14-15 March 2017
2. 2 Climate Change Expert Group
Information needs to identify
progress to global goal
1. The Global Goal on Adaptation still needs to be
operationalised/clarified
o Aggregation is a challenge
o Adaptation is a long-term and learning by doing process
2. Information will be needed at different levels (collective,
national, sectoral etc.)
o And of different types, e.g. institutional, financial aspects, poverty
levels
o … but some information difficult to collect and compare (e.g. gender,
level of mainstreaming)
3. Existing reporting vehicles (UNFCCC) are indispensable but
need to be enhanced (content, periodicity)
o Define minimum information that needs to be reported then build up
3. 3 Climate Change Expert Group
Role of adaptation-related reports in
assessing collective progress
1. Need to link with other multilateral reporting frameworks
(Sendai, SDGs…)
2. Make use of existing information from third parties
o E.g. from regional reports (transboundary effects), science (IPCC)
and ecosystem-specific (Arctic Council) or issue-specific (health,
private sector) organisations
3. Assessing effectiveness & adequacy is a challenge
