Market Research Survey Results
I have recently taken out a questionnaire to collect quantitative data to help create my music
magazine. I have asked a series of questions as research to help me build my magazine around the
preferred opinions of the participants.

The first question I asked was for the age of the people who
have taken part. This pie chart shows that the majority of
people who have taken part in my survey are between 16 and
18 years old, therefore the target audience that my magazine
will be aimed at this
age group.

I then went on to ask how much people are willing to
spend on a magazine in a shop. This helped give me a
price for my magazine. I am going to price my magazine
somewhere between £3 and £5 as this is what most
people would prefer, therefore more people are likely to
purchase my magazine.

My magazine will be based mostly around the indie
pop/rock genre. This is because this was the most popular
music genre chosen in my magazine. Although the most
popular genre was indie pop, other music genres may
feature in my magazine such as hip-hop/rap as this was
the second most popular.

How do you listen to music?
The majority of my participants use YouTube to
listen to their music; I asked this question to find
out how people listen to music. Knowing
YouTube is most popular, I could then go on to
use advertisements for YouTube in my
magazine.

Do you read music
magazines?

This pie chart shows how many people read music magazines, only
half of the participants asked read them. This means to get people
to read my magazine I will have to create my magazine tailored to
my overall results.

Music is listened to regularly by the people who
took part in my survey. As most people listen to
music more than five hours of music a week I will
have to choose artists to feature in my magazine
that my audience will enjoy listening to. This will
attract more reader.

more

When asked, more people said that they prefer
magazines with more images rather than text. This
will help when making my magazine as I will try to
use more images or larger images rather than text.
However I personally think it is important to have a
balanced mixture of both text and images, so I will
use a mixture of both rather than one and not the
other.

By asking how people purchase music I was able to find
out which way of buying music is popular. By finding
this out I will be able to put in my magazine adverts on
where to purchase the artist featured in my magazine’s
music. One person chose other and commented saying
they use spotify to purchase or download their music.
This was helpful as I left it out of my survey and now
will be able to consider this way of downloading music
when using artist advertisements in my magazine.

Over half of my audience read magazines

have to make my magazine based around my
survey results to keep the audience interested.

The final question I asked was for the audience to choose
their preferred colour scheme. The majority chose the
combination of red, white and black; these colours are often
associated with music magazines. The reason I asked this
question because I was still unsure on a set colour scheme,
due to my results I am now going to use the red, black and
white scheme.

Overall I think my survey was successful. They will help when creating my final magazine as I can
keep referring back to the survey results. I now know what colour scheme to use, which music
genres to feature in my magazine and roughly how much the price for my magazine will be.
