With the proliferation of digital and mobile, we are leaving a trail of our personal movements and contributions across the digital ecosystem, constantly adding to a giant pile of information. This dynamic space brings us closer together – businesses and customers, users and brands, enterprises and staff, tearing down the remaining walls between us.
As information architects, we learned to understand these dynamics across channels and touchpoints, media and devices, supporting complex journeys with integrated systems. Often, our designs aim for at the meta level: in order to address the pervasive nature of information in complex ecosystems, we develop universal strategies designed to create links where and when they are needed.
This vast amount and unprecedented speed of information creation and exchange frames a key challenge for our businesses and clients: in order to design meaningful relationships and exchanges with their environment, they need to understand what to do with information that is either needed or available. While IT-centric approaches such as big data processing add useful capabilities, they fail to address core questions of use, meaning and value – questions that are at the heart of Information Architecture as a discipline.
We will present a design-led approach to “Big Information” modelling, leading to a connected and consistent view of knowledge and information needs from the ecosystem actors we address. Using semantic modelling techniques as applied in Business and Enterprise Architecture, we can develop views that trace through to the capabilities needed to act upon an information insight. Beyond the design of digital information spaces, such a model aligns the business around the experience.Tampere Service Jam Diary
On March 1st 2013, teams from around the globe met for 48 hours as part of a global Service Jam to develop new services inspired by the theme of "GROW^". Teams published their services on Sunday at 3pm and reported crazy collaboration, creative people, learning, and fun. Over 120 Jams were held with around 3000 participants developing over 520 finalized projects. The document discusses the Jam process and principles of having fun, prototyping ideas quickly, and getting feedback from users. It thanks the jammers and sponsors for making the event a success and notes another global GovJam event will be held in Tampere from June 4-6.

- 4. ABOUT THE TEAM For two months, the SmartyPants Team had the opportunity to research & envision creative solutions and approaches towards developing a Smarter Tampere. The project was sponsored by the City of Tampere as a part of the 2013 Demola Summer Program. Joe Pacal @PorcelainKid Czech Republic Trent Pancy @TrentPancy USA Mikko Väätäinen @MikkoVaatainen Savo Joe is a visual artist and a graphic designer specializing in brand development and digi- tal experience design. Along with professional production, he gets his hands dirty working on personal creative projects to extend his artistic capabilities. Trent is a consultant, comedian and producer based in Tampere. In addition to producing shows and events throughout Finland, he uses Applied Improvisation to facilitate alternative learning methods in businesses and organizations. Mikko is a multi-faceted designer, focusing on designing businesses, services and where insight and action are guaranteed.
