Milena Glimbovski, Original Unverpackt: "Unpackaged Shopping." Milena Glimbovski is managing director of Original Unverpackt. She and her business partner Sara Wolf have been working on the realisation of Original Unverpackt since 2012 – the first one-way packaging free supermarkt chain. 2013 she has been awarded as Kreativpilotin by the Federal Ministry of Economy and since 2013 Original Unverpackt is part of the Social Impact Lab Berlin. You can find more information about Original Unverpackt at www.original-unverpackt.de Her presentation will be about Unpackaged Shopping. In the past years everything has been rethought, except one thing - grocery shopping. It's time for a change. Apart from Original Unverpackt, the first supermarket chain without one-way packaging in Germany, there are many other new sustainable concepts. Most of them still small, but they are becoming more and more mainstream. These concepts promise an environmental friendly and pleasant shopping experience. This talk will provide you with an overview of these different concepts. Original Unverpackt will be a supermarkt who renounces annoying and unnecessary one-way packaging. No packaging waste after your shopping, means no trash to carry outside. No more wasting of groceries, because you bought too much again.

An interest in climate issues from the vantage of communication has led him to engage in the promotion of urban cycling, also for the Volksentscheid Fahrrad (Berlin’s Bicycle Referendum initiative). Aside from that, he enjoys cycling in all its forms, which leads to his another favorite pastime of his: eating.

Dörte Kasüske, Consultant at mascontour GmbH: "Sustainability in German Tourism Destinations" Dörte Kasüske is a consultant at mascontour GmbH, a Berlin-based consultancy that aims linking tourism and sustainability management innovatively and consistently. mascontour was founded in 2005. Since then the company has successfully implemented over 100 tourism projects in more than 30 countries. mascontour works at local, regional, national and international levels. Clients include destination management organisations, tourism businesses, development organisations and tourism policy makers. Being part of mascontour's interdisciplinary team Dörte was involved in tourism projects in Germany, India and Myanmar. Besides working as a consultant, Dörte is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Geography/University of Cologne. Her research focuses on value chains in tourism. Sustainability in German tourism destinations A nationwide, exclusive online survey conducted by mascontour GmbH in cooperation with ITB Berlin in 2014/2015 analysed sustainable tourism in German holiday destinations for the first time. The study took a look at understanding the importance of sustainability, responsibilities and commitment, implementation and need for action from the perspective of destinations. The result: sustainability can no longer be ignored in German tourism.

Arianna Nicoletti, fashion designer and activist on "Upcycling Fashion" Arianna Nicoletti is a fashion designer and activist working with the concept of "Upcycling" since 2009. Fascinated by the aspect of textile waste reduction, in the last years together with her team she initiated many projects in Berlin: in 2010 they founded their own upcycling label aluc, which was followed by the first German blog about upcycling fashion and the first concept store dedicated to the topic, The Upcycling Fashion Store. With the institution of their monthly networking event Strich&Faden, they created a proper hub for sustainable fashion in Berlin. In 2012 she started up the project Water to Wine – Material Pool in collaboration with the Berliner Stadtmission creating a source of second-hand textiles for international designers. She is the co-founder of the project The Green Fashion Tours Berlin and a founding member of the association Future Fashion Forward e.V.

Ester Fröhler and Sonja Lotz, Möon Sustainable Clothing on "Sustainable Fashion in Berlin" Sonja Lotz, Co-founder and formerly co-owner of the Konk Store in Berlin Mitte, is trained as a fashion designer. Ester Fröhler has a university degree in sociology and is a trained TCM-therapist. Möon Sustainable Clothing is a concept store (in situ as well as online) for sustainable fashion in Berlin Kreuzberg. Since 2014 Möon sells fashion accessories and bags for men and women. The selection of brands and product ranges from all over the world is well curated. Möon succeeds in reconciling the pursuit of fashionable design with the theme of sustainability. The labels we sell certify fair production, the use of eco-friendly materials and in some cases even cooperatives with artisans in Less Developed Countries. The plain yet delicate design of the store rounds of the aesthetics of the Möon as a brand. Favoring a sustainable approach, the founders of Möon, Sonja Lotz und Ester Fröhler, have positioned themselves against ephemeral trends in fashion: "We believe that fashion can be fair, and produced in ways ethically and ecologically justifiable. We have founded Möon Sustainable Clothing to demonstrated, by our selection of labels and designers from all over the world, that fair sustainable fashion can well stand for aesthetics and style. Sophia Opperskalski has been working for textile companies, research projects and NGOs in Asia and Europe. She supports textile companies in sourcing sustainable materials and is the founder of interloom. Interloom is the first open B2B online platform that makes (co-)sourcing and selling sustainable fabrics easy. We help designers and fashion brands to discover the most sustainable, cutting-edge materials. By helping to form buying groups we facilitate to collectively order ecologically and fairly produced fabrics to reach minimum order quantities and to source at lower quantities and for better value. Maxie Matthiessen is co-founder of the award winning social business Makit ApS (registered in Denmark and Kenya) that provides a long-term menstrual hygiene solution to girls and women worldwide. Prior to becoming a social entrepreneur, she has acted as researcher, drafting studies for the UN General Assembly, consulted on micro-finance topics, and organized high-level roundtable discussions at the EU Parliament. Maxie sat on the board of Young Women Social Entrepreneurs in Nairobi (YWSE), was selected Attaché at COP15 in Copenhagen, and guest speaker on minority issues in the Danish Parliament. She is part of Sandbox, a global community for the world’s most accomplished young leaders and decision-makers under the age of 30. Ruby Cup is an award winning social business that is based in Berlin and Nairobi. Ruby Cup provides a healthy and long-lasting female hygiene solutions to girls and women world-wide. For every Ruby Cup sold in high-end markets, one product is donated to an underprivileged girl in Kenya. Girls in developing countries cannot afford sanitary products and because they are ashamed of leaking, they stay home from school. Through its "buy one give one" business model, Ruby Cup helps girls to stay in school.

Paola Bagna, spamroom.net "Thoughts about Sustainability in Architecture and Design" Paola Bagna was born in Figueres (Catalunya, Spain), with Catalan, Argentinian and Italian background. Trying to decide between physics and graphic design, she finally chose to study architecture in Barcelona. After graduating in 2007, Paola worked in award winning offices in Barcelona, London and Berlin. Berlin has for the last five years been her base city, where two years ago her professional project “spamroom” started, focussing on the use of recycled materials in the design, collaborations with like-minded designers and the close work with craftsmen. A year ago, she started a degree in Multimedia in an internationally recognized online catalan university, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. spamroom was born from the strong belief that architecture and design, no matter the scale of the project, has to seek and achieve certain sustainability principles such as minimizing the waste and energy during construction. I decided that if architecture is the field of work I will be involved in (my personal conflict in architecture: new building in free spaces vs. transforming the existing built space), then it would have to comply with some sustainability-ethics. This is related/associated with the Cradle to Cradle Design principles started by William McDonough. The first spamroom built project was Plus One Berlin (http://www.spamroom.net/plus-one-berlin/). This one room hotel was partially built (40%) with salvaged materials (wood panels, tiles, lighting,...) sourced from demolition works from construction sites, the street or second hand shops from Berlin and surrounding areas. From the experience I gained with the design and construction of Plus One Berlin, I became aware that in order to design and build spaces with salvaged materials without delays on the site (with the right products that a client can see and choose), it is important to source them beforehand and store them until they are needed at a later date. The concept of the space first, and the construction following afterwards, can be done knowing which materials are available to re-use. Parallel project born after Plus One building experience: The “spam-map” web application aims to make it easier for architects to integrate re-used materials in their projects and to connect the architecture professionals looking to re-use building materials, and the building companies providing the materials through their demolition works. This is a project under development which connects my Multimedia studies and my company spamroom.

Uwe Lübbermann is founder and main moderator of premium-cola, advisor to several other companies. pursuing a more sustainable, public-welfare-focused- and post-growth-economy since 2001. Premium-Cola is an internet-based softdrink brand which is ruled by a consensus-oriented collective of potentially all its stakeholders, including the consumers. This idealistic approach has not only proven to sustain the company itself, it also helped to develop a unique set of management tools which address and design ecological, social and economic issues more consistently than any other company in the industry. For instance, Premium-Cola offers anti-volume-discounts, publishes mistakes actively and has no written contracts in order to stabilize the value creation chain. Furthermore, these and other tools have established a special USP which is offered for free (e. g. in an open franchise style) in order to spread the ideas, support companies in other industries to work in a similar way, and also to help forcing conventional companies. Long story short: Premium-Cola is hacking business.
