POINT OF ORDER - RADIO
PROGRAMME IDEA
Kashmire Hawker
Show Name
Point of Order…
Show Summary
It will be a show which relives some famous political moments; whether that’s from elections, a bill failing in Parliament and MPs having humiliating
moments.
The genre for the show is a comedic documentary as there will be a lighter side to the show along with the information, which will tell the story of those major
political moments/events in each episode.
Narrative
The narrative of each episode will be split into sections, which may be different each episode.
Introductions will be brief so the story of the event can be told in as much detail as possible with the following groups having their say, as the detail and time of
the story progresses:
• Politicians: they are the most key within the programmes as they have a prominent part of the stories which are being shown to viewers
• Families: the families of these MP’s involved within the events are major within their everyday lives; their views on what panned out is important for
getting a wide range of views for the viewer to see
• Fellow Colleagues: getting the story of fellow colleagues about the important people involved is extremely vital in making the whole story great for
everybody
• The Press: views of the people within media play a part in how the story/event is covered and looked at in greater detail
• Public: and not forgetting the general public of course – those who voted them in should really be able to give views from everybody’s perspective
Each story shall progress with input from the groups above, with them all linking into each part. Things will start the big details about what actually went on
for 15 minutes with the input by the groups above dominating, how it happened for 10 minutes and the repercussions it had on people as a whole for the last 5
minutes of the programme.
Sound Design
The sound design for the programme will vary on each particular programme and the story-lines within. Some will be louder, whiles others won’t be as
dramatic and will all be created by experts so that the audio fits in nicely with the narration. Audio clips of the moment/event shall be used to heighten all
aspects of what’s eventually played.
Schedule Information
The show will be in a podcast style, over one hour every Friday afternoon. It will be released at 5pm
every Friday online via the website of BBC Parliament which during it’s proceeding’s of political
debate has small programmes about major elections, meaning of political jargon, etc…
Target Audience
The target audiences for the show are quite evident from the programme’s genre being very niche.
The audiences are in a sense generalised as the nature of political shows currently interests people
of all ages, backgrounds, wealth and so forth. In this instance though, the programme will be
targeted at young people (8-19 year olds) and all stories will be spoken in as easy as way as possible
so that they kept engaged.
Post-Broadcast Distribution
When a episode is broadcast, is will be straight away be placed on the BBC Radio iPlayer website
through BBC Radio 5Live, whom themselves will on every Sunday at 9pm broadcast that week’s
show.
It shall become a permanent fixture on BBC Parliament’s site, where all seven episodes will be
available for everyone’s convenience. A physical box-set will also be produced and sold via the high
street within 3 months of the series concluding.
See the Task 12 blog page for a link
to the required sample material
Character Profiles
The way the show being put together is rather different; instead
of recording people I am using actual audio taken from clips of
recorded footage, from election night. As a result of this, there are
only going to be a few main characters and the narrator within
the programme itself.
In terms of the longest amount of audio, broadcasting legend
David Dimbleby providing the official Exit Poll will the longest
amount of audio within, whiles two returning officers announce
sections of results, at their declarations; both being much shorter
clips.
David is a man with much integrity who’s style of presenting,
knowledge of what’s being talked about/announced and him
being one of the first presenters to be part of election nights,
makes him not only a national icon but makes it a tough task to
find someone like him to use, if I didn’t decide to use his audio
clip within the programme. He is an Englishman, whom has been
within the media industry for 30+ years on the trout and has
throughout the time been part of ten’s of programmes on the
BBC.
Someone who could fit the bill of playing Dimbleby could be
David’s younger brother-Jonathan, who has basically done the
same things as his elder. The experience and the seriousness he
would bring to the role would keep viewers engaged with what’s
being said.
