Abstract: Traffic control is an old and ever growing problem in cities throughout the world. Within many cities, intersections represent bottlenecks in the flow of traffic. Evaluating intersections control is complex and difficult. Given this, intersection management is both costly and time consuming. This paper considers the potential benefits of enhancing the traffic intersection with the use of intelligent objects in vehicles. We present, compare and demonstrate a novel Vehicle Back-Off Protocol against a classical Timed Traffic Control system. Our protocol uses ad-hoc messaging, collision avoidance and shared journey plans as a means by which to reduce delay, adapt a journey and maximize the efficient usage of a traffic intersection. We use simulation to model and evaluate intersection control.

Abstract:
Research indicates that transport services in cities in developing countries are mostly informal and include the use of rickety and low occupancy vehicles such as minibuses, taxis, motorcycles and vans, operated by private groups or individuals. Due to this classification, two schools of thought have emerged. The first suggests that these informal transport service sector operators in most cases operate outside the officially sanctioned public transport sector and as a result should be regarded as nuisance due to its disorganised nature, calling for public intervention and occasional eradication. Given its disorganised nature, informal transport service operators are identified with urban problems including low level of services, high rates of collision and accidents, increased congestion in cities, erratic scheduling and services, inadequate and lack of capacity and evasion of taxes and fees. In contrast, the other school of thought supports and emphasises the critical role these private operators play in meeting the mobility demand of the urban population, as in some jurisdictions (e.g., Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal) provide over 50% of transport services. Public transport service provision in Ghana has undergone several transformations since pre-colonial times, both structured and disorganised development. However, to avoid the gradual decay of public transport service provision in Ghana, the government of Ghana since 2005 has initiated plans to introduce Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services as a way of improving efficiency in public transport services. The Ghana UTP seeks to among other things to improve mobility within Ghana’s urban centres and to shift to more environmentally-sustainable transport modes and lower transport-related GHG emissions. Although the BRT project is yet to be fully roll out, its implementation is already facing some resistance from the informal public transport operators due to, a large extent, mistrust between the informal public transport operators and the government. The informal public transport operators consider this government intervention (BRT) as a strategy to make their operations inefficient and unpopular among Ghanaians. As a result, previous attempts to implement the project have failed, regardless of the potential benefits of the BRT. The purpose of my research is to explore ways of transition the uncoordinated informal public transport service operations in Ghana into a formal public transport service sector.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET's) are basically emanated from Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANET's) in which
vehicles act as the mobile nodes, the nodes are vehicles on the road and mobility of these vehicles are very high. The main objective of
VANET is to enhance the safety and amenity of road users. It provides intelligent transportation services in vehicles with the
automobile equipment to communicate and co-ordinates with other vehicles in the same network that informs the driver’s about the
road status, unseen obstacles, internet access and other necessary travel service information’s. The evaluation of vehicular ad hoc
networks applications in based on the simulations. A Realistic Mobility model is a basic component for VANET simulation that
ensures that conclusion drawn from simulation experiments will carry through to real deployments. This paper attempts to evaluate the
performance of a Bee swarm inspired Hybrid routing protocol for vehicular ad hoc network, that protocol should be tested under a
realistic condition including, representative data traffic models, and the realistic movement of the mobile nodes which are the vehicles.
In VANET the simulation of Realistic mobility model has been generated using SUMO and MOVE software and network simulation
has been performed using NS2 simulator, we conducted performance evaluation based on certain metric parameters such as packet
delivery ratio, end-to-end delay and normalized overhead ratio.
With the recent advancement of technology, a new technology named VANET (Vehicular Adhoc
Network) is emerging day by day. VANET is a wireless communication between vehicles to vehicles
and RSU (vehicles to road side units). It is different from MANET, so the challenges of VANET are also
different from MANET. It has many challenges like safety, traffic and user application based challenges
which require some particular design. The vehicular mobility model plays a vital role in examining
different challenges. There are different models for different purposes and for getting better results we
have to apply the correct model which is suitable for the particular situation. In this paper, a proper
classification is done between different vehicular mobility models with respect to their types, sub types,
usage (interaction level), evaluating purpose and example of each model is also provided

For creating a mobile network, the moving cars consider as nodes in the Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs). Each participating car is turned into a wireless router in the VANETs that allows the connecting and creating a network. To improve the comfort and safety of driving of automotive users, the vehicular environment system develops in the vehicular environment systems using the wireless access. The channel congestion causes the degradation of quality of service in such cases with higher vehicle density. The real-time and reliable communication is required for various safety applications of VANETs. The dense traffic network has included one of the major challenges as avoiding the communication channels’ degradation. To provide the network with efficient operation, most of the studies are recommended to use the appropriate congestion control methods. It’s important to note that many congestion control mechanisms are not implemented for event-driven real-time safety messages. Based on the congestion probability approach estimation, CFRS-CP-Congestion free route selection is introduced for minimizing the total number of data flow packets that passing through the congested nodes. At each node, the congestion probability is estimated using the proposed technique of CFRS-CP based on link quality, MAC overhead, neighbour density & vehicle velocity. Then, the estimated congestion probability is used for route assessment. The estimated probability value is appended to the control packets for comparison. All the available routes are assessed based on the estimated congestion probability which results in congestion free routing path for every round of data communication. The simulation results prove that the proposed method decreases end to end delay by 32% and improves PDR up to 30% and throughput up to 45% compared to the existing protocols.
