Narendranath Datta was born in 1863 in Calcutta, India. As a young man, he had doubts about God's existence until meeting the spiritual leader Sri Ramakrishna, who became his guru. He changed his name to Swami Vivekananda and went to Chicago in 1893 to represent Hinduism at the World's Parliament of Religions, where his speech was very well received. After gaining fame in the West, Vivekananda returned to India in 1897 and passed away in 1902 at the age of 39 in Belur Math, India.
