ITEC 299
Steven Bach
My motivation to take this class was to find out
new ways to help me learn. I was only expecting
it to be about using Apple products to help
increase one’s learning potential, but it was much
more than that.


Based off of the scores of the personal learning preference survey,
I have concluded that I am a hands-on, step by step learner. On
the survey, I scored a 3 on active. That shows that I am a person
that learns best by doing something active with it first. For sensing
and intuitive, I scored a 3 on sensing, which means I like to learn
through facts and is good with memorizing them through handson work. For the visual and verbal category, I scored a 5 on the
visual side. That shows that I’m more of a person who learns best
through an image or diagrams rather than written and spoken
explanations. Lastly, on the sequential and global category, I
scored a 5 on the sequential side. It means that I’m better off
learning step by step to reach the solution rather than knowing the
solution first and then trying to figure out how to solve it.


My thoughts on the general concept of learning
preferences is that it is a good way for someone
to figure out which ways help them learn best.
But on the other hand, it can also be wrong. It
may not be the best way to help someone learn.
It may make it a lot harder than what it already
is for that one person.


I chose the Learning Sage as my pathway in the
beginning of the semester because I wanted to
investigate in more newer technologies that can
help one learn efficiently. I feel that learning in
class only doesn’t help much as some students
are better learning a different way. Learning
about these technologies and how they can
help one learn gives me a better sense of what I
can do to help myself learn when I am not in
class.


The activities from this course did contribute to
how I ended up learning. It helped me make
better informed decisions on whether or not
information on the internet is true or false. It
also helped me understand that there are apps
for the mobile devices that can help teach a
subject that I may not fully understand from
class. Some of these activities are also help me
change my physiological factors as it has an
impact on the way I learn. In the end, these
activities didn’t only change the way I learn,
but it also help change me physically.






1) iPads & Tablets: This activity gave me insight on how there are
educational applications that can be downloaded on to the mobile device.
These educational applications can help me study or even teach me how
to solve problems in certain subjects. You can even send instant messages
to a friend, fellow classmate, or even professor to get help on some
subjects.
2) iPods & iPhones: I feel that this activity is the same as the iPads &
Tablets activity in a way. The only differences are the screen size and disk
space that are on these devices as well as the ability to surf the web
without having to connect to WiFi (smartphones).
3)Multimedia: For this activity, I feel like it best describe how people
learn in general. The different types of media that are presented in this
activity(text, video, audio, graphics, and animation) are the important
features when it comes to learning. In my opinion, it’s always better to
have different types of media when it comes to learning than just one
type of media.


I feel that the use of different technologies is a
great way to learn. This is something that should
be taught in high school as nearly every student
should have access to these technologies. These
technologies help students learn more successfully
and efficiently due to the fact that they have more
sources to rely on than just a professor/teacher.
After learning how to use these different
technologies, I am applying them to my future
studies. It is something that can be used daily that
isn’t out of my way and it’s simple to navigate as
well. The experience on these different
technologies has improved the way I learn over
this semester.


I have never thought that knowledge of physiological
factors plays a role into my personal learning practices.
After finding out how these factors affect my learning
process, I have changed up some of these factors. One
factor I have changed is my sleeping habit. Now I tend
to sleep as early as possible so when I wake up, I have
roughly around 8-9 hours of sleep. The amount of sleep
should help me with retain information I learned over
the day. Another factor that has been changed is my
eating factor. Now I tend to eat a little more healthier
as well as having snack in between big meals. That
should help improve my cognitive abilities to help me
focus better in my studies.


Everything that I have learned from this class
will not only be applied to my other classes,
but also to the rest of my life. Each of these
strategies can be applied to different types of
class subjects. It can also be applied to work.
Using the note-taking strategy, it will help me
navigate around a new job as well as helping
me familiarize myself with the new
surroundings. Using the technologies as a new
learning tool for school will help me
understand new topics a lot easier without
having to constantly rely on one single source.


My experience as a learning sage have been
overwhelming. I had no idea how much
technologies can help with learning until after
this class. Technology can be a powerful tool
when used properly as it can contain vital
information about subjects we don’t have a full
grasp on. Every technology out there is
different so you will always have a different
type of answer. There is still a lot to learn about
how these technologies can help us in our
studies but for now, my experience as a
learning sage have been nothing but fun.

Synthesis presentation

  • 2. My motivation to take this class was to find out new ways to help me learn. I was only expecting it to be about using Apple products to help increase one’s learning potential, but it was much more than that.
  • 3.  Based off of the scores of the personal learning preference survey, I have concluded that I am a hands-on, step by step learner. On the survey, I scored a 3 on active. That shows that I am a person that learns best by doing something active with it first. For sensing and intuitive, I scored a 3 on sensing, which means I like to learn through facts and is good with memorizing them through handson work. For the visual and verbal category, I scored a 5 on the visual side. That shows that I’m more of a person who learns best through an image or diagrams rather than written and spoken explanations. Lastly, on the sequential and global category, I scored a 5 on the sequential side. It means that I’m better off learning step by step to reach the solution rather than knowing the solution first and then trying to figure out how to solve it.
  • 4.  My thoughts on the general concept of learning preferences is that it is a good way for someone to figure out which ways help them learn best. But on the other hand, it can also be wrong. It may not be the best way to help someone learn. It may make it a lot harder than what it already is for that one person.
  • 5.  I chose the Learning Sage as my pathway in the beginning of the semester because I wanted to investigate in more newer technologies that can help one learn efficiently. I feel that learning in class only doesn’t help much as some students are better learning a different way. Learning about these technologies and how they can help one learn gives me a better sense of what I can do to help myself learn when I am not in class.
  • 6.  The activities from this course did contribute to how I ended up learning. It helped me make better informed decisions on whether or not information on the internet is true or false. It also helped me understand that there are apps for the mobile devices that can help teach a subject that I may not fully understand from class. Some of these activities are also help me change my physiological factors as it has an impact on the way I learn. In the end, these activities didn’t only change the way I learn, but it also help change me physically.
  • 7.    1) iPads & Tablets: This activity gave me insight on how there are educational applications that can be downloaded on to the mobile device. These educational applications can help me study or even teach me how to solve problems in certain subjects. You can even send instant messages to a friend, fellow classmate, or even professor to get help on some subjects. 2) iPods & iPhones: I feel that this activity is the same as the iPads & Tablets activity in a way. The only differences are the screen size and disk space that are on these devices as well as the ability to surf the web without having to connect to WiFi (smartphones). 3)Multimedia: For this activity, I feel like it best describe how people learn in general. The different types of media that are presented in this activity(text, video, audio, graphics, and animation) are the important features when it comes to learning. In my opinion, it’s always better to have different types of media when it comes to learning than just one type of media.
  • 8.  I feel that the use of different technologies is a great way to learn. This is something that should be taught in high school as nearly every student should have access to these technologies. These technologies help students learn more successfully and efficiently due to the fact that they have more sources to rely on than just a professor/teacher. After learning how to use these different technologies, I am applying them to my future studies. It is something that can be used daily that isn’t out of my way and it’s simple to navigate as well. The experience on these different technologies has improved the way I learn over this semester.
  • 9.  I have never thought that knowledge of physiological factors plays a role into my personal learning practices. After finding out how these factors affect my learning process, I have changed up some of these factors. One factor I have changed is my sleeping habit. Now I tend to sleep as early as possible so when I wake up, I have roughly around 8-9 hours of sleep. The amount of sleep should help me with retain information I learned over the day. Another factor that has been changed is my eating factor. Now I tend to eat a little more healthier as well as having snack in between big meals. That should help improve my cognitive abilities to help me focus better in my studies.
  • 10.  Everything that I have learned from this class will not only be applied to my other classes, but also to the rest of my life. Each of these strategies can be applied to different types of class subjects. It can also be applied to work. Using the note-taking strategy, it will help me navigate around a new job as well as helping me familiarize myself with the new surroundings. Using the technologies as a new learning tool for school will help me understand new topics a lot easier without having to constantly rely on one single source.
  • 11.  My experience as a learning sage have been overwhelming. I had no idea how much technologies can help with learning until after this class. Technology can be a powerful tool when used properly as it can contain vital information about subjects we don’t have a full grasp on. Every technology out there is different so you will always have a different type of answer. There is still a lot to learn about how these technologies can help us in our studies but for now, my experience as a learning sage have been nothing but fun.
