This document discusses potential synergies between monitoring progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Paris Agreement. While there are opportunities to connect monitoring systems and leverage common data sources, the goals and indicators of each framework differ. Global indicators alone do not provide sufficient information at the national level. Countries are seeking synergies where possible, like aligning SDG indicator data collection with national development plans. The key is balancing synergies with maintaining separate monitoring purposes and ensuring information needs are still met.

2018 SDG Index and Dashboards
The 2018 SDG Index and Dashboards report presents a revised and updated assessment of countries’ distance to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It includes detailed SDG Dashboards to help identify implementation priorities for the SDGs. The report also provides a ranking of countries by the aggregate SDG Index of overall performance.
This year’s report includes several improvements and additions in comparison to previous versions. It incorporates trend data for the first time. New indicators have been added to cover more accurately the SDGs and associated targets with a special focus on “leave no one behind” for OECD member states. We present data for all 193 UN member states and estimate absolute SDG achievement gaps to complement per capita estimates. Building on the 2017 report, we expand the analysis of international SDG spillovers and present an overall SDG spillover index.

Towards an integrated approach to NAPs, NDCs and SDGsUNDP Climate
Building resiliency to the effects of climate change and transforming economies toward low-carbon development requires integrated, cross-cutting solutions. In this way, a new paradigm is emerging toward addressing multiple risks and delivering co-benefits across climate and non-climate drivers. This will entail connecting climate action to long-term sustainable development planning, financing, and budgeting.
Effectively integrating sustainable development with climate change adaption and mitigation means evolving from working in silos to working in synergy. And current national efforts to align three key processes — the SDG Agenda, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and National Adaptation Plans (NAP) formulation and implementation—can be a key lynchpin to achieving that.
This was the main message emerging from a breakout discussion on 3 May in Berlin, Germany, at the Global NDC Forum. The event was organized by the Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag) and National Adaptation Plan Global Support (NAP-GSP) programmes. Co-organized by UNDP, the German Environment Ministry-hosted event brought together over 250 climate experts and policymakers from around the world to forge partnerships that can support scaling-up climate action and a prompt start to implementing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change as articulated in countries’ NDCs.
