions I make now will impact my
lifestyle drastically and that it is smarter to save and then spend when needed instead of being in
growing debt. When I m older I will have a structured savings plan, so I can ensure that I will have
enough wealth to live off of and enough money to cover any unexpected expenses or debts that I
may have. As a teenager, I can invest my money, and save as much money as I can before I m
older. I can do this by not spending money on things that I know will not benefit me long term, and
by trying to earn money from various sources such as my parent or family and different jobs.
A study by COUNTRY Financial shows that 36% of Americans would rather be concerned with
paying for their next vacation then have good retirement savings. Americans are more concerned
with paying for their vacations than saving enough for retirement because we would rather spend
and live a lavish life now than being smart with our money and saving it for retirement or when we
might need it. When I retire I want to have enough money to be able to travel

Zimbardo s Prison Experiments Zimbardo s (1971) Stanford s prison experiment concluded that people will readily conform to the social roles they are expected to play, especially if the roles are as strongly stereotyped as those of the prison guards. However, the study has received many ethical criticisms including the lack of informed consent from participants, as even Zimbardo did not know what was going to happen within the experiment. The participants playing the role of prisoners were not protected from psychological harm, experiencing incidents of humiliation and distress. As an example, a prisoner had to be released after 36 hours due to uncontrollable bursts of screaming, crying and anger. In Zimbardo s defence, the emotional distress experienced by the prisoners could not have been predicted. Extensive group and individual debriefing sessions were held and all participants returned post experimental questions several weeks and months later, then at yearly intervals. It was concluded there were no lasting negative effects. Vibration occurs in all moving bodies and tractors are no exception. It results from the interaction of the vehicle with the rough terrain and from the power source. The level of ride vibration on tractors during normal operation frequently exceeds the internationally accepted levels. The analysis of the ride vibration is a complex issue especially for off road condition, as the vibration is in category of multi degree of system and cawed by many components, in the system. Operating speed, surface conditions, wheel air pressure, tire cas stiffness, mounting mechanism of the seat, cab or body parts cause infirnth variable outcome. A considerable amount of time and energy has been spent in minimizing this vibration problem. Suspended seats fitted to most tractors reduce the vertical component of vibration, but the levels are still undesirably high and there is little potential for further improvement using this technique. • 11. Military Historians And Theorists Postulate That Napoleon... Many military historians and theorists postulate that Napoleon invented modern warfare. This belief is not true. Although there are aspects of how Napoleon fought that are used by many modern armies today, and his tactics and philosophy of fighting should continue to be studied, Napoleonic warfare is not fundamentally similar to modern warfare. Napoleon implemented ideas that modern armies use today; however the Revolutions in MilitaryAffairs (RMAs) of the Franco Prussian Wars and American Civil War , and the military revolutions of World War I, and the Nuclear Age dictate to a greater degree how modern warfare is practiced. Military officers around the world still study Napoleon, but that does not mean that he and his style of warfare invented modern warfare. Napoleon is still relevant today because those that studied him such as Clausewitz and Jomni were able to distil Napoleon s Operational Art which is very relevant to military commanders and strategists today. Napoleon also introduced to Europe and the world how to build, maneuver and effectively use large armies, corps and echelons higher, and how to motivate soldiers. (take from The Rise of Napoleon). However, Napoleon and his adversaries still fought battles, not in combat, which is continues conflict that stretches for weeks and months. No new innovations came from Napoleonic warfare. These characters narrate the novel in their point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable due to bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person narrator, tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the novel. Nick is an unreliable narratorbecause he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and the events that occur, like Gatsby s death. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s death is seen as unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself. As I walk to her side at the counter, I reach into a pink, plastic fruit basket containing ripe treasures purchased from Lion s Supermarket. Two fruits: an apple and an orange, immediately sit upon my two hands. Shoving the round red into my grandma s eyes, I await an answer. The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946 after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail the disappearance of mankind. In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all local military conflicts on the planet. In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins after the war, while other countries at that time could not even ... However, there are many different types, one of which is mass spectrometry and another is x ray spectroscopy. Mass spectrometry is a way to measure relative masses of isotopes and their abundance. This is used to identify an element because an element s isotopes will have abundances different from any other element, as well as a completely different set of masses. These results are determined using a mass spectrometer that can separate ionized charge, weigh it and figure out how much of the isotope was in the sample. The element that is going to be analyzed must be vaporized in a gas in order for the MS to scan it. The element is then put in a high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Characteristic X ray spectroscopy is similar to any other spectroscopy in that is excites electrons and then measurable energy is released and measured qualitatively and compared to well known facts and quantitative data is derived. X rays can be excited by high energy beams made up of electrons, protons or even other x rays. These beams are shot at the core of an atom and an inner electron excites and moves to an outer shell. When it calms back down it releases energy. This type of spectroscopy can be used to analyze and identify all elements on the periodic table except for hydrogen, helium and lithium. Under characteristic X ray spectroscopy, there are two types: energy dispersive and wavelength dispersive. In energy dispersive x ray spectroscopy, a semiconductor detector measures the energy of incoming protons while in wavelength dispersive x ray spectroscopy a single crystal diffracts the protons and then the crystal is moved so that all emissions are visible. • 19. Analysis Of George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four ( 1984 )... Throughout the novels, we see both authors presenting the consequences of a controlling regime, and the severe dystopia that came about due to the political and social oppression which was taking place across Europe and USA. Whilst both books were being written, Orwell and Dick were facing the threat of Communism taking over the world. In 1949, Orwell published Nineteen Eighty Four (1984), and the world was in turmoil, it was a war stricken society filled with death and disappointment. Orwell s futuristic vision of society immediately tapped into the fear and uncertainty that was so prevalent at the time. Dick who wrote his book 14 years later than Orwell and Dick uses The Man In the High Castle (HC) as a foreshadowing of what could have happened, if the Nazis had of won the war. Both the authors present an obviously controlling society to the reader, which results in rebellion and exposing the flaws in the system. Both of these books ask the reader many different questions, not only about the endangerment of the future, but also, what it s like to live in such a controlling society. The presence of spies and secret rebellions show the struggles the regimes come under; interestingly both Orwell and Dick show that as quickly as a regime can be created it can also be destroyed. In these texts it is clear to see that a controlling society causes the behaviour of people to change. I 1984 the behaviour of these people gets worse and worse, but in HC, the changes in behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. My Teaching Ideas and Theory Applications I believe every child can succeed in mathematics, and it is my role to unlock this potential. I aim to teach in ways that help children develop cooperation, assertion and responsibility, as well as a good understanding of subject matter. I believe this can be achieved by creating a culture in the classroom that is built gradually on trust, with a common language, through rules that we create together, and by practicing procedures until they become nearly automatic. I aim to use the resources, materials, and curriculum requirements I have to work with, to engage my students in meaningful learning. I believe that children want to learn, and that it is motivating for pupils when they and their teacher s are enthusiastic about learning, too. It is my aim to adopt a social constructivist approach as a teacher. This will mean encouraging collaboration and work with other people; building on what children already know; scaffolding lessons to develop learning; improving mathematical language through communication; allowing children to experiment and explore new concepts for themselves. Yackel et. al. (1990) claim learning occurs not as students take in mathematical knowledge in ready made pieces but as they build up mathematical meaning on the basis of their experience in the classroom. As you often travel down a flat, straight road, you are thinking this road trip is terrible, but when you get on Route 66 you feel like a bird soaring through the sky. Most people choose to ride on the interstate to get to places quicker, while in my opinion taking the back roads is way better because you get to explore new sights. • 23. Social Inequalities Within New Zealand Essay This essay will be discussing the social inequalities within New Zealand. These inequalities can include unequal income, education and healthcare. Through extensive research of academic resources, I will be discussing how educational, family, social and political factors contribute to the development of these inequalities. I will also be providing a line graph that shows the unequal income between classes and a second line graph that demonstrates the difference in student success between high decile and low decile schools. Society holds many structures that mould human performance and produce opportunities for some, but inequalities for others (Morrall, 2009). These structures in society are organized by the hierarchies of class, ethnicity and gender (Crossman, 2016). Due to having a society based on hierarchies, social inequalities are inevitable. Social inequality refers to the ways in which a group or individual of a certain social position may receive unequal opportunities or distribution of goods such as education, income, living conditions and healthcare (Walker, 2009). These unequal opportunities may be given to someone because of their ethnicity, gender, income, religion or social class (Walker, 2009). For example, people in a high social class will be able to pay for their children to go to a good private school for a good education, whereas lower class or working class people will struggle to afford the same education. Democracy In America, By Alexis De Tocqueville In Democracy in America, written by Alexis De Tocqueville, numerous notions of threats claim to be dangerous to the relatively new democratic government of the United States. Yet, one threat endangers the democratic system of government the most, which is the tyranny of the majority. The American democracy is one that contains many great freedoms, including equality amongst all people. Citizens have the freedom to form their own opinions and say anything they want, regardless of what others think. Therefore, why does Tocqueville stress that the tyranny of the majorityand how could this overthrow America s democratic government? Tocqueville stresses the equality of every citizen s opinion, which therefore asserts that nobody has a better opinion than someone else. The only opinion that seems to have any impact is that of the majority, because why would the opinion of the minority be better than the majority? Tocqueville claims that the people will always favor the majority, which in turn will lead to a tyranny of that majority. The tyranny of majority occurs through popular opinion, no true freedom of thought, and powerful legislative politicians who only create laws to please the majority. However, there are a few factors that mitigate this tyranny, including a decentralized administration of the majority, lawyers and their power within the judiciary branch, and how the power of a jury teaches citizens their freedoms. Although society should be against evilness, a villain may justifiably perform evil acts if he is not treated fairly by society. King Lear, a play that involves the theme of man versus nature, is a perfect example of this. Edmund, one of the main evil characters in the play, must overcome the social ridicule that comes with being a bastard. In the beginning of the play, Edmund should not be blamed for how evil he acts since society refuses to respect his dignity. It seems that since Edmund has no one with whom he can reveal his evil deeds, he likes to express his feelings and plans out to the audience. As Cindy Erdin explains: [Villains] use soliloquies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, some acts seem impossible to reenact in real life because it makes the audience think about if some villains are really life like to them. In any case, exploring the villains purpose and development throughout stories are important as they assist the audience in understanding why evil characters deserve to be where they end up. For this reason, villains can still have the right motives to perform evil acts as long as they are not too observed in themselves. In specific, the villains can only act evil towards the characters that have done something unjustifiably against them. However, in most cases, if villains are taking their evil out on characters that never wronged them, then they prove why evil characters never triumph in the end. In Othello and King Lear, Iago and Edmund were fascinating characters to dissect because they are both evil in their own way. With Iago, the audience can see that he is the greatest manipulator of mankind and he enjoys interacting with them. Moreover, Iago is able to entertain the audience with his practical jokes but in the end, he gets carried away with his hatred on innocent women and causes a bloodbath. She writes that people pay a ton of money each year, but not one in ten thousand has any idea of what actually takes place, and it is extremely hard to find books and any information about this subject. She assumes that it must be a reason for such secrecy, and may be if people knew more about this procedure, they would not want this service after their death. If the body has missing limbs, they are replaced with molds of plaster. If the head is off, its edges are trimmed and it is sewn to the torso. After cleaning and patching procedures, taking care of swollen parts of the face, the body is dressed, and the mortician makes last touches. He covers the corpse s skin with pleasantly colored make up, combs hair, and manicures the hands. The body is now ready for casketing. Like in any business, there are some special secrets to casketing. According to Mitford, the right shoulder of the body has to be depressed slightly to turn the body a bit to the right and soften the appearance of lying flat on the back. Positioning the hands and feet is as important as everything that was done before. There are special rubber blocks that are used for this purpose. Finally, the body is placed in the casket as high as possible, and the mortician gives attention to the last details. Now the body is ready for exposition and moved into a slumber room. Nobody wants to be injured and have that kind of feeling any longer than they have to. Every player wants to get back to being healthy and on the hardwood or the pitch as fast as possible. Those feelings never go away, and there is not many careers that one can pursue to keep that feeling. If one is not talented enough to become a professional athlete, the opportunities are slim. One way to stay around the life an athlete has been accustom to for so many years of their life, is to go into the field of sports physical therapy. This helps a person be around the athletes and continue to benefit a team while still retaining a stable career to support a family. Although physical therapyrequires determination and the will to see things through and to get things done, one who is planning a career in physical therapy will first need a good education and degree. Also, one needs selflessness, respect, and accountability. Finally, a physical therapist needs good leadership qualities to push patients in prevention and rehabilitation. First of all, the education to become a physical therapist is expensive and prolonged, but in the end it proves to be worth every bit. Physical therapy schooling is a very expensive program to go through. On average, for a resident of the state it cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Cross Sectional Relationship Between Life Expectancy And... ABSTRACT According the Samuel. H. Preston, there is an empirical cross sectional relationship between life expectancy and income. Named after him, the Preston Curve shows that there is in fact a positive correlation between the two variables. To discuss the topic above, this brings up the research question of this paper, that is: Is the relationship between life expectancy and income different in countries that are growing endogenously? Using a cross sectional data with 30 observations, this paper finds the relationship between life expectancy and income in countries that are growing endogenously. After gathering the data and doing the regression analysis using STATA, even though it is true that there is a positive correlation between the two variables, income has a very small impact towards life expectancy. There are other factors that would have a bigger impact to change life expectancy. 1. INTRODUCTION Economists would often try to find a certain relationship between different variables. The relationship that was found is then shown to other economists, and people would start trying to either approve it right, or the other way, approve it wrong. One theory that is known to be proved correct is the relationship between life expectancy and income. However, there are still people who are trying to disapprove this theory as the world economy has changed. Known as the Preston Curve, this theory is an empirical cross sectional relationship between life expectancy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Use Of Diuretics And Its Effects On Quality Of Life While laxatives may be necessary for short term, acute cases of constipation, they are contraindicated for long term use. Overuse of laxatives can cause a reduction in colon motility, diarrhea, and incontinence (Day et al., 2014). This leads a cycle of chronically alternating constipation and diarrhea that significantly affects quality of life. Over use of laxatives is also associated with dehydration, tachycardia, and electrolyte imbalances. These side effects not only affect quality of life but can exacerbate other comorbid medical conditions (Day et al., 2014). Non pharmacological interventions are much safer. Most have few to no side effects. In the dietary fiber studies mentioned above, gastrointestinal symptoms were the only side effects reported, and even those were not significantly different than the symptoms reported by the placebo group (Gallegos Orozco et al, 2011; Lever, Cole, J., Scott, Emery, Whelan, 2014; Yang et al., 2012). Even patients without constipation, and those with diarrhea symptoms have healthier bowel movements with an increase in dietary fiber (Rodrigues Fisher et al., 1993). Exercise, probiotics, biofeedback, and education likewise have no negative side effects, and can even positively affect other chronic health conditions. Concurrent Use Non pharmacological treatment of constipation is not only effective and safe; it also coexists well with pharmacological treatment of constipation. Non pharmacological interventions do not interfere with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Comparing My Darling Clementine And Once Upon A Time In... The use of an audio mise en scГЁne is used treated uniquely in both clips. In My Darling Clementine, as Wyatt and Clementine are watching the festivities, and even though there is a permeating sound of feet stomping, music playing, and happy chatter, we can still clearly hear Wyatt asking Clementine to dance. With Once Upon a Time in the West, a layered collection of soundeffects is used instead of any dialogue or musicto emphasize the silence of the train station and eventually the arrival of the train itself. Sound mixing is also used in both clips, but with differing effect. In My Darling Clementine, as Wyatt and Clementine walk towards the dancing on the church foundations, we gradually hear the music and dancing grow louder, emphasizing their relative position and the audience s awareness of their location. In Once Upon a Time in the West, when one of Harry s men walks underneath the relatively loud windmill, the next cut that focuses on him has the sound of the windmill muffled, which emphasizes the outlaw s perspective. ... In My Darling Clementine, the relatively quiet spot where Wyatt and Clementine are talking is interrupted by the permeating music and dancing, and upon their arrival, the previously unrestricted conversation is made awkward by Wyatt s contemplation of dancing. In contrast, with Once Upon a Time in the West, each outlaw has their own sound acting independently from the sound effects and other outlaws. This rhythm is then broken by the arrival of the train, as all the sound effects previously dominating the scene are now dominated by the train, which focuses all the sound on ... • 44. Canadian Rebellions List some of the impacts of the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada There are many lasting impacts of the rebellions of Upper and Lower Canada that are even present today 200 years later. First is that Canada has a democratic government. During the rebellions, Canadians could elect representatives but the representatives had very little power. The government didn t care about the thoughts of the common person. Today the people cast votes for the Prime Minister instead of it already being decided by a counsel of rich people. He cares about people s opinions and tries to appeal to them to win office. Another way Canada has been influenced is we are one country and are multicultural. The inscription of language and imagery, as well as the ideas of social class, permanence of labelling in society are used in this conversation poem to answer why Melia has been ruined. Melia s ostracized life is demonstrated through the depiction of language and Victorian morality views; the relationship between labelling and Melia s ruined self is established within the time that the poem was published. Thomas Hardy being a late Victorian poet furthers this ideology of ostracized women in the Victorian era with the use of his inscription. In the Victorian era, it was considered socially acceptable to have women who had premarital sex publically shamed by wearing certain garments and acting a certain way on the streets (Prostitution of Young Females in London). People who behaved toward the act and semblance of prostitution were then scorned because it was a symbol of impurity and tainted life (Prostitution of Young Females in London). The film shows his rise from a poor street boxer to a feared amateur known for his free spirit and early knockouts. In his quest for greatness he meets the love of his life, Felicidad (Ana de Armas), illustrious boxingcoach Ray Arcel (Robert Di Nero), and goes head to head with American champion Sugar Ray Leonard(Usher Raymond). Autonomy involves feeling ownership over behaviour in such a way that one s actions stem from a sense of perceived choice internal control (Fraser Thomas, 2017). Autonomy exhibits a positive relationship with motivation, so when feelings of autonomy are low, motivation levels will decline accordingly. It can understood that in the first fight with Leonard, Duran seeks and initiates the fight on his own free will. During this fight when Felicidad, Ray, and what Duran perceives as all of Panama is supporting him, his perceived autonomy is at an all time high and as a result so is his motivation. He goes on to dominate Leonard and give him his first defeat to become world champion. The second fight is a completely different dynamic. Since Eleta agrees to the fight without Duran s permission, he feels violated. He is completely stripped of his autonomy because he no longer possesses a sense of perceived choice and internal control. Furthermore when Leonard begins insulting him at the press conference and his wife winks at Leonard, he begins to feel a loss of control and that everyone is turning against him. Finally during the fight when he tells Ray he thinks the size of the ring is rigged he displays a complete lack of autonomy. It leads to him forfeiting the match and displays that without autonomy, motivation will be very low or even completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will ensure that I will have more than $1,000 in my savings account when I get older by understanding that decisions I make now will impact my lifestyle drastically and that it is smarter to save and then spend when needed instead of being in growing debt. When I m older I will have a structured savings plan, so I can ensure that I will have enough wealth to live off of and enough money to cover any unexpected expenses or debts that I may have. As a teenager, I can invest my money, and save as much money as I can before I m older. I can do this by not spending money on things that I know will not benefit me long term, and by trying to earn money from various sources such as my parent or family and different jobs. A study by COUNTRY Financial shows that 36% of Americans would rather be concerned with paying for their next vacation then have good retirement savings.
