2. Heavy Metal music
• Music with roots in blues rock and psychedelic/acid rock, the bands that created heavy
metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion,
extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness…costume choice is ranges from
dead bird masks in Slipknot to just a dark top and jeans in Iron Maiden, predominantly dark
and unsaturated outfit choice. As far as locations go heavy metal usually have their videos
based in places that are dark and dirty like a sewer or a warehouse for example in slipknot’s
the devil in I the video is based in some dark old church
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEEasR7hVhA Also in this video you can see that they
use dark gloomy colours associated with death like dark green, black and sometimes red. The
theme that the video seems to be portraying is scariness and monsters this theme is created
through the scary church and the monster esc costumes that they are all dressed in.
Representations- in Iron Maidens –run for the hill
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86URGgqONvA the band give the representation that
they are rebellious by including videos of an on going fight throughout their video. Another
representation is created by the spikes on their outfits this suggests they are trying to
represent danger and harm, furthermore the fact that the spikes are on the clothing suggests
they themselves are dangerous. Heavy metal usually includes props like weapons to signify
danger and big dirty trash cans to represent dirtiness and the street.
3. Pop music
• Pop music is music appealing to the popular taste, including rock and
pop and also soul, reggae, rap, and dance music. For example the
music in G-eazy’s ‘Me, Myself and I’ is rap music but while it was in
the charts would be referred to as Pop. Costume in pop music is
typically very modern and attractive.
