The Sycamore Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships to promising female high school seniors pursuing engineering degrees. In August, Sycamore will award one or more scholarships to cover tuition, fees, and textbooks. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA, acceptance to a U.S. college, and demonstrate commitment to an engineering career through an essay addressing the provided topic. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on their essay, intended field of study, and potential to contribute to their field.

1. Sycamore Scholarship
Program
Purpose:
The Sycamore Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships to
promising female high school seniors who are interested in pursuing their college degree
in engineering or a related field. Sycamore hopes that the scholarship will help female
students to realize engineering as a career path with unlimited potential, and to help those
students financially to achieve their academic goals.
Award:
In August, Sycamore will award its 2010 undergraduate scholarship to one or
more outstanding students for use toward eligible expenses including tuition, fees, and
textbooks. The scholarship will be presented in the form of a check made payable to the
student’s intended institution. In celebration of the award, a news release will be
distributed to local media in the winner’s hometown and to the winner’s
college/university.
Eligibility:
Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Scholarships are available to female high school seniors who have achieved
a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a standard 4.0 GPA
scale.
Candidates must be accepted as an incoming freshman at an accredited U.S.
college/university in the 2010 calendar year, with full-time (12 or more
credit hours) undergraduate student status.
The candidate shall demonstrate potential for, and commitment to, a career
in engineering or a related field, and exhibit their dedication to outstanding
academic performance.

2. Selection:
Each candidate is tasked with writing an essay focused on the topic described on
the application form. The Sycamore Scholarship Committee will judge the eligible essays
based on depth of knowledge and awareness of the issue and/or challenge addressed, as
well as creativity, composition, and originality.
The committee will also consider the candidate’s field of study and career
objectives, and will evaluate the candidate’s potential to make a significant contribution
to her field.

forms provided.

Candidate Essay
Two Professional References
Transcripts from current high school, and/or other early college advancement
institutions attended
Copy of acceptance letter from candidate’s accredited U.S. college/university
(this may be submitted post-application if acceptance is pending)
Submission Deadline:
Entries must be received by Sycamore no later than July 31, 2010.
