SUN TRACKING SOLAR
PANEL
UNDERSTANDING THE
PROBLEM
• Efficiency of
our current solar
cell is 18-20%.
• Better than 3-6%
efficiency that
most green plants
end up with.
SOLUTION
1.Improve the
efficiency of
solar panels.
2.Find ways of
getting more
from our
current solar
WHY TRACK SUN ?
• The solar panel that tracks sun create 30%
more energy per day than a fixed panel.
• The most energy is absorbed when a surface’s
face is perpendicular to the sun.
• Stationary mounted PV panels are only
perpendicular to the sun once a day.
With that kind of
power increase
you would think
everyone would
be doing it, but
it is not the
case....
WHY IT IS NOT
OVERLY COMMON?
• Initial cost of setup
is higher since it
requires moving
parts.
• It also requires
maintenance.
• You would need to
power this equipment
in order to keep it
ACTIVE TRACKING
• Our tracker is an
active tracker which
is controlled by a
computer
program(via an
ardunio).
• This means that we
use sensors to find
LIGHT DETECTING
RESISTOR
• For sensors, we are
using four light
sensitive (detecting)
resistors, also known
as LDRs.
• They work by
changing their
resistance level on
DUAL AXIS
• It tracks in both X
and Y i.e. it goes
left, right, up and
down.
• Once you have your
tracker set up you
will never need to
change or adjust
anything.
SERVOS MOTOR
• We are using two “micro” servos in the 9g
size.
