- 2. Surah Overview: Like manySuwar in the 30th Juzu, Surah Al-Tariq starts an oath. Oaths are when Allah (S) swears by His creations and makes them witnesses. This will come in Ayah #4.
- 3. #1 I swear bythe sky and the Tariq. ِ قِ ار َّ ٱلطَ و ِ ءٓاَ مَّ ٱلسَ و Tariq are the large brilliant night stars. Stars were the GPS of the Arabs at the time of the Prophet. Without the stars, travelers would get lost in the deserts of Arabia.
- 4. #2 And will youevery know what Al-Tariq is? ُ قِ ار َّ ٱلط اَ م َ ك َ ر َأ ٓاَ مَ و ٰٮ ۡد Think of the night sky like a dark blanket and the stars are like bright holes of light poking through. Imagine how far and how long that light travelled before it reached you! We may see a small glimpse of the stars but will never truly understand their reality. Allah is asking us to look at think about things we look at ُ ِب قاَّ ٱلث ُ م َّ ٱلن ۡج #3 The bright piercing star This question is meant to show us that we will not know the answer until Allah informs us. - 6. #4 There isn’t asingle person without a guardian ِ فاَ ح ا َلَ ع اَّ مَّل َ ن ُّ لُ ك نِإ ۬ ٌظ َہۡي ٍ۬ س ۡف Allah and His Angels are guardians over us. This connects back to the stars. They are so far away, but they’re like
- 7. #5 So let thehuman reflect on what he was created from. َ ِقلُ خ َّ ِم م ُ ن َ نسِ إٱ ِ ر ُ نظَ ي َ ف ٰـ ۡ ل ۡ ل This Ayah is meant to humble us. We came from something so simple and seemingly insignificant. So small in relation to the creation of the sky and stars mentioned previously. We have no right to be arrogant.
- 8. #6 (Man was)created from a gushed fluid. ِ فاَ د ٓاَّ م ِن م َ ِقلُ خ ۬ ٍق ۬ ٍء ِ ب ُّ ٱلص ِ ن َ ب ِ م ُ جُ ر َ ي ۡ ل ۡي ۢ ن ۡخ ِ ب ٓاَ رَّ ٱلتَ و ِٕٮ #7 It existed from between the back of the spine and the ribs. This also connects back to the stars. The light of the stars went through a journey to come through the sky and be seen by us. Similarly, the human went through a journey to come into this life and through this life and then eventually exit this
- 9. Allah will bringus back to life after we die. This connects to our birth. Just as we exited from our mothers in the World, we will exit it into the Earth, then exit again and find ourselves in a standing before our Creator. #8 ِ داَ قَل ِ هِ ع َ ر َلَ ع ُ هَّ نِإ ۬ ٌر ۦ ۡ ج ٰى ۥ He (Allah) is able to return it (human)

On the daysecrets will be exposed ُ ر ٓاَ رَّ ٱلس ىَل ُ ت َ م َ ي ِٕٮوب ۡب ۡو #9 ِ اصَ ن اَلَ و َّ وُ ق ِن م ُ هَل اَ مَ ف ۬ ٍر ۬ ٍة ۥ And they (humans) will not have any power or helpers On the Day of Judgement, we will not be able to hide anything or help anyone escape their fate. No amount of money or fame can help us if we had not earned our place in front of Allah. #10
- 11. ِ ع َّ ٱلر ِ اتَ ذِ ءٓاَ مَّ ٱلسَ و ۡ ج I swear by the sky that returns… #11 Think of the water cycle. Water comes down as rain, then goes back up and keeps recycling the same water over and over again.
- 12. ِ ع َّ ٱلص ِ اتَ ذِ ض َأ ٱَ و ۡ د ۡ ر ۡ ل #12 I swear by the Earth that rips open… CONNECTS to our DEATH. The Earth will open for us so we can enter it when we die, then emerge from it on the Day of Judgment. When the rain comes down the Earth has to open to absorb it so that the seeds can grow. Seeds also have to rip open to produce fruits. CONNECTS to our CREATION. Fluid enters the womb then a human develops then emerges.
- 13. ِل َه ِبَوُه اَمَو ۡ ز ۡ لٱ And it is not useless speech The Quran is the word that clarified the truth from the lies. It wasn’t sent down for entertainment purposes. Allah didn’t send His speech to us just so we would recite it at competitions, funerals and weddings. َ ف َ قَل ُ هَّ نِإ ۬ ٌلۡ ص ۬ ٌلۡ و ۥ #13 Truly it (the Quran) is a decisive word. #14
- 14. They’re plotting theirplots ا َ ك َ ُون دِي كَ ي َّ نِإ ۬ ًدۡ ي ۡ مُہ ا َ ك ُ دِي كَأَ و ۬ ًدۡ ي #15 #16 And I (Allah) am plotting my plots Quraysh was plotting to destroy the Muslims, but Allah responded by assuring them that His revenge would come to their aid.
- 15. So go easyon the kuffar (Oh Muhammad) Give them an extension in their deadline. Here Allah (S) is asking the Prophet (S) to not plot against the kuffar, nor to make duaa against them. ا َ وُ ر ُ ه ِ ه َأ َ ينِ ِر ف َ ك ٱ ِ لِّ هَ مَ ف ۢ َدۡ ي ۡ م ۡ ل ۡ م ٰـ ۡ ل #17 Allah is assuring the Muslims that if they are patient, He will undo all the plots of the Kuffar..
