This presentation took place at the 8th Atlanta Studies Symposium on April 9, 2019, where I discussed the concept of displacement, e.g. "homelessness," from the climate change perspective.

2. THE ISSUE WORTH EXAMINING
• Anthropomorphic climate change has been determined to be a predictor for disrupting
communities and ecosystems, resulting in people being displaced or gentrification
• Mental Health Effects Summary: exacerbation of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress
disorder, suicidal thoughts, and community instability due to short- or long-term weather-
derived trauma; hot days correlate with more heat-related illnesses; increased alcohol use
(Dogden et al. 2016, Friel et al. 2014)
• Geography and Ecology Effects Summary: climate change influences spread of vector-borne
diseases; increases in flooding, saltwater contamination, and decreases water availability;
pathogens compromising water supply
• Economy Effects Summary: lost productivity, degradation of property and infrastructure; lost
crops and agriculture; exorbitant energy costs

• Retrofitted green and solar roofs on both houses and apartment complexes
• Rethinking how neighborhoods are fundamentally built
• Let communities determine what “climate change” means to them
• Collaboration with the Dignity Museum and the Center for Civic Innovation
• HUD and national Trust Fund Annual Allocations (ensure more money)
