Narendra Nath Dutta was born between 1863-1902 in India. He received education at Metropolitan School and Presidency College in Calcutta. He encountered a spiritual crisis in his youth but found guidance under Sri Ramakrishna. After his father's death in 1884, he took on responsibility for his family. In 1886, Sri Ramakrishna passed away and in 1887 Narendra formally became a monk, renaming himself Swami Vivekananda. He meditated at Kanyakumari before traveling to the US in 1893 to represent Hinduism at the World's Parliament of Religions, where he received appreciation. In 1897 he founded the Ramakrishna Mission. Before his death in 1902

in Dakshineshwar.

6.  Sudden death of his father in
1884
 Narendra had to bear the burden
of supporting his mother,
brothers and sisters.
 16 August 1886 Sri Ramakrishna
gave up his mortal body.

7.  1887 he took the formal vows of sannyasa

Everything is gone. Now it's only
Mother, Mother!
•The national ideals of India are
Renunciation and Service.
Intensity her in those channels,
and the rest will take care of
itself.

10.  God is present in every jiva; there is no other
God besides that. 'Who serves jiva, serves
God indeed.’
 One may gain political and social
independence, but if one is a slave to his
passions and desires, one cannot feel
the pure joy of real freedom.
 Religion is the idea which is raising the
brute unto man, and man unto God.

14.  Soon after his return to Kolkata, Swami
Vivekananda founded on 1 May 1897

17.  “ It may be that I shall find it good to get
outside my body, to cast it off like a worn out
garment. But I shall not cease to work. I shall
inspire men everywhere until the whole world
shall know that it is one with God .”

18.  His health deteriorated and the end came
quietly on the night of 4 July 1902
