HISTORY OF ROCK
•   Originated in the United States in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s.
•   It is primarily from a combination of Blues, country and jazz.
•   Typical instruments include electric guitars, string bass, bass guitar, drums, piano,
    saxophone and vocals.
•   One of the best selling music since the 1950’s.
•   In early rock (late 1940’s to early 1950’s), the saxophone or piano was the lead
    instrument but was later replaced in the late 50’s by the guitar.
•   Drum kit has been the standard backbeat of rock music since it was created.
IMAGERY
•   Rock is stereotypically associated with the black hair, leather jacket, smoker type of
    people.
•   Typical instruments that are thought to be in rock include guitar, drums, bass, piano,
    vocals and maybe saxophone.
•   Predominately Caucasian ethnic background.
