Housing costs are extremely variable
All-inclusive housing near campus will cost approximately $14,000 for

other amenities
Off-campus rent ranges from $500 to $1,200 per month depending on

Housing

in their SUpercard account, which works like a debit card at University
cafes
Students can take campus shuttles and buses serving University
neighborhoods free of charge

you’d like to be considered for a fellowship, scholarship, and/or
instructional associate position

a particular award
Merit-based aid process
16. Most awards are partial and extremely
competitive
We make our admissions decisions first,
then work on merit aid decisions
We notify award recipients from
early March through April 1
Awards
18. Newhouse aid is only awarded based on merit. Aid based on need is
administered through the University’s Financial Aid Office. They do not
have grants or scholarships to offer. They coordinate the federal loan
process.
To be considered for federal loans, applicants should file FAFSA forms as
soon as possible after January 1 to avoid delays. Both 2014-15 and
2015-16 FAFSAs are required due to our summer start.
Need-based aid process
19. The Financial Aid Office at SU will notify you regarding your loan eligibility as
soon as your information is received.
Typically, students are eligible for $10,250 in Stafford Loan funds for the
summer and up to $20,500 for the academic year.
There are also Graduate Plus loans for which there is no maximum loan limit
(annually or lifetime). Eligibility is calculated by the Cost of Attendance minus
other financial aid and a basic credit check must be passed.
