1. Question 1
Write a brief history of your chosen
genre list of band/ artist names.
2. Rock Music
• Rock music is a genre of popular music that
originated as "rock and roll" in the United
States in the 1950s, and developed into a
range of different styles in the 1960s and later,
particularly in the United Kingdom and the
United States. Many rock and roll artists
where brought into the genre such as Elvis,
Elton John and David Bowie. Bands such as
The Rollin Stones and The Who are bands
from that time period.
3. 2015 Rock Music
• Rock Music now has developed furthermore
overtime into something new. Plenty of different
sub-genres have branched out from Rock music
such as classic rock, metal and nu metal. Rock
music can counter for any of these branched out
genres and that has changed overtime. Most of
the bands that fit nu metal (for example Linkin
Park) have been inspired by classic rock and rock
as a whole. Some artists and bands range from
rock all the time as they’re including different
genres through different albums and songs.
4. Examples
• Classic Rock Metal
• Led Zepplin Black Sabbath
• Metallica Slayer
• Iron Median Avenged Sevenfold
• Modem rock Nu Metal
• Neck Deep Bring Me the Horizon
• Rival Sons Enter Shikari
• Imagine Dragons Linkin Park
6. • Imagine Dragons have a unique sense of
dress code as a band overall. They’re all
individuals that show the sheer
difference between them just by the
way they dress. The taller man in the
middle (Dan) has a darker clothing
sense then everybody else which if
further analyses was needed, this would
suggest that he has quite a dark
personality. In addition to that, this
band are not lacking in terms of fashion
sense as they’re quite fashionable. Also
due to the whole band being male, fits
the stereotype of rock bands only
featuring male members.
• Iron Madien are all wearing black which
fits into the genre of rock purely
because the music can be seen as
heavier and faster then pop for
example. I feel that this may be too
much for my magazine (to have them all
wearing black but if a group was to
appear on the front cover, they should
be wearing different colour tops as it
challenges the stereotype of people
assuming that rockers just wear black.
7. Question 3
Location/ mise-en scene pictures
All of these locations are very dark and create
a scenes of rock atmosphere. If I was to pick a
background/ location, these types of
backgrounds would be the ideal locations I
would choose from. I personally feel that I
wouldn’t use any of these locations for a main
image on a front cover of a magazine, despite
the fact that it could work, I think it would
look better on a double page spread due to
the fact that there is a lot going on.
8. Question 4
Clothing that people would wear on my
magazine
• This type of clothing is very individual
and creates personality for the
different people furthermore this is
the kind of thing I would like to
include in my front cover of my
magazine. They’re all wearing
different coloured clothing as well as
different jackets and this also makes
it unique as well as taking away the
stereotype of people assuming that
all rockers wear one type of clothing.
In my magazine, I would have the
model wearing a white t-shirt with a
black jacket or if it was a group of
people I will make sure that they’re
all wearing different clothing. If I
9. Question 5
• I’m not planning on having too
much makeup but I was to
include makeup to fit the
genre I would include dark
coloured makeup as it’s
stereotypically shown on
those who listen to rock music.
This is purely due to how the
music is faster and heavier
then most pop music and the
dark is quite clearly showing
that furthermore its also
showing this through the
clothing as well as the
makeup.

11. Question 7
• In terms of rock bands and artists getting into the
charts, they very rarely get into the top 40 unless
a well known band releases a new single, most of
the time it doesn’t last that long in the charts.
Bands such as Iron maiden and Metallica will
make it to number one (if not close to)- this is
due to their popularity and how they appeal to
an new and older audience. Bands such as Bring
Me The Horizon have been known to make it into
the top 40 and this is due to how they appeal to a
lot of younger people.
12. Question 8
These are all people I know that would fit
into my magazine in terms of style and
fashion sense. The top two pictures are
shot in a concert and have a live feel for
the music where as the bottom three are
people posing for the shot and have a
more modern feel to the genre. In addition
to that, the bottom three images are more
likely to be featured in my magazine due to
how they look more modern.
15. • The article goes into detail of the loss of there beloved drummer.
Not only does the article pick quite a touchy subject and make it
motivational, it also informs their fans on what they’re doing next
in terms of music. Furthermore the pictures show the band
members quite down and not looking at the camera, which from
that readers can straight away notices that the article is going to be
something deep and meaningful. To the left on the one page,
shows four of the band members looking upset and down where as
at the top right on the other page shows all of the band members
together ‘happy’. By doing this helps show who's past on if fans
didn’t already know and just visually without reading the article,
you understand that the contrast between the two pages and the
sheer differences in images.
17. • Been as this article was in the early days of Imagine
Dragons, they didn’t make it onto the front cover
main image nor did they have a double page spread
but despite all that, the article looks at how they’re
becoming more of an icon to rock music.
Furthermore the articles talks about how they’ve
created such a huge following with only one album
being released at the time. I like the article because it
talks about the sheer shock they all have with how
popular they became just after an album being
released.
