case you witness a crime in progress or
an emergency situation?

3. • It is important that we are ready to be of
assistance to the people around us.
Sometimes, our individual efforts are not
enough; hence, we seek the help of
authorities.
• We inform them our needs.

4. • It is important that we get in touch with
authorities who are in a position to
immediately provide assistance to a
person or a community in need. Do not
assume that somebody else will do it.
Take the initiative.

5. • However, we can only take action if
we know the responsibilities and
jurisdictions of the various agencies
or situations in our community.

6. • It is important that we know how and
where to contact them. It is now easier to
get in touch with them because of the
available technology. We can also ask our
elders, like our parents and teachers, to
get in touch with the authorities.

7. It Is Always Best to Be Informed
Ryan’s mother works hard. She is
very busy businesswoman. She is often
under stress. She goes to her office
early in the morning and comes home
late in the evening.

8. One night, she experienced difficulty in
breathing. She called Ryan for help.
Fortunately, Ryan, who was only 10 years
old, already knew what to do. He asked their
househelp to assist him as he performed a
simple emergency procedure called CPR.

9. He also personally called the nearest
hospital for an ambulance. His mother was
saved because Ryan knew what to do.

• You may not be equipped or qualified to
respond to emergency but you can still do
something about them. You can notify the
people or agencies concerned. When we
notify them, we show concern for others. We
are able to help them this way.
