Pre-engineered System (NFPA 17A)
A-2.9.2, Pre-engineered systems do not need
calculations for flow-rate, pressure drop, and nozzle
pressure since they have been tested for fire
extinguishment with minimum and maximum piping
limitations.
These limitations have been (PERFORMANCE TESTED)
& verified by testing laboratories (UL) and are
published in the manufacturer’s (UL 300) listed
installation and maintenance manual (Part No. 418087)

Pre-engineered System (UL 300)
The UL 300 approved Ansul R-102 Fire Suppression
System has specific pipe sizes with maximum number
of fittings.
The system also includes maximum and minimum pipe
lengths, numbers of fittings, temperatures, discharge
heights, and number and types of nozzles needed for
each hazard.

Pre-engineered System (UL 300)
The hazards protected by the R-102 system are
specifically limited as to type and size based on actual
fire tests, splash tests, and flow testing.
All approved hazard protection & piping & nozzle
configurations are contained in the UL 300 listed R-102
Design, Installation, and Maintenance manual (Part No.
418087), UL File Number (UN EX 2470).

Sequence Of Operation
1. Faulty limit switch(s) in a
fryer cause an overheat
condition, auto-igniting the
cooking oil.

2. Heat, generated from the fire, follows the air flow into
the plenum, transfers to the fusible link causing it to
separate, resulting in slack in the detection cable.

3. Spring tension trips the AUTOMAN
Regulated Release Mechanism,
puncturing a seal in the cartridge. N2
or CO2 flows from the cartridge and
pressurizes the tank.
