1. Target Flags LOGIC PUZZLE
http://www.sporcle.com/games/mrsmith/target-flags-logic-puzzle
Each row and column contains one 4-, one 5-, one 6-, one 7- & one
8-letter country.
The greater-than & less-than arrows relate to number of letters in
the country name.
Targets show the colours of each country's flag. (Colours do not
relate to the proportion of each colour in any given flag.)
Name each country.
2. Firstly, any
countries with
unique colour
combinations in
their flags can be
inserted. These
are: D (JAMAICA),
O (BHUTAN), P
(TANZANIA) & Z
(ALBANIA).
3. The chain formed by C, D, E F &
G must logically represent 8-,
7-, 6-, 5 & 4- letter countries
respectively. The only 8 letter
country with C’s colours is
SURINAME. The only 6 letter
country with E’s colours is
BRAZIL. The only 5 letter
country with K’s colours is ITALY
and the only 4 letter country
with J’s colours is PERU.
The only two countries with a
green & white flag and 4 to 8
letters are PAKISTAN &
NIGERIA. If D is JAMAICA, T
cannot have 7 letters,
therefore T must be PAKISTAN.
4. B has more letters than A and these
two countries must have 5 & 4
letters respectively (given than C, D
& E have 8, 7 & 6 letters
respectively). The only 5 letter
country with B’s colours is PALAU and
the only 4 letter country with A’s
colours is TOGO.
The only 2 countries with H’s colours
are ESTONIA & BOTSWANA. Given
than C is SURINAME, H cannot have
8 letters, so it must be ESTONIA.
U must have 4 letters, being the only
remaining country in the 5th column.
The only 4 letter country with U’s
colours is CHAD, so this must be U.
5. R has more letters than Q & S, so it must
have 7 letters (given that T and U have
already been filled). This means that it must
be VIETNAM. Q & S must have either 5 or 6
letters. This leaves only one possible option
for Q, given its colour combination, namely
ANGOLA. S must therefore have 5 letters, so
it must be GABON.
N has fewer letters than BHUTAN (O), so this
means it must have 4 letters. (if GABON is
S). The only 4 letter country with N’s
combination of colours is IRAQ, so this must
be N.
This leaves only X in the middle column,
which must have 6 letters. It can only be
KOSOVO, given the colour combination.
L must have 5 letters, as it has fewer letters
than M and cannot have 4, 6 or 7 letters. It
can therefore only be NIGER.
V has more letters than Q (ANGOLA). This
eliminates SWEDEN as a possibility and
KAZAKHSTAN has too many letters, so it can only
be UKRAINE.
This leaves F in column 1, which must logically
have 8 letters. The only 8 letter country with this
colour combination on its flag is BARBADOS.
6. G must have 6 letters. The
only 6 letter country with
G’s colour combination in
its flag is GUINEA.
M must have 8 letters.
The only 8 letter country
with M’s colour
combination in its flag is
DJIBOUTI.
W must have 4 letters.
The only 4 letter country
with W’s colour
combination in its flag is
MALI.
