Digitalisation of university experience
Aly’s attitude to digital resources (eBooks) vs. Eva’s.
Students are most likely to buy books before coming to university upon receiving pre-arrival reading lists.
Aly’s pros and cons of pre-arrival reading lists
Quote from recent SAGE student survey on pre-arrival reading (Nov 2016)
Videos are the latest trend among young people
Although video educational resources are on the rise they only work if done in a particular way
I know you’re all thinking, how are cooking videos relevant? but what we should be asking is why has this video been watched 10s of millions of times, since when did courgettes become cool? And why on earth are 1 minute cooking videos the latest thing among young people?
The fact is, ‘Tasty’ have made the boring funky. They have caught onto our fast diminishing attention spans and harnessed our curiosity. Young people click because they know that it is only going to be 1 minute long. Our point is, if this is what boring-made-fun-through-videos means for young people then educational videos have a long way to go.
Quote taken from Eva’s recent blog post, where she reviewed an educational resource.
using videos that are long winded can be more frustrating - need to reflect attention spans
