Metallic Thin Film Deposition for Sensing ApplicationsMinh Tran
This poster presented the deposition of metallic thin film by the wet-chemistry methods, i.e. the galvanic displacement and the electrodeposition. The methods offered not only the simplicity and low-cost of the experimental setup, but also certain levels of control over the morphology, density, and size of the deposited metallic nanostructures. Several characterization methods were applied to examine the thin films, including the SEM, AFM, XRD, and XPS. Furthermore, thin film deposition by physical and chemical vapor deposition will be outlined for future work. Finally, the samples were tested for their applicability for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) in which low concentrations of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye and paraoxon, a highly toxic organophosphate pesticide, were detected. They showed promising results.
Emeraldine-salt polyaniline form (ES-PANI) was chemically synthesized using hydrochloric acid at time
synthesis ranging from 0.5 to 48 h and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), LeBail fit, Small-angle
X-ray diffraction (SAXD), Small-angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) and Scanning Electron Microscopy
(SEM). Crystallinity and crystal data (a = 5.7122, b = 17.8393, c = 22.8027, a = 83.1575, b = 84.6971 and
c = 88.4419) were obtained by XRD and showed that the crystallinity did not vary with the time
synthesis. LeBail fit revealed that the crystallites were very small lamellae with global average size
around 39 Å. By SAXS it was obtained the particle Radius of Giration (Rg) of 320 Å. The maximum particle
size (Dmax) of 650 Å was obtained from the pair-distance distribution function (p(r)). SEM images showed
a fiber morphology formed by interconnected non homogeneous nanospheres. Electrical conductivity of
the samples was in 1.84 104 S/cm.

Cupric oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were prepared by the chemical route by calcinations at a higher temperature from 300oC to 400 oC. For the comparison transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were made through JCPDS. There is good agreement between data produced by spectroscopy and the microscopic measurements.

The combustion synthesis method was employed for the synthesis of red-emitting monoclinic SrAl2O4:Eu3+ phosphors. Structural characterization of annealed samples was carried out via X-ray Diffraction (XRD). XRD patterns reveal that strontium aluminate samples were cubic spinel nanoparticles and the grain size determined by the Debye-Scherrer formula is 35.34 nm. The vibrational stretching frequencies corresponding to the composites were confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The PL spectra show the strongest emission at 612 nm corresponds to the 5D0 → 7F2 transition of Eu3+, which results in bright red color emitting phosphor used for display devices and lamp industries.

Spectral studies of praseodymium doped heavy metal borate glass systemsinventy
Praseodymium doped HMO glasses are fabricated with the following compositions using conventional melt quenching technique. The compositions of the glass systems are 12 ZnO + 33 B2O3 + (50-x) PbO + (x+10) CaO + 4 Al2O3 + 1 Pr6O11 where (x = 0,10,20,30 and 40 mol %.). Certain physical properties of these systems have been evaluated and reported. Spectral data for all these systems were recorded for X-ray diffraction, Optical absorption and Fluorescence properties. The Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Ωλ ( λ = 2,4,6) were evaluated from the spectral data and in turn employed to evaluate the lasing parameters of Pr3+ HMO glass systems such as radiative transition probabilities (A), radiative life-times (τR), branching ratios (βR) absorption cross-sections (σa) and Stimulated emission cross-sections (σe). The experimental and calculated branching ratios (βR) for the lasing transitions 3P0 3H4, 3P0 3H6, and 3P0 3F2 are found to be in good agreement in the present work.

Bis(thiourea)cadmium chloride(BTCC) and bis(thiourea)cadmium iodide (BTCI) are metal complexes of thiourea having better nonlinear optical properties than KH2PO4. An attempt has been made in the present study to form mixed crystals based on BTCC and BTCI (even though their crystal lattices mismatch) from aqueous solutions, the precursors mixed in proper proportions. A total of seven (including the end members) crystals were formed by the free evaporation method and characterized chemically, structurally, thermally, optically and electrically. The X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that (BTCC)X(BTCI)1-X crystals with x=1.0,0.8 and 0.6 are orthorhombic in structure with space group Pmn21 and that with x=0.5, 0.4, 0.2 and 0.0 are monoclinic in structure with space group P21/c. All the grown crystals are found to be thermally stable up to 215 °C and possessing wide optical transmission window (300-900 nm) which is suitable for NLO applications. The electrical measurements indicate that the grown crystals exhibit a normal dielectric behavior. The results obtained in the present study indicate that mixed crystals can be formed from the isomorphous precursors directly even though the end member’s crystals have lattice mismatching.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.

Abstract
This work has as an aim the synthesis of new ceramic materials: Pb1-
0.04Sm0.02Nd0.02[(Zr0,55Ti0,45)1-2x,x(Y2/3 ,Mo1/3),x( Y2/3,Ni1/3)]O3 of structure perovskite ,
such that x = {0.01,0.03,0.05,0.07,0.1}. In order to study well this system and
delimiting the composition close to the morphotropic phase boundary (FMB) where
coexists the two ferroelectric phases ( tetragonal and rhombohedral) , we varied the
Zr/Ti ratio and the dopants ratio for that various compositions were prepared by the
method of synthesis with solid way . A thermal treatment was applied to these
compositions at different temperatures (1100, 1150, 1180°C), in order to optimize the
sintering temperature where the density of ceramics is maximum. We present the
preparation and the different stages of the formation reaction of the solid solution. Then
we will detail the different techniques of analysis applied to this compound, we begin
first by x-ray diffraction, in the following by Infrared spectroscopy, analysis by scanning
electron microscopy (SEM) analysis by spectrometric energy dispersive and finally the
study of physical properties (dielectric and electromechanical). These studies help us
to accumulate as much information on these materials.
