The New Romantic Era in Business and TechTim Leberecht
How can we make work and life more magical? Tim Leberecht, author of the book THE BUSINESS ROMANTIC, believes that a century after the industrial age we are facing another great disenchantment, this time propelled by the connected age with its growing datafication, constant digital overwhelm, and radical transparency. Business is divorced from the full expression of our humanity, he argues, and for many of us something is missing, something both essential and immeasurable that lets us see the world with fresh eyes every day: romance. In response to the “quantification of everything,” Leberecht suggests a new romantic movement in business and tech. Through select workplace and customer experiences, he illustrates the value of choosing intimacy over transparency, mystery over clarity, devotion over data, desire over satisfaction, and vulnerability over consistency. “The moments we lose control are the moments we fall in love,” he says, stressing that romance might be the only remaining differential in a world of maximizers and optimizers.
The Business Romantic: Give Everything, Quantify Nothing, and Create Somethin...Tim Leberecht
The document discusses the role of a "Business Romantic" who would help companies embrace less quantifiable aspects of business like meaning, community, and human experiences. Specific responsibilities would include finding meaning in everyday interactions, cultivating deep connections, and implementing passion projects. The ideal candidate would have experience romanticizing business through empathy and generosity, an active imagination, and an appreciation for ambiguity. They would help shift organizational cultures from purely transactional to more generous and aim to restore trust in business.
The document discusses how creating divisions between "us vs. them" often does more harm than good. It is better to stand in one's truth and let one's light shine through as an influence, rather than directly challenging or fighting others, as some of the greatest teachers like Mandela, Gandhi, and MLK demonstrated. Their example of leading through love and oneness helped advance ideas of unity and equality peacefully when the time was right.
Mark Twain said that a lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on. This quotation means that lies can spread very quickly, while the truth takes more time to be widely known. The document discusses how Mark Twain, whose real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was an American author and humorist in the 19th century who wrote many famous works. It also provides context for the quotation by explaining that lying is easy because it is difficult to verify the truth, so lies can spread more readily than the truth.
This poem explores various themes of human existence through abstract and metaphorical language. It references topics like the economy, evolution, pollution, war, leadership, social change and human relationships. The speaker expresses feelings of depression, anxiety, creativity and connection to nature. Overall, the poem uses vivid yet ambiguous imagery to reflect on the human condition and our impact on the world.

What Makes Millennial Entrepreneurs Unique Scott Sadler
Millennial entrepreneurs are unique in several ways. They grew up witnessing the success of startups and unicorn companies, making them admire entrepreneurs rather than seeking corporate careers. As digital natives, they are experienced with technology and collaboration, often working in groups to get feedback on ideas. Motivated by passion and purpose, millennial entrepreneurs want to make a positive impact and constantly learn through creative problem solving as they strive to build their own companies.

Getting a tail on a coin toss or getting a number less than 5 on a standard 6-sided die. Both events are equally likely. Getting a number less than 5 on a die has a higher probability, as 5 out of the 6 possible outcomes on a die roll are less than 5, giving it a good chance. A coin toss has only a 2 in 2 chance (even chance) of landing on tails. Mathematics can oversimplify problems at times by reducing real-world uncertainty to theoretical probabilities. The application of probability is not limited to games of chance, as patterns in relationships can help predict outcomes.
This document discusses the importance of truthfulness. It covers several topics related to truth, including:
- Lying, which directly opposes truth and can harm integrity, reputation, peace, and individuals. Different types of lies are outlined.

- When it is appropriate to reveal truths to others based on their right to know and considerations of the common good.
- Secrets, which are privately held information, and limited circumstances where secrets may be revealed to prevent harm.
- The value of consistently making words, deeds, and thoughts harmonize with one another in truth.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb's book The Black Swan discusses rare and unpredictable events, known as "black swan events", that have major consequences. Black swan events are outliers that are impossible to predict and carry an extreme impact. Taleb argues that human nature leads us to concoct explanations for outliers after the fact, making them seem predictable. He advocates preparing for unpredictable events rather than believing the world operates based on what is known. The book uses the stock market crash of 1987 as an example of an unforeseen black swan event. Taleb also classifies realities as either "Mediocristan", where outcomes are predictable, or "Extremistan", where a few major outcomes determine the

Zemblanity and Serendipity in Guardian and Trader NarrativesVenkatesh Rao
This document discusses different types of narrative structures and how they relate to concepts like serendipity, zemblanity, and rationality. It proposes that classical narratives tend to follow a structure of increasing and decreasing tension that resolves in the restoration of a sacred order, exhibiting a feeling of zemblanity. In contrast, non-classical narratives allow for continuously expanding possibilities and feelings of serendipity by not requiring a return to a fixed sacred order. The document encourages participants to work in pairs to create comic book stories that explore these concepts through examples of characters experiencing serendipitous or zemblanitous events.
This document is an introduction to the book "Behold a Pale Horse" by Milton William Cooper. It summarizes the contents of the book in 3 sentences:

Cooper believes he was put in positions throughout his life to deliver this warning and hopes the information will inspire readers to seek truth.
