Narendra Nath Dutta was born between 1863-1902 in India. He received education at Metropolitan School and Presidency College in Calcutta. He encountered a spiritual crisis in his youth but found guidance under Sri Ramakrishna. After his father's death in 1884, he took on responsibility for his family. In 1886, Sri Ramakrishna passed away and in 1887 Narendra formally became a monk, renaming himself Swami Vivekananda. He meditated at Kanyakumari before traveling to the US in 1893 to represent Hinduism at the World's Parliament of Religions, where he received appreciation.
