Idea Explanation and Examples Advantages Disadvantages
Rising Crime Rates -
Lauren Rosenfeld
In the year 2017, the crime rate in
Redbridge has far exceeded the UK
average crime rate across similar
areas. The main sources of crime were
from anti social behaviour, burglary,
robbery, vehicle crime and violence.
683 more crimes were reported in the
last year, which is 242% more crime
than national average. There were also
352% more burglary/theft offences
than average, 250 anti-social
behaviour crimes reported and 177
violent and drug offences reported.
The number of homicides, weapons
offences, criminal damage charges,
incidences of shoplifting and acid
attacks have all seen an increase. Due
to these increases in crime rates within
the Borough of Redbridge, it is
important that the local residents are
made aware of them in order for them
to feel safe in their community. By
creating a social action project on the
rising crime rates, we will not only
One advantage of creating
this social action project is
that we have the technical,
equipment to create a
professional production. This
means that there is the
possibility of a lot of people
watching it and spreading the
word on the rising crime rates.
More people will also want to
watch it if it runs well, due to
our experience in creating
short films.
Another advantage is that we
and the audience will learn
more about our local area, due
to the research we will have to
undertake. This coincides with
Blumer and Katz's uses and
gratifications theory, in which
people actively seek out
specific media to satisfy their
specific needs. The audience
However, there are also some
disadvantages that may
prevent us from creating the
video. One of these is time
constraints, as we only have a
certain amount of time to film
the video. Especially as we
have to film interviews,
reconstructions etc. Therefore
we will need to make sure we
stick to deadlines in order to
have the most amount of time
to film the video. If we run out
of time this would result in a
low quality production that
would deter people from
watching it.
Another disadvantage are our
finances. We will need to
make sure that the budget is
well done in order for us to
create a professional
production. If we spend our

inform the public, we will also have
informed potential criminals of the
implications of committing crimes in
order to deter them from doing so.
East London is also the epicentre of
acid attacks, and Redbridge has the
fourth highest recorded rate in the
capital. This means people may feel
unsafe, especially as acid attacks can
have both emotional and physical
effects on a person's health. Therefore,
i have chosen rising crime rates as a
potential social action project, as if
nothing is done, it will keep on rising,
and become out of control. This
project will also raise awareness of the
rising crime rates and what the locals
can do about it in order to lower it,
and stop them from rising further.
For the social action project, i will
interview several different people who
have experienced different types of
crime within the area, ranging from
theft and anti social behaviour to acid
attacks, to hear how the crime has
affected their lives. We may also be
able to contact the local police
are responsible for choosing
media that meets their needs,
especially if they are
interesting in local issues that
may affect them.
Another advantage of creating
a social action project based
on the rising crime rates is
that it is a niche in the market.
Meaning that it has not been
done before and no one has
looked into creating a video
on it, which would benefit the
community. By having an idea
which is niche, this means that
there is the possibility of
several people watching it as
it is brand new information
that they have not seen
before.
Another advantage is that by
interviewing people who have
experienced crime we can
help them and they can
discuss their emotions with us.
This may also help anyone
money wisely this will
contribute to us creating a
video that looks good so that
others are encouraged to
watch it.
We also need to stick to legal
constraints. For example, we
cannot breach the defamation
act, which states that we
cannot damage another
person's reputation as they
will have the right to sue.
Therefore, we need to take the
time to make sure all pre
production documents are in
order especially the release
forms and that they are signed
by the right authoritative
figure. For example, if we are
to film on a location that
requires permission, we must
make sure to get the
permission forms, so that we
are able to film and finish the
project on time.
There are also ethical
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3

department to hear what they are
doing to stop the rising crime rates, so
that locals feel safer. Another thing we
will be able to show in the video are
reenactments of crimes that have
happened, which adds realism, and
may shock the audience into taking
action. We will also interview local
people on the high street, asking if
they feel safe and what should be
done about it if they don't, which
means we will get a range of opinions.
In the past two years 528 of the 800-
odd acid attacks took place in east
London, with the victims usually male
and in their 20s. Acid Survivors Trust
International (ASTI) is a not-for-profit
charity whose sole purpose is to end
acid violence at a global level.
Executive director Jaf Shah stated “It
does seem like within the criminal
community acid is becoming the
weapon of choice,” he said. “It’s very
cheap and accessible.” Therefore,
something needs to be done to stop
the easily accessible sale of acid.

else who has been a victim of
crime and has not had the
chance to talk about it with
anyone. By adding in real life
experiences and having others
view it it may encourage them
to be safe in their
neighbourhood. For example,
if people say their experience
on being burgled this may
motivate others to install
security system stems and
cameras within their houses
which will in turn help police if
a criminal has been successful.
Another advantage of us
creating this video is that we
will raise awareness of the
types of crimes that are on the
rise, such as acid attacks and
how to remain aware at all
times. We will also highlight
common crimes that are still
prevalent such as theft, and
show reenactments to enforce
the idea to be aware,
particularly on the high street.
constraints, especially if we
were to interview victims of
crimes we would need to
remain professional and
consider others feelings.
Victims may feel
uncomfortable as this is a
sensitive topic and therefore,
we may need to build a
rapport to get them to open
up which would take time to
do.
Another disadvantage is that
the reconstructions may not
be realistic, and therefore, we
will need to select appropriate
actors to portray people. We
will also need to spend the
budget appropriately on
props that will add to the
realism.
Another disadvantage is that
we will have to spend a lot of
time researching people
within the area who have been
victims of crime. Once we

Burglary is also prevalent in
Redbridge, with 55 homes in every
thousand in Redbridge have suffered
break-ins in the last five years, which is
the highest in the UK. Redbridge
Council leader Jas Athwal stated that
burglary remains a top priority for the
Redbridge Safety Community
Partnership. He added “As part of this
work, we urge Londoners to take
action to safeguard their homes by
following our simple crime prevention
advice.”

have found people, they may
not want to feature in the
video, which means we have
wasted time and could cause
a disruption to the production.
Another disadvantage is that
when interviewing people on
the high street, we must
remain professional in order
to keep those we are
interviewing calm. The
interviewees may become
confrontational/aggressive if
they do not perceive the
question properly and
therefore we must be clear
when asking questions. We
may also have property stolen
by people passing by, thus we
must keep the equipment
close to us at all times and be
ready to report this to the
police.

threatening behaviour, violence or
abuse between those aged 16 or over
who are or have been intimate
partners or family members regardless
of gender or sexuality.”
The different types of abuse that
domestic abuse covers, but is not
restricted to include, psychological,
physical, sexual, emotional and
financial.
Controlling behaviour includes a range
of acts that are designed to make a
person subordinate and/or dependent
by isolating them from sources of
support, exploiting their resources and
capacities for personal gain, depriving
them of the means needed for
independence, resistance and escape
and regulating their everyday
behaviour. Coercive behaviour defines
as an act or a pattern of acts of
assault, threats, humiliation and
intimidation or other abuse that is
used to harm, punish, or frighten their
victim.
Domestic violence also includes so
aware of such issues. As
mentioned, domestic violence
is almost seen as a hidden
crime, due to the fact that
most cases of it, occurs behind
closed doors. By publicising
the truth about what does
happen for some women
when partners get home from
work or when the door shuts
and there are no longer out in
the public eye, videos and
documentaries such as ones
like this can help to make
people more aware of the
issue, what domestic violence
actually is, and what is
considered to be domestic
violence. It can also help to
inform the public that crimes
such as this can occur to
anyone, and what signs to
possibly look out for - if there
are any.
A second advantage of
creating this production, is
that we have the necessary
sensitive topic. As a crime that
does not always prevail itself,
and can be all three of
physically, emotionally and
mentally damaging, to ask
people or possible victims to
speak about the topic on
camera, may be a large ethical
issue. Moreover, if people
would like to feature in our
project and speak about such
an issue, they may not want
their faces shown on screen,
or they may wish to remain
anonymous. This means that
the actor or interviewee would
need to be filmed without
their own face, or real voice
and so all interviews with
victims of domestic violence
or other talent, would need to
be shown as a silhouette.
One huge ethical concern
presents itself, in terms of a
production on such a sensitive
topic. If people can relate, to
the subject that we are
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3
Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed
called ‘honour’ based violence,
including female genital mutilation
(FGM) and forced marriage - which are
both also illegal acts. It is clear to see
that victims are not confined to one
gender or ethnic group.
From the work and research that
Women's Aid carries out, they
concluded that domestic abuse is very
common. However this specific crime
is often very difficult to accurately
quantify. Considering domestic abuse
is a largely hidden crime that occurs
primarily at home, victims of the crime
and the crime itself may not be easily
identified. Victimised women often
don’t report or disclose domestic
abuse to the police, and they may also
under report domestic abuse in
surveys - particularly during face-to-
face interviews. In addition, statistics
do not always take into account
important context and impact
information. Such as what form of
abuse a victim may have been subject
to, or how many times the incident/
incidents occurred. When these factors
equipment to do so. Some of
the basic equipment that we
are eligible to use includes,
cameras, boom microphones
and tripods to name a few.
Not only do we have high
standard and quality
equipment, we also have the
relevant experience and
ability to use such pieces of
technology, due to using them
in our previous productions.
This in turn gives us the power
to create a realistic and
powerful project.
This style and theme of
production is one that is
Interesting and is only rarely
covered, which will hopefully
give us a chance to make our
production the most
successful that it can be.
Another advantage of creating
this project is that considering
we are trying to inform
anyone who is part of the
planning on informing and
educating viewers about, then
it may be hard for some
people to watch. It can be
both a sensitive topic for
possible victims of domestic
violence and younger viewers.
In addition it could-be a
distressing subject for both of
the above mentioned
audiences as well as others as
a consequence of the
possible inclusion of
distressing scenes.
Similarly, it will be extremely
hard to find talent and people
who will be willing to take
part in our project, as it is a
sensitive and personal subject.
A practical disadvantage that
as a group creating a
production on domestic
violence that we may come
across, is that it may not be
new information for our
intended audiences to find

are taken into account the gendered
nature of domestic abuse becomes
clearer.
This topic is one that is very important,
and it is crucial that people know
about it. This is because it is seens as
almost a ‘taboo’ subject in Redbridge.
One that is seen as too sensitive to be
spoken about, and therefore is almost
a secret crime, which should not be the
case.
It is an immensely important subject,
because of the harmful effects that it
can have on a victim physically,
emotionally and mentally. In turn,
people must know about it to be able
to help possibly deal with a person
who is a victim of such abuse, as well
as be able to spot out what the signs
of such a crime are. In Redbridge, as
mentioned it is not a subject that is
commonly spoken about and therefore
by creating this video, not only could it
be a conversation starter on the topic,
but it could also could lead men and
women to come forward about their
experience of being possible victims.
public and anyone could be a
victim, if the production
becomes popular and gets
publicity, then there is a
chance that it can be shown
all over the world. When
there is not such a specific
focus on domestic violence
crimes in England and Wales,
the worldwide statistics of
such a crime dramatically
increase.
Moreover, this production can
make people aware of what
they can do to help someone
that they may know to be a
victim of such abuse, on a
personal level . For example
be a friendly face to them,
report it to an agency such as
Women’s Aid or an institution
with higher authority, such as
the police, as well as support
those who may have
experienced or be subject to
such a type of crime.
out. If our target market and
primary audience are already
aware about the rising issue of
domestic violence - proven by
the statistics shown, then
there is a possibility that the
production could become
disinteresting for viewers to
watch. As a result, creating a
production based around both
domestic violence and
Women’s Aid, may be
pointless, and the hard work,
time and effort used to create
a project which can inform
people of the issue (which
would turn out that they
already know about) and
publicise it would have gone
to waste.
Programmes such as
Panorama and Dispatches
have created media
productions based on this
topic before and so to make
our successful, we must
ensure that it is audience

Some victims may be so used to this
abuse that they may see nothing
wrong with it, and may believe that it
is normal, and therefore this video

behaviour is a crime and needs to be
reported to the appropriate agencies.
In Redbridge, domestic violence has
not got as much exposure at it should
do, and by creating this video, it may
help to reveal the issue in greater
depth.
Key statistics provided by Crime
Survey of England and Wales (CSEW)
show that it is estimated that 1.3
million women experienced domestic
abuse in the last year and 4.3 million
women have experienced domestic
abuse at some point since the age of
16. In addition, on average two women
are killed by their partner or ex-
partner every week in England and
Wales alone.
Domestic abuse related crime is 10%
of total crime, an increase of 2% since
the previous year. Moreover it has

For example volunteer to
work on the help line, or
educate people about the
work they do, at events. As
well as benefit themselves by
learning more about the
charity, what it does and what
it aims to do.
A huge advantage of creating
this project is that we have
many contacts who would be
able to help and inform us on
the issue of domestic violence.
They may be able to give us
facts and statistics regarding
the crime. These contacts
include Women’s Aid, as well
as other charities.
Finally, another advantage of
this production is that it can
let women or men who are
possible victims of or subject

all of those that have been
done before.
If the production were to focus
on both the issue of domestic
violence, as well as Women’s
Aid, then ideally it would be
useful and informative for our
production company to film
some of the charity workers,
doing what they do on a daily
basis as well as interview
them and ask them what it is
that they do as a charity, what
their goal or goals are and
question how we - as the
public can help to achieve this.
One issue with this is that it
may be hard to film workers
as what they do is crucial, and
so we would have to film in
the workers free time - that is
is they have some. Moreover
to be able to film on the
charity's premises as well as
their workers, we would need

been averaged out that the police
receive over 100 calls relating to
domestic abuse every hour.
Last but not least, the volume of
domestic abuse prosecutions
completed rose in the year 2015/2016
to 100,930 from 92,779 in 2014/2015 –
this is the highest level ever recorded.

(92,851) of defendants were male and
7.9% (7,992) were female (in 87 cases
gender was not recorded). In addition,

release forms.
A massive disadvantage of
creating this project is a legal
consideration regarding the
talent that we may use or
need who are under the age of
16. If any talent of this age
range were to feature, they
would need parental consent.
Parents may not want to give
consent as the subject of the
project is one that may be
both distressing and upsetting
to some.
Not only will we need to find
talent who are over the age of
16 for parental consent
reasons, but also, we can't
have a programme full of
under 16 year olds because it
may seem too unrealistic, and
we want our production to be
a realistic as possible. Instead,
we would like and need an

actor who can portray and
reflect the situation of a
domestic violence case or
interview study as closely as
possible, to enhance the
projects realism. In addition,
talent must remain
anonymous to ensure that any
victim's reputation (who is
used in our production) is not
damaged and they do not
become a target or get
targeted by abusers or
audiences.
Swiftly linking on, finally the
last disadvantage of this
project is that we would have
to follow the Defamation Act
of 2013 to make sure that we
are not at risk of being
libellous towards ‘Women’s
Aid’ and ensure that we do not
damage the charity’s
reputation.
Recycling - Benjamin

Recycling helps to reduce energy
usage, which means it reduces the
consumption of fresh raw material, air
pollution and water pollution.

warming and its devastating
impacts. During waste

Recycling is not always cost-
effective. Building up a new

lot of capital. The

third bin is Paper which takes

Waste materials are collected through
drop-off centers, curbside collection,
deposit or refund programs. The waste
materials are then transported to a
materials recovery facility or recycling
centers where they are sorted out,
cleaned and processed into ideal
materials for manufacturing.
Manufacturing is when materials have
been recycled are converted to useful
products. Every year Redbridge
waste are combusted that
lead to emission of
greenhouse gases such as
carbon dioxide, sulfur, and
nitrogen, which contribute to
climate change and global
warming. The great benefit of
recycling waste material is
that it plays a big part in
protecting Mother Nature in
the most balanced way. While
many trees are felled every
day, recycled paper
manufactured from specific
trees is continually utilized to
reduce deforestation.
Recycling old and used
materials into reusable
products enormously reduces
the possibility of choking of
landfill sites. This is very
helpful because it helps
minimize land and water
pollution.
A major source of pollution
today is industrial waste that
comes from factories
producing plastics and cans. If
accompanying costs include
buying different kinds of utility
vehicles, upgrading the
recycling unit, waste, and
chemical disposal and
schooling the locals by
initiating useful programs.
recycling waste may not be
less costly as most people

both products are re-used,
instead of manufactured from
scratch repeatedly, pollution
can be reduced significantly.
Recycling also promotes
responsible and proper
management and disposal of
plastics and cans. Another
good advantage is Electronics,
old water bottles, and other
trash can be sold for cash. So
if you sell them, you not only
save the environment, but
make money as well. If you
buy recycled materials, which
costs less than the new ones,
you will also save money. The
more money you will make
and save if you re-use some of
the trash that your home
produces. Recycling can help
minimize the cutting of trees,
which are used to make paper.
So, by cutting less trees and
producing more recycled
paper, we preserve the
environment for future
generations. Besides that,
inefficiency, making it less
effective than what everyone
wants to believe. Moreover,
recycling still failed to dent
demands. The demands for
aluminum, for example,
increase about 10% every
year, but the amount of
recycled aluminum falls short.
Another disadvantage is The
need for extra bins for
different kinds of trash will
also be needed. This can
equate to more trucks to pick
them up which then means it
would increase air pollution.
Collecting garbage on a daily
basis may leave debris on the
streets and recovery sites,
rendering these places
unhygienic. Aside from that,
recycling companies might
abandon dump sites and
leave harmful chemicals to
contaminate the land and the
environment. If chemicals are
left on land which are harmful

contagious. Recycling is only
the first step of many towards
preserving the environment.
This is because they believe
that the only real benefit of
recycling is slowing the
damage of humans. They also
believe that unless humans
really know the extent of the
damage of waste, recycling
will remain of little value to a
lot of people.
Pollution - Nikon
Ahamed
Pollution is the introduction of
substances that can affect the natural
environment and can cause various
problems. Pollution can also be in the
form of energy, such as noise, heat or
light. Pollutants, the components of
pollution, can be either foreign
substances/energies or naturally
occurring contaminants. There are
mainly three types of pollution that
can affect a local community and these
are: air pollution, water pollution and
land contamination.
Specifically talking about air pollution
One advantage of creating a
project dedicated to pollution
includes the fact that this will
address a problem that is
affecting not only the local
borough, but also the entire
world as it is being urbanised
as days pass. Also due to the
equipment we dispone
information will be spread out
digitally which may be visible
by the vast majority of the
people as nearly everyone

A clear disadvantage of this
social project is that it requires
a certain budget which we
don’ t dispone as much and
this is due to the fact that we
have to compete against other
students who are going to
produce high quality products
which means that we will have
to invest more in order to
create a good final product.
Alongside the problem of
competitiveness, there is also
the fact that pollution is a
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3

which is the most impactful in such an
urbanised city, it has been calculated
that it causes a staggering one in 14
deaths in Redbridge and is knocking
years off residents’ life expectancy.
Also, recent findings have exposed
dangerously high levels of toxic
pollutants in the borough, especially
around the A406 for example, in South
Woodford, which is one of the worst
roads in the entire country.
A report by the authority estimated
that long-term exposure to
particulates, fine particles of dust and
fuel that get into the lungs is the cause
of 7% of deaths in Redbridge.
Exposure to this type of contamination
can also lead to heart and respiratory
conditions including heart attacks and
bronchitis.
High Road is London’s second most-
polluted place in London as Nearly
20,000 vehicles pass along the A118
through Ilford, Seven Kings,
Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath a
day, pumping out exhaust fumes,
according to a London Assembly
report which releases huge quantities
that allows them to access
digital content such as these

that has been touched in a

specific target audience
whereas we will also be
targeting teenagers which
compone a big part of our
society and local community
and are the ones (alongside
with people between 20-30)
who get affected the most by
pollution (air pollution
especially) and/or are the
main cause of it. So focusing
this specific target audience in
such a project can be really
convincing and advantageous
for both us and the local
community as awareness will
topic that has been tackled
many times by different group
of people or even by the
government and it may be the
case that people in the local
area are already aware of the
problems that pollution is
causing as well as facts and
datas meaning that the
product might not be as
successful as expected.
Also seen as this project is
aimed at people at a younger
age, we need to be careful
whether they have permission
from their parents/guardians
to be shown in the public or
not as this can cause legal
problems.
Another disadvantage may
include the fact that some
people may be aware of those
problems and therefore feel
“attacked” as this
documentary is being issued
to solve the problems they are
making, this means that there
has to be consistent

of nitrogen dioxide, which can be
toxic, alongside with carcinogenic
benzene and particulates, which can
cause asthma and other respiratory
diseases after being inhaled by
people. Other than them places, also
Chapel Road, in Ilford, the A12 Eastern
Avenue, Cambridge Park Road, in
Wanstead, and Cranbrook Road also
had high levels of pollutants.
Other than pollution impacting the
population, it also can have some
consequences on the environment and
climate as we all know, due to the use
gases that pollute the air the Ozone
layer for example has had a steady
decline of about 4% in the total
amount of the ozone which let
ultraviolet rays and other unsafe
radiations which have increased the
overall temperature of the Earth as
well as bringing more problems and
health issues to those who stayed
under these radiations without
knowing. The main cause of ozone
depletion and the ozone hole is due to
manmade chemicals, especially man-
made halocarbon refrigerants,
be raised towards those who
get involved most in the
problems listed.
Another advantage is that as
people get interviewed we
can get real life experiences of
what has actually happened to
those people affected by
these problems which will
strengthen our documentary
as the audience will feel more
involved and dedicated and
motivated to improve the
community as an overall as
the real life experiences will
affect them emotionally.
Furthermore, as we are going
to research and give
information to the audience
about Redbridge we will also
learn more about it and about
the local areas as well as the
audience who by being young
will also spread out the word
to other people as they often
times use technology to send
professional use of language
and interaction to not to
offend the audience who is
going to get interviewed and
having a professional
approach also involves being
in care of the equipment as
they can be easily damaged
when being outside in the
public either by people or us.
Going back to the budget, the
pre-production process needs
to be crucial as to interview
people in certain private or
public places a certificate or
permission from the “owner”
of the place needs to be in our
hands and sometimes they
may ask us to pay in order to
record in specific places which
may add up to the budget
required.

solvents, propellants, and foam-
blowing agents (chlorofluorocarbon
(CFCs), HCFCs, freons, halons) which
have anti Ozone reactions. The ozone
layer is crucial for us as it prevents
most harmful UVB wavelengths of
ultraviolet light (UV light) from passing
through the Earth's atmosphere, these
wavelengths cause skin cancer,
sunburn, and cataracts.
As mentioned before, other crucial
effects of contamination and pollution
in general include the well known
global warming and the largest human
influence has been the emission of
greenhouse gases such as carbon
dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide
and public reactions to global
warming and concern about its effects
are also increasing but not as much as
it should which is another reason why
this social project aims at raising
awareness on these things. Since 1906,
the global average surface
temperature has increased between 1.1
and 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (0.6 to 0.9
degrees Celsius)–even more in
information around on social
medias especially.

Underage Smoking -
Ben Karrass
Smoking is the primary cause of
deaths, disabilities and diseases in the
UK. Nowadays many young people
start smoking or have tried smoking at
the age of 16. 3% of people aged 16
and under are regular smokers in the
UK, 18% have tried smoking before
and 40% of young people start
smoking under the age of 16.
Nowadays cigarettes and Tobacco is
very easy for people to get their hand
on as the legal age to buy tobacco is
18. Young people who smoke have
high risks of getting lifelong health
problems such as cancer and heart
disease. Children often want to try
tobacco as it may make them feel
older and more mature, not only does
An advantage of creating a
social action project on
underage smokers is that it
can raise awareness to those
why dont understand or
realise how bad and
dangerous it is to smoke at a
young age. Smoking is a big
issue and if we raise
awareness of it it can get
more people aware of the
issue and stop them from
smoking.
Raising this awareness to
underage smokers can
prevent them from developing
health issues before it starts.
A disadvantage of making a
social action project on
underage smokers is that we
would need to get parent
permission from people under
16 who smoke as it's the law
film people without
permission under 16. Another
disadvantage towards this is
that the underage smokers
may have parents who don't
know they smoke so they
wouldn't be able to get
permission to be filmed from
their parents.
People may feel humiliated to
be filmed on underage
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3
Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed
this persuade people to smoke but
also being peer pressured by other
smokers can lead young people to
start smoking. One other cause of
young people to start smoking is for
people to watch advertisements on
smoking as this could be eye catching,
this is bad as they don’t include the
health risks when smoking.
Tobacco is known to be harmful to
mostly every organ system in the
body, smoking is responsible for
nearly a third of all cancer deaths in
the United States. Smoking has been
linked to other big health causes such
as pneumonia, leukemia, heart disease
and reproductive problems. The most
serious health problem is lung cancer
and lounger people who are smoking
have more of a chance of catching
these health problems and not being
able to live their lives to the fullest.
Smoking can very very addicting from
the substances it contains such as
nicotine. Nicotine has more of a threat
on younger people as it can get them
Creating the video allows
parents to become more
aware of their children and
what they may be doing if it
includes smoking as it is very
dangerous. Parents will be
able to learn new ways of
preventing their children to
not smoke at a young age as
they know the risks smoking
can cause.
Another advantage of creating
a project on young smokers is
that at this day and age a lot
of people smoke so it won't
be hard to film young people
smoking for our video if
necessary. As a lot of people
smoke nowadays there are a
lot of fake cigarettes in the
market so for us to get one for
the project won't be hard or
expensive.
As we will be filming with
professional equipment we
want to make the video as
smoking as they don't want
other people to know about it,
its private information so they
don't have to be filmed if they
don't choose to. Another
disadvantage is that if people
don't want to be filmed
smoking underage it will be
hard to make a video about it
without anyone smoking. I
disadvantage in this is that it
can become very time
consuming to find underage
smokers as not a lot of young
smokers are comfortable with
being filmed for a
documentary about the effects
of smoking.
People may take the message
the wrong way of smoking
and find it good and desirable
for people who smoke as it's
hard to stop and easy to
become addicted.
Furthermore a disadvantage
of creating the video can
make parents, friends and
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3
Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed
more addicted at a young age. people
who start smoking before age 21 have
more difficulty quitting than those who
first try cigarettes later in life.
Creating a project on young smokers
can spread information around the
community on the problems and
health issues it can have on their
children. Sending a message can get
parents more aware of the problem
and allow them to try and prevent. The
purpose of the video is to get
underage smokers to become more
aware of the health risks smoking has
and what effect it can create on their
lives. The young smokers the watch
our video may realize the dangers of
smoking and their actions making
them want to quit and stop smoking.
During the video we will interview
people on their views on young
smokers so the audience who watch
the video can see other people's
opinions on their actions. As there are
a lot of health issues with smoking it
will be good to include them into our
video because it can take effect on our
realistic and eye catching as
possible so we can create
more higher quality footage to
appear to the audience better,
this will also allow they to
take the video more seriously.
The video will help people
learnt the health risks and
dangers associated with
smoking. Showing this in our
videos can decrease the
chances of underage people
start smoking or if they
already smoke it can make
they stop. The video can teach
underage smokers and adults
different alternatives to
smoking, these things may
help them quit smoking. The
alternatives may include E-
cigarettes and a nicotine
patch.
Friends and family members
can help smokers find ways to
quit and stop smoking by
watching our video. The video
family member very nervous
and worried about their young
ones as they may think they
smoke. As they see the
negative of the video they can
become very nervous for the
people around them.
Underage smokers may see
the video but not want to
watch it as they don't want to
know what it's about as they
choose to smoke. This is a
disadvantage as the main
target audience are underage
smokers and they wouldn't
watch the video as they may
not care about the
consequences and the health
issues smoking holds.
Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3

audience that smoke or even people
who don't smoke so they don't start in
the future.
An example of an article talking about
the issues and effects with underage
smoking in the world is ‘Live Strong’
the article talks about the facts and
effects on underage smokers and how
people can prevent these things from
happening:
https://www.livestrong.com/article/21
0918-facts-about-underage-smoking/
An example of another article is ‘DO
Something’ in this article they mention
11 facts about teen smokers and the
problems it can cause, its a simple
article that include important
information regarding young smokers:
https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11
-facts-about-teen-smoking
will overall warm and help
people the risks there are
when smoking and it will
make underage smokers
aware of what they are doing
to their body, our video will
help people who may smoke
to stop and not get addicted
before it's too late. There is a
wide audience of smokers in
the world who will probably
want their children or friends
to watch the video if they
smoke to help them stop.

Task 3

  • 1. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed Task 3 Idea Explanation and Examples Advantages Disadvantages Rising Crime Rates - Lauren Rosenfeld In the year 2017, the crime rate in Redbridge has far exceeded the UK average crime rate across similar areas. The main sources of crime were from anti social behaviour, burglary, robbery, vehicle crime and violence. 683 more crimes were reported in the last year, which is 242% more crime than national average. There were also 352% more burglary/theft offences than average, 250 anti-social behaviour crimes reported and 177 violent and drug offences reported. The number of homicides, weapons offences, criminal damage charges, incidences of shoplifting and acid attacks have all seen an increase. Due to these increases in crime rates within the Borough of Redbridge, it is important that the local residents are made aware of them in order for them to feel safe in their community. By creating a social action project on the rising crime rates, we will not only One advantage of creating this social action project is that we have the technical, equipment to create a professional production. This means that there is the possibility of a lot of people watching it and spreading the word on the rising crime rates. More people will also want to watch it if it runs well, due to our experience in creating short films. Another advantage is that we and the audience will learn more about our local area, due to the research we will have to undertake. This coincides with Blumer and Katz's uses and gratifications theory, in which people actively seek out specific media to satisfy their specific needs. The audience However, there are also some disadvantages that may prevent us from creating the video. One of these is time constraints, as we only have a certain amount of time to film the video. Especially as we have to film interviews, reconstructions etc. Therefore we will need to make sure we stick to deadlines in order to have the most amount of time to film the video. If we run out of time this would result in a low quality production that would deter people from watching it. Another disadvantage are our finances. We will need to make sure that the budget is well done in order for us to create a professional production. If we spend our
  • 2. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed inform the public, we will also have informed potential criminals of the implications of committing crimes in order to deter them from doing so. East London is also the epicentre of acid attacks, and Redbridge has the fourth highest recorded rate in the capital. This means people may feel unsafe, especially as acid attacks can have both emotional and physical effects on a person's health. Therefore, i have chosen rising crime rates as a potential social action project, as if nothing is done, it will keep on rising, and become out of control. This project will also raise awareness of the rising crime rates and what the locals can do about it in order to lower it, and stop them from rising further. For the social action project, i will interview several different people who have experienced different types of crime within the area, ranging from theft and anti social behaviour to acid attacks, to hear how the crime has affected their lives. We may also be able to contact the local police are responsible for choosing media that meets their needs, especially if they are interesting in local issues that may affect them. Another advantage of creating a social action project based on the rising crime rates is that it is a niche in the market. Meaning that it has not been done before and no one has looked into creating a video on it, which would benefit the community. By having an idea which is niche, this means that there is the possibility of several people watching it as it is brand new information that they have not seen before. Another advantage is that by interviewing people who have experienced crime we can help them and they can discuss their emotions with us. This may also help anyone money wisely this will contribute to us creating a video that looks good so that others are encouraged to watch it. We also need to stick to legal constraints. For example, we cannot breach the defamation act, which states that we cannot damage another person's reputation as they will have the right to sue. Therefore, we need to take the time to make sure all pre production documents are in order especially the release forms and that they are signed by the right authoritative figure. For example, if we are to film on a location that requires permission, we must make sure to get the permission forms, so that we are able to film and finish the project on time. There are also ethical
  • 3. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed department to hear what they are doing to stop the rising crime rates, so that locals feel safer. Another thing we will be able to show in the video are reenactments of crimes that have happened, which adds realism, and may shock the audience into taking action. We will also interview local people on the high street, asking if they feel safe and what should be done about it if they don't, which means we will get a range of opinions. In the past two years 528 of the 800- odd acid attacks took place in east London, with the victims usually male and in their 20s. Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) is a not-for-profit charity whose sole purpose is to end acid violence at a global level. Executive director Jaf Shah stated “It does seem like within the criminal community acid is becoming the weapon of choice,” he said. “It’s very cheap and accessible.” Therefore, something needs to be done to stop the easily accessible sale of acid. http://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news else who has been a victim of crime and has not had the chance to talk about it with anyone. By adding in real life experiences and having others view it it may encourage them to be safe in their neighbourhood. For example, if people say their experience on being burgled this may motivate others to install security system stems and cameras within their houses which will in turn help police if a criminal has been successful. Another advantage of us creating this video is that we will raise awareness of the types of crimes that are on the rise, such as acid attacks and how to remain aware at all times. We will also highlight common crimes that are still prevalent such as theft, and show reenactments to enforce the idea to be aware, particularly on the high street. constraints, especially if we were to interview victims of crimes we would need to remain professional and consider others feelings. Victims may feel uncomfortable as this is a sensitive topic and therefore, we may need to build a rapport to get them to open up which would take time to do. Another disadvantage is that the reconstructions may not be realistic, and therefore, we will need to select appropriate actors to portray people. We will also need to spend the budget appropriately on props that will add to the realism. Another disadvantage is that we will have to spend a lot of time researching people within the area who have been victims of crime. Once we

Redbridge Council leader Jas Athwal stated that burglary remains a top priority for the Redbridge Safety Community Partnership. He added “As part of this work, we urge Londoners to take action to safeguard their homes by following our simple crime prevention advice.” http://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news /crime-court/redbridge-postcodes- top-the-list-for-burglary-claims-across- the-uk-1-4860998 have found people, they may not want to feature in the video, which means we have wasted time and could cause a disruption to the production. Another disadvantage is that when interviewing people on the high street, we must remain professional in order to keep those we are interviewing calm. The interviewees may become confrontational/aggressive if they do not perceive the question properly and therefore we must be clear when asking questions. We may also have property stolen by people passing by, thus we must keep the equipment close to us at all times and be ready to report this to the police. Domestic Violence and Women's Aid - Millie West The UK government defines domestic violence “Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or One advantage of creating a documentary on domestic violence and Women’s Aid, is that it can make the public One disadvantage of creating a production on the topic of domestic violence, is that it may be too much of a
  • 5. Controlling behaviour includes a range of acts that are designed to make a person subordinate and/or dependent by isolating them from sources of support, exploiting their resources and capacities for personal gain, depriving them of the means needed for independence, resistance and escape and regulating their everyday behaviour. Coercive behaviour defines as an act or a pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish, or frighten their victim. Domestic violence also includes so aware of such issues. As mentioned, domestic violence is almost seen as a hidden crime, due to the fact that most cases of it, occurs behind closed doors. By publicising the truth about what does happen for some women when partners get home from work or when the door shuts and there are no longer out in the public eye, videos and documentaries such as ones like this can help to make people more aware of the issue, what domestic violence actually is, and what is considered to be domestic violence. It can also help to inform the public that crimes such as this can occur to anyone, and what signs to possibly look out for - if there are any. A second advantage of creating this production, is that we have the necessary sensitive topic. As a crime that does not always prevail itself, and can be all three of physically, emotionally and mentally damaging, to ask people or possible victims to speak about the topic on camera, may be a large ethical issue. Moreover, if people would like to feature in our project and speak about such an issue, they may not want their faces shown on screen, or they may wish to remain anonymous. This means that the actor or interviewee would need to be filmed without their own face, or real voice and so all interviews with victims of domestic violence or other talent, would need to be shown as a silhouette. One huge ethical concern presents itself, in terms of a production on such a sensitive topic. If people can relate, to the subject that we are
  • 6. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed called ‘honour’ based violence, including female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage - which are both also illegal acts. It is clear to see that victims are not confined to one gender or ethnic group. From the work and research that Women's Aid carries out, they concluded that domestic abuse is very common. However this specific crime is often very difficult to accurately quantify. Considering domestic abuse is a largely hidden crime that occurs primarily at home, victims of the crime and the crime itself may not be easily identified. Victimised women often don’t report or disclose domestic abuse to the police, and they may also under report domestic abuse in surveys - particularly during face-to- face interviews. In addition, statistics do not always take into account important context and impact information. Such as what form of abuse a victim may have been subject to, or how many times the incident/ incidents occurred. When these factors equipment to do so. Some of the basic equipment that we are eligible to use includes, cameras, boom microphones and tripods to name a few. Not only do we have high standard and quality equipment, we also have the relevant experience and ability to use such pieces of technology, due to using them in our previous productions. This in turn gives us the power to create a realistic and powerful project. This style and theme of production is one that is Interesting and is only rarely covered, which will hopefully give us a chance to make our production the most successful that it can be. Another advantage of creating this project is that considering we are trying to inform anyone who is part of the planning on informing and educating viewers about, then it may be hard for some people to watch. It can be both a sensitive topic for possible victims of domestic violence and younger viewers. In addition it could-be a distressing subject for both of the above mentioned audiences as well as others as a consequence of the possible inclusion of distressing scenes. Similarly, it will be extremely hard to find talent and people who will be willing to take part in our project, as it is a sensitive and personal subject. A practical disadvantage that as a group creating a production on domestic violence that we may come across, is that it may not be new information for our intended audiences to find
  • 7. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed are taken into account the gendered nature of domestic abuse becomes clearer. This topic is one that is very important, and it is crucial that people know about it. This is because it is seens as almost a ‘taboo’ subject in Redbridge. One that is seen as too sensitive to be spoken about, and therefore is almost a secret crime, which should not be the case. It is an immensely important subject, because of the harmful effects that it can have on a victim physically, emotionally and mentally. In turn, people must know about it to be able to help possibly deal with a person who is a victim of such abuse, as well as be able to spot out what the signs of such a crime are. In Redbridge, as mentioned it is not a subject that is commonly spoken about and therefore by creating this video, not only could it be a conversation starter on the topic, but it could also could lead men and women to come forward about their experience of being possible victims. public and anyone could be a victim, if the production becomes popular and gets publicity, then there is a chance that it can be shown all over the world. When there is not such a specific focus on domestic violence crimes in England and Wales, the worldwide statistics of such a crime dramatically increase. Moreover, this production can make people aware of what they can do to help someone that they may know to be a victim of such abuse, on a personal level . For example be a friendly face to them, report it to an agency such as Women’s Aid or an institution with higher authority, such as the police, as well as support those who may have experienced or be subject to such a type of crime. out. If our target market and primary audience are already aware about the rising issue of domestic violence - proven by the statistics shown, then there is a possibility that the production could become disinteresting for viewers to watch. As a result, creating a production based around both domestic violence and Women’s Aid, may be pointless, and the hard work, time and effort used to create a project which can inform people of the issue (which would turn out that they already know about) and publicise it would have gone to waste. Programmes such as Panorama and Dispatches have created media productions based on this topic before and so to make our successful, we must ensure that it is audience
  • 8. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed Some victims may be so used to this abuse that they may see nothing wrong with it, and may believe that it is normal, and therefore this video with educate and enforce that such behaviour is a crime and needs to be reported to the appropriate agencies. In Redbridge, domestic violence has not got as much exposure at it should do, and by creating this video, it may help to reveal the issue in greater depth. Key statistics provided by Crime Survey of England and Wales (CSEW) show that it is estimated that 1.3 million women experienced domestic abuse in the last year and 4.3 million women have experienced domestic abuse at some point since the age of 16. In addition, on average two women are killed by their partner or ex- partner every week in England and Wales alone. Domestic abuse related crime is 10% of total crime, an increase of 2% since the previous year. Moreover it has In addition, this type of project can educate the public on what people can do for charities such as women’s aid. For example volunteer to work on the help line, or educate people about the work they do, at events. As well as benefit themselves by learning more about the charity, what it does and what it aims to do. A huge advantage of creating this project is that we have many contacts who would be able to help and inform us on the issue of domestic violence. They may be able to give us facts and statistics regarding the crime. These contacts include Women’s Aid, as well as other charities. Finally, another advantage of this production is that it can let women or men who are possible victims of or subject captivating and different from all of those that have been done before. If the production were to focus on both the issue of domestic violence, as well as Women’s Aid, then ideally it would be useful and informative for our production company to film some of the charity workers, doing what they do on a daily basis as well as interview them and ask them what it is that they do as a charity, what their goal or goals are and question how we - as the public can help to achieve this. One issue with this is that it may be hard to film workers as what they do is crucial, and so we would have to film in the workers free time - that is is they have some. Moreover to be able to film on the charity's premises as well as their workers, we would need completed and accepted

Last but not least, the volume of domestic abuse prosecutions completed rose in the year 2015/2016 to 100,930 from 92,779 in 2014/2015 – this is the highest level ever recorded. Where gender was recorded, 92.1% (92,851) of defendants were male and 7.9% (7,992) were female (in 87 cases gender was not recorded). In addition, 83.3% (71,706) of victims were female and 16.7% (14,406) were male, (in 18,081 cases the gender was not recorded). A massive disadvantage of creating this project is a legal consideration regarding the talent that we may use or need who are under the age of 16. If any talent of this age range were to feature, they would need parental consent. Parents may not want to give consent as the subject of the project is one that may be both distressing and upsetting to some. Not only will we need to find talent who are over the age of 16 for parental consent reasons, but also, we can't have a programme full of under 16 year olds because it may seem too unrealistic, and we want our production to be a realistic as possible. Instead, we would like and need an
  • 10. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed actor who can portray and reflect the situation of a domestic violence case or interview study as closely as possible, to enhance the projects realism. In addition, talent must remain anonymous to ensure that any victim's reputation (who is used in our production) is not damaged and they do not become a target or get targeted by abusers or audiences. Swiftly linking on, finally the last disadvantage of this project is that we would have to follow the Defamation Act of 2013 to make sure that we are not at risk of being libellous towards ‘Women’s Aid’ and ensure that we do not damage the charity’s reputation. Recycling - Benjamin Goldstone Recycling helps to reduce energy usage, which means it reduces the consumption of fresh raw material, air pollution and water pollution. recycling minimizes global warming and its devastating impacts. During waste disposal, huge amounts of Recycling is not always cost- effective. Building up a new waste recycling unit takes up a lot of capital. The
  • 11. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed There are four main recycling bins Plastic which include water bottles, plastic bags, plastic wrappers and rubber bag another one is glass products that can be recycled wine, beer bottles and broken glass. The third bin is Paper which takes magazine, newspaper, books and cardboard books. The last one is metal which takes drinking cans. Waste materials are collected through drop-off centers, curbside collection, deposit or refund programs. The waste materials are then transported to a materials recovery facility or recycling centers where they are sorted out, cleaned and processed into ideal materials for manufacturing. Manufacturing is when materials have been recycled are converted to useful products. Every year Redbridge waste are combusted that lead to emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur, and nitrogen, which contribute to climate change and global warming. The great benefit of recycling waste material is that it plays a big part in protecting Mother Nature in the most balanced way. While many trees are felled every day, recycled paper manufactured from specific trees is continually utilized to reduce deforestation. Recycling old and used materials into reusable products enormously reduces the possibility of choking of landfill sites. This is very helpful because it helps minimize land and water pollution. A major source of pollution today is industrial waste that comes from factories producing plastics and cans. If accompanying costs include buying different kinds of utility vehicles, upgrading the recycling unit, waste, and chemical disposal and schooling the locals by initiating useful programs. recycling waste may not be less costly as most people think. This will only drive up the costs related setting up the new unit or upgrading the processing facility, collection of waste materials, acquiring different utility vehicles and other programes. recycling plays a bigger role in reducing the rate of pollution, the process has not been widely embraced and developed. Unfortunately recycling still is just a small part of long-term success. Recycling is mostly common in schools and homes. recycling results in more pollution, higher energy consumption, and cost-
  • 12. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed residents produce around 100, 000 tonnes of waste. That’s almost 1 tonne per household. By taking simple steps to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste you can help save money and make a difference to your environment. recycling must be in the blue and black recycling boxes that we provide. Boxes should be left just within the boundary of your property by 7am on the day of collection. both products are re-used, instead of manufactured from scratch repeatedly, pollution can be reduced significantly. Recycling also promotes responsible and proper management and disposal of plastics and cans. Another good advantage is Electronics, old water bottles, and other trash can be sold for cash. So if you sell them, you not only save the environment, but make money as well. If you buy recycled materials, which costs less than the new ones, you will also save money. The more money you will make and save if you re-use some of the trash that your home produces. Recycling can help minimize the cutting of trees, which are used to make paper. So, by cutting less trees and producing more recycled paper, we preserve the environment for future generations. Besides that, inefficiency, making it less effective than what everyone wants to believe. Moreover, recycling still failed to dent demands. The demands for aluminum, for example, increase about 10% every year, but the amount of recycled aluminum falls short. Another disadvantage is The need for extra bins for different kinds of trash will also be needed. This can equate to more trucks to pick them up which then means it would increase air pollution. Collecting garbage on a daily basis may leave debris on the streets and recovery sites, rendering these places unhygienic. Aside from that, recycling companies might abandon dump sites and leave harmful chemicals to contaminate the land and the environment. If chemicals are left on land which are harmful either the company can get
  • 13. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed conserving forests will help the environment. This is because trees are known to improve air, prevent floods and provide raw materials sued or worse he land can get destroyed with something contagious. Recycling is only the first step of many towards preserving the environment. This is because they believe that the only real benefit of recycling is slowing the damage of humans. They also believe that unless humans really know the extent of the damage of waste, recycling will remain of little value to a lot of people. Pollution - Nikon Ahamed Pollution is the introduction of substances that can affect the natural environment and can cause various problems. Pollution can also be in the form of energy, such as noise, heat or light. Pollutants, the components of pollution, can be either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants. There are mainly three types of pollution that can affect a local community and these are: air pollution, water pollution and land contamination. Specifically talking about air pollution One advantage of creating a project dedicated to pollution includes the fact that this will address a problem that is affecting not only the local borough, but also the entire world as it is being urbanised as days pass. Also due to the equipment we dispone information will be spread out digitally which may be visible by the vast majority of the people as nearly everyone dispones of a digital device A clear disadvantage of this social project is that it requires a certain budget which we don’ t dispone as much and this is due to the fact that we have to compete against other students who are going to produce high quality products which means that we will have to invest more in order to create a good final product. Alongside the problem of competitiveness, there is also the fact that pollution is a
  • 14. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed which is the most impactful in such an urbanised city, it has been calculated that it causes a staggering one in 14 deaths in Redbridge and is knocking years off residents’ life expectancy. Also, recent findings have exposed dangerously high levels of toxic pollutants in the borough, especially around the A406 for example, in South Woodford, which is one of the worst roads in the entire country. A report by the authority estimated that long-term exposure to particulates, fine particles of dust and fuel that get into the lungs is the cause of 7% of deaths in Redbridge. Exposure to this type of contamination can also lead to heart and respiratory conditions including heart attacks and bronchitis. High Road is London’s second most- polluted place in London as Nearly 20,000 vehicles pass along the A118 through Ilford, Seven Kings, Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath a day, pumping out exhaust fumes, according to a London Assembly report which releases huge quantities that allows them to access digital content such as these type of documentaries. Although pollution is a topic that has been touched in a numerous amount of times, we know that there are many people who ignore information given by other groups/companies/governme nt as they tend to be professionally dedicated for a specific target audience whereas we will also be targeting teenagers which compone a big part of our society and local community and are the ones (alongside with people between 20-30) who get affected the most by pollution (air pollution especially) and/or are the main cause of it. So focusing this specific target audience in such a project can be really convincing and advantageous for both us and the local community as awareness will topic that has been tackled many times by different group of people or even by the government and it may be the case that people in the local area are already aware of the problems that pollution is causing as well as facts and datas meaning that the product might not be as successful as expected. Also seen as this project is aimed at people at a younger age, we need to be careful whether they have permission from their parents/guardians to be shown in the public or not as this can cause legal problems. Another disadvantage may include the fact that some people may be aware of those problems and therefore feel “attacked” as this documentary is being issued to solve the problems they are making, this means that there has to be consistent
  • 15. Units 4, 5, 24, 31 - Task 3 Lauren Rosenfeld, Ben Karrass, Millie West, Ben Goldstone & Nikon Ahamed of nitrogen dioxide, which can be toxic, alongside with carcinogenic benzene and particulates, which can cause asthma and other respiratory diseases after being inhaled by people. Other than them places, also Chapel Road, in Ilford, the A12 Eastern Avenue, Cambridge Park Road, in Wanstead, and Cranbrook Road also had high levels of pollutants. Other than pollution impacting the population, it also can have some consequences on the environment and climate as we all know, due to the use gases that pollute the air the Ozone layer for example has had a steady decline of about 4% in the total amount of the ozone which let ultraviolet rays and other unsafe radiations which have increased the overall temperature of the Earth as well as bringing more problems and health issues to those who stayed under these radiations without knowing. The main cause of ozone depletion and the ozone hole is due to manmade chemicals, especially man- made halocarbon refrigerants, be raised towards those who get involved most in the problems listed. Another advantage is that as people get interviewed we can get real life experiences of what has actually happened to those people affected by these problems which will strengthen our documentary as the audience will feel more involved and dedicated and motivated to improve the community as an overall as the real life experiences will affect them emotionally. Furthermore, as we are going to research and give information to the audience about Redbridge we will also learn more about it and about the local areas as well as the audience who by being young will also spread out the word to other people as they often times use technology to send professional use of language and interaction to not to offend the audience who is going to get interviewed and having a professional approach also involves being in care of the equipment as they can be easily damaged when being outside in the public either by people or us. Going back to the budget, the pre-production process needs to be crucial as to interview people in certain private or public places a certificate or permission from the “owner” of the place needs to be in our hands and sometimes they may ask us to pay in order to record in specific places which may add up to the budget required.
  • 16. The ozone layer is crucial for us as it prevents most harmful UVB wavelengths of ultraviolet light (UV light) from passing through the Earth's atmosphere, these wavelengths cause skin cancer, sunburn, and cataracts. As mentioned before, other crucial effects of contamination and pollution in general include the well known global warming and the largest human influence has been the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide and public reactions to global warming and concern about its effects are also increasing but not as much as it should which is another reason why this social project aims at raising awareness on these things. Since 1906, the global average surface temperature has increased between 1.1 and 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit (0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius)–even more in information around on social medias especially.

Nowadays many young people start smoking or have tried smoking at the age of 16. 3% of people aged 16 and under are regular smokers in the UK, 18% have tried smoking before and 40% of young people start smoking under the age of 16. Nowadays cigarettes and Tobacco is very easy for people to get their hand on as the legal age to buy tobacco is 18. Young people who smoke have high risks of getting lifelong health problems such as cancer and heart disease. Children often want to try tobacco as it may make them feel older and more mature, not only does An advantage of creating a social action project on underage smokers is that it can raise awareness to those why dont understand or realise how bad and dangerous it is to smoke at a young age. Smoking is a big issue and if we raise awareness of it it can get more people aware of the issue and stop them from smoking. Raising this awareness to underage smokers can prevent them from developing health issues before it starts. A disadvantage of making a social action project on underage smokers is that we would need to get parent permission from people under 16 who smoke as it's the law film people without permission under 16. Another disadvantage towards this is that the underage smokers may have parents who don't know they smoke so they wouldn't be able to get permission to be filmed from their parents. People may feel humiliated to be filmed on underage

One other cause of young people to start smoking is for people to watch advertisements on smoking as this could be eye catching, this is bad as they don’t include the health risks when smoking. Tobacco is known to be harmful to mostly every organ system in the body, smoking is responsible for nearly a third of all cancer deaths in the United States. Smoking has been linked to other big health causes such as pneumonia, leukemia, heart disease and reproductive problems. The most serious health problem is lung cancer and lounger people who are smoking have more of a chance of catching these health problems and not being able to live their lives to the fullest. Smoking can very very addicting from the substances it contains such as nicotine. Nicotine has more of a threat on younger people as it can get them Creating the video allows parents to become more aware of their children and what they may be doing if it includes smoking as it is very dangerous. Parents will be able to learn new ways of preventing their children to not smoke at a young age as they know the risks smoking can cause. Another advantage of creating a project on young smokers is that at this day and age a lot of people smoke so it won't be hard to film young people smoking for our video if necessary. As a lot of people smoke nowadays there are a lot of fake cigarettes in the market so for us to get one for the project won't be hard or expensive. As we will be filming with professional equipment we want to make the video as smoking as they don't want other people to know about it, its private information so they don't have to be filmed if they don't choose to. Another disadvantage is that if people don't want to be filmed smoking underage it will be hard to make a video about it without anyone smoking. I disadvantage in this is that it can become very time consuming to find underage smokers as not a lot of young smokers are comfortable with being filmed for a documentary about the effects of smoking. People may take the message the wrong way of smoking and find it good and desirable for people who smoke as it's hard to stop and easy to become addicted. Furthermore a disadvantage of creating the video can make parents, friends and

Creating a project on young smokers can spread information around the community on the problems and health issues it can have on their children. Sending a message can get parents more aware of the problem and allow them to try and prevent. The purpose of the video is to get underage smokers to become more aware of the health risks smoking has and what effect it can create on their lives. The young smokers the watch our video may realize the dangers of smoking and their actions making them want to quit and stop smoking. During the video we will interview people on their views on young smokers so the audience who watch the video can see other people's opinions on their actions. As there are a lot of health issues with smoking it will be good to include them into our video because it can take effect on our realistic and eye catching as possible so we can create more higher quality footage to appear to the audience better, this will also allow they to take the video more seriously. The video will help people learnt the health risks and dangers associated with smoking. Showing this in our videos can decrease the chances of underage people start smoking or if they already smoke it can make they stop. The video can teach underage smokers and adults different alternatives to smoking, these things may help them quit smoking. The alternatives may include E- cigarettes and a nicotine patch. Friends and family members can help smokers find ways to quit and stop smoking by watching our video. The video family member very nervous and worried about their young ones as they may think they smoke. As they see the negative of the video they can become very nervous for the people around them. Underage smokers may see the video but not want to watch it as they don't want to know what it's about as they choose to smoke. This is a disadvantage as the main target audience are underage smokers and they wouldn't watch the video as they may not care about the consequences and the health issues smoking holds.
